The Tale of the Sun and the Moon

This story begins
with the creation of two.
An alicorn of white,
and an alicorn of blue.

The white one was more aged,
the blue one the younger,
but as all siblings are,
she was filled with a hunger.

She had to be better.
Come rain or come shine.
Such her nature,
driven by forces divine.

Her sister controlled the sun,
and the ponies enjoyed her days.
And as a being of great power,
she could sculpt it's rays.

The younger was an artist,
not merely a force.
The sky was her canvas,
and her power it's source.

She'd draw every night,
with the stars above.
Creating her paintings
that only she could love.

For every night when,
the sun fell from the sky,
The ponies were asleep,
and every night she'd cry.

There would be not a pony
who'd enjoy her beautiful night.
They'd all gone to bed,
filled with fear and fright.

The night was not the time
for work or for play.
The monsters came out then,
hunting their prey.

Shunned was her night,
t'was vile and abhorred.
But loved was the day
her sister, they adored.

In the beginning,
faze her, this did not.
And every night, at sunset,
her beautiful sky, she wrought.

She shut herself in
making even more art,
and every single one of them
came straight from her heart.

She made a years' worth,
and then even more.
Thousands upon thousands
of paintings held in store.

During the day,
she began to write
her planned set of skies;
the designs of her night.

And so she created
a thousand years' worth.
Her days were then filled
with joy and mirth.

She grew more recluse.
She fell in love with her art.
She ventured not outside,
She and the ponies grew apart.

Then finally one day,
she chose to appear
but the ponies knew her not,
and they were filled with fear.

They grew ever more confused
and then finally scared
for at their blue princess
every single one stared

Not a single pony
had seen her before,
as she never appeared
outside of her door.

Then a single pony,
in fear and in fright,
our princess he called,
"A monster of the night".

The chaos that came after
was easily quelled,
but from our princess
the hate was never expelled.

The Princess of the night,
had never been so enraged.
Her voice so loud,
she shook mountains aged.

She grew angry and jealous
for all loved her sister
but she held it within,
and her hate did blister.

Such was this envy
that a millennium became past,
she still felt rejected,
and the darkness within her held fast.

Then finally on one day,
she was overtaken by hate.
Her night would be shunned no more,
a new world she'd create.

She designed a new world
with a sky to go along.
Her form began to change,
As the evil within grew strong.

She intended to rid
the entire world of light.
Nothing but her moon above;
the world in eternal night.

Her power grew strong,
as her hate festered within,
still hidden from all,
She was Nightmare, dream's twin.

Her wait came to fruition,
and she put her plans to bear
the moon she refused to lower,
the sun caught in her snare.

The world she had altered,
to survive in her night
But the ponies hated her still
scared without the sun's light.

Her sister the white,
the regent of the sun,
tried all she could,
but the damage had been done.

So corrupted was our princess,
she turned into Nightmare
It twisted her mind
and her soul would it tear.

The sun's child tried
as much as she could
to reason with her turned sister,
to bring her back to good.

Thus the Nightmare was
to conquer the land.
She brought forth dark armies,
under her command.

As she did so,
the elder wept,
her heart rent in two,
this betrayal, she could not accept.

She turned to the younger
her face in tears.
And asked her one thing
to allay her fears.

"Why do you do this?"
Had she so cried,
and her heart tore apart,
as she was told why.

"For so long,
I have been hated.
Thy ponies accept me not,
And they never abated.

They see me as evil
for I control the night.
They call me a 'monster',
since the moon I light.

They see not who I am,
but what I represent.
They care not of my art,
and thus do I lament.

But for no longer
will I be undeserving of hate.
I will give them a reason,
and I have of late.

I will show them the beauty
of my moon and it's sky
and they forever will see
the moon up high.

So, sister, I'm sorry,
but not really so.
I have done what I will,
though the hate may not go.

Thou can try to stop me
but I'll ne'er drop the moon.
Not 'til the ponies understand
How we are their boon.

They take thee for granted,
and take me as fell
I will change that,
the ignorance I shall quell."

And with those words,
the elder was hurt,
her sister's words cut her,
her mind did they pervert.

She turned away,
she spoke to her kin.
Her words full of feeling,
her love lay within.

"Sister, love thee I do,
but thy moon, thou must lower.
The ponies can learn,
but it must be slower.

They fare not well
when faced with change.
For they fear it greatly,
take it evil and strange.

They like it not,
for they love their peace.
They must have their light,
else their innocence would cease.

They know not of war,
of conflict or great hate.
And as thee has spoke,
they are ignorant of late.

And thus I implore thee
end thy precious night.
For the ponies will die out
without their sacred light."

And thus did the elder speak,
her compassion leaking out.
But the younger listened not,
her heart reason, without.

The elder knew now,
there was nothing she could do.
Her sister had fallen,
darkness filled her through.

She turned back to the being
that had twisted the younger.
And she spoke once more,
her voice like thunder.

"Then you fiend,
you thief of mine heart.
I bid you farewell,
From this world, you'll depart.

But you are my sister,
and kin doesn't slay kin.
I sentence you to banishment,
enjoy your moon, shade of sin."

And with those words,
she turned upon the fiend.
She unleashed her power,
Her sister to be cleaned.

With the powers of Harmony,
and the six stones of old,
she overpowered her sister,
who had become so bold.

With tears in her eyes,
and guilt in her face,
she banished her sister,
and removed her last trace.

The Elements were unstoppable,
their powers ignited,
and into the moon
they sent the sister blighted.

The moon fell back to earth,
and the sun raised once more,
but the elder never forgot,
and to help her sister, she swore.

After every day,
as the sun set,
she gazed upon the moon,
and her sister's face she met.

For the tainted sister,
whose soul had been hurt,
had her face imprinted on her charge,
Her visage carved into the dirt.

The elder never forgot,
nor did she ever forgive.
The evil spirit's name she'd curse,
as long as she'd live.

Our Princess of the day,
took on the younger's duty,
and with her power,
forged new skies of beauty.

But never could she hope
to match the younger's skill.
Her heart into the sky,
she could never instill.

She wept every night,
at her sister's fall,
and vowed to herself,
to fix it all.

A thousand years passed, and
she took on a student,
a purple unicorn mare,
wise and prudent.

The mare grew powerful,
skilled to no end
but she was secluded,
with only her brother as her friend.

So on the thousandth year,
the day of her sister's fate,
she sent the mare to make friends,
and hoped for fortune great.

Her hopes were not in vain,
as she found out first-hand
Her student knew of the Nightmare,
and of the powers of the land.

Her student found the Elements,
and with her new five friends,
She ignited the spark,
acquiring power to no ends.

The student was ignorant,
but her faith remained,
The student used the Elements
and thus the evil was drained.

The Nightmare was destroyed,
and the second Princess unveiled,
her dark guise shed away,
The fell powers had failed.

And so the elder,
with much joy in her heart,
would thus greet the younger
and anew, they would start.

Thus marks the end of the sun and the moon
and the sisters of old were united once again.
Such that no evil could defeat them, they protected the land.
Not a foe could defeat them, such did they reign.

They stood fast together against all darkness,
and recreated the peace and harmony of old.
They quelled all hatred and banished all evil,
and thus their story has been told.

Remember such that
when with your fate, you collide
The sun and the moon
will be there by your side.

Author's Note

Hey guys, if this gets good feed-back, I'd like to become one of, if not the only, author who writes entirely in rhyme.
I will need more ideas though, post em on my page, if they're GOOD and I can actually write in rhyme about them...
And furthermore, I may end up renaming this something like "Epics of Equestria" and write a prologue with Zecora speaking...
