Growing together
The start of a beautiful friendship
Load Full StoryCloudsdale, the gem of the skies as some call it. The city of clouds is home to many pegasi, each different from the other. Our story is about two such Pegasi.
A small black pegasus colt with a short bright blue-white mohawk walked down the streets of cloudsdale, he was a young pegasus about six years old. An older pegasus mare walked next to him. She had a light grey coat with a light blue mane and three clouds for a cutie mark, her name was Cloudstreaker.. The colt was named Thunderlane, and it was his first day of school.
"Do I have to go mom..." Groaned Thunderlane.
"Flight school is important." Replied Cloudstreaker. "All pegasi need to go there.
Thunderlane groaned as they approached a large cloud gate with a sign above it.
CLOUDSDALE FLIGHT SCHOOL.
The gates opened.
"Now have a good day, and don't get into trouble." Said Cloudstreaker.
Cloudstreaker spread her wings and flew away.
"Sigh..... Guess im stuck here...." Mumbled Thunderlane.
He walked through the gates. Thunderlane could see several buildings and obstacles for training in flight set up. He also noticed a group of ponies his age playing with each-other. Some were playing tag, others were talking and laughing with eachother.
"This is school?" Said Thunderlane.
Thunderlane approached the other ponies. Looking around, Thunderlane saw that all the ponies were playing except for one.
The pony was a white pegasus filly with a short pink mane that had green streaks in it, and some freckles on her face. She looked the same age as himself. The filly was reading a book with a green cover.
Thunderlane approached her, the filly looked up from her book.
"Hey there." Said the Filly.
"This your first day here too?" Asked Thunderlane.
"Yep." Replied the filly. "My names Blossomforth."
"Im Thunderlane."
Thunderlane looked at the book.
"What book is that?"
Blossomforth looked at the book and then looked back at Thunderlane.
"Its a book my mommy gave me." Replied Blossomforth. "Wanna read it with me?"
"Sure." Replied Thunderlane.
He sat next to Blossomforth and looked at the book. The page it was on had a large picture of a lush green plain.
"Whats that?" Asked Thunderlane.
"My parents say its called the ground." Replied Blossomforth. "Its full of green stuff called grass and the ponies there don't have wings."
Thunderlane did not know about the world beyond cloudsdale.
"Ponies that dont fly?" Asked Thunderlane.
"Yeah." Replied Blossomforth. "My parents used to live on the ground before i was born."
She turned the page. The new page had pictures of various animals on it.
"These live on the ground top." Said Blossomforth. "Rabbits and doggies and snakes...."
"I don't know what any of those are." Said Thunderlane.
Blossomforth turned the page again.
"Oh! This is my favorite page!" Said Blossomforth.
The page had pictures of many flowers varying in shapes and colors.
"Mommy says those are flowers." Said Blossomforth. "I think they look very pretty."
"They do look kinda neat...." Added Thunderlane.
A pegasus stallion with a baseball cap and a whistle stepped out of a nearby building.
"Stop your games! Class is starting!" Said the Stallion.
All the other ponies stopped what they were doing and grouped in front of the stallion. Blossomforth slipped her book into her saddlebag and joined the group alongside Thunderlane.
"Im your teacher, Mr. Wings." Said the Stallion. "Your all here to learn the most important skill to every pegasus, how to fly."
"Well it is called flight school." Muttered Thunderlane.
"Since this is the first day for alot of you, today will be simply showing how well you can fly already." Said Mr.Wings.
One by one, the Young pegasi showed off their abilities in flying, most of them didnt get far off the cloud. Pretty soon, it was about to be Blossomforth's turn.
"You good at flying?" Asked Thunderlane.
"Well..... Uh...... I don't like flying..." Replied Blossomforth.
Thunderlane looked at her with surprise.
"Wh-what?"
"I feel comfortable with my hooves on the floor." Said Blossomforth.
"My dad says that any pegasus who doesn't like flying should cut their wings off and become an earth pony."
"Thats a horrible thing to say!" Said Blossomforth.
"Your up Blossomforth." Said Mr.Wing.
Blossomforth gulped and began to flap her wings. The best she could do was get an inch off the ground before her wings became tired and she landed face first on the cloud.
"Wow pathetic." Said one Pegasus.
Blossomforth covered her head in her hooves.
"I think shes gunna cry." Said the same pegasus.
"Cool." Replied another.
Thunderlane put on a determined gaze.
"Your one to talk." Said Thubderlane. "You only got three feet in the air."
The pegasus looked at Thunderlane.
"Lets see you do better." Said the Pegasus.
Thunderlane spread his wings.
"Watch me."
Thunderlane took off into the air. It wasn't high up, but was much higher than the other pegasi there did. Blossomforth lowered her hooves and looked up, ghasping when she saw Thunderlane in the air.
"Holy guacamole." Said the pegasus.
Thunderlane landed perfectly with a smug smile on his face.
"Think i just beat you."said Thunderlane.
"Thats quite impressive." Said Mr.Wing. "Flying like that at your age isn't something you see every day."
"Thanks." Said Thunderlane.
Thunderlane sat down next to Blossomforth.
"How did you do that?" Asked Blossomforth.
"Trade secret." Replied Thunderlane. "But I could teach you."
Blossomforth smiled.
"That would be great." Said Blossomforth.
The School day reached its end, the young Pegasi all galloped out, eager to return home. Except for Thunderlane and Blossomforth that is, the two pegasi left the school slower than the other students.
"First day and your already the best student in the class." Said Blossomforth.
"Yeah." Replied Thunderlane.
They walked until they reached a small store.
"Hang on, I need to stop in here." Said Blossomforth.
"Its ok, I got time." Said Thunderlane.
The two young pegasi stepped into the store. Inside there were several shelves of books, a checkout was set up near the exit.
"I just need to grab a book." Said Blossomforth.
She began to browse the shelves while Thunderlane followed her.
"Now where is..... Aha!"
Blossomforth eyed a book high up on the shelf. The Book had a grey cover and a picture of a cloud on it. The shelf itself was at least twice their height.
"Its a bit high up." Said Thunderlane. "Maybe I could fly up there and-"
"You cant." Interrupted Blossomforth. "The store has a no flying inside policy."
"Then how do we get it?" Asked Thunderlane.
Blossomforth put a hoof to her chin and began to think.
"Hm..... I got it!"
"Watch it!" Yelled Thunderlane.
Thunderlane was standing in front of the shelf while Blossomforth stood on his back on her hind legs, almost reaching the book.
"Im almost there....." Said Blossomforth.
She grabbed the book in her hooves.
"Got it!"
She suddenly lost her balance and fell off of Thunderlane and onto the floor.
"Blossomforth!"
Thunderlane stared worried at the white pegasus.
"You alright?"
Blosdomforth rubbed her head.
"Im ok." Said Blossomforth.
Thunderlane helped her up.
"We should cash out." Suggested Blossomforth.
She approached the register and took out some bits from her saddlebag.
"Have a nice day." Said the clerk, Taking the bits.
"You too mister." Said Blossomforth
She put the book in her saddle bag and Thunderlane walked up next to her.
"Lets go." Said Blossomforth.
The two pegasi walked out of the store.
Blossomforth and Thunderlane sat on a cloud bench. Blossomforth took out her new book.
"What book is it?" Asked Thunderlane.
"Its a book on weather." Replied Blossomforth.
She opened the book to a page. The page had several pictures of lightning bolts.
"Cool." Said Thunderlane.
Thunderlane got off the bench.
"I need to get home." Said Thunderlane. "Getting close to dinner time."
"See you at school tomorrow." Said Blossomforth.
Thunderlane walked the direction of home.
Thunderlane's home was a dark grey cloud house just off the main city of Cloudsdale. Thunderlane stepped inside. Sitting in the living room was an older pegasus stallion with a black coat, a dark grey mane, and a cloud with rain coming out of it for a cutie mark, Thunderlane's father Brave Storm.
"Im home!" Said Thunderlane.
Brave didn't move from his position on the couch.
"I have eyes." Said Brave. "I can see your here."
"Well I had a great day at sc-"
"Don't tell me about it." Said Brave.
Thunderlane frowned.
"Your mother will have dinner ready in half an hour." Said Brave. "Don't be late."
Thunderlane walked upstairs and into his room.
Thunderlane's room was small. His bed was set up in one corner, a toy chest stood in front of it, he had a closet on the left side of his room, a desk on his right side, and a nightstand with a radio on it. His walls were decorated with posters of the Wonderbolts.
Thunderlane laid on his bed, thinking about his new friend.
"I have a friend!" Thought Thunderlane. "My first Friend!"
For the rest of the night, he thought about Blossomforth.
