Tales of a Wandering Soul
Chapter 6: Escape
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI wake up and my head still felt like it was about to split into two pieces, I try to open my eyes and my vision was almost black but I knew I was awake. I was on some sort of dirt ground but it didn't feel like dirt, it felt more like the rough texture of burnt wood and ash. I try to move my hooves but I couldn't and they were behind me, what is this some sort of capture?
"Hey! The worm's waking up" I hear off in the distance behind me, where am I? It looks like i'm inside some sort of dark tent but my vision couldn't quite make out the surroundings. "What should we do with him?" "Just leave him to the dogs, i'm sure he'll be as tasty as the last pony we took." Oh no, just hearing that I didn't want to be bound any long. I couldn't even more my forelegs as they were bound as well, I felt like a caterpillar. I hear another voice off in the distance, "Kidnap those who have good purpose? Why must you heathens do this on the surface. I shall sendeth thee to the pits of hell, and maybe this pony will be able to free himself." That voice sounded familiar but I just couldn't say who it was. Is this my guardian angel, is this who was protecting me in my sleep this whole time?
I heard some heavy beating of flesh and it sounded very unpleasant against my eardrums. I heard something slice against what was binding me and I could move again, I looked around and all I saw were two ponies bleeding on the ground and a clean blade next to me inside a sheathe. I believe it was a machete, the kind that Jungle explorers use. I didn't want to think of having to kill anypony for me to leave this place but I'm left with no choice, I gotta try and not hurt anypony in my escape.
I shook my head and I rubbed my face to try and return to my senses and after a while I could see clearly again but my head still felt like it was about to explode. Who was that stallion that passed by? Why is he helping me and better yet, Why does he sound so familiar? The tent around me was covered in pictures drawn in blood and I didn't want to look at any of these any longer, much less the two corpses that are beaten to death. I put on my sheathe and I begun to sneak my way out of where ever I am. How long was I out? A few days? A few months? Years? I didn't feel any different from the day Jinx had told me "Good Night", I just hope it wasn't long.
I stepped out and I saw these ponies dressed up in furs and some even wore pony skin... Just looking at how dangerous and how disgusting these ponies were dressed I nearly made a noise in fear. There were ponies everywhere, I recalled what they were called in books, "Bandits" are what they're called. How horrible these Bandits are to be wearing these things and killing innocent ponies, worst of all using small innocent fillies like Jinx to lure ponies in. It was night and I could hear the crickets chirping and the bandits talking about how they were going to use me and what they were going to do to me.
It didn't help with keeping calm, I kept my breaths quiet and my hooves silent, I was sneaking past a patrol of two ponies. Snap! What was that? Did I step on a twig? "Hey! Who's there?" Oh no! Oh no! They've found me, I gotta run! I ran in a direction away from the voices and I heard Bandits yelling, "Hey! What's he doing?! Don't let him get away!! Stop him!! Our sacrifice is escaping!!"
Bandits were trying to stop me by means of making themselves obstacles, shooting arrows at me, throwing things at me. Some of these rocks and objects hit me, and an arrow went through my right hindleg, near my hoof. It felt as painful as having a fallen tree fall on your hoof or jumping off a cliff into a pool of ice. I was galloping on 3 hooves, they still continued with their rock and arrow throwing. I saw a spiky wooden wall and I burnt it with a torch I had snatched out of the hooves of a bandit. The fire was beginning to form on the wall as I let the flames hit the wall. The spikes and wood were burning quickly but it wasn't weak enough for me to break through. "He's at the wall! Nothing can let him out now! What's he doing to our precious wall!?" The voices are getting closer and closer and I saw the arrows hitting the wall more and more rapidly, I pulled out my machete in hopes of blocking some of these. I've been able to fend off the arrows and rocks being thrown at me but the Bandits were getting really close, I turned around and the wall continued to burn, there was just a small section that looked completely burnt.
I charged through it and it broke off successfully but my body was covered in splinters and I was breathing in charcoal. My entire body felt like it was about to collapse from waking up after such pain and having to endure more pain but I kept forcing myself awake. I ran away from the camp through the forest and I have finally escaped from captivity, but I knew they weren't going to give up the hunt.
