Apples, Parties, Magic, Destiny
Senario one
With Twilight raised to an Alicorn and successor to Celestia, she would have to choose from among her friends to become Luna's successor. The decision was tough but she went with Applejack. It was a smart decision; Twilight to rule beside Applejack, the sensible and level-headed yin to the orange alicorn's often headstrong yang. Applejack bids a teary farewell to her family and promises to visit at least once a year, but unfortunately, she is often too busy to hold onto this promise. Years pass. The news of Granny Smith's passing reaches her. Applejack attended the funeral. She's grieving, but she is a strong pony. Being in a very large family has exposed her to loss countless times. But there were more to come. Her four friends, more Apple Family members. All this time, she did not shed a tear. She had to be strong. It wouldn't stop Applejack, the most dependable of dependable ponies.
One day, she receives a letter. Applebloom is terminally ill. Applejack raced off to Ponyville hospital to see her. The elderly Applebloom lies feebly on the bed, perking up when she sees her sister. "Hi Applejack." "Howdy there, sugercube. Ya still look like a yung'un, even though you're seventy years old." They laughed, and begin to reminisce about Applebloom's crusading shenanigans. After a while, Applebloom asks a single question that froze Applejack dead in her tracks. "Applejack...what's dyin' like?" "Ah... Ah don't..." "Ah'm scared, big sis. Ah don't know whats gonna happen. But you're by mah side, so ah won't be scared no more." "That's right, sugercube. Ah'm here." Applebloom closes her eyes, never to poen them again. Applejack collapsed on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably, regretting not being able to visit homeand be with her family. She shed a tear for every friend that passed and every one to come.
The orange alicorn gathered herself, and shakily came to her feet. She walked out of the door. There was work to be done. She shed one tear more, heart cold with the realization of the Alicorn's Curse.
Apples, Parties, Magic, Destiny
Senario Two
Pinkie hops about excitedly in Canterlot Castle, eager to take on the role as Princess of the Night. She brings a refreshing new light to ruling, spreading joy, laughter, and parties to all. Nightlife explodes across Equestria, revitalized by the excitable pink alicorn, especially in Canterlot. The free spirited alicorn dances about Canterlot, singing and laughing. Even in the big city, in a matter of days, she is friends with everypony. Eventually, even the snooty Canterlot elite warm up to her. This was the first time an alicorn was not just revered, but truly loved by her people. "Forever is a long time to live," she naively thinks. "So that gives me plenty of time to make more friends all over Equestria!"
The passing of her other four friends, when they came, hit her like a truck. She didn't realize it hurt so badly. But the party princess was unbreakable in spirit, still maintaining the same aura of joy. She began to throw parties weekly in Canterlot Castle. After the passing of her friends, it's been taxing on her stamina, but she's peppy enough to continue her passionate partying. She hates when parties end. She would often try to convince guests to stay, but as the sun peaks its head over the horizon, many retreated home to sleep. "The party can't last forever." One guest reminds her. So it continues, day after day.
One day, she knocks on somepony's door, as usual, to let them know of the next party she was throwing. No responce. She opens the door and enters. She sees a light orange unicorn mare, silently laying on her bed. "Wake up, silly!" No response. She approaches the silent mare, the cheeriness in her voice struggleing to stay alive. "There's goingto be a party at the castle! And you're invited..." No response. She reaches out and touches the unmoving pony, unable to feel any warmth. Her heart sinks. An aching pain seizes her. A familiar one. The same dread hangs over her head throughout the day beyond the facade of her sunny, cheery face. Two days later, she catches wind of another death in Canterlot. She knew precisely who it was too. A young, light blue pegasus filly in Baltimare who dreamed of making rainbows in Cloudsdale. She felt the pain again. The same pain she felt when Rainbow, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Applejack died. Another day. Old earth pony stallion owning a watch store. Had a love of freshly baked bread. The same pain. A week later. A unicorn mare. Mother of two. Enjoys tennis and soap operas. The same pain again. Three days later. Another friend. On and on it went. Ponies died around her, while she lived on. And the pain was always the same. She knew those ponies. She got to know them.Got to share her thoughts and feelings with them when they were alive. And in turn, they opened to her. Death after death wore away at her vitality. Eventually, she stopped throwing parties. She stopped strolling around Canterlot. She stopped leaving the castle altogether. She once relished in the joy of friendship. The joy of sharing the wonderful experience of living with everyone she met. To create memories and relationships that remained for the rest of her life. But..."The party can't last forever." The pain of loss was inevitable. And so long as the bonds she formed caused her pain, she would refrain from ever making them again. And so, the pink alicorn hid in the castle, tossing the stars about the skies and carry the moon into the sky. She stared at the moon as it went, wondering when her party would end.
Apples, Parties, Magic, Destiny
This is what Twilight does in each Senario.
Years, decades, centuries pass. Her friends die, her family dies, each one of them taking a small piece of her heart with them. The pain nearly becomes unbearable, and her royal duties almost suffer. But Twilight is nothing if not dedicated to a task given to her by her old mentor. So she buries her heart. Soon, Twilight masters the dissembling necessary for an immortal; her heart became locked away, behind a cool and logical outer shell. Thousands of years flow by like a rspeeding river, time having a different feel for an alicorn as compared to a pony. Finally, time catches up to her, and she recieves a notice from a royal envoy. There is a dying dragon in Ponyville, requesting to see her.
Twilight arrives in Ponyville, a major metropolitan hub by this time.At the center of town, a gigantic tree several hundred feet high stands tall and daunting the entrance to its inner sanctum reading "Elements of Harmony Memorial Library", below it reading "Dedicated by Princess Sparkle." Curled around the tree, a massive form. Purple scales faded, green spikes drooped, eyes nearly white with cataracts. Spike. Dear Spike, gone for those thousands of years. Princess Sparkle arrives whitin the hour of receiving the communique, her wings spread majestically as she lands without a sound. The old dragon picks his head up and smiles. "Hi Twi. Long time..." His voice wheezy and thin, those milky eyes searching the darkness. "Hello, Spike" Princess Sparkle responds, her voice cool and collected. "I arrived as soon as I heard. How long tdo you think you have?" "Not too long...it's funny, I always thought I'd outlast you. We dragons are the longest lived in all of Equestria, except for the alicorns." Spike chuckles, a coughing fit wracking his massive frame and sending weak puffs of smoke from his near-toothless maw. A silence settles over the scene, dragon and alicorn regarding one another, the weight of a question hanging heavy between them.
"Why did you leave, Spike?" Princess Sparkle finally asks. Spike's smile fades. "You could have lived closer. You could have written..." Her voice cracks a bit, her facade of emotionless detachment breakingfor a split second. "There was no place for me here and you know it, Twi...besides, I couldn't watch all of my friends die. Pinkie Pie(or Applejack), Rainbow, Fluttershy..." His jaw quivers a moment before looking away. "Rarity..." Spoken quietly, the shame and guilt of millenia in his heart. "She always thought you'd come back. To see her." Princess Sparkle moved closer, her voice taking on the lecture tone that Spike had come to regard with deep nostalgia. "At first, I thought it was conceit, that she just loved the attention you gave her. But as the years went by and she never stopped talking about you, her Spikey-Wikey..." "Twi, please..." "But she loved you, Spike. We all did. But none like Rarity. She never did find a pony who treaded her quite like you did..." Another scilence descended over the scene. Spike's eyes close, tears beginning to flow. "I would have thought you'd have had the decency to attend her funeral. But what could I have expected from a child. Because that's what you are Spike, a selfish child." The tears are flowing, and not simply from Spike. Tears are coating Princess Sparkle's cheeks and she can't bring herself to notice, too hot is her rage and betrayal, simmering beneath for thousands of years. "WHY DID YOU LEAVE, YOU STUPID LITTLE DRAGON!? WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME!? WHY DIDN'T YOU COME BACK!? YOU WERE LIKE A SON TO ME AND...and..." Spike raises his weary head to stare at Twilight.
The alicorn is shaking, her eyes closed tight, her wings beating against her sides. "Twi..." Twilight Sparkle dashes to her friend's side, burying her face in his long neck. Her crown slips and falls to the ground, but she pays it no mind. "Oh Spike, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it. Oh please forgive me..." Her apologies continue unabated for several minutes, the tears flowing, her face pressed against his scaly neck. Her heart open and raw, the pain nearly debilitating in its bone-deep intensity. The pain of thousands of years of loss and death poured out against her oldest friend's neck. Finally, Twilight feels the weight of one of Spike's massive hands descending on her, pulling her in close. Spike doesn't speak, simply curling his long neck around her and laying his head by her side. Twilight's breathing slowly returns to normal as the warm, comforting closeness of her friend, her oldest, dearest friend... her Spike...envelops her. His chest rises and falls. Twilight kisses her friend's cheek. "I love you, Spike...you're my very best friend..." Spike doesn't speak.
Spike can't speak. "...you were...the best assistant...any unicorn could ever want..." His chest rises and falls Rises and falls. "Please..." Rises. "Don't leave me again..." Falls. He remains still.
