After The Impact

The world seems okay today, like a typical yesterday. The mockingbirds sing o'er the woman's grave, the freshwater stream runs through the park, a guy is taking a shit in the outhouse, another guy inhales some air, and a bunch of picnickers on the grassy fields look at the cartoony mountain ranges, enjoying the view of the sky. Everypony enjoyed their lives, except those who are already suffering a lot of miseries in her life right now. Let's see. 6 ponies are doing their daily lives with their labor at Ponyville, 2 music duos are still finishing their songs for their next album in the Fillyphines, spa therapists who worked together before now moved to an Asian city where they earn more customers to massage, and a lone Adventurer, separated from her sister, who walks at the jungles of the unknown parts of Madagascar, tries to find a certain artifact of historical significance, hidden beneath the darkness, which is darker than RGB(0,0,0). All but some of them will hear of a rumor which will now change their history, their destiny, and how they will live life the way they did. A princess looks at the night sky gazing upon a thousand cosmic shapes, and then she saw something that was not a part of the sky before; a large comet the size of 3 football fields has been detected. It's path is shown to be heading towards the Earth. Alarmed and shocked like a frilled lizard, she calls her elder sister about the news.

"So you're telling me that a comet is heading towards us? As in, it will destroy anything near its area?" Princess Celestia asked.

"Our magic is too weak to alter its direction!" Luna walks around with fear on her face "It travels at speeds that no pegasus can even match. What should we do now?"

Princess Celestia thinks for a moment. "We should launch our latest rocket explosive. It might be enough to alter its path."

The night comes. They still focus on the giant rock that will annihilate the earth, and prepare to launch their strongest rocket explosive. The princess denies sending the report to her greatest student for now, as she believes that she might panic, never sleep and tell everypony so that they will all panic too. Or worse, time travel to the past and alter the future, just like the last time when Homer turned his toaster into a time machine. Daylight comes, sun risen, it's morning. A message to Twilight comes out of Spike's stomach while she eats her Cap'n Crunch cereal. She opens the letter. It says the following words:

My dear Faithful Student

A large comet has been detected from the sky. It's expected to hit near Madagascar. Approximate location - Antananarivo.
We are now launching a rocket to either destroy it or alter its path. If this fails, may God have mercy on us all, or just place a brown paper bag on your head, lie on the ground, and accept it.

Twilight got shocked, but felt hope as she knows a rocket will be launched in an attempt to destroy it. She informs her friends about it, and then the news spread like a pandemic. It was day that time, they didn't react much like what the Princess expected, having hope that they will be able to stop the comet from destroying them. The report was now officially sent to Equestria Inquirer under Celestia's command, and then shares a footage of the rocket being launched towards the sky, heading towards the icy rock, to confirm it was true. The TV is on and many now watch the news about the recently discovered comet, some thinking it's actually a terrorist attack to destroy another nation.

"The Solar Empire now launched a rocket in an attempt to destroy the comet approaching ahead of us. Its diameter is 350 meters across, traveling at speeds of 15 kilometers per hour, way faster than Rainbow Dash! It may be small, but due to its speed, if it hits the earth, it'd be like 40 volcanoes erupting all at the same time, causing a giant crater to form at where it is heading towards to, which is still kept hidden as secret until further notice.. We are expecting our strongest rocket to either destroy the comet or alter its path. That will be for today, I'm Brother Kim and always remember that life is just weather-weather."

As the news flash now switch to a Bosco Syrup commercial, a duo of musicians now started talking about the giant comet.

"Hm... I think it's more like a conspiracy to drive us all nuts, Tavi." Vinyl said to her partner, Octavia.

"Whatever is going on, you're always nuts." Vinyl laughed at the humor, though Octavia's actually serious.

"Okay, so we'll just throw a rave when this story is actually real. Everypony will be fine after that." Vinyl suggested.

"I do hope so, or you're just trying to make it look like nothing happened." Octavia replied, understanding her plans.

"That was the point!" Vinyl responded.

The news flash interrupted TV channels everywhere once again, showing a satellite footage of the rocket hitting the giant bulk of ice. The rocket plummets to the comet slowly, about to kiss it, and then collides with it. The explosion was huge, but the comet only lost 0.07% of its mass and its course wasn't altered, even by one bit. The asteroid was too massive and their current technology isn't enough to prevent the giant rock from colliding with the Earth. And then everyone started running like hell.

"Screw this, give me my beer." Vinyl asked Octavia for some Budweiser, who is staring at the television, jaw opened, some bits of her saliva dripping towards the floor, and knowing that the music she's composing no longer matters.

"Um... Tavi? Are you alright?" Vinyl becomes sympathetic to her friend, who then screams and cries loudly, teary-eyed, and running into her bedroom.

"What a baby." Vinyl whispered to herself.
