The sky was algow with the last traces of orange and gold light from the setting sun as it dipped beneath the horizon. In a castle standng on of the highest mountain tops in Equestria two regal sisters stood on a balcony of the fairytale-esque structure as they performed their duty for the last time that day.
Princess Celestia looked down at her younger sister while the sun was just setting below the horizon. She felt a small pang of sadness and thousand year old guilt as she saw the slightly troubled look on the younger Alicorn's face as she raised the moon for the first time in one thousand years.
"Are you alright Luna?" the elder princess asked gently.
"I am fine big sister, it has...just been a while that is all" Luna replied, her eyes cast to the darkenning night sky as she brought the stars to life one beautiful white dot at a time.
"Are you sure? I noticed you had a little trouble raising the moon this evenning"
Luna flinched.
"It has been so long since we last spoke like this, for a thousand years I have known nothing but silence..." the alicron of the night stated solemnly.
With the night sky complete Both princess could hear the melody of music reach their ears as Luna walked away from her sister and rested her front hooves on the railing.
"When you're alone..." Princess Luna sang in a beautiful voice worthy of any opera. "Silence is all you know..."
"When you're alone, silence is all you know"
Celestia walked up to her sister and wrapped a wing around her as she joined the song.
"Let in the noise and let it grow. "
The younger princess looked on in astonishment as Celestia continued.
"When you're alone, silence is all you see...When you're alone, silence is all you'll be"
"Give me your hoof and come to me..." sang the elder princess as she offered a golden shod hoof to her younger sister and the two took to the sky.
"When you are here..." Luna sang quietly "Music is all around"
"When you are near,.." Celestia echoed "Music is all around"
"Open your eyes, don't make a sound." The white alicorn contiued as they circled around the castle and the sing reached an apex.
"Let in the shadow! Let in the shadow!" Luna sana and the guards and servants around the catsle took notice and joined her for the next line.
"Let in the light of your bright shadow. Let in the shadow, let in the shadow. Let in the light of your bright shadow!"
Celestia smiled at her younger sister as they landed the garden, The females of the castle staff joining the ivory princess as she sang softly.
"Let in the light, let in the light...Let in the light of your sweet shadow."
Luna nuzzled up against Celestia as the music ximmered down slightly.
"When you're alone, oh, Silence is all you know...Silence is all! Silence is all around, Silence is all! Silence is all around
.." Luna finifshed as the elder of the two wrapped a wing around her.
"I really missed you..." Luna murmured.
"I missed you too" Celestia replied warmly and ast her gaze to the night sky.
For one night the royal pony sisters sat in royal gardens of Canterlot and watched the stars.
