Twilight's Scroll 1: The duke of Earl
Chapter 1: Twilight's Scroll
Load Full StoryThe duke of Earl visits Equestria
(Not to be taken seriously. Helps to read in posh or Irish accent)
(Tribute to EpicDonus, who is sadly no longer with us, it is such a great loss to me, so I put my heart and soul into creating this… LOL JK I don’t have a soul)
It was a regular day in Ponyville, the sun shone with Celestia’s power, the perfectly shaped Pegasus clouds dotted a perfect sky and the citizens of ponyville cantered around doing their daily activities. “Just an average day in ponyville.” The citizens of ponyville thought, but what they didn’t know is that today wouldn’t be as ‘average’ as they thought…
Twilight sparkle, locally known egghead and student of Princess Celestia walked the roads of Ponyville with a eager gait, the reason for this however is not surprising, she recently acquired a scroll from the princess’s secret archives. The scroll was on inter-dimensional time travel, a scroll that if acquired in this world would be useless, why? Because we don’t have magic you twit, and that’s not taking in the fact that we can’t read nor translate their blooming language! But I digress; you came here to read a story, not answer your stupid piffle.
Twilight continued her ‘almost’ agonizingly long walk home; it took every ounce of her will not to break out into a gallop to reach her destination quicker, but her recent read of ‘social standards’ lent to her by friend rarity told her otherwise.
Twilight continued her slow canter towards her home when a thought occurred to her.
“Why not teleport? Surely a simple teleportation spell wouldn’t react with any of the spells in the book, I mean nopony would be foolish enough to do that, right?” She contemplated, this was not uncommon for the mare, to go into deep thought over small matters, but this was nothing small, oh no! The entire fate of Equestria rested on whether or not she risked activating a spell in that book, she could bring something small and un-dangerous through, or something big and murderous, surely she wouldn’t risk that would she?
“Ah what the heck.” She said out load, attracting stares from the other ponies that walked the street. Her horn lit up a beautiful violet and in a flash she was gone…what did you expect? Of course she teleported, if she didn’t then I wouldn’t have a story to write and you wouldn’t have a story to read, this story happened because of a result of her foolishness and this may be a spoiler for that fact, that yes, something did happen because she teleported, but that was obvious anyway and if you didn’t keep asking these stupid questions we might have already gotten to the main point of the story but yet again…I digress.
Now from the road to home we find ourselves in Twilight Sparkle’s library, where the young mare’s assistant, a young dragon by the name of Spike, if that surprises you then you should leave because this story is filled with them…I’m very serious, the amount of surprise in this story is worrying.
Spike was doing activities that Library assistance are supposed to do, organizing books in alphabetical order an- oh, it appears I don’t know what else they are supposed to do, is that it? Really? Hmm, okay then. So as I was saying Spike was alphabetizing books in the correct order, because apparently the young dragon had nothing better to do, I mean, if you’ve been raised in a library for most of your natural born life your not going to pick up a whole lot of hobbies are you?
Spike had spent all evening organizing those books, from A to Z he lined them up perfectly in hopes of pleasing his mast- I mean, ‘sister’ in hopes of receiving one of his only pleasures in life…Gems. Yes as strange as it may seem one of dragons favorite treats are gems, so apparently the not only do dragons sleep on their gems, they eat them as well…marvelous.
Spike hopped of his trusty stepladder, one he used that enabled him to reach the books he organized daily. As his feet hit the ground with a soft tap, he was immediately blinded by a sudden flash in front of his eyes and fell dazed on the floor, before he could register what had happened he was immediately crushed by two hundred or so books. You and I both can guess what was the cause of that....
“Spike I’m ho- Spike!” Half yelled Twilight at the discovery that almost all the Libraries books lay upturned on the Libraries oak floor. Underneath the pile of books Spike struggled to escape the weight of the books that currently lay on top of him, but after a while the weight of all the books vanished as Twilight lifted off the poor dragon with her magic.
“What happened Spike? I asked you clean up, not make a mess of the place!” Said Twilight in a scolding tone; completely oblivious to the fact that she caused the mess in the first place.
“Bu-“ Spike began, before being interrupted by the violet mare.
“No ‘buts’ Spike. I need this place in tiptop condition for my presentation for Princess Celestia tomorrow.” Said the Violet mare, her tone going slightly higher as she reached the end of the sentence indicating nervousness. The dragon was about to reply but instead he gave an exasperated sigh.
“Fine…” Spike said stubbornly and crossing his arms. Twilight gave a nod with a smile and released Spike on the ground, his face still adjourning a scowl, however Twilight noticed this and gave sigh before looking back down at the dragon with a motherly smile on her face.
“Who knows, maybe if a ‘certain’ dragon would clean up this library before tomorrow maybe that ‘certain’ dragon would receive a gem for his efforts?” Said Twilight, emphasizing “certain” to make it obviously clear she meant spike, but he still looked as grumpy as before, so she decided to play her trump card.
“How about two gems?” Pitched Twilight, lightly elbowing spike in his side. (Well as close as pony could get to elbow someone because they don’t exactly have elbows do they?) Spike seemed interested by the offer but continued to keep his arms crossed, but his scowl softened slightly; replaced with a hint of intrigue.
“I think this certain ‘dragon’ appreciate four gems more…” pitched Spike, a smug grin on his lips. I may have failed to mention this but dragons can be quite greedy (If them hoarding gems weren’t clear enough evidence for this.).
“Three.” Said Twilight quite sternly, her tone made it apparent that she wouldn’t go any higher. I may have mentioned this, but dragons can be quite greedy and when they get greedy, and I mean really greedy, I don’t know weather this only applies only to young dragons but they change into gigantic versions of themselves and therefore overcome with greed they basically do, as you would say, ‘wreck shit up’ just to acquire more wealth and ‘things’ and as you can guess by me telling you this is because this has happened before to Spike, so Twilight has to make sure he doesn’t get out of line again but yet again…I digress.
“Fine.” The young dragon said, a smug smile on his face. He jumped to his feet and immediately got to work rearranging books in correct order and tidying the library.
Twilight on the other ha- ho- handoof ascended the library stairs at an eager pace to eagerly study to then eagerly sleep…eagerly. As soon as she entered her bedroom she made a mad dash to her bed to begin reading the borrowed scroll, almost tripping several times in the process, as she reached the ladde- yes ladder, what? No it’s not a top bunk, she actually has to climb to reach her bed, I know it bad bedroom design but what can you do?
As I was saying, she reached her ladder and began to climb it, and yet again I don’t know how her pony physiology can allow that, but I digress. She reached her bed and pulled the scroll out of her saddlebag and sprawled it out on her bed and her eyes instantly glued themselves to the scroll, her mind longingly wanting to take in the secrets and information the scroll held, knowledge that no other pony in Equestria could possibly know and secrets that no one else but the royal sisters themselves…but there was an teensy weensy bitsy problem.
“ITS BLANK!” Twilight bellowed with uproar. She grabbed the scroll in her magic and brought it close to her face to confirm what she just said and indeed…it was true. She released the scroll from her magic and began to panic, which involved sweat, shrinking pupils and fits of hyperventilation.
Twilight was prone to doing this, especially if it involves anything to do with the princesses such as this. Unfortunately for Twilight being the Protégé and Student of a princess means a lot of her life is actually revolved around the princess so its understandable to a degree why she is often thrown into these fits from time to time.
Meanwhile on the ground floor of the library Spike was doing his thang! ...And by ‘thang!’ I mean pointless book organizing for an over bearing mother who only rewards him with ice cream and gems…any who. Spike was organizing the books in correct alphabetical order from the moment he started and due to his good ability to do just that he was already a quarter of the way done, doing letters from A to F and halfway through G swiftly in almost record time! But unfortunately as seen earlier bad luck practically plagues this Dragon, and the main source of his bad luck was Twilight I think you can guess what happens next…
“ITS BLANK!” Shouted Twilight from her bedroom, causing Spike to fall of the bookcase in surprise…and the books along with him (The books weren’t surprised they just fell off t- Oh forget it!).
Spike lay crushed under the large amount of books that currently found their place on top of his teeny tiny body. Spike then began to squirm and writhe, attempting to escape his entrapment under the books. After minutes of grunting and thrusting spike suddenly came…
To the realization that he could have easily escaped the book prison by merely crawling forward to the large gaping hole that was a few inches to his north, and that’s exactly what he did.
After escaping the tomb like prison of the books Spike’s first priority was to regain his breath, it was pretty claustrophobic in there after all! After regaining his breath he immediately knew his next priority was to find the source of ‘great fall’ as he would later become to call it. But spike knew that only one mare in the entirety of Ponyville could yell at that magnitude: Twilight Sparkle.
Spike ran as fast as his stubby little dragon legs could carry him to Twilight’s abode, hoping to find the reason behind Twilight’s ‘Yells-iness’. Spike hopped individually up each and every step to Twilight’s room, appearing just outside her door. Spike stood frozen outside Twilight’s door, his arm reaching slowly for the knob (Don’t be immature.) until his hand wrapped around the knob and ever so slowly, (like every suspenseful door opening ever.) he slowly turned it, it, emitting a slight creaking sound in turn.
Once he could turn it no more he pushed it open lightly, the light from the stairway slowly illuminating the bedroom as more of the door opened, allowing light to flow into the room. Spike walked slowly into the bedroom, his teeth chattering in fear and small beads of sweat flowed down his head in nervousness (Don't ask me how a reptile sweats, because I simply do not know.).
After what seemed like hours of suspenseful walking (It really wasn't.), Spike reached the fabled P.I.F.A.H (Physically impossible for a horse) ladder, and began his climb. Spike climbed up the ladder slowly with some degree of effort he finally reached the top, lightly gasping for air as he did.
"Twilight?" Spike called, hoping to receive a reply...He received none. Spike then took a step forward, creaking a floorboard and recoiling at the noise. He then took another step and this time instead of a creaking floor board he was rewarded with a rage filled grunt and the sound of hoof stamping on wood. Spike took a giant leap back, just standing at the edge of the ladder, reading himself incase he needed to start running.
"Spike!" Came Twilight's voice from the other side of the bed, her thought, still hidden from sight.
"Um, yeah?" Spike answered, his voice slightly wavering slightly, most likely preparing to flee any moment. Then suddenly Twilight teleported onto her mattress a determined smile on her face.
"Woa-" Was all Spike could say before falling off the platform onto the library floor below.
"GET ME A BOOK!"
