I stared outside at the downpour of rain that was making little noises on the roof.

"It isn't that bad of a day right?" I asked myself almost expecting a reply. "A little rain never hurt anypony, right?" I said to myself while pulling a scarf around my neck and levitating an umbrella from the basket by the door. "I mean, at least I'll get to see her again," I said nearly blushing at the thought of the most beautiful mare I had ever met.

I almost couldn't wait to run out into the pouring rain just so I could get there a few minutes early, but I stopped myself just long enough to make sure I had my raincoat on and everything in the house was turned off. Then I slowly locked the door so I could have an excuse to gallop all the way to the restaurant where we were meeting today. When I got there I was soaking wet, but I knew it was for a good cause because as soon as I was in the door, I saw her waving for me to come sit with her near the back of the restaurant. As I slowly trotted to her seat, I noticed some stallions giving her some looks, and I positioned myself to where I could shoot them a stare that shouted, "Hay! Back off, because this one is mine!"

I swear to Celestia that she has a voice like honey, so sweet that it just soothes the soul as soon as her mouth opens, which lucky for me, I believe I will be hearing a lot of tonight.

"So how has your day been?" She asked me casually.

"Fine, just fine. I don't really mind the rain. I think it adds a little bit flavor to this quiet town, don't you Cloudy?"

"It's okay I guess, but I really love a sunny day that lets me stretch my wings and get in a little practice for my tryouts for the Wonderbolts." The gray pegasus mare replied to the question I was already feeling stupid for asking.

"Have you gotten the routine down yet?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"Not yet, but I'm almost there," she replied, "I just need to smooth out the coup de gras and it will be perfect."

Just like you, I thought.

"So how are your studies going?" Cloudy Day asked me.

"They are going wonderful!" I exclaimed, "I just borrowed a book from Miss Sparkle about the origins of alicorns; did you know that some ponies speculate that they were an accident made by a unicorn and a pegasus some two-thousand years ago?"

"Really?! I thought they were just there one day. Ya'know," she clopped her hooves together, "Just like that."

"I'm still not sure if I can write a whole book on the subject though, there really just isn't enough information."

"Nonsense. I've known you long enough to know that if there is research to be done, you're going to get it done."

I blushed, "You have the best way of making ponies blush, did you know that?"

"I've known you long enough to know that too," she said, giggling afterwards at my blush deepening. "Heck, we've been best friends for as long as I can remember."

Those words hit me like a brick wall. I tried not to look hurt, but I felt crushed.

"Are you okay?" she asked, obviously concerned, "You don't look too good all of a sudden."

"Yeah, I'm just a little bored, that's all," I lied.

"You're such a horrible liar." She wasn't wrong, "C'mon lets go back to my place, and we can talk about it there."

My heart skipped a beat."You're place? Are you sure?" I stammered, blushing painfully hard.

"What's the matter?" She teased, "Afraid of getting a little wet?"

If only she knew.
