Three Months Later

We had been going strong for almost four months now. By now we both had gotten a steady source of income from her job as a weather mare and my book selling decently enough. Surprisingly enough, the documentation of the creation of our rulers was not that well kept. But I'm sure that both Luna and Celestia are watching over us with loving eyes. Both Miss Sparkle (she preferred Twilight) and Cloudy were intrigued by my work. She was really nice, Miss Spar- Twilight, almost like the sister I never had. Every time I saw her she asked if Cloudy and I were still dating. She seemed to really care about us, and it made me feel sorry for her being alone. She had her friends and her "Number One Assistant Spike" with her most of the time but I could see it in her eyes. She was missing something and I really wanted to help her with that, but this was one of the things in which I felt awkward talking to her about. I went on two or three weeks with this feeling of want, but not being able to do anything because of my shyness. When I decided on my next topic of research, the science of stars, I had a sudden epiphany. We should just take her on a date with us one night. That way she would get exposed to an open relationship and hopefully be inspired to pursue her love related wants freely; I just hoped that both she and Cloudy would go along with the idea. I started planning out the night, there was going to be a country fair in town next week, that would make it a lot more natural than going to a fancy restaurant like Three Fillies where she would probably feel out of place. But first I had to ask her if she was interested in anypony. Which was going to suck, a lot. So when Cloudy got home from work, which was rather late, she was met at the door with a box of her favorite chocolates and a warm drink to help her recover from pushing and bucking snow-filled clouds all day. She looked suspicious but accepted because of how cold she was and the smell of the alluring candies made by BonBon herself.as I expected from a mare with as sharp a mind as hers she finished her tasty snack before asking anything that might lead to me taking away her prized treats.

"So," she said casually, "what do you want?"

I expected nothing less from her, "You know Miss Sparkle right?"

"You mean Twilight?" She asked reminding my subconscious of its mistake, "I thought everypony in town did?"

"Well, I was thinking," I said trying to stall for the moment that I had prepared myself for, "maybe one night next week we could all go to the fair together."

She nearly choked on her hot cider, "WHAT?!"

"Oh, I'm sorry if I made you mad." I said softly, trying to not sound shut down.

"Why would we do that?" She replied quickly, trying to find the cause of my sudden heretical thoughts.

"She just looks so alone, and I don't want her to have to feel like I did for a long time."

She sighed, obviously hitting a subject she didn't want to touch on, "What did you have in mind?"

I explained my plan to her and she seemed to like it. She agreed that we could do this only once and if I owed her one. I was so relived to hear this that I said I would owe her two if she could do one thing for me. Pep talk me into talking to Twilight. She looked taken aback by my question. She told me that if she did, it would sound too fake for Twilight to want to come clean. I would be on my own in a foreign environment that felt like it was going to kill me. Cloudy reassured my that the worst she could do was to say no and ask me to leave, but that sounded pretty bad to me. She reminded me of when we were just little fillies asking each other who they liked the most out of their class, and she stated that it would be the same sort of thing. I hoped so.

The next day I went to the library as usual to look at a copy of Star Swirl the Bearded's work. But today, I had a second objective. Today I was going to find out who she wanted as her special somepony. After a few hours of small talk, and research, she asked if I wanted to go to lunch with her today. I recognized this as my chance to ask her because Spike wouldn't be with us. I nodded happily and followed her to The Market Garden, a decent place to eat especially if you liked daisy sandwiches. I took my chance of opportunity right after the drinks came and our waiter took the food order.

"So, are you seeing anypony right now?" I asked trying to sound casual.

"What do you mean?" She asked sounding genuinely confused.

"You know," I prodded, "who do you like?"

"Like as a friend?" She sputtered out.

"No, like, like like."

"Oh, " she blushed, "well she is really pretty."

That was going to make things both simpler and harder."And?" I had to know more than that.

"She's in my library a lot."

Well crap, please don't say me. "C'mon, who is it?" I pleaded.

"And she's the prettiest pegasus mare I've ever seen."

"Well who is she?!" I was really needing to know.

She leaned over and whispered into my ear, "Rainbow Dash."
