Chapters Princess Celestia sat in her private chambers reading a letter that she had just recieved from Twilight Sparkle.
Dear Princess Celestia,
Recently we've been having some concerns about Pinkie Pie here in Ponyville. Her Pinkie sense seems to be just to hard to handle. Her addiction to partying has also raised some question to her mental state. To be honest I am not really sure what to do but I would like to know more about her thought process and how her mind actually works. She has the ability to break the laws of physics and is quite insane with her popping up whenever you least expect it. I've read in a book that years ago a study on the mind was preformed. Princess Celestia, I am asking if I can preform a test of my own on Pinkie Pie?
Your Faithful Student,
Twilight Sparkle

Twilight unraveled a scroll that was from Princess Celestia. The golden seal shined against the ambient light, and it was labeled with a rather large C; which stood for Celestia.
Dear Twilight Sparkle,
In response to your letter relating to Pinkie Pie. I believe that it would be a great idea to study her and her mind. Even though you are my very best student, you may have some trouble getting into the mind of Miss Pie. To get into the mind of another, it takes a great deal of practice and magical endurance. When in somepony's mind you need to be careful not to alter anything and be aware not to evoke dangerous thoughts. The dangerous thoughts can harm you. What you see in the mind is not real and are all figments of Pinkie's imagination, and you need to be careful not to mistake what is seen in the mind for reality and vice-versa, because this leads to getting stuck in the mind permanently. With all these dangers, I still wonder if you are up for the task. If you reconsider, I will think no less of you. I request that you come to the castle in Canterlot to receive further instruction if you are still interested.
Princess Celestia
Twilight moved the scroll away from her and set it down on the desk to her right. She found her way out of bed and moved slowly, so that she did not disturb Spike's slumber.
The purple unicorn pony continued out of her bedroom and down the stairs to the library. Twilight looked at the surrounding book cases and looked for a book relating to psychology. Her horn lit a light purple and pulled it down from the shelf.
The green hardback read Pony Psychology . Twilight set the book down on a desk next to the window. She opened the book and began to read.
Twilight was intrigued at the information bestowed upon her. She knew what she had to do next; go to Canterlot and meet with Princess Celestia.

The next morning Twilight had Spike send a letter back to Celestia stating that they would be on their way to Canterlot. Spike blew on the scroll with his green flames and the letter was gone.
Twilight walked over to the desk in her bedroom and packed a few things for the journey ahead. She brought ink, a quill, a few books to read for the trip and her lunch for the day. Spike just sat and watched as the unicorn tied the saddlebag around her.
They left early that morning, to be sure that were not late for the morning train to Canterlot. The showed the to conductor their tickets and they sat down in an open seat together.
.
Once they arrived in Canterlot they were greeted by two royal guards dressed in golden armor covering their chest and head
Twilight and Spike were ushered into a carriage and they were wisped away into the direction of the castle. They arrived at the castle with greetings from other royal guards and scholars around the premises.
As soon as the gate was open Twilight and Spike moved into the castle in search of the Princess, with a royal guard following closely behind.
With a knock on the door to Celestia's chambers. they were greeted by a large white mare with piercing blue eyes.
"Twilight, good to see you!" The princess exclaimed.
Twilight nodded her head with a slight smile and followed Spike into the room and made herself comfortable in a chair next to a rather large dresser.
Princess Celestia started to speak in a serious tone. "Now to the matter at hand; Mind Travel .
"Yes Princess, I have a few questions though. Will this harm Pinkie in any way? How will I get in and out of the mind without getting lost inside the mind myself?"
The princess retorted " If all goes to plan, and nothing happens to cause any trauma directly to the brain, then everything should be fine. As for your entrance and exit, it'd be easier to show you."
Her horn lit a bright yellow as she picked up a book off the bed. The book was a hardback with a blue cover and was entitled Mind Travel .
The princess flipped through the book until she found the page she wanted. The page revealed a rather large diagram of the steps on how to Mind Travel .
Twilight studied all the steps carefully in silence.
The steps were in order and you could not fall out of the order, or the whole spell would go wrong. The steps showed a anonymous pony with a horn lit, and saying the words to the spell. A ray of magic floated across the air and it reached the other ponies forehead.
A caption under the picture read What is seen in the mind is undetermined. More real than reality itself, which is which?
Once Twilight understood what the spell entailed, she looked to the princess and said "I think I am ready for the task" in a serious tone.
Princess Celestia nodded in agreement.
A Not So Simple Explanation
After a along discussion with Princess Celestia, Twilight and Spike left Canterlot with the book. Spike walked close to Twilight, holding the blue book in his dragon claws.
"Twilight?" Spike asked
"Yes Spike?"
"Um. I was wondering, How long are you going to be gone for when you go inside the mind of Pinkie Pie?"
The purple unicorn thought for a moment and retorted back "Well Spike, it says in the book that in the mind, time is pretty much undetermined because of the electromagnetic brain waves disturb time and space. I may not even come back; that is the real danger. It also didn't help that the book only mentions a entrance into the mind and not an exit. Weird."
Twilight was still questioning what she had read at the castle in Canterlot and did not fully understand.
Spike on the other hand was not taking it to lightly that he may never see his best friend again.

By the time they found their way into Ponyville, it was nearly 5 o'clock. Twilight and Spike managed to get out of the crowded train, then they were off to see Pinkie Pie.
Twilight and Spike finally made it to Sugarcube Corner and met with Pinkie Pie. The pink mare was as exuberant as usual and greeted them accordingly from behind the counter.
"Hiii GUYS!!!!!!!" Pinkie shouted. "Soooo. What can I do for ya? she asked in her usual bubbly tone.
Spike stood silent next to Twilight as Twilight answered back. "Well Pinkie. Were not really here to eat, but we would like to talk when you get some time off."
"Oh. Its about the party isn't it Twi?" Pinkie questioned looking directly at the purple pony and the baby dragon.
"Um. What Party?" Twilight asked politely with a confused look on her face
"This one!!! SURRRPRISE!!!! Pinkie shouted as confetti and balloons rained from the ceiling. Pinkie danced and bounced around the tables in her own world as customers watched her gesticulated movements as they ate.
Twilight sighed loudly, even though it could not be heard over the loud music shaking the building. The majority of the confetti covered Twilight and Spike. The two just stared in disbelief as food and silverware found its way on too the floor decorating it with various colorful pastries.
As the room shook from the loud music, Mrs. Cake trotted down the stairs and pulled the plug on the enormous speakers. The music stopped and so did Pinkie Pie.
"Pinkie, are you trying to wake the twins?" Mrs Cake stated to Pinkie with a stern look added for effect.
It worked. Pinkie sat on the wood floor without movement, and was in deep thought. She thought for a moment of what just happened and realized that she was in the wrong.
Pinkie apologized for her actions and was back to her normal bubbly self. Pinkie started to clean the premises and found herself swinging from the streamers that hung from the rafters.
Twilight decided that she would help Pinkie clean the room. With her horn shining a light purple, the room was spotless compared to the mess just minutes ago.
Twilight picked the last piece of confetti out of her hair and walked over to Mrs. Cake saying "Do you mind if I borrow Pinkie for a while?"
"No. None in the least. In fact business isn't to busy around this time so she can go for the day."
After the approval Pinkie Pie, Spike, and Twilight headed for the library.

Spike left Pinkie Pie and Twilight alone as they conversed in Twilight's bedroom.
"Hey Pinkie, can I get you anything?" Twilight asked preparing for the night ahead.
"Nope. Thanks though." Pinkie said politely.
Twilight was surprised at how Pinkie was acting just now, and even more surprised at what Pinkie was actually doing. Twilight walked over to Pinkie and asked.
"Um.....Pinkie, what ya got there?" Twilight was now just looking down at Pinkie as the pink mare sat and read.
Twilight moved in closer to see what was in the hoofs of Pinkie and it was in fact the very blue book that Celestia had given to her the day before.
"Hmmm.......Interesting....." Pinkie said aloud to herself and was entertained by the various pictures in the blue covered hard back.
"Pinkie, where exactly did you get that?" Twilight asked with a tone of frustration in her voice.
"Wellllllllll. I dunno." Pinkie said with a sly smile on her face as she played coy to Twilight's questions.
Twilight knew the answer to her question as she notice that the latch on her saddlebag was undone and the bag was lying on the floor next to her bed. Twilight moved the bag out of sight with her magic by placing it in the only closet in her room.
Twilight just shook off what concerns she had over Pinkie looking at the book. "Hey Pinkie. I'm just going to tell you how it is. Okay?" Twilight paused for a moment as she gathered her thoughts before she spoke again.
Pinkie looked up as Twilight began to speak "Um...Well Princess Celestia and I both agree that in the name of science that we would like to examine you. The princess has put me in charge of the task of finding more out about your mental state."
Pinkie seemed kind of excited for the new experience. "Sounds like fun Twi !!!"
"Twilight continued "The task is to find my way into you mind and to uncover anything tat is abnormal compared to other ponies. We are mostly trying to figure out what triggers your Pinkie Sense , and you able to appear almost instantaneously at the most random times and places. Well, that book that you found just so happened to be my guide if I did make it into your head. So Pinkie what do you think?"
Pinkie really had no objections and continued to stay silent while she listened to Twilight.
"There is a lot of danger involved in mind travel, and the princess says that it would not be easy to perform, even experienced unicorns would have trouble handling a spell like this. The main dangers would be: getting lost, mistaking your mind for reality, bad thoughts, and worst of all....not finding the exit."
Pinkie's mouth gaped open as she thought of her friend being trapped forever inside her head. "Does anypony else know about this?" Pinkie asked with a little sadness in her voice.
Twilight answered back "Nope. Just you, me, Spike and Celestia." Twilight tried to change the mood and said to Pinkie "Whats the worst that could happen...just remember happy thoughts."
Pinkie thought long and hard, and finally came up with the conclusion to let Twilight do the experiment. The answer was yes. She did like to make everypony happy, and what would be a better way to make Twilight happy than a experiment.
The two mares went to bed that night in wonder of what was to come.
By the time Pinkie woke up Twilight was already moving about the house. She bustled back and forth from room to room at a quick pace. She was muttering something that Pinkie could not quite make out.
She must be looking for something. I wondering what she's saying. Pinkie thought. Pinkie was still laying on the ground in the position that she fell asleep in. After a few minutes she was up and ready to greet her purple unicorn friend. She stretched as she got up. Her cotton candy hair was indented in the shape of the pillow that she slept on that night. Her hair popped back into its normal swirls as she moved closer to the hallway in which Twilight was passing.
Pinkie Pie moved to the doorway as Twilight passed by. Twilight was not really paying much attention since she thought the the pink earth pony was sleeping.
"Morning Twilight!!!" Pinkie shouted causing Twilight to jump and the blue book and the three other scrolls and her saddlebag fell on the floor around her.
"Oh, hey Pinkie Pie. I didn't see you there." Twilight said with a tired voice. Twilight proceeded to pick up the belongings that fell and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. Pinkie thought to herself that Twilight must have stayed up all night and studied the book. The dark rings and bags under Twilight's eyes also aided her assumptions.
Twilight's horn glowed a light purple as the aurora appeared. She then picked up the materials that fell and sent them across the room to lay on a desk The desk was cluttered as is with books, scrolls and various little belongings. The added objects didn't make the space look any different.
Twilight walked across the hallway and into the room with the desk. Pinkie followed closely behind questioning to herself what Twilight was doing with all the clutter and why she was so busy this morning. Twilight plopped her tired self down on a wooden chair next to the desk and opened the blue hardback.
"Pinkie?" Twilight said softly while reading the book, making sure that her eyes did not stray away from the pages in front of her.
"Ya Twilight?" Pinkie answered back.
"I believe that I am ready to preform this spell and to make my journey into your mind. I am really just making sure that you are prepared for this, no matter what happens."
Twilight paused for a minute and read the next paragraph in the book. She then took a deep breath and said "You are ready, right?"
Pinkie's mind had already been decided late the night before. She was going to help her friend in her conquest of science no matter the cost.
Pinkie answered simply "Yes!" She wasn't as tired as she was when she first got up; in fact she was well rested and was ready for the day ahead.
Twilight turned herself around and got up off the chair moved quickly across the space. She used her magic to grab her saddle bag, the book, a quill, an notebook and some ink. The items were all placed into the bag and were latched tightly. The bag found its way around her and she seemed like she was ready for what Pinkie's mind had in store.
Spike had finally woke from his slumber with a loud yawn. He waddled out of his bed and toward Twilight and Pinkie Pie.
Hey Twilight, morning Pinkie." Spike said from behind the two mares.
The two both turned around in unison and faced the small purple dragon.
Twilight spoke first "Hi Spike, your just in time. Pinkie and I were just about ready to begin our experiment."
Twilight was very eager to perform this experiment and was very glad that Spike would be there to assist her in the preparations. Twilight almost always would do experiments with Spike as her assistant. He was used to her various conquests of science and usually would try to ignore it; especially if a random explosion or strange noises come from the laboratory also known as the basement.
Twilight had signaled for the two to follow her. They traveled closely behind in silence.
The pink earth pony and Spike followed Twilight down the stairs to the main entrance if the laboratory. Twilight carried her belongings by using her magic and gently placed them on a table. She then proceeded to pull a lever which was placed in the center of the room. Pinkie Pie and Spike just watched as Twilight moved quickly around the lab.
A large chair raised from the floor. It was padded slightly with a black cushion on the back and the place where you would sit.
Twilight called over to Pinkie "Hey Pinkie, could ya move and sit in the chair and make yourself comfortable."
Pinkie bounced over to the chair and plopped herself down in it. Pinkie was quite nervous, since this was a completely new experience for her. But it made her feel a little bit better knowing that Twilight hadn't done anything like this before either.
Twilight next moved closer to the chair in which Pinkie was sitting. She told Pinkie " Next we need to take a few tests. Like your temperature, blood pressure, and to monitor your heart throughout the experiment."
Before she started the tests Spike had strapped Pinkie into the chair. Her hooves were clamped on either side of her.
"All set Twilight!" Spike said. Twilight nodded and proceeded with what she was doing.
A monitor next to the chair showed her heart rate and a IV bag was attached to her. "You seem healthy, sooo lets begin." Twilight said.
Pinkie Pie cringed and braced herself as Twilight moved forward. " Um...Twilight this isn't gonna hurt right?" Pinkie asked with a little fear in her voice.
The purple unicorn answered and said "Pinkie, i'm don't believe that his will hurt but the effect of the magic will most likely put you in a comatose state."
Just before Twilight was going to preform the spell, Spike interjected "Wait! You forgot your stuff."
He handed her her belongings that she had prepared earlier that morning. Twilight and Spike then hugged goodbye. She whispered in his ear "Bye Spike, i'll really miss you. I'll be back a soon as I can." she then trotted over to the side of the chair next to Pinkie.
"Pinkie, i'll really miss you too, and I really appreciate what you are letting me do." She gave her a hug even though Pinkie couldn't return the favor due to her hooves being strapped in.
Twilight stepped back and was finally ready to do the spell. "You guys ready?" Twilight questioned.
The other two in the room nodded and Twilight continued. A beam of light shot out across the room and fixed its position directly on Pinkie Pie's forehead. Twilight thought to herself what the book had said.
Focus on what needs to be done. Focus, for you journey has just begun. Focus for what mysteries you may unravel. Prepare yourself for mind travel.
Twilight then disappeared out of sight. "Did it work?" Spike said.
"I sure hope so...." Pinkie Pie retorted; still fearing for her friends safety.
