Cherry Blossom and the Mysterious Book: Part One
Load Full StoryBlue ripples scintillate in the darkness of nothingness, they shimmer briefly then vanish, leaving me back in the shroud of black that makes up the world around me. From the gloom a form begins to emerge, a winged lion in an aura of deep red. The lion holds a banner above his head that I can't quite make out. Everything seems so distant, so lonely. The loneliness is pierced abruptly by one of the most familiar words anypony could know.
"Who's calling my name?" I mutter distantly. The darkness is fading now, revealing the sprawling city of Canterlot, and most prominently Canterlot Spire standing proudly in the distance, the benevolent magnificence of its golden tipped spire replaced by an unnatural dread, only exacerbated by the moon looming unnaturally close to our fragile world below it. Something awful was happening here. The rest of the city seemed distorted and unimportant, but something odd struck me about the familiar city, though it was hard to place exactly what it was that felt so different about the famed streets of the capital.
Before long though, I realised exactly why The sight felt so skewed, it was being seen from above. Standing atop a roof was a filly in a flowing pink outfit that seemed to ripple more intensely than the darkness that came before the vision of Canterlot, and beside her was something I have never seen the like of before. The thing looked like a toy, so small and fluffy, yet anypony would be able to tell that it contained a great power.
Around the filly and her companion rained... Something? As if from nowhere the filly produced a long stave. Then, she jumped, time seemed to slow to a grinding creep as she propelled herself upwards. Towards the spire. Towa.
MEEP!MEEP!MEEP!MEEP!MEEP!MEEP!MEEP!MEEP!
Was it me?
The scream of my alarm dragged me back to the world of reality, leaving behind any traces of the jumping filly in the world of slumber. I shook myself awake, and tried to shake away the feeling that the dream had impressed upon me. Still woozy from my restless sleep I reach over and grab the clock from my bedside table to silence it, and so my morning ritual begins. I clamber out of bed and head straight to the washroom to quickly shower, then dry myself off and brush my chestnut coat, afterall, I can't go out looking like I've just woken up!
I suppose I should introduce myself! My name is Cherry Blossom, I've just moved up from Miss Cheerilee's class in school and into Mr Kindheart's at Ponyville elementary my favourite subjects are easily P.E and Music, I can't stand Maths though! I try to be cheerful as I can be, my friends say that's one of my best points.
Once I'd finished with getting ready the smell of breakfast was wafting upstairs tantalisingly, my dad's usual wheat muffins, my stomach growled loudly as if to tell me that it approved of being fed it's daily treat of fluffy cakeyness, and I obliged it by charging headlong down the stairs. Only to find a certain colt swilling a coffee at the table, waiting to greet me.
"what was all that crashing about from up in your room?" He smirked at me "It sounded like somepony had let a Manticore loose up there!" After delivering the punchline he tittered at his own joke, and levitated his mug back to his lips.
"I wasn't crashing about!" I whined back, knowing that arguing was just going to end up with me upset.
"You were making a lot of noise for somepony who wasn't."
"I was just walking like normal!" He was getting to me, I could feel myself getting stressed already.
"Well, the way you walk, it sounds like some huge monster's running around up there." That was it. I snapped, teeth gritted I stomped a few paces towards him, bringing myself up as high as I could.
"I'm NOT a monster!" for a moment he looks shocked at my outburst, then he giggles to himself and levitates his cup onto my mane, undoing all my work in the bathroom. This big meany is my brother Bright Star, he's in the Eleventh Grade at the high school just next to the elementary.
Just because he's tall and can use magic he makes fun of me!It's so irritating! One day, I'll grow as big as Twilight's library and squish him! I grinned a little at seeing the tiny white unicorn try to flee from my giant stompy foot. My glee at the thought of crushing Bright was interrupted by my father walking in the room with a fresh tray of muffins and juice balanced on his back.
He's an Archaeology professor at Canterlot Institute, he's really, really kind, a great cook too, and sews aswell! I really love him.
My plate is placed in front of me and I start to dig in after thanking him for the meal, the starchy bitterness of the hay snack balanced out by the crisp, sugary Sweet Apple Acres juice. My mother?
She passed away when I was just a foal. Don't worry though, I don't get too lonely, afterall, I have my dad, and that meany Bright. Glancing over at the picture of the chestnut unicorn on the shelf reminds me that she'll be there for me, even though she's not here anymore.
"Thanks for the food." Bright declares whilst standing up and levitating a coat on.
"What? You're off already?" Replies my father, looking baffled at his son leaving over half an hour early.
"Yup, I've got soccer practice with Snow before classes." My eyes became disks and I crammed my remaining food into my mouth before hurriedly stamping into my skates.
"You're going too?"
"Yeah, I need to... ummm." I couldn't say that I was rushing to see him. "I have to make sure the class is clear before everypony else gets there!" and with that I burst out the door behind my brother, almost slipping on the stairs in my rush.
