The Tip of Canterlot Mountain

A man dressed in a black robe sat cross legged and barefoot in the deep layer of snow that covered the higher reaches of the mountain. He had his eyes closed in deep concentration and a single sound came from his mouth. "Ooooooooohhhhhhmmmmm....Ooooooooohhhhhmmm...." Slowly three massive orbs of packed snow rose up and hovered three feet off of the ground. "Oooooooooooohhhhhmmmm......Oooooooooohhhhhhmmmmm....Ooooohhhhhmmmm." The giant snow balls slowly circled around the meditating human before slowly lowering themselves to the ground. Having completed his task he opened his steel grey eyes and watched the sun move across the sky. "He who knows Ohm, knows all.", he said before the vision faded.

Honor Guard slowly opened his eyes to see none other than Celestia standing over him with a worried expression on her face. "Celestia? W-what happened?" The pony matriarch sighed with relief and smiled. "That is something I would like to know as well. Your friend Indentured sought me out saying that you had collapsed and were not responding. We had you immediately brought to the Hospital Wing." True enough, the room the two were in was the usual hospital room of sterile white and smelling of cleaner. "Tell me Honor, what is the last thing you remember?" Honor Guard concentrated on trying to remember what had transpired after touching the crystal and came up with two things. "I remember...Oooohhhhhmmm...."

Celestia's eyes widened in shock at his answer. 'He learned the sound of life; That shouldn't be possible unless...' Before Celestia could continue questioning her charge, the door opened and a tan earth pony with a brown and tail, and an hourglass cutie mark walked in. "Weeeell, look who's awake. It only took you five days but better late than never I suppose." The doctor extended a hoof which was taken in hand and shaken. "I'm the doctor, pleasure to meet you." Honor couldn't help the oldest question in all of existence. "Doctor who?" The earth pony let out a chuckle and shook his head. "Just The Doctor,  or Hooves if you prefer."

He picked a clip board off the end of the bed and flipped through before giving a satisfied nod. "Well, you seem to be in perfect health and I should say you can leave any time you like. Though if you wait we will have your clothing brought to you so you don't have to walk around nude." Honor gave him a puzzled look and asked. "Why would I care about being without clothing?" Hooves opened his mouth to answer but stopped at a look from the princess. "Umm, well it is supposed to cool down this week, wouldn't wanna catch a cold now would you? Anyways, I shall return with  your clothing shortly."  Hooves bowed to Celestia and left, returning shortly with a bag of clothing in his teeth.

Honor guard gratefully took it and stood up, exposing himself to all since their wasn't a Johnny in his size or shape. He put his clothing on, opting to wrap his jacket around his waist. He turned to a red faced Celestia and smiled. "I'm ready to go.", he stated. Celestia shook her head and led the way out of and towards the throne room. "Honor Guard? I know we haven't known each other very long, but could you do me a favor?" Honor looked at his companion and nodded. "What do you need me to do?", he asked. "I am sending my apprentice to a small town to make sure the preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration are complete. Could you join her in her task? I feel she may need you to complete it."

Honor thought it over for a second before nodding. "Of course, I would be happy to help you!" They stopped at the entrance to the throne room where a Lavender unicorn with a dark purple and pink striped mane and tail stood; a little purple and green dragon rested on her back, gently humming to himself. "Twilight Sparkle, I hope you are packed for the trip?" Twilight spun around to greet her teacher but froze when her eyes laid upon Honor. Her jaw dropped and she had to look up just to see his face. "Oh, how rude of me. Twilight Sparkle, meet Honor Guard. He will be accompanying you on your trip to aid you in your task." Twilight snapped out of her stupor  and gave a nervous smile. "U-uumm, Hi?"

Honor returned her smile with one of his own as well as a wave. "It is nice to meet you Twilight.", he said happily. "It's n-nice to meet you too." A small and slightly hurt male voice piped up from her back. "Hey, what am I? Crushed topaz?" Honor looked at the baby dragon whom had spoken. "Hello,I am Honor Guard. What is your name?" The baby dragon puffed up a bit. "I'm Spike, Twilight's number one assistant and future hero."  The human let out a laugh and nodded in agreement. "I think you would make a great hero, can I be a hero too?"

The baby dragon looked him up and down with scrutiny before nodding. "I think so, you look big enough. How strong are you?" The human pondered the question and shrugged. "I don't know." "Well that's okay, we can find out later." The two were interrupted by Celestia clearing her throat, though she wore a small smile as well. "Right then Honor,  Spike, may I speak to Twilight for a moment please?" The two nodded and spike led Honor to where the chariot to Ponyville awaited them.

As the two vanished from sight, Princess Celestia let out a sigh and turned serious. "Twilight I have another task for you, this one is of vital importance." The young mare  stood at attention, waiting dutifully for her teacher to continue. "Honor Guard is very important, more so than you could ever know. At the moment though he is like a newborn foal, he knows nothing about this world, nor the laws that govern both it and our universe. Which is what we want." Confusion washed over Twilight's face at what her mentor said. "What do you mean Princess?", she asked.

"I can not divulge to you why he must not know at the moment. I will tell you soon I promise, but now is not the right time."  Twilight nodded and didn't pry. "Twilight, I need you to keep an eye on him for me even after the celebration. I need you to train him in the basics of magic manipulation and control as well as making sure he stays out of trouble." Twilight bowed to her teacher. "I will do my utmost best princess, you have my word."

Celestia gave her student a proud smile and nodded. "I know you will, I have faith in you." The two embraced for a brief moment before separating and trotting off to join Spike and Honor who were waiting on the chariot already. "Well, I bid you three farewell and safe travels. Before I forget though, I have gift for you Honor." Celestia's horn glowed and summoned a simple grey rucksack that landed in Honor's lap. "Inside I packed a few supplies for you in case you need them. Be safe, and be on your best behavior." After thanking Celestia and giving their last goodbyes the trio was soon airborne and fading into the distance.

The trip to Ponyville turned out not to be as dull as Twilight thought it would be, Honor Guard had seen to that. Halfway into the trip he had wanted to fly beside the pegasi and tried climbing out of the chariot to do just that. Luckily Twilight had been able to talk him out of it, saying that if he did he would be to tired to help out. He accepted the answer and sat back down next to her. With the disaster averted it was Honor's child like wonder for everything he saw that both puzzled and amused Twilight, making the trip fly by. (Yeah it's a pun. Big whoop want to fight about it?)

All to quickly for Twilight the chariot touched down on the outskirts of Ponyville, coming to a gentle stop just outside the town. The three climbed out of the chariot and thanked the pegasi who brought them before heading into town. Ponies of all color and species milled about the town going about their day to day lives and over all just enjoying life. However that all came to a screeching halt when the six six muscular, bipedal behemoth strolled into town. What followed next would have had discord laughing up alarm clocks.

The first pony to spot him let out a shriek and tried to turn and run. She accidentally bumped into a pony pushing a cart full of pies, possibly for the upcoming celebration, resulting in the stallion kicking his wagon in surprise and sending it airborne. Various types of pies rained down like sugary meteors, splattering anypony unlucky enough to move. One such  mare was thrown back into a temporary pillar that was being used to hold a banner advertising the celebration. The pillar smacked into it's twin, sending it falling on top of an egg stand. Needless to say that everypony was now covered in more than just pie. To top it all off though, one pony blinded by egg and pie filling knocked over a box of magical fire works.The impact activated the magic, firing the shells into a shipment of flour where they exploded, sending a mushroom cloud of flour into the air and covering everything in white powder.

Twilight and Spike stood where they had stopped with jaws resting on the ground. "Umm, what just happened?", Honor asked, shaking twilight from her stupor. "I don't know. But we should probably get out of here before we get in trouble.", she said while backing away from the center of town with spike in a telekinetic field of magic. He may not have known what it meant, but the word trouble did not sound nice so he quickly chased after the unicorn mare. The trio came to a halt, oddly enough, in front of a large tree/house with a sign in front reading: Ponyville Library.

"Hey look, that tree has a house in it.", the foal like human said. Twilight looked up to see that, sure enough, they were at the library she was to be staying at. "Well...let's go inside then." Twilight led the way inside with Honor right behind her. "Woooow, this place is so cool!!" Honor made  his way around the room, making sure to touch everything. "Well I'm glad you like it. I have to go check on the preparations for the celebration. Stay here and wait till I get back.

"But the princess said I'm supposed to help you." "You will be, byyyyy...making sure nopony comes inside until I'm ready to start working." Honor accepted her answer easily and sat down to wait for Twilight to return. "NowI should be back soon, be good and don't let anypony in.", twilight called out as she left the library.

Twilight tried her hardest to block out the sounds of the party that was going on downstairs. She couldn't understand why the princess had basically ordered her to make friends when Nightmare Moon could return at any moment to plunge the world in darkness. At least Honor had been pleasant enough to be around. Celestia hadn't been joking when she said he was like a foal though; the way he reacted to everything around him reflected as such. It was mostly in the form of awed looks or wanting to touch and smell everything around him. She would admit that it  was a tedious task to prevent him from being injured while at the same time not telling him of the laws of physics, but at the same time it was nice. Why though, she couldn't say.

Her door opened up, letting the cacophony of the party downstairs invade her room. She looked up to see Spike wearing a lampshade on his head and a grin on his face. "Hey twilight, come join the party.", he said happily. "Spike I don't have time for that. Nightmare Moon is supposed to return today and I have to think of a way to stop her!", she said grumpily. "Okay geeze, you need to lighten up Twi, besides Princess Celestia said you were supposed to make friends..." Twilight snorted in irritation and rolled over, much to Spike's dismay. He let out a sigh before closing the door and going to rejoin the party.

Ponyville Town Hall

Everypony in Ponyville talked amongst each other excitedly  as the time for Celestia to raise the sun grew closer. Twilight and Spike were among those in the front row as well as some of the more interesting ponies she had met earlier. The earth pony mare known as Applejack was talking with an alabaster unicorn with a violet, curled mane and tail. Meanwhile Honor Guard, who had been introduced at the party and had been found to not be a "Super duper scary monster pants", as the insane pony Pinkie Pie had put it, was currently talking and giggling with said pony about who knows what.  'Note to self, Honor is still developing so it would best to keep him away from the pink mare.

"Fillies and Gentlecolts", started the silver maned Mayor Mare, "It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you our beloved leader who raises the sun and moon for us each  day and night. The timid, canary yellow mare Fluttershy if Twilight remembered correctly, gently waved her conductors baton which signaled her birds to start singing. "Princess Celestia!" The curtains were pulled away to reveal empty space. Gasps and whispers broke out among the crowd followed shortly by a deep female laughter.

A blue mist seeped in from everywhere and turned into none other than Nightmare Moon. The pitch black alicorn let out another round of evil laughter. "My dear subjects, it has been to long.", she said in a voice filled with darkness, causing all but Honor and Pinkie Pie to flinch or cower. "What is the matter? Am I not royal enough for you? Does my crown mean nothing anymore?!" The ponies before her only cowered even further from the twisted Night Princess.  "Did none of you see the signs of my return? Did not a one of you notice my eventual return to power?" "I did."

The crowd parted, leaving Twilight on the spot. "Oh, it seems there is one here that does. Tell me my little pony, do you know why I have returned?" Twilight tried her hardest to answer but her words vanished before they make it out. Nightmare Moon let losse more evil laughter. "Remember this day my little ponies, for it shall be your last! The night shall rule FOREVER! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!" With that she exploded into a cloud of mist and left as quickly as she came. With all attention focused on where Nightmare Moon had been, nopony noticed the only human sneak away and take off after the blue swirling mist.
