Catching an Angel
It was a bright sunny day in Ponyville. Birds are chirping, ponies continuing their daily lives and it isn't even too hot for a summer day. Rainbow Dash was just sleeping at a branch on one of the trees in Sweet Apple Acres. Even for an athletic pegasus, Rainbow Dash is still quite a sleepy head.
Rainbow Dash snored like a monster inside of the cave, echoing through the caverns. It is a sign that says no matter what noise she could hear, she could never be awaken. Maybe except a voice of an orange pegasus running towards her while screaming her name. "Rainbow Dash!!!" the orange pegasus yelled as she ran towards the tree where Rainbow Dash is sleeping.
"Huh, what?" Rainbow Dash slowly raised her head up, searching for the source of the noise. She shook her head sheepishly, slowly lowering her head again.
"Rainbow Dash!!!" Rainbow Dash quickly raised her head again, looking below her where the voice came from. She saw a familiar orange pegasus named Scootaloo below her. "Hey Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo greeted with a sheepish smile.
"Oh hey Squirt, what brings you here?" Rainbow Dash asked as she tilted her head a bit.
"You told me that you were gonna teach how to fly, and I'm really excited about it." Scootaloo hopped excitedly while also flapping her cute little filly pegasus wings.
"Oh uh, can we do it some other times cause I'm really sleepy." Rainbow Dash stretched her fore legs, accompanied by a long yawn.
"Please Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo tried to give her best sad face to Rainbow Dash. She tried to widen her eyes, a big frown on her face and then laying her head onto her shoulder. Rainbow Dash sighed as she scratched the back of her head.
"Okay fine... If you're really that excited." Rainbow Dash smirked.
"Thank you Rainbow Dash!!!" Scootaloo yelled as she smiled, thinking that finally, after a long time of being a flightless pegasus, it is finally gonna change as another pegasus teaches her how to fly. Specially when that pegasus is Rainbow Dash.
"Don't sweat it kid." Rainbow Dash flew down, next to Scootaloo. "Besides, I told you that I'm gonna be like your big sister." Rainbow Dash wrapped her wing around Scootaloo. "And as your big sister, I wanted to teach you how to fly." Rainbow Dash hugged Scootaloo.
"Thanks Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo hugged back to Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash gave her a warm smile.
Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo went to the park, where Rainbow Dash could teach Scootaloo how to fly. "Okay kid, I want you to flap your wings as hard as you could." Rainbow Dash instructed while she flaps her wings. Scootaloo nodded and then tried to flap her wings as hard as she could. Winds flowed under Scootaloo's wings as she flaps them as hard as she could. After a few seconds, Scootaloo gave up.
"I don't think this is gonna work Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo lowered her head.
"Come on kid, you told me that you wanted to fly." Rainbow Dash placed her hoof under Scootaloo's chin, and then she raised Scootaloo's head. "If you wanted to fly, you should try your best." Rainbow Dash patted Scootaloo's head. Scootaloo nodded and then parted her legs, positioning herself as she tries to flap her wings as hard as she could. Scootaloo's wings finally lifted herself off the ground for a few inch. "Come on, you could do it." Rainbow Dash chanted.
"I'm trying..." Scootaloo murmured. Scootaloo's wings slowly gave up, bringing her back to the ground. "Flying is hard." Scootaloo exaggerated.
"Don't think about that kid, I fly all the time." Rainbow Dash flapped her wings, bringing her to the air. "See? It is easy." Rainbow Dash wrapped her fore legs around Scootaloo's waist, bringing her to the air. "Watch how fun it is to fly." Rainbow Dash flew so fast, trails of her rainbow colored tail were left behind. Rainbow Dash looked down to Scootaloo. Scootaloo's eyes were closed, feeling the winds beyond her mane. Scootaloo's face was just showing that she is happy, but inside her, she is really happy as her number one idol took her under her wings, showing her the fun in flying. Rainbow Dash slowly descended, bringing down Scootaloo on the ground. "What did I tell ya kid? Flying is fun."
"Don't worry Rainbow Dash, I won't give up." Scootaloo showed her game face to Rainbow Dash.
"That's the spirit." Rainbow Dash patted Scootaloo's head. Rainbow Dash turned her back to Scootaloo. Rainbow Dash peeked over shoulder. "I want you to follow my lead." Scootaloo nodded. "Good." Rainbow Dash smirked. Rainbow Dash turned her head in front of her again, squatting a bit as she prepares to gallop. Rainbow Dash spread her wings. "Now, kid." Rainbow Dash galloped. She looked to her back, and saw Scootaloo following her. "Just keep following me."
"Sure thing, Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo replied. Rainbow Dash started flapping her wings, hovering her off the ground. Scootaloo followed Rainbow Dash, flapping her wings. Scootaloo hovered a bit from the ground. "I'm doing it Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo tried to flap her wings even harder, wanting to do more than just hovering. In just a few moments, Scootaloo's wings slowly starts to worn out. Rainbow Dash looked back to Scootaloo.
"Take it easy kid, we're still practicing on hovering." Scootaloo ignored her, still flapping her wings as hard as she could. In just a few seconds, Scootaloo's wings were worn out. Her wings brought her down to the ground in no time, causing her to trip and then tumble. Rainbow Dash stopped, running back to Scootaloo to help her. "Are you okay kid?" Rainbow Dash offered her hoof to Scootaloo. Scootaloo held onto Rainbow Dash's hoof, slowly lifting herself up while grunting a bit.
"Sorry Rainbow Dash. I just wanted to do something more than just hovering." Scootaloo looked away from Rainbow Dash.
"I understand kid. There is a time when I was like you." Rainbow Dash moved Scootaloo's head towards her. "When I was still a filly, I wanted to fly as fast as I could. Feeling the wind under my wing. But flying as fast as you could isn't such a good idea."
"What happened?" Scootaloo raised her eyebrow.
"My flying was so fast that I couldn't even control myself. So I crashed into one of the buildings in Flight School." Rainbow Dash gave Scootaloo a sheepish smile.
"I understand Rainbow Dash, but it is just, I've been waiting for a long time to fly and I've finally managed to learn how to hover. I was just thinking if I could now fly, since I know how to hover." Scootaloo scratched her head.
"Well, if you really wanted to know if you could fly." Rainbow Dash examined her surroundings above her head. "I guess we could try." Rainbow Dash grabbed Scootaloo. Scootaloo was startled a bit, but she didn't mind. Rainbow Dash placed Scootaloo on one of the clouds, high above from the ground. Rainbow Dash stood beside Scootaloo. "I want you to fly up before you could hit the ground." Rainbow Dash instructed.
"What if I don't manage to fly before I hit the ground?" Scootaloo shook nervously.
"Don't worry, I'll be there beside you." Rainbow Dash moved closer to Scootaloo. "Is it okay with you?" Scootaloo nodded, but still unsure of her answer. "Great, now let's do this." Rainbow Dash jumped off the cloud with Scootaloo, one hundred meters away from the ground. Scootaloo screamed in fear as she falls off, down towards the ground. "Scootaloo listen to me!!!" Rainbow Dash yelled, since it is really hard for Scootaloo to hear her. Scootaloo couldn't listen to Rainbow Dash, since she focused on what could happen to her. Rainbow Dash placed her fore hooves onto Scootaloo's shoulder. "Scootaloo!!!"
"Rainbow Dash, I don't think I could handle this!!!" tears were flowing off of Scootaloo's eyes. Rainbow Dash knew that in this case, Scootaloo might faint. So she quickly hugged Scootaloo bringing her to the ground slowly. Scootaloo finally stopped screaming as she saw her number one idol, hugging her tightly, caring for her.
"Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo murmured. Rainbow Dash gazed at Scootaloo.
"Sorry if I let you try that kind of thing in the first place, I don't know what I was thinking." Rainbow Dash gave Scootaloo a sheepish smile. Rainbow Dash landed Scootaloo softly on the ground as they reach it. "I don't think it will be easy for you to learn how to fly." Rainbow Dash looked away from Scootaloo. "Sorry because I couldn't teach you how to fly." Scootaloo suddenly hugged Rainbow Dash.
"That's okay Rainbow Dash." Rainbow Dash hugged back.
"Well I promised. My element being loyalty doesn't approve that."
"I don't need to learn how to fly, as long as you are here with me."
"Would you do anything just for me?" Rainbow Dash released from the hug.
"Off course I would." Scootaloo answered proudly.
"How about we use that as a motivation for you." Scootaloo shifted her head in confusion.
"What do you mean?"
"Well since you said that you will do anything just for me, what if I would fall of the sky and you are the only one who could catch me?"
"Wait, don't tell me-." Scootaloo trailed off as soon as she saw Rainbow Dash grinned. "I don't want you to do that just for me." Scootaloo hugged Rainbow Dash tightly. "What if I fail?" Scootaloo looked up to Rainbow Dash.
"Why would I do this kind of risky things just for you if I don't trust you?" Rainbow Dash patted Scootaloo.
"I know that you believe in me, but this... This is just too risky for you." Rainbow Dash kissed Scootaloo on the forehead.
"You said that you were my sister, and I believe in my sister." Scootaloo felt both happy and sad emotions. Being happy because her number one idol believes in her. Sad because her number one idol's life depends on her. "Come on now, I'm gonna get some distance from you, and I want you to fly to me and then catch me." Rainbow Dash released from the hug, and then flew off, away from Scootaloo. "twenty meters should be enough." Rainbow Dash flew to the sky. Twenty meters away from Scootaloo, twenty meters away from the ground.
"Are you sure about this Rainbow Dash!?" Rainbow Dash nodded. "Well I'm not." Scootaloo thought to herself. Rainbow Dash stopped flapping her wings, bringing herself down to the ground. She closed her eyes, hoping that Scootaloo would use this situation for her to fly. Scootaloo galloped towards the spot where she knew Rainbow Dash would crash. Scootaloo flapped her wings, hoping that it would bring her into midair, but her wings are not in rhythm, which didn't help at all. "Rainbow Dash!!!" Rainbow Dash suddenly opened her eyes. She knew that she was close to the ground.
"Scootaloo..." she murmured. Time slowed down as Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash was just a meter or two away from each other. So does the ground with Rainbow Dash. Scootaloo saw a tear on Rainbow Dash's eyes. As Scootaloo blinked, a loud thud went inside of her ear. Scootaloo saw Rainbow Dash, laying on her back with closed eyes.
"Rainbow Dash?" Scootaloo whispered. Rainbow Dash didn't responded. Scootaloo fell onto her knees, resting her head onto Rainbow Dash's chest. "Rainbow Dash?" she asked one more, but still no response. She cried softly on Rainbow Dash's chest. "I knew that this was a bad idea." she said to herself. She heard Rainbow Dash cough. "Rainbow Dash?" she slowly raised her head up and saw Rainbow Dash, looking at her.
"You almost made it kid." small amount of bloods were dripping off of Rainbow Dash's mouth, but still she managed to smile at Scootaloo. Scootaloo hesitated to hug Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash grunted a bit in pain. "Hey easy kid, my back hurts a bit." Scootaloo moved away from Rainbow Dash a bit. Tears were dropping down to Scootaloo's cheeks from her eyes.
"Are you gonna be okay Rainbow Dash?" Rainbow Dash smiled at Scootaloo. Knowing that she, Rainbow Dash faced more risky situations than just falling off from a twenty meter drop, she replied.
"Don't worry, it was just a twenty meter drop. I know I'll be fine." Rainbow Dash wiped off Scootaloo's tears off of her face. "Besides, it is time to know if you knew how to fly since you're gonna be carrying me down to the hospital." Rainbow Dash said in a funny way. Scootaloo sniffed and then nodded.
"Don't worry Rainbow Dash, because this time I won't fail you." Rainbow Dash smirked as Scootaloo tried to flap her wings. "Come on wings, don't fail me now." Scootaloo tought to herself. Her wings slowly lifted herself up, away from the ground. This time she wasn't just hovering, she was now flying. "I'm doing it Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo said proudly.
"I knew you had it in kid." Rainbow Dash chuckled. Scootaloo tried to drag Rainbow Dash on her hoof, but Rainbow Dash grunted. "Why don't you just get me some help?" Scootaloo nodded. Scootaloo flew up high. She searched for the nearest pony away from Rainbow Dash. Her hopes were filled as she saw a familiar red stallion.
"Big Mac." she said to herself as she dives down towards Big Mac. Meanwhile, Big Mac was carrying an empty carriage, since he just finished unloading some apples at Sugar Cube Corners. Big Mac's mouth parted as he saw an orange pegasus who was supposed to be flightless, but now flying in front of him. "Big Mac, I need your help." Scootaloo hesitated. Big Mac simply nodded, since not much words comes out of his mouth, or maybe he is just new on seeing the flightless orange pegasus, now flying.
After Big Mac and Scootaloo managed to bring Rainbow Dash to the hospital. A doctor told Rainbow Dash that she needs to get confined inside of the hospital for her broken wings to recover. "Looks like I'm going to have to wait inside of the hospital again, and I know it is going to be boring." Rainbow Dash said to herself as she rolled her eyes. The door of Rainbow Dash's room suddenly opened. In front of her was Scootaloo.
"Don't worry big sis, I'm staying right beside you." Scootaloo said with a big smile on her face. Scootaloo flew next to Rainbow Dash who was laying at the hospital bed.
"Well at least you're here." Rainbow Dash gave Scootaloo a sheepish smile. "How does it feel to be flying out in the open?" Rainbow Dash wrapped her front leg around Scootaloo.
"It feels great and check this out." Scootaloo showed her flank to Rainbow Dash. "I got my cutiemark." on Scootaloo's flank was a rainbow colored feather as a cutiemark.
"You finally got your cutiemark." Rainbow Dash patted Scootaloo.
"And it is all because of you big sis." Scootaloo hugged Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash grunted a bit.
"I told you to take it easy on me, my back still kind of hurts." Rainbow Dash rubbed her back. "But I still can manage to resist the pain." Rainbow Dash then hugged Scootaloo. "I love you little sis." Rainbow Dash whispered.
"I love you too big sis." Scootaloo smiled as she knew that her dreams finally came true. Rainbow Dash released from the hug.
"How about we have a race after I recover." Scootaloo looked up to Rainbow Dash.
"It is a deal." Scootaloo reached out her hoof, which Rainbow Dash bumped with her hoof.
