Chapter 2: Picking Them Up

The mornings were the worst. I'm always tired, groggy, and a bit cranky. At least getting some exercise and stretching out the old boys would clear my mind and put me in a better mood. It didn't seem like it would work this morning though. At the back of my head was that damn dream haunting me. There was this weird feeling as well. My breathing was becoming irregular, and heavy. Everything was getting blurry I needed to get to the ground fast. Walking the rest of the way wasn't so bad of an idea I was at least close to Sugarcube Corner.

The location couldn't have been worse though. It was Carousel Boutique, and knowing Rarity at this time would be getting ready to open her shop, and I know she'd be alarmed if she saw me walking instead of flying. That Fashionista as she called herself would stop me and find out why i wasn't in the skies, and i had no time to talk about my life story. The anticipation of wanting to know if Pinkie was okay was killing me, so i would have to be careful and sneaky to get past her.

I was able to walk past her shop without a hitch and to not run into that problem again i decided on taking the alleyways. There all on the walls were Missing Ponies posters of all ages. Some young and some old a couple of teens, and even some adults.

Usually i wouldn't think much of it. There are always Missing Ponies posters around town. It was mostly runaway teens who are rebelling against their parents, but this was different. To many ponies were missing and they all seemed to disappear at the same time. Quarter past sundown. To much of a coincidence if you ask me.

I snapped back to reality remembering that I had to get to Sugarcube Corner. I had already wasted so much time getting past Rarities and now the posters. While i do hope they get found i need to head out of here.

As I left the alleyway I could see Sugarcube Corner off in the distant. Finally I could see for myself that there was nothing to worry about. Walking past Lyra and Bon-Bon i couldn't help but listen to their conversation.

"Hey Bon-Bon did you hear the young school colt named Featherweight went missing last night at the Mid-Summer Carnival. Everypony seems..." The earth pony had cut her off feeling like she had to get something off her chest.

"He's missing, but that's impossible me and Rainbow Dash had just helped him overcome his fear of clowns so he could join the rest of his classmates at the carnival and enjoy it."

At that moment Bon-Bon had turned my way and noticed me. She started calling out asking to help confirm her story. I turned my way towards them and started trotting. I didn't want to seem like I was being nosey so i pretended on having no clue what they were talking about. Both of them explained the situation with every detail.

Shock did kick in because I had indeed helped that little colt with his fear problem yesterday and now he was gone. I was worried but had no clue what had happened to him.

"Sorry girls I need to be somewhere, but we should talk about this later see ya." With that i was off to Sugarcube Corner.

The giant cake shaped shop was finally in front of me. The delicious scent of every pastry inside was intoxicating. Always the best at Sugarcube Corner.

"DASHIE what are you doing here so early. Hm maybe you're hungry, or bored and wanted to see a friend. Wait why aren't you flying. Did you hurt your wings. Do you need to see a doctor."

In a blink of an eye the pink mare disappeared and reappeared in a doctors costume and an operating table. Which she managed to poof under me and get me to sit on. "What seems to be the problem miss?"

"Pinkie..." she cut me off and said.

"Pinkie is it. Hey wait that's my name." She seemed so fixated on finding out my diagnosis. I had to tell her soon or i was going to end up under an x-ray machine, or worse.

"Pinkie there's nothing wrong with me," i explained. "I just came by to see if you were okay."

A confused look came across the pink mare. "If I was okay?" Pinkie asked trying to put the pieces of an imaginary puzzle. "Of course i'm okay silly why wouldn't I be. I've been here at the bakery all day working and putting smiles on everypony that I have seen today. Nothing could be better."

"Oh it's nothing I was just worried and all, but i'm okay now" Rainbow said with a sign or relief. Her worst fears were put to rest. I guess I was just letting some silly dream get to me. How embarrassing me the coolest most awesomest pony in all of equestria worried by some dream.

"Dashie hello are you in there wakey wakey weat fries and lemon pastries."

While I was getting my thoughts back in order I hadn't noticed the little pink mare creeped up closer and closer to me. She was practically eye to eye with me. Blushing a tad I backed up and said "Oh um yeah i'm here just spacing out. Got a bit on my mind."

"If you'd like we could talk about it after I get out of work later on today. There's this awesomerific hideout I found last week near Sweet Apple Acres. It's got the biggest apple tree i've ever seen. Way bigger than every other tree in the orchard. How does a tree get that big? Wait you've never seen it so you wouldn't know what it looks like, but if you had seen it you would be like whoa and wow, and be totally amazed by the..."

"PINKIE," if I hadn't stopped her then she would've gone on until her shift was over, and it had just started. "I'd like to take you up on that offer. I'm not doing anything of real importance anyway. I'll see you then I got to split. I'll probably head to Twilight's to read up on some new Daring Do comic books that just came in, so you know where to find me."

"Okay see you later Dashie. Oh wait hold on here i'll be right back" with that she sped her way from my view and in about 10 seconds flat she was right in front of me with a small purple box that read. Twilight's Specialty. "Can you take this to Twi she's all caught up on hitting the books which i've told her before that it's better to just read them. I'll see you later Dashie." With that she was off to the counter smiling and raring to work, and a good thing to since the place had gotten packed with a bunch of ponies wanting some baked goods.

I wonder if Pinkie really can help me with what's on my mind. Hm I guess i'll have to wait till wait and see, but right now I need to be getting to Twilight's maybe she can help me a bit before I talk to her.
