The smell of fresh strawberry shortcakes from the bakery filled the nose of everypony. Pinkie Pie ran out the door with a trayful of fresh cakes, still steaming with flavour. The multi-coloured birds were chirping, flying in and out of the trees, repeating the same beautiful song ever and ever again. The bright sun was shining giving life to all the tall flowers around, The air was clear, and there was no wind. Everypony was out today to enjoy the fresh start of summer, apart from just one pony. The blue pony flicked her white and grey hair out of her face, revealing her tearful eyes. She dragged herself along the town with her hair down, staying at the edge of the road, trying not to draw any attention. The lonely pony slumbered down the high-street; her snowflake cutie mark seemed to sag like her mouth. Everypony stared, but didn’t dare ruin her solitude.
“What’s with her, Bonbon? I’ve seen her around an’ all, but she doesn’t seem to do anything? Do you know her?” Bonbon quickly stopped staring at the pony and perked up on her seat. The two of them were basking in the sun on the one bench they ever sat on. Bonbon seemed to know everypony in this town, so she was the one to ask.
“Oh, her? She’s the ‘quiet pony’ who lives on the outside of town. She doesn’t like anypony, even those who try to help her. I don’t know what's wrong with her, but she treats everypony like dirt!” Lyra was sure she couldn't be that bad, so she stood up and walked over to the pony, now sitting next to the coffee shop on the corner, ignoring the wonderful smell floating out the window. Lyra walked up to the pony and tried to start a conversation, but she wasn’t talking, she turned and attacked the cyan mare. Lyra jumped back, avoiding the mares strong kick by a hairs length.
“Hey! What do you think you’re doing?!” Lyra shouted, shocked at her poor manners. The ponies hair parted to reveal a staring, bloodshot eye. There was nothing in her eyes except pain. She turned back and run for the forest, not looking back at the town.
Heart Felt was no normal pony, she was a cursed. Her heart was made of pure snow; still soft and beautiful, but could be crushed to ice, and melted by warmth. Kindness and love from other ponies could kill her, so she had to live alone - and cry herself to sleep - every day of her life. She dreamed of a day when she could feel, but was woken by the pains in her ice cold chest. Living a life like hers was painful, but she didn't have the courage to end it. Every day was the same thing in her eyes, it was even becoming natural more than a burden.
Every day was the same thing. The only thing she could love was the grasshopper that took a shortcut through her house every now and again. She didn't know it was the same one, nor if it actually had feelings, but the spring it had in its step was enough to stop her feeling upset. He hopped onto her hoof, claiming it as his own by walking around for a few seconds, then sleeping. Heart looked at the creature, wondering if she could ever be as free as the green insect, now not moving at all. You are right little one, it's time to sleep; she thought to herself. Without moving the grasshopper too much, she curled up into a ball and slowly drifted off. This was the first night - in the time she could remember - she hadn't cried herself to sleep. Sleep was one of Hearts weaknesses. It wasn’t the cold house, or the creaking of the bed, but the fact that it made her think too much. She would never feel the loving care of a stallion, she would forever be an outcast from society, to live a lonely life, all she felt was bitterness and hatred to other ponies.
“I guess this is me...” The lonely mare sighed as she drifted into the realm of sleep...
Although she fell asleep peacefully enough, this didn't change the things in her dreams. She was surrounded by walls of shadows, all of the same figure. It was none other than Discord, the one who brung this curse upon her. She despised him, she asked him for help in her time of need, but she lost her heart, let alone getting nothing in return. She continued her school years after this is pain, getting bullied just as she did before, which made her heart colder, and colder, and colder. She felt like she was just as bad as discord, being cruel to everybody she ever met, taking their happiness away from them, but not gaining it...
Oh, who do we have here, is it the one and only? Yes! It’s you HeartFelt! How’s life? Painful enough for you? I like the whole ‘talk to no one’ act, its really selfish if you ask me!
She tried to respond, but she could tell if it was the pain or the nightmare that stopped her talking. She ran from discord, who just appeared closer every step she took.
She thought to herself, cruelty, that was it, she reflected the personality of discord, he was the one who had made her suffer like this for her whole life, if she ever met that selfish son of a mare, she swore she would tell him a lesson!
It feels good being an outcast, well, to me of course. What’s wrong? Are you looking from friends? Look how many friends I have, I could count them on one hand.
The figure of discord then drew up his hand to show he’d lost him fingers, representing he had none. But he was happy on his own, why could Heart feel the same?
