The Stranger From The Vortex

In the two days following, Twilight Sparkle and her friends would watch as Ponyville completely forgot the events that unfolded the day of the Vortex Ooze’s attack. However, one of the strangest things had occurred soon after its demise at the Maestro’s regeneration. Nobody remembered what happened. The doctors and nurses at the hospital completely forgot of a Maestro. The residents that were under its control and converted into Oozed Ponies could not recall anything that night, but only waking up with headaches. She wondered how only she and Spike remembered the event, while her friends didn't. In private, The Doctor theorized that it had to do with the fact that the Maestro’s complex powers and possible unicorn magic made it possible to erase any traces of the Ooze’s chaos, as well as his own presence wherever he was. However, the personal memories he made with Twilight, himself, and Spike were so profound that he kept their memories of him.

With that out of the way, The Doctor and Twilight went to her laboratory, and turned their attention to one more thing … what were they to do with this impossible pony from Gallifrey?

“Let me get this straight, you’re saying he is and isn't a Time Lord?” Spike asked while Twilight was looking over an experiment she was working on.

“I’ll tell you this one more time. The data I recovered from his fiasco in my TARDIS, as well as the studies I conducted in his coma show traces of his DNA resembling mine. I even had the TARDIS trace his genetic origins and it lead back to my reality, my universe, my Gallifrey.” The Doctor explained with some frustration before sitting down.

“So how is he impossible?” Spike asked and then took a sip of hot coco.

“His genes originated back to Gallifrey, but the TARDIS has no historical records of his existence before or after the Time War. So now I’m left asking myself, is he a Time Lord? If he is than how did he survive the Time War and get out of its Time Lock? Why is he here, now and not before? I’m left with too many questions that can lead me to nowhere and being nowhere is bad!” The Doctor said while looking at the TARDIS and wondering what could be really going on if even his trusty time machine couldn't tell what this stranger was all about.

“Does this make him dangerous as well?” Twilight asked, walking over to her potion book.

“It makes him impossible, and I've dealt with Impossible things before that have led to dangerous things, but that doesn't mean he's initially dangerous.” The Doctor exclaimed, before sipping some coco.

“I don't know Doctor. I mean, I agree that his initial role when it came to the Vortex Ooze incident shows that his warped mind knows some kind of good. Enough good to help us stop it, but I have this feeling that the scroll he came out of was meant for something else.” Twilight commented as she then opened up the scroll she read from. He passed it to the Doctor. “You see, for the past couple of weeks, I've been working on trying to rework the puzzles and potions from the scrolls I found. Each one is connected by one thing and that is the Dark Wizard of Time.”

“What are you trying to say Twilight? That the Maestro is this Dark Wizard?”

“No, I was told by Princess Celestia that the Dark Wizard was merely a legend, but then so were these scrolls. I cross referenced each scroll and I realized that try are just modified spells and potions of Star Swirl the Bearded. There are exactly 23 of these scrolls, and they each deal with time, space, science, or dark magic ... Except for four scrolls that had good magic; this scroll was enchanted with a genuinely good magic spell to unlock something.”

“And you believe this something is in fact the Maestro! My-my-my Miss Sparkle, you have one of the most brilliant brains I've ever been fortunate to meet!” The Doctor exclaimed, kissing Twilight's forehead. She blushed a bit, and felt proud of her friend’s kind words. “I'll admit, this theory is quite far fetching, but I won't rule it out. A good Scientist never rules out a crazy idea.”

The Doctor took the scroll and stuff edit into his jacket's pocket.

“If you don't mind, I'll take this and the other three scrolls filled with this 'good' magic.” The Doctor said as he helped out his hoof.

“Spike, can you get them please. They're marked with green stickers for safe. They should be by the stairs leading up to the bedroom, so second floor, okay?” Twilight said.

“You got it; I'll be back before you know it.” Spike said as he ran back upstairs.

The two continued to discuss about the Maestro, sharing their two theories and figuring out if they should inform this to the Princess or not. Spike made it all the way up to the second floor, and searched around for the scrolls. He realized however that he move them up to their beds when she had a late night revelation about them. He walked up the steps and grabbed the three green sticker scrolls. He dashed back downstairs, passing by the couch where the Maestro was laid down since he fell into his coma. As Spike ran by the unconscious Maestro, he did not notice the Impossible Time Lord slowly breathe out the last of the golden dust particles, humming a harmonic them with its departure from his body.

“Here you go Doctor. The other three good magic scrolls!” Spike said as he handed over the scrolls to the Doctor.

“Thank you Spike; now I'll be off, I promised to meet with Octavia for that picnic. We might be gone for a while, maybe a week so don't get into any trouble until then, alright?” The Doctor joked as he pulled out the TARDIS key. He opened the door, but was tugged at the back of his collar by Twilight's magic.

“You’ll be gone for a week?! But Doctor, what about the Maestro? What do I do when he wakes up?” The unicorn asked, worried of what to do with the Maestro without knowing what to do with him.

“Give him a nice breakfast. Read him a book. Show him around. Give him a party for all I care, but you mustn't expose the fact that he may possibly be an alien from another galaxy or a dark wizard from another time, at least not to the authorities. Now can you please-AH!” He tried to explain quickly, but instead got pulled out of the doorway and forced to face Twilight.

“Not even Princess Celestia?! I've got to write my weekly letter to her by this Saturday. You mean to tell me, I can't even tell her about him, when she knows all about you?! That doesn't make sense!” Twilight frantically said, contemplating the consequences. The Doctor rolled his eyes, and sighed before coming up with a proper explanation to this little issue.

“Relax, Twilight. I know that letter is dire, so just write to her about what you've learned from the darker scrolls and that you're looking over the four you gave me. I promise you that in a week from now, you can send her another letter to Princess Celestia about him. Now can I please-HEY!” He calmly explained while turning back, until Twilight pulled him back, again.

“What about our friends, what if they remember from something he says that triggers their memory of that night. Or what if he tells them and they come to me with questions?” Twilight asked, now worried about what her friends might think.

“I won't answer that because I trust you well enough by now that you know how to handle a secret like this one. You need to understand that your Princess mustn't know anything about him, until I know for sure whether or not he is safe for this universe.” The Doctor quickly said before jumping back into his TARDIS, and shutting the door behind him.

“And if he isn't …?” Twilight asked from the other side. The Doctor paused going up the steps to his console. Twilight and Spike only stared at the Police Box doors, waiting for him to open it again and answer her question. There was a moment of silence between the two, with the only sounds coming from the bubbling of the potions behind them and the humming of the TARDIS. Suddenly the speakers turned on and The Doctor spoke out to them from his console.

“If you want to tell your friends who he is, then its fine by me, but when he wakes up … just try and take care of him … ok?” The Doctor asked, watching both Twilight and Spike from the wall monitor.

“We will and we promise to help you through this Doctor.” Twilight said as she and Spike looked up at the wondrous machine and its glowing sign.

“Okay, step back now. I’ll be back soon. Bye!” he said.

They did as he said and stepped back. The machine’s engines roared with that enchanting sound. Spike watched as it materialized out of existence, leaving nothing but the faint sounds of its engines roaring into the Time Vortex. Twilight sighed and turned away to her studies while Spike went back to cleaning their room all the way in the second floor. Meanwhile the Maestro lies asleep on the couch, dreaming of everything and nothing for the many days ahead. With the Doctor away and traveling in time and space via his Type-40 TARDIS, all he could do for now was to put it aside and focus on was getting to Octavia for their picnic at Trottingham. Even though at the back of his super genius brain, his subconscious was littered with all sorts of questions and theories that were interconnected by this impossible stranger from the time vortex.
