Chapters Countless stars dot the night above. But it all pales in comparison to the moon that has taken its place in the sky. The gentle light it emits seems to cover the ground much as a blanket would cover one's bed. The cold, crisp air does wonders to help cool you down as you trot through an open field of grass.
For the past few hours you've been spending some quality time with your little foal. While it's not good to keep her up this late, there were instances where you'd be willing to face the wrath of your wife. Besides it's her birthday, she should get to stay up longer regardless.
Vinyl absolutely loved the night, and who were you to deny her the chance to spend some time reveling in what she loves? And, as much as it pains you to think about it, tonight is the last night you'll get to spend with her or your wife for a month.
Your job demands you to be away for long periods, and needless to say you hate it. So while you're home you do everything you can to spend as much time with your family as possible. You just wish you could have done more with the three days you were given.
"Yay daddy do it again!" Vinyl cries out with joy as she rides on your back. You sigh to yourself, your mind exhausted from performing the same spell over and over again. But seeing her smile, getting to hear that innocent giggle that'd melt the heart of a windigo... it's worth it.
"Okay honey, one more, then it's off to bed." You concentrate and soon your horn begins to glow and the familiar hum of magic fills the once quiet air. It's a bit of a mental strain, but soon you're hovering a few feet off of the ground.
You fly around for a good thirty seconds, being careful so as to not make Vinyl fall, but you can only keep yourself airborne for so long. Sooner than you'd like you find your hooves touching cool grass yet again... and just like the times before your daughter is ecstatic.
“That’s so much fun!” Her little voice cracks as she wraps her hooves around you. She nuzzles into the back of your neck lovingly.
“Do you want me to carry you home Vinyl?”
“Uh-huh,” her voice is muffled by her pressing her muzzle into your coat.
“Alrighty.” With your daughter clutching to your neck you turn around and head back towards home. It’s a bit of a trot. You have a bit of a tendency to space out on your walks, especially with an excited unicorn riding on your back. Soon enough your modest two floor home comes into view.
As you move through your well lit kitchen you see that there are still bits of Vinyl’s party that have yet to be cleaned up. You dread the thought of having to pick up those balloons or all that wrapping paper. You decide it’d be best to be left there until you have to leave.
Your happy mood is shattered when the thought of leaving your family comes to surface yet again. The life of a caravan guard is a time consuming one. This month you and your group will be heading to the Gryphon Kingdom that is why you’ll be gone for so long. You just hope nothing bad happens, but in the end all you can do is hope.
As you enter her room and set Vinyl on her bed she’s reluctant to let you go. It takes a little magic for you to pry her off your neck and tuck her in. You can see the tears forming in her eyes as you fluff her pillows.
“Do you have to go?” She sniffles and you know the waterworks will be coming. When her lip starts to quiver you pull her in for a hug which she readily returns. She clings to you and she seems to have absolutely no intent of freeing you. You feel tears wet your coat as you hold her.
“Yes sweetie, I do. If I don’t who’ll put food on the table? Or who will get you those little records you love so much?” this only makes her hug tighter.
“Honey, you need to get some sleep.” She shakes her head, burying her muzzle into your neck as she does so.
“Nuh-uh.” You snort.
“If I lie down with you for a little bit, will you go to bed then?” She pulls away, when she flashes you a smile her eyes seem to light up. She wipes away her tears while nodding excitedly. “Okay then, make room for daddy.” She gives you a good majority of her bed. When you get in with her she snuggles into your side and sighs contently.
Within minutes she’s sound asleep. You have to say that was much easier than you thought it was going to be. Being as quiet as you can you slowly get out of her bed and make your way to your bedroom, where your wife was busy reading up on some novel.
When she hears you come in she turns to you with a grin, “Hey there, took you long enough didn’t it?” She shuts the book and beckons you over with a hoof. You do everything you can not to leap into bed.
When it comes to your last night being home your wife gives you a little something to remember her by. You know it, and she knows it, but there’s no way you’re going to act desperate for it. As you settle in next to her you finally answer.
“Yeah, she didn’t want to go to sleep, had to stay with her for a little bit.” She sighs.
“I know, she really hates it when you leave.”
“I do too, but you know how it goes.”
“That I do, I’m still wondering when they’re going to integrate you into the Town Guard.” That’d be a dream come true for you, a bigger paycheck and the chance to be home every single night. You know your family would be ecstatic.
“They will eventually.”
“Honey they were supposed to a year ago.”
“I know they were, and because of their little oversight I’m stuck waiting.”
“Do you know how long it’ll be before they consider you for the position again?”
“I don’t, but I’m going to try after this little Gryphon venture. I swear I’m getting too old for this.” Your wife giggles.
“Honey you just turned thirty last week.”
“Exactly, too damn old.” You turn to your wife and see that she’s glancing over you, her eyes half lidded.
“I hope that doesn’t mean you can’t get it up anymore.” Your wife has just challenged your manhood. That prompts you to climb on top of her. She lets out a quiet gasp before giggling.
“Too old for this,” you grab her flanks, “these,” your hooves trace her teats. She shudders under your touch. “Or those,” you gaze into her eyes and you see a red tint grace her cheeks, “you must be crazy.”
“Anon you dog~” You chuckle before bringing your lips to hers. Before long you’re trailing kisses down her body and your lower half goes to half mast, ready for the fun it’s about to experience. But, what you fail to see, is the pair of magenta eyes watching the two of you from the little crack of an almost closed door…
Four years have passed since that wonderful night. There were so many gaps in that time period that you’ve missed. There were plenty of opportunities that have come and gone. Things left unsaid, and promises left broken. Your daughter, who is barely into her teens, shouldn’t have to deal with something like this.
You shouldn’t have to either, burying your better half is inevitable, but to be taken so early… the doctor never could make it any easier on you. ‘It was her time to go,’ is what he told you. While your heart was straining in your chest, and after your tears finally dried, you could at least take solace in the fact that your wife passed peacefully. The love of your life now lies cold and lifeless in such a small wooden box…
As you watch the last of the earth fills the hole your wife is in, you hold your daughter close. She’s all that you have left of her, your only reminder that you were a husband to a fine mare. You can’t let this keep you in such a state. Vinyl needs you now more than ever, and you’re going to do everything you can do be there for her. And it only took four years for the Mayor of Manehattan to finally allow you to transfer to Town Guard Duty.
Now you’ll finally be home every single night. While you won’t be able to spend that time with your wife, you can take solace in the fact that your daughter is still here with you. You look down to her to find that she’s still looking at her mother’s burial site. She stands stoic, silent, and unmoving.
Just like you, she’s in shock. Neither of you wanted to believe such a thing could happen, but when the service was held… it really dawned on you, and on her... she's gone and she's never coming back...
“Hey honey?” She looks up to you, her eyes bloodshot. She’d been crying until recently, “Listen, Mom may be gone, but I’m still here… I may not be the caretaker she was, but I promise I’ll be there for you in any possible way I can.” You tighten your arm around her and she nuzzles into your side.
“I’m just glad I still have you… I wish The Mayor moved you sooner… you missed a lot.” You feel pressure mercilessly squeeze upon your heart as regret rears its ugly head.
“Did Mom talk about me while I was gone?” Vinyl laughs dryly.
“All the time, whenever I sat there crying, wondering when you’d be home she’d always tell me that you were out there doing something awesome, and that you’d be home soon to tell us all about it.” This in turn makes you chuckle.
“She made out to be an adventurer eh?” Vinyl nods.
“Yeah, she kinda did… and you did have a lot of stories to tell.” You rub the back of your head nervously. You chuckle before averting your gaze.
“I uh… may have made some of that stuff up.” She raises a brow in question.
“Oh?” You nod.
“Yeah, a few of them.”
“Really? Like what?”
“Well, I wasn’t forced to fight as much as I let on… yeah there were a few punks who thought they’d get some free stuff, but your old man here is a tough unicorn. I didn’t take nothin from no one!” You flash your daughter a grin before striking a semi heroic pose. This in turn makes your daughter laugh, a real one for once.
“You’re crazy you know that?”
“Yeah you’re old man’s crazy. And if anypony messes with my daughter they’re gonna get to know just how crazy I can get.” As the two of you share a laugh you can honestly say your mood has improved, at least a little bit. While your wife’s passing is fresh, you can’t let it get you down for too long.
You have to be that strong arm for Vinyl, besides your wife would rise out of her grave and kick your flank if she saw you sobbing over her like this. You sigh to yourself before looking back down to your daughter.
“Are you ready to go Vinyl?” She shakes her head before turning her gaze back to the grave.
“Can we stay for just a few more minutes daddy?” You vividly picture countless memories where you’d hear her say the exact same thing just so she’d get to stay up longer with you. It brings a tear to your eye as you reminisce over the events that have passed… all that time you’ll never get back.
“Sure we can sweetheart…” From that point on the two of you look on at your wife’s tombstone in silence. You think of the mare that made her way into your life; a wife that had made your years exciting, and a mother that has done a fine job raising your daughter thus far. It’s your turn to pick up where your lover left off…
After a few minutes have passed the two of you make your way out of the Manehattan Graveyard. It’s a bit of a walk, but eventually your home comes into view. For the last few bits of your travel you’ve decided to carry Vinyl as if she were a child yet again.
You knew such an innocent act would help calm her, but just like all those times before her little ride was at an end. When she dismounts you and opens the door she almost rushes inside. You follow in close behind.
You have to say, your home feels fairly empty now… but you’ll get used to it. You sigh to yourself before making your way into your living room. Every room has a bit of your wife still left. You recall those times during Hearths Warming Ever where the three of you would laze about on the couch.
The fire that would be roaring in your fireplace would dance around full of life. And of course you’d be roasting the marshmallows for those little smores Vinyl loved so much. And sometimes your wife would pinch your flank causing you to drop a few of those white fluffy treats.
She always liked to tease you when your daughter was in the room. Your wife knew how to make you a frustrated stallion. These fond memories, among countless others, will stay with you for the rest of your life. As you lie down upon your couch you hear the sound of a few pots and pans knocking about.
“Hey honey what you up to?” You call; the sound stops almost immediately.
“I’m cooking dinner.” She answers back. You almost do a double take when you hear her. Since when did Vinyl learn how to cook?
“I didn’t know you could do that?” You hear her giggle at your ignorance.
“Dad, Mom taught me a lot of things while you were gone; cooking, cleaning, and all that other girly stuff.” You hear the sizzle of something hitting a hot pan. A delightful symphony of what's to come, your stomach rumbles loudly. “But that doesn’t mean I’m a master chef. I hope pancakes are okay?”
“Actually, those sound amazing right about now.” You lick your lips hungrily. After that silence takes precedence over your home. Minutes pass before you see your daughter trot into the room carrying two plates of pancakes in a light blue aura of magic.
Your eyes widen at the beautiful site. When she floats a plate over to you she brings her own to one of the couch’s cushions. You’re sure to move so you daughter has room to join you.
“Bon appetite,” she says before digging into her stack. You readily do the same. The only sounds that can be heard are the loud chewing on both ends. When you reach a stopping point you take a break to watch your daughter eat.
She’s eating like one of the caravan guards. Syrup nearly covers the entirety of her muzzle. Vinyl may have been raised to be the girl she is, but her eating habits are anything but. She stops for a moment when she notices you staring.
“What?” Syrup dribbles down her chin and onto the plate. You can no longer take the sight. Laughter erupts from you, “What?!” She glares angrily at your disposition.
“You eat like a stallion!” You know you shouldn’t shout out something like that to your daughter, but you can’t take it. She looks down at her muzzle.
“Huh, I guess I do.” She shrugs before flashing you a smile, “that reminds me. I got ask you something dad.”
“Yeah what is it?” You ask, your full blown laughter having died down to mere chuckling.
“Since you’re gonna be home all the time… you think you can teach me some stuff?” You find yourself curious from your daughter’s request.
“What do you want me to teach you?” Her smile widens.
“Teach me how to kick ass.” You gasp loudly before glaring.
“Vinyl, language!” Vinyl’s eyes widen when she realizes she let a curse slip through.
“Sorry…” Her ears flatten against her head, “Umm… Teach me how to kick flank?”
“That’s better.” Despite the syrup on her face you still pull her close and allow her to nuzzle into you. Looks like you’ll have your hands full now. You didn’t think your little girl had the makings of a tomboy, but it seems like you were wrong.
Your wife taught her how to be a mare, now it’s your turn to teach her how to kick a stallion’s flank in if they mess with her. You smile at the thought of Vinyl coming home to tell you about how she beat up pushy, overbearing stallions…
Eight years have passed since your wife moved on to Asphodel. Just like the years before they seemed to pass by quickly, too quickly for your tastes. You watched as your daughter grew up into the mare she is today. Needless to say watching Vinyl grow up right before your eyes wasn’t without trials or tribulations.
The day she got her cutie mark was a day you’d never forget. She may have been a late bloomer, but you knew she’d find her special talent eventually. It turns out those records you gave her had an impact. In a way it was thanks to you that she found out what she was good at.
Well, she’d say she was good, but unfortunately you’re not one for the new age type of music. What she calls Dubstep you call “Crazy Blender Music.” Despite your obvious disagreements over the quality of her music you couldn’t be happier for her. She found something that brought her joy and as her father you supported her one hundred percent.
But like everything that came with age, you started getting worried for your daughter’s purity. Her changes were significant and you swear she used magic when she hit puberty. The way her flanks filled out and became quite shapely put you on edge. The sway her hips had when she walked didn’t help the situation in the slightest. You knew both stallions and colts would be eye raping your daughter. And you were getting on in age; you wouldn’t be able to kick all their asses.
It’s a good thing a majority of your paranoia was misplaced. You remember the colts she’d bring home for you to meet. And you remember her dumping each and every one of them in the end. While a good portion of them were the punks you knew that’d go after her, there were some that actually seemed worth keeping.
When you asked her she’d always say that they were missing something special, you didn’t ask anything beyond that. You knew that the more you tried to pry into her social life the more she’d push herself away from you. She was a teenager after all.
Classes were a breeze for her when she wasn’t being lazy. Well, to say they were a breeze would imply that she excelled, Vinyl didn’t. Despite your best efforts your little filly grew into the little rebellious teen you were afraid of. You knew it was too good to be true when she’d tell you about all the homework she didn’t have.
It didn’t help that you were fairly lax when it came to her school work. It’s not like you could help that you didn’t learn half the things she was being taught nowadays. Besides, what’s a Pythagorean Theorem going to do when you have a gryphon or a changeling bearing down on you?
Regardless of how her school and personal life went, you were happy with how she turned out. Admittedly you were dreading her becoming a dainty little unicorn, but instead you got a firecracker of a daughter. All those little lessons and training exercises made her a force to be reckoned with.
When she became an adult you saw just how far that saying went. If a stallion gave her any trouble they’d find themselves on the way to Manehattan Medical faster than you can say ‘Sweet Celestia.’ While she could handle herself when it came to the occasional pervert, finding a job was a whole other story.
Employers didn’t really take to her laid back attitude, or her manners. That’s kind of your fault, but just because she was told no doesn’t mean she gave up. No, you raised your daughter to better than that. At least you were able to do that right.
When no one wanted her she decided that being self-employed was a much better idea. She started off slow, but eventually her name became recognized, and soon club owners left and right wanted your daughter, and then the bits started rolling in for her.
She easily garnered more bits than you did. And here you were guarding the town for almost a decade. Needless to say you were a little irked, and quite jealous, but you were happy for her all the same. When she saved up her money you figured she would have moved out, but surprisingly she stayed home.
Her reasoning was that if she left you alone you’d be screwed without her. In a way that was sort of true. You were a terrible cook and cleaning wasn’t exactly your forte. Vinyl was there when it came to those jobs you couldn’t do, or were too tired to do. You thought it was amazing that she could balance household needs and her job at the same time despite her hectic schedule. When it came to her contributions it was as if your wife never left at all.
Which reminded you of something your daughter told you; a week after your wife passed Vinyl promised you that she’d pick up where her mother left off. She said that she’d do everything your wife did. You really hoped that she wasn’t really going to stick to that promise, the last thing you wanted to do was hold her back. She should be free to pursue her own life, to be independent…
But she insisted on sticking with you. And you knew better than to argue with her, she was just as thick-headed as you in that aspect, curse your genes. But, not all was as it seemed. While the good and bad of your daughter growing up was leaning more towards the good, one thing made it swing in the opposite direction.
You noticed a subtle change in her. It tied in to her demeanor a great deal, and in all honesty it was quite scary to you.There would be hugs that'd last far too long and would involve her gently caressing your back. Times where you'd catch her sniffing in an embrace; as if to inhale your scent.
And there were even moments where even her kissing your cheek became less daughter-like. During her mid to late teen years you knew she was maturing… but the noises you’d hear in her room some nights... the moaning, the grunting, the squeaking of the springs…
Then, one night as you were making your way to your room you passed by hears, and what you heard caused you to freeze in your tracks. You remember that when midnight struck had gotten up to get a glass of water, and when you were on your way back you heard her… masturbating.
While every fiber of your being thought you disgusting for doing this, curiosity got the better of you. You put your ear to her door and listened in. It was one of those nights where the two of you had an argument, and you could tell that she was taking that irritation out on her body.

Sad Sweet Melodies Part Two
“Yo, Happy Birthday Pops!” You wake up to the loud volume of your daughter’s voice and her vice grip of a hug. You’d jump out of bed if your daughter didn’t drape the top half of her body on your chest.
If her hooves weren’t wrapped around your neck you’d think she was tackling you rather than embracing you. As she nuzzled the side of your face your thoughts drifted to today. You sigh out of irritation. You’re forty two now; you’ll be forty three next year.
You’re going to miss being in tip top physical condition. It’s as if you can feel the cartilage in your bones slowly grating away already. Your thoughts are put on the backburner when Vinyl finally ends her embrace with a quick peck on your cheek.
“Thank you sweetie. What’s got you in such a good mood?” Regardless of how quick you were the giggling comes up anyway. You weren’t a morning person and you really didn’t like hearing such a high pitch this early. You love your daughter with all your heart but there were just some things you couldn’t stand. She suddenly stops and puts a hoof to her chin in thought.
“Oh nothing much, just got a bucking AWESOME day planned for you.” Like a switch she’s right back to acting like a little filly. She alternates between jumping on your bed and your hardwood floor. Her little mane and tail move with her as she bounces… as does her voluptuous flank.
Without thinking you bring a hoof up to your face and swing, whatever sleepiness you felt is gone, as well as those dark thoughts you harbored. Vinyl stops her merriment and looks to you with concern.
“What was that all about dad?” You internally curse when heat begins to rise to your cheeks. You really just eyed your daughter again you sick stallion. You clear your throat.
“Nothing, so uh… tell me what’d you have in mind? You do realize I’ve got guard duty today right?” You can’t help but feel angry over the fact that you didn’t get the day off. Even on holidays you had to guard this place.
“No you don’t,” your daughter smirks. Needless to say you’re thoroughly confused. “Had a little chat with the Captain of the Guard stationed here, got you the day off.” You stop yourself from scoffing. Captain Steel Wing rarely gave her guards any sort of day to themselves. She never made an exception for you before. You swear she loved keeping you around day in and day out just to make your life miserable.
“How’d you do it?” Her smile widens; she explains while examining her hooves in a nonchalant fashion.
“Oh it wasn’t anything really, just told her if she didn’t I was gonna make her look bad in front of hundreds of guard ponies.” Your eyes widen, Vinyl’s attitude is going to get you dropped from the Guard if she isn’t careful. They’re very intolerant to ponies like her; they’d consider your daughter a punk, a malcontent, or something of that nature. And she disrespected your Captain… you’re going to get an earful tomorrow for sure.
“Vinyl, why would you do that?” you sigh. She wraps a hoof around you much as a friend would and pulls you close.
“Cause pops, you and I are taking on the town for your birthday. It’s been a while since we did something together and I wanted it to be special, ya know?” As she goes over details about your day your heart sinks a little in your chest.
Vinyl wants to take you to a bunch of different places in Manehattan, and she wants to end the night by going to her favorite nightclub. She intends on doing a personal set for your birthday. You shudder at the thought of a Dubstep Oriented Birthday Song.
That and you haven’t been to a nightclub since guard training. You’ll be so out of the loop the younger folks there will laugh you out of the building. But, when your daughter tells you she’s be planning this day for a week you can’t merely tell her you don’t want to go it’d break her heart.
“Vinyl,” she eyes you expectantly, “let’s go on your little adventure.” You swear your hear her squeak like a rubber duck before she wraps you into a full hug yet again. Then you feel yourself being dragged toward your bedroom door. “Whoa, whoa, whoa Vinyl, hold your horses for a minute.”
“What’s wrong? We gotta get an early start if were gonna make the most your day.”
“I love the enthusiasm, but I need to take a shower first.” The red tint to her cheeks strongly contrasts her snowy white fur.
“Oh, of course you do! Cause, yeah ya kinda stink pops,” she laughs nervously and she finds it hard to maintain eye contact with you.
So after a moment she lets you go so you can go about your business. You don’t keep your daughter waiting for long. You spend maybe a half an hour making proper hygiene your best friend before going back to meet your daughter.
While you were quite reluctant at first, it was around ten in the morning and the streets were still busy with multiple ponies going about your day. The noise and the crowds were always a hassle, but today seemed especially so. It was probably because you didn’t get your coffee.
Vinyl readily rectified that. A quick stop by a coffee shop and two cups later you’re energized and ready to take on the day. For the next few yours the two of you spent your time walking about the city, taking in the sites you’ve taken in multiple times before. You figured it’d be boring, but with your daughter by your side it was anything but.
She started off by causing a small scene, when you went through the park she took it upon herself to go swimming in the large fountain set in the center. Everyone seemed to stare at her, and then it quickly became the both of you when she kept telling you to get in with her.
Apparently you were being too uptight lately and you needed to live a little. Naturally you refused, but that didn’t last long considering your daughter teleported you in with her. She’s getting too good with magic and it scares you a bit.
You were completely soaked and Vinyl did nothing more than laugh, hard. You didn’t appreciate that in the slightest and it showed. You showed it by splashing water in her face. It was your turn to laugh as she coughed and sputtered; when she recovered she was glaring.
That little action triggered the Great Splash War of Manehattan… The two of you went back and forth soaking and re-soaking each other with water. Magic was involved, and any pony unfortunate enough to be near the fountain were caught in the cross fire. When the magic finally died down you realized just how much trouble the two of you were in. A quick teleportation spell and drying spell took care of that though.
When noon came to pass the two of you took to seeing a few movies. True to her nature she got excited for the action reels you got to see. Explosions, large battlefields were hundreds of ponies fought tooth and nail for victory, rival unicorn and Pegasus nations vying for control of Equestria.
Needless to say you were quite into the flick, so much so you didn’t even notice your daughter using you as a headrest or the way she smiled sweetly up at you as you enjoyed the movie. Many hours passed as you kept your eyes glued to the screen and when all was said and done the sun had set over the horizon.
And all at once, Manehattan’s night life sprung to life. As if someone flipped a giant switch. The lights, the people, the music that filled the air as you walked in the cold crisp air, all of it culminated and blurred together.
When you turned to your daughter and saw her smiling and wearing her shades you knew you were in her territory now. The nightlife was her playground and she was about to show you the ropes. You let her take the lead as she moved through the ever growing crowds of ponies, gryphons, and the like…
Eventually the lead you to one of what she considered to be the single largest club in Manehattan: Club Harmony. A building who’s décor was dedicated to the six ponies that saved the world again and again. The rainbow-esque designs matched the colored gems and jewelry perfectly.
Unfortunately you could feel yourself starting to get a headache from staring at the color scheme. The first half of the building was much too bright for your tastes. Vinyl seemed to notice and she beckoned you forward, past the mob of ponies dancing out on the well-lit dance floor.
Where she brought you to would stay engraved in your mind for a long time. What you didn’t realize was the first half of the building was supposed to represent an older appearance for the light hearted party goers. But this half was for the more modernized party ponies, or so she says.
As soon as Vinyl opened the door you realized quickly that the building was enchanted to be soundproof. So that way neither group would bother the other. Deafening bass sent waves of vibrations reverberating through your body. Each and every one started at the tip of your muzzle and ended at the base of your tail causing you to shiver.
But it was only the beginning, when she brought you in you saw would leave you thinking that ‘modernized’ didn’t cover it. Futuristic would have been a term you would have used. Immediately you recognized that you were walking on solid plexiglas.
You looked down to find an endless expanse of black staring at you. But that abyss didn’t stay dark for long. As it turns out there was a pause in the beat, the pitch grew quiet as did the dancing ponies. While you stared at the floor the ponies stared up at the DJ working the turntables.
Slowly but surely the pitch rose in volume signaling the crescendo to the song. Then, the drop hit. All at once color flooded your vision as you realized that the floor you were standing on was all that separated you from a large screen built under it.
Like individual currents mapped out within the ocean various colors seemed to snake across the floor under the dancing ponies. Greens mixed with blues that soon became purples, blues, and reds. When they would reach the end of their ‘life’ they’d spark into brilliant multitudes of white light almost as if fireworks were set off under your hooves.
You turned your gaze to the walls… and to the ceiling… you were in a giant Plexiglas box and the screen was fitted around it. Everywhere you looked color pervaded the room in beat to the music. The glow sticks the dancers wore were a sharp contrast to color you were currently mesmerized by.
Sporadic waves of orange, yellow, and green of their gear moved wherever the party ponies did. It wasn’t long before you found yourself sweating, the body heat of all these ponies were heating up the air around you, and the air was thick from all the labored breathing, but you could stand it.
Vinyl finally tears you away from the site and over to a nearby bar. It, like the walls and floor, were made of plexi. The only bit that made it different was the black cushions on the tops of each stool. At least you wouldn’t be uncomfortable.
When the two of you take a seat a unicorn bartender makes his way to the two of you. At least the bartender was well dressed; you could respect a pony in a suit.
When he gets to you Vinyl leans over the counter and starts talking to him. She keeps pointing to you as she speaks, unfortunately you can’t hear her over the music.
The bartender nods before flashing you a grin, “Hey buddy!” He shouts. It comes out muffled, but it gets your attention.
“What?!” You call out in response. He leans in.
“You’re DJ-Pon3’s old man, and it’s your birthday? Sweet Celestia you know what that means?!” He smiles widely. You could make out the majority of it enough to garner a reply. Wait your daughter has a stage name? You look to her and she shrugs, a smile plastered on her face.
“What does that mean?” In a flash of magic you find a shot glass filled with electric blue liquid in front of your hooves.
“Drinks on the house!” You stare blankly at the glass. You could smell the alcohol and your nose wasn’t even near the edge of it. That liquid hasn’t touched your lips since you applied for Guard Training… before Vinyl was even born. Twenty two years sober… needless to say you were reluctant to indulge.
But your daughter wasn’t, she downed a glass of her own without thinking twice. When she finished she flashed you a grin, you gave her a disapproving frown in turn. You didn’t like the thought of your little girl drinking something like that… but as you’ve come to realize she isn’t your little filly anymore…
In order to keep these thoughts from leading you down a sullen path you pick up your shot, raise the glass to her, then down it. You don’t swallow immediately; you let the contents sit in your mouth for a few moments. It’d been two decades since your last taste and you wanted to remember it.
It had a tangy, yet bitter flavor to it. Overall it wasn’t bad, you’ve had worse. But that opinion changed when you swallowed. It was as if you had a pony dislocated your jaw just so a dragon could breathe concentrated fire down your throat.
Immediately you’re wheezing and tears pool around your eyes. You knew you were out of it but sweet Celestia you didn’t think you were that much of a mare when it came to drinks. While you suffered your daughter laughed while patting your back.
“Take it easy killer!” You glare at her through tear filled eyes. You’re starting to regret coming here in the first place; the only reason for even considering this was to support your daughter. It didn’t matter what day it was, her happiness came first to you. And today nothing would make her more so than you being here while she played.
“What in Tartarus was that?!” you point to your empty shot glass.
“Scratch Special.” An alcoholic drink named after Vinyl? You look to her in question and she nods. You have to say it was special alright. Nothing has brought our poor throat more pain than that. The end of the song prompts you and Vinyl to look up to the second floor of the building, where the DJ stood behind the turntables.
“Alright everyone show’s over go home,” The Dj stays silent for a moment and takes on a serious expression. The party ponies look between each other confused before the jockey burst out into fits of laughter, “I’m just buckin with ya, but seriously I’m done for the night. I’m gonna let Pon3 pick up where I left off.” All at once the crowd turned to the bar where your daughter was busy waving excitedly.
They erupt into wild cheering, that prompts your daughter to stand on the bar and leap towards the crowd. At first you think she’s going to end up face planting on the glass, but the unicorns catch her. She floats in a rainbow colored aura over to them.
Then they drop her so she can ride the sea of ponies up the nearby set of stairs, and up to the turntables. From there she points to you and announces to ALL OF THEM who you are and why you’re here and about how tonight’s set was dedicated to you.
Luckily you didn’t hear a collective ‘aw’ rise from them. Instead the ones that were tired of dancing flocked to the bar in order to buy you drinks… which you were already getting for free. But you’re not rude enough to refuse their offers. While it may not be the wisest choice it’s been too long since you’ve gotten to live a little. A few drinks wouldn’t hurt, or so you thought…
Time began to blur as shot after shot is poured into your gullet. Even as your vision became hazy you continued to down drink after drink after drink… you’re fairly certain one of those ponies slipped something into your drink because next thing you knew you were out on the dance floor.
It was as if you were in university all over again. You writhed about with the others, hypnotized by the music Vinyl poured out in your honor. Everything was so pronounced yet impossible to focus on. Your body was on fire and the only thing you could do was keep moving. The beats entranced you and made you into a willing slave. And it was only beginning… You don’t know when it happened or how it happened, but as Vinyl dropped the bass your vision faded to black…
When you finally came to sometime later you found yourself freezing. Thankfully the majority of the drinks you consumed ran their course as your vision was no longer hazy, but you weren’t exactly walking on your own. You looked to find that you had a hoof around Vinyl’s withers and were leaning into her.
She was helping your intoxicated flank home and somehow the two of you were able to walk upright. You chalked it up to magic as you always do when something happens and you can’t understand it. You let out a low groan prompting your daughter to look your way.
“There you are pops, man you had a bit too much didn’t you?” she giggles at the end of that before shaking her head, “I never thought I’d see the day my dad cut loose. It. Was. Awesome.” You chuckle weakly in response.
“Yeah, your music was something I’ll give it that… maybe it isn’t as bad as I thought it was. But I don’t think I’ll be doing that again at least not for a long, long time.” While you were regretting being so gluttonous with the liquor you have to say that tonight… was the most exciting experience of your life.
By the looks of the glow sticks on your neck you had a blast. It’s too bad you don’t remember a bit of it, but judging at how things are now it seems like you didn’t end up doing anything you’d hate yourself over. As far as you know anyway; you were going to ask Vinyl about it, but she was already going on about it.
As it turns out you were the life of the party tonight. You knew you still had it; decades of guard duty didn’t completely crush your rebellious spirit. Not a word leaves your lips as Vinyl goes over what she saw you doing.
It helped fill in the time it took to get back to your house. By then you were able to walk on your own for the most part, but you knew you’d probably be somewhat inebriated for the remainder of your night. When you stepped inside you were surprised to find that it was two in the morning. You were dancing for almost eight hours… you were going to be sore when you woke up.
“Oh wait a minute, dad, I need you to go into the living room for a moment, take a seat I’ll be there in a sec. I got one more surprise for you.” And with that she pushes you into the room and has you take a seat on the couch, “And before I forget you need to put this on.” You find a blindfold in one of her hooves.
You look to her suspiciously, “Why do I need to wear that?” You didn’t like the thought of being unable to see, even if it was for a gift. Her eyes seemed to shift back and forth as she tried to come up with a response. It’s as if her whole demeanor changed…
“C-can you just do it for me please?” She looks to you pleadingly, she seemed quite nervous. You look to the blindfold, and then back to her, “please” she whispers. You sigh to yourself, whatever it is, if it’s got Vinyl riled up like this you might as well just go with it.
“Fine,” she nods as you use your magic to wrap the blindfold around your eyes. The abyss floods your vision yet again. You hear the sound of Vinyl’s hooves as she trots out of the room. You’re left to sit and wait as per her request. You swear you can hear water running… After a few minutes or so she comes trotting back in.
She’s breathing quickly, as if she were really anxious about something. You hear her move over to you, and then away… she was pacing in front of you. She’d stop every so often for a few seconds before going right back to it.
“You can do it Vinyl, you can do it,” she whispers over and over again to herself as if it were her mantra. You clear your throat prompting her to freeze in her tracks.
“Vinyl, what’s wrong?” You hear her breath in sharply before exhaling. Then, she takes a seat next to you. You don’t like this at all and the fact that you can’t see is only driving you to be nervous. Like her your breathing is starting to increase its pace and your heart begins to race.
“D-dad, there’s something I gotta tell you,” you’re pleading internally that she isn’t about to bring up something you didn’t want to hear. You have a feeling you know what it is and every fiber of your being is telling you to cut her off, to interrupt her.
She’s going to tell you she loves you in a way that’d destroy the relationship you have as father and daughter. You can FEEL it, and it scares you beyond belief. You could feel your blood run cold as she starts speaking.
“I… well… I’ve not been the best daughter… I’ve done things that I’ve kept quiet about for as long as I can remember… I was so scared about how you’d react I didn’t say anything,” she takes a shaky breath, “But I’m going to tell you all of my little secrets… dad, when I was a filly it was kinda hard for me to sleep.”
You could recall a few nights where you’d let Vinyl sleep with you and your wife. She’d have a nightmare and you’d be more than willing to let her stay with you if it meant she’d get a good night’s sleep. Your wife told you she did the same when you were off with the caravan.
“There were some nights were I’d look in to find you… rutting mom.” Your cheeks flush with embarrassment and shame, “b-b but instead of going back to sleep… I would stay and watch.” Self-disgust fills you to the brim. Had you known you could have nipped this problem in the bud… how many intimate nights did your daughter see during her years as a foal?
“It was… well I didn’t know at the time, but as I got older my body started getting really hot when I watched you and mom… I was scared, too scared to tell either of you… but of course school was able to educate me… about the changes my body was going through and about what I was feeling.” You find your throat dry, you find yourself too shocked to say anything.
“So… whenever you and mom rutted I’d touch myself as I watched… and it felt… so good…” she keeps trailing off, as if trying to find the right words to say. The train wreck has already started, there’s no stopping it now…
“I’d watch as your… your stallionhood hilt inside mom when you didn’t have the covers on… I was mesmerized by it… by you. And I couldn’t look at you the same way again. I started to picture myself in mom’s place and it got worse for me. Whenever you hugged me or when you smiled and praised me… my body would get hot like those nights and…” Your mind can fill in the rest, she has no need to continue… but you won’t be given that mercy.
“And I’d rub myself furiously when I was alone. My body yearned for you… I knew I should have thought it was weird or gross… but it excited me… to think of my dad’s hard… th-throbbing thing pumping furiously in my holes… of your weight on my back as you kept me pinned… even the thought of you filling me up with your seed I-” You shake your head, you’ve heard enough. You try to get up and move but you realize that there’s an invisible force keeping you on your couch.
“No, let me go!” You grunt loudly trying to force your way out of the hold Vinyl has over you. Your horn starts to glow as you concentrate on a spell, but before it could be cast it sputters and dissipates, “W-what?!” You shout in confusion. Why couldn’t you cast a spell?! Before you can ask your lips become sealed.
“Dad, I’ve got a lot of friends at Club Harmony. Friends willing to do questionable favors for me… I promise I won’t take advantage of it beyond what I’m doing now,” you can’t believe what you’re hearing, “and I’ll free you when I’ve said my peace.” You can’t stand it, your own daughter has thrown away the trust you’ve built with her. Anger wouldn’t even begin to describe how you’re feeling now.
“As I was saying… after thinking of you filling me up I went mad with what I thought was lust... but there was more to it than that, much more. You’ve done so much for me,” she gets off of the couch and starts to pace yet again, “you’ve raised me, cared for me, protected me, and you’ve been there when I needed you… you went through so much just to make me happy… I couldn’t help but fall in love with you.” She stops in front of you. “What mare in her right mind wouldn’t?”
“And for years I kept how I was feeling hidden away… but not anymore.” She sighs, “I love you dad.” You can’t see her, but you can certainly feel her breath tickle your muzzle. Vinyl has leaned in. The scent of peppermint invades your senses… she went to brush her teeth. So she'd have fresh breath for this.
“I love you… Anon,” As she brings her lips to yours the bond you once shared as father and daughter shatters like broken glass…

You’re repulsed by your body’s reaction to this. Even if you weren’t pinned by Vinyl’s magic you honestly cannot say you would pull away from this. Her bright magenta eyes never leave yours for a moment. The nervousness behind her gaze is palpable.
She has been fighting this for years, the inner turmoil over breaking this taboo weighed heavily on her mind, more so than your own. What you don’t know is that she’s fearful and rightfully so. Her greatest fear isn’t that you’ll not only refuse her, but you’ll throw her out of your life.
When your expression doesn’t change from sheer shock you can see her eyes begin to water, but she doesn’t let up. Her soft lips gently caress yours for mere moments before she slowly pulls away. Her scent lingers in your nostrils and you find your sense of morality slowly start to ebb away.
Vinyl’s tears are free flowing now; you haven’t seen her like this since your wife’s passing. And just like back then you find your heart breaking at the site. Your anger melts away, only to be replaced with shame. It doesn’t matter if it was against your will, that doesn’t soften the blow.
Your daughter just kissed you because you were too scared to address this problem earlier. It’s your fault that things escalated to such a point. Had you spoke with her about this that night you… heard her then things may have been different. You caused this, and now you’re paying the price for it.
As the light of her magic fades you can’t bring yourself to yell at her, nor strike her for doing such a thing. She’s already hurt enough as it is. Vinyl can’t even look up at you anymore. She wipes her eyes with a hoof before turning to the door.
“You’re repulsed aren’t you? I-I guess I’m not your little filly anymore I can see that now.” She takes a deep, shuddering breath, “I’m sorry, but that’s how I feel about you… I can’t help that you don’t feel the same way. I-I think I’m gonna go, I doubt you want me around anymore anyway…” she takes a few steps towards the door.
And it’s at that moment it really dawns on you; as soon as Vinyl steps out that door she’ll be gone for good. You’ll have nothing left for you when that happens… when you had your wife and your daughter you felt complete.
You saw the two of them as your figurative wings, having them in your life was like a dream for you. Like you could do anything, because you knew that they would always be there for you no matter what. Because of them you felt like you could fly.
When your wife passed it was as though you were cruelly taken from the skies. It was as if a wing had been forcibly torn from your body putting you on the ground yet again. You would never be whole again, but as long as you had your daughter, as long as you had one wing left you could still cope with the loss.
But if you let her walk out now, then your only wing will be ripped from you, leaving you an empty pony. A mere hollowed shell of your former self. She was the only source of joy you’ve had for many years… she did everything she could to keep you happy and much more.
You worked tooth and nail to keep her happy as well. She cared about you deeply and the same could be said of you when it came to her. It seem as though she would have done anything to keep you from feeling sad or defeated after a particularly hard day on the job. If she leaves then you’ll no longer have such a luxury… you’ll be all alone, and you’ll die a miserable, lonely stallion.
In the end you’ll only have yourself to blame, even if you stop her now things will never be the same. There’s no way that’s possible now… but, maybe you can do something to keep her from walking out of your life for good.
Like her when it came to you, you held a certain attraction to Vinyl. Her enthralling eyes, her illustrious electric blue mane and tail, her pure snow white coat… everything about your daughter was magnificence. In your eyes her imperfections were miniscule to the point of non-existence.
The more you thought about it, the more you began to realize that you haven’t felt love like that in a long, long time. Sure Vinyl loved you much as a daughter would her father, but the love that came from a special somepony… you haven’t felt loved like that in many years… and honestly you missed it dearly.
You grew old thinking you would never get to feel that way again, but your body yearns for her… that quick kiss left a more prominent impression than you would like to admit. While brief it was enough to spark a small flame within your old bones, a small flame that began to spread filling you with familiar warmth that you once thought would remain stone cold and lifeless. You take a deep breath when you reach your decision. You’re about to dip your hooves into something forbidden… you just hope you won’t live to regret it.
“Vinyl wait,” she freezes in her tracks, her hoof upon the door. She turns back to you, her bloodshot eyes stare widely, “Come with me.” You step off of the couch and make your way to your room. Vinyl follows silently behind you.
The journey seems much, much longer than it needed to be. She’s since stopped crying and sniffling. When you open your bedroom door and step inside you wait for her to enter in behind you, which she does.
“Shut the door,” with a quick chime of magic your door gently shuts and clicks in place. Your heart is pounding your chest at this point. You haven’t felt this nervous since your honeymoon. It’s like being a young stallion all over again.
It’s now you realize just how silly that seems. Your age has made itself apparent time and time again, especially when you compare your age to Vinyl’s. That in turn makes you wonder, just how can she fall in love with an old bag of bones like you? She told you her reasons, and admittedly you couldn’t believe it, that just makes your heart rate that much faster.
“I-I can’t let you just up and leave after that. What you did to me just then was un-called for, but what you said to me… it just wouldn’t feel right for you to just go before you heard what I had to say.” You pause and gather yourself for what you’re about to tell her.
“You’re not the only one whose had to hide a few secrets,” your ears flick when you hear her hooves shuffling from behind you, “Vinyl, I’ve watched you grow and admittedly I’ve thought of you as an object of desire more than once.” It’s out in the open now.
“Your flank doesn’t help in that aspect. I’ve had to hide my shame more than once around you. You’re very attractive… and I thought I was nothing more than an old pervert desperate for attention because of it.” You hang your head low, embarrassed at the fact that you’re spilling your innermost desires out to her.
“But you’ve got more going for you than your beauty. Vinyl, everything about you is amazing and I’m proud to call you my daughter. And I’m not saying that just because I’m your dad. You’ve grown into a great mare and any stallion would be lucky to have you… and to think you love an old stallion like me.” You chuckle to yourself before turning her way, now you’re the one not willing to make eye contact with her.
“So… if you still feel that way… then tonight I’m not your father, and you’re not my daughter. We will be a mare and a stallion sharing their love for one another, nothing more nothing less.” You sigh to yourself, still refusing to meet her gaze, “That is if you’ll have me. Let’s see where the night takes us.” Having said your piece silence fills the room.
You hear the soft clopping of Vinyl’s hooves as she approaches you. She brings one to your chin and lifts it up so you’re forced to face her. You see a significant change from the mare you had in your living room just a moment before. There is no nervousness behind her gaze…
You’re not prepared for what happens next. She presses her lips to yours yet again, but this time she’s anything but gentle. Vinyl’s kiss is strong enough to put you on your hind hooves. She readily pushes against you leading you to the bed.
When your hind hooves hit the edge you fall back as she falls forward. Vinyl takes her place on top of you, her lips never leaving yours. You stare wide eyed as her moist tongue plays against your lips, begging for entrance.
As soon as they part for her she invades your mouth. Her muscle runs wild within; it trails along the roof of your mouth, the back of your teeth, until it finally starts to wrestle with yours, as if to force you into submission before you have the chance to fight back against her.
It’s as though she’s testing your mettle, to see if your words were truthful. You’re more than willing to prove that you want this to happen. While her tongue greedily laps at yours, your hooves reach her flanks. While you may be out of practice you know just how to handle these aggressive types. In a way she’s just like her mother, it’s time to see if she’ll react the same way.
When you slap her flank she freezes and lets out a muffled moan into your open mouth. That momentary pause was all you needed to take the offensive. Your harsh tongue forces hers out of your orifice and you invade her muzzle just as she did yours.

Your breathing hitches as you and her take a moment to stare into each other’s eyes. Hers are glazed with a primal lust and you’re sure yours reflect the same light. That does nothing more than turn your kiss into something ferocious in nature. You unleash a throaty growl before pressing your face harder into hers eliciting a sharp squeak of surprise from her.
Though you remain on top of the kiss, you find it hard to keep you attention from waning. At this point her wild mane has managed to drape itself across your face, tickling you and she’s already started to rub herself against you. She’s been craving this for years and she’ll be damned if she doesn’t put her all into this.
Vinyl finally gains momentum, the sensation of her coat against yours being too much for you to maintain dominance. It’s enough so that she’s able to return the kiss with as much force as you’re letting out. Her tongue gracefully moves along yours and your little dance swaps between mouths. Now neither of you are trying to gain an upper hand on the other, it’s an even amount of give and take.
Reluctantly, the two of you part. When you do you’re panting heavily as is she, multiple strands of spittle connect your lips and it takes all of your will power to keep from leaning in and going again. For now the two of you have silently agreed to stop and move on.
She keeps her muzzle close to yours, but she doesn’t close the distance. As she continues to pant you do in turn, sharing in her breathing. Then, she starts to grind her hips into your lap, earning a grunt of approval from you in return.
