"Then don't make fun of me reading you little hay seed!" Twilight glared, resisting the urge to give Fluttershy a swift kick to the ribs. "You're a mud bucking hay seed!" Fluttershy recoiled and covered her mouth with her hooves, not used to using such vulgar language. "Get out Fluttershy, I'm breaking up with you..." Twilight stood strongly, her legs slightly spread and her body low, as if she were ready to attack at any moment. Fluttershy's eyes widened and watered over, brightly reflecting the dim candle light in Twilight's library window. She took a couple steps back and blinked, sending a couple sparkling tear drops to the floor. She then turned around and galloped out the door, not looking back. Twilight's anger seemed to vanish as she looked down at the floor and bit her lower lip. Instead, her rage was replaced with heart wrenching sadness. She limped over to her couch and plopped down, moping. She looked up at the clock, it was beginning to get late and Spike still wasn't home. She curled up on the couch, tucking her hooves in. Should I go talk to her? Maybe apologize? No, what do I have to apologize for, I didn't start this... She did. The door creaked open. "Hey Twilight, sorry I'm late, Rarity needed extra help with a new... something she was making." Spike chuckled under his breath as he recalled the day. She just gave him a weary wave with her hoof. "Everything okay Twilight?" "No..." Twilight tucked her head tightly into the cushions of the couch. Please just go away Spike... Spike walked up to her and placed his hand on her back. "Do you want to talk about it?" "There's nothing to talk about. I broke up with Fluttershy, end of story." The apathy was apparent in Twilight's voice. "What? Why? I thought you two were doing well." Spike jumped up onto the couch and bent over Twilight to see her face. Twilight looked up at the prying dragon. "None of your business Spike, now go to bed." Spike was hurt by her harshness, but decided not to take it personally. She just needs time to relax. I'll talk to her about it in the morning. "Okay, goodnight then." Spike calmly walked upstairs and crawled into his bed. He was tired and ready for sleep after his long strenuous day. Twilight stayed on the couch, mulling the day over in her mind, wondering how everything went from good, to bad, to worse in such a small amount of time. She remembered what Fluttershy had done and said, then the anger came back, filling her heart and mind with rage. She quickly jumped up and headed over to the den's hutch. She pulled out a quill and scroll and began writing a letter to Celestia. Dear Princess Celestia, I don't have a friendship report for you this week. Instead I'm requesting that I be reassigned back to my studies in Canterlot. Things here in Ponyville got out of hoof to say the least, and I'm no longer comfortable living here. I just hope you can understand, and I'll be eagerly awaiting your reply. Twilight rolled up and sealed the scroll, she considered waking Spike to send it, but didn't. She lit her horn and shroud the letter in purple flames, causing it to ignite and float out the chimney in an array of ash and cinders. Twilight returned to her sulking on the couch, contemplating rather or not to begin packing now. Only a few minutes had gone by before a sharp flash of light appeared along with a letter falling to Twilight's hooves. She grabbed it with magic and opened it immediately. My dearest most faithful student, Twilight Sparkle. It pains me to no end to hear of your struggles in Ponyville, one can only imagine the hardships you must be enduring. You live in a library, your favorite place, and you have a personal assistant to clean up after you all day and every day. You're also surrounded by friends and ponies who adore your knowledge and magical abilities. However, I'm sure your petty dramatic squabbles are enough to throw all of that away, I'll be reassigning you as soon as possible. Be back in Canterlot tomorrow afternoon. Twilight rolled the letter up and let out a deep sigh. Bitch... Well I guess I should get some sleep and pack up tomorrow. Twilight just rolled over on the couch and looked into the dimly burning fireplace, not willing to get up. She stared at the partially illuminated photo of her and Fluttershy standing in Sweet Apple Acres, Fluttershy's wing was wrapped around her back and she had a bright smile. Twilight closed her eyes and pushed those memories out of her mind. Soon enough, she was asleep. Meanwhile, Fluttershy had made her way back home. Along her way she was caught off guard by Rainbow Dash, who had dozens of prying questions and even more offers to assault or attack Twilight Sparkle in one way or another. "She's not good for nothing Rainbow, this is kind of my fault anyway. I just want to go home and go to bed now." Fluttershy looked at the ground and continued her slow walk home. Rainbow continued to follow her, flying around in strange ways, peering down at her upside down and flailing her arms around. "Come on Shy, you know I can't just drop it, there has to be something. I know what its like to have your heart broken, and I'm sure whatever you did couldn't have been bad enough for Twilight to just send you out into the cold like this. Please let me help Shy, don't try to make me beg because we both know that's not happening." "Well, maybe you can just help me take my mind off it for a while." Fluttershy stopped and looked up at her empathetic friend with large glowing eyes and a small crooked frown. "Don't look at me like that, come on. Whatever, what do you want me to do to help?" Rainbow Dash softly fluttered to the ground and met her gaze. "I want you to be a good friend, like you always have been. Maybe we can talk and you can help me take care of those animals tonight." Fluttershy put on a fake smile, if only to encourage Rainbow and make her feel like she was being helpful. "Okay Shy, you're lucky I love you. I'd rather just go kick Twilight's butt." Rainbow Dash wrapped an arm around Fluttershy's neck and messed her mane up with the other hoof. The two continued back to Fluttershy's home and went inside. Needless to say, the animals weren't cared for that night. Twilight hadn't been sleeping long before she heard a feint knock at the door. Before she could say anything it inched open. A large pony eased their way in wearing a dark gray hood and cloak. The luminescent mane shone from behind the hood and Twilight immediately recognized her princess. "Princess, what are you doing here? I thought..." Twilight stopped speaking when another pony walked in behind her princess, this one was slightly smaller but still much larger than any average pony. She was dressed in the same inconspicuous outfit and her deep blue mane let off an eerie glow as if it were a reflection of the night sky itself. "Luna? You too? Why are you both here, I thought I was being reassigned tomorrow." I'm in deep donkey dung aren't I... Celestia spotted the worried eyes on Twilight's face. "Don't worry my little pony, we aren't here to punish you. I realize you've hit an important bump in your life, and I sent you that letter to give you something to think about while I made my way to you." "Oh, well, I see. But why are you here too Luna? Not that I'm not happy to see you." "Yes well I felt it was imperative to get a first hoof view on today's style of social interactions. I am becoming quite accustom to the self destructive cycles and repetitive mistakes you call society." Luna took her hood and cloak off, gently levitating them to a nearby coat rack. Celestia smiled at her sister's demeanor. "Well then Twilight, allow me to continue, I'm here because you failed to learn a very important friendship lesson. I'm not surprised or disappointed in you, I know this must be confusing for you, but getting hurt by your friends, especially ones you share a deep or special connection with, is a big part of life. That doesn't mean you should just pack up and leave town though. You need to work past your problems and learn from your mistakes. That way you won't repeat them." Celestia glanced over to Luna with a grin on her face. Luna blushed and smiled, feeling a bit awkward. Twilight let out another deep sigh and collapsed back onto her couch. "I, I'm sorry princess. I should try harder to be a better student and learn from these situations. It's just hard to make myself see this as anything other than a mistake that broke my heart." Twilight's eyes were beginning to water as she pressed a hoof tightly into her chest. She couldn't take her eyes off that picture of her and Fluttershy and wished with all her heart she could go back in time and relive those happy days. "Twilight, another reason I'm here is so that I can comfort you in your time of need. I still hold a great deal of love for you, you are the most important pony in my life, tied with Luna. I've always thought of you as a little sister and helped raise you to be the amazing pony you are today. I hope I taught you better than to give up so easily." Celestia paced over to Twilight, she put a hoof on her shoulder and leaned down to give her a kiss on the cheek. Luna had taken a seat near the window in the darker corner of the room, she stared out into the night sky and let the moon and stars shine down onto her face, lighting her eyes up with unrivaled beauty. Celestia made eye contact with Twilight and gestured her to look over at her sister. Twilight leaned up and Celestia took a seat on the couch next to her student and placed her hoof on her haunch. Twilight looked over and was quickly captivated by Luna's entrancing beauty. Her eyebrows bunched up and raised as she felt the familiar sensation of a growing infatuation. Celestia smiled knowingly. "You see my dear, there will always be beauty to be found in this world, always. Never forget that Twilight." Luna heard the two talking and look over to see the two mares looking back at her. "I, um... well, yes?" Twilight looked up at her princess with hopeful eyes. Celestia was taken a bit off guard by this reply, she looked over to her sister who had covered her mouth with her hoof and was suppressing her laughter on the other side of the couch. Celestia thought about respectfully declining Twilight's request and heading back home, but then again, back at the palace there was nothing interesting going on. Her and Luna would probably just go back doing their typical boring political tasks and let the days slip by. This was a bit of excitement in a recently dull life. "Okay then Twilight Sparkle, prepare to be amazed." Celestia placed a hoof under her nervous student's chin and tilted her head up. Luna on the other hoof was portraying a modest yet hopeful smile, seemly saying she'd be hurt if she wasn't chosen. "Well, I've made my choice." Twilight closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The two sisters leaned in cheek to cheek, desperately anticipating Twilight's next words. "It's a tie!" "What?!" The princesses shouted simultaneously. "No no no, it can't be a tie, that's just stupid Twilight, you have to pick which one was the best." Luna stamped her hooves repeatedly on the floor. "She's right Twilight, I expect better from my best student. Making these decisions can be hard sometimes, but everypony faces a time in their lives when they have to make a choice that could hurt one friend's feelings. It must be done... So do it." Celestia's eyes were wide and she peered into Twilight's soul with piercing intimidation. "Okay I'll pick one of you. Hold one while I think carefully about this." Okay what really matters is which one of these two is the biggest threat. Luna scares me... But Celestia does awful, terrible things to ponies that wrong her. I need to consider my best interest. "I've made my decision. Celestia is the best kisser." Twilight glimpsed over at Luna with one eye closed, fearing a buck to the face. Instead she saw Luna's smile turn into a wobbly frown as she plopped to the floor. Celestia on the other hoof was busy doing a bit of a victory dance. Twilight smiled and gave her a nod of approval, choosing not to speak as she continued to explore every inch of Celestia's sweet spot with her tongue. Luna looked back up at her sister's calm face, she was lightly breathing as she rested her head off to one side with her eyes tightly closed while biting down gently on the glowing restraint in her mouth, clearly enjoying Twilight's performance. Celestia looked outside, it was getting late and it was still dark, they had work to do. They all said their goodbyes and the princesses gathered their things and stepped outside. Celestia raised the sun and Luna lowered the moon, everything would go on like normal. "Oh by the way Twilight, what did you and Fluttershy fight about anyway?" Celestia couldn't help but let her curiosity get the better of her. "Well, it's actually kind of silly. You see, I was playing Skyrim and I killed a rabbit, which Fluttershy didn't like... then things kind of got out of hoof." Twilight looked down at the floor and thought about the whole situation. "Are you kidding me? I'll see you soon Twilight..." Twilight shut her door and headed back in, Spike was fast asleep on the couch, and her she couldn't help but feel like she should go talk to Fluttershy. She made her choice, she trotted out the door and down the road to Fluttershy's house. It didn't take long to arrive and she knocked on the door. There was no response so she let herself in. The throw blanket on the couch was tossed onto the floor, one off the cushions was missing, and there were a few random blue and yellow feathers strewn across the floor. Twilight shook her head and decided to investigate upstairs. She inched the door open and spotted a long pink mane hanging over the edge of the bed along with a rainbow one laying over top of it. "Rainbow Dash! The hay is this?!" Rainbow jumped up and lost her balance, tumbling to the floor. "Oh hi Twilight... Uh, I have to go now." She jumped back up to her hooves and pushed the window open, then leaped out and took flight. Safe! She wasn't sure where she was going, but she aimlessly flew in a straight line and went over everything that had happened last night in her mind. Then, a small orange pony caught her eye. She immediately spread her wings out against the air and came to a stop, Scootaloo was happily trotting to school. "Hey! I have a score to settle with you!" Rainbow began to chase the little pegasus through the streets, but that little pony was surprisingly fast on her scooter. Eventually she made it to the safety of school grounds and Rainbow retreated. The sun was high in the sky and a new day was ready to unfold. Surely events during the day would lead to something exciting tonight, simply because that's what happens in Ponyville.
