Chapter 1: Every Time I Look in the Mirror....
Jacob felt tired.
Not 'tired' like 'sleep-deprived', but just.... 'worn-out'. He looked at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, the lines on his face seeming to stand out more than usual. He wasn't old; he was still a sophomore in high-school. But he felt old and tired. Empty. Jacob lifted a hand to his face, and sighed. His blonde hair was cut short, like the military. He thought his hazel eyes looked rather dull. He never changed his wardrobe, either; just a graphic tee and a pair of jeans, evey day, for the past three years. Today, his shirt held the logo of Aerosmith.
Jacob turned on the faucet and splashed some cold water on his face. His tiredness seemed to feel alieved, if only temporarily. He cracked his neck, and left the bathroom, going down the hall to his bedroom. He sat on his bed, and looked at his alarm clock. 4:16 AM. He wasn't supposed to get up for the next two hours, but his body clock got him up anyway. Jacob sighed, thinking of his options. Read a book? He read too much already. Music? Maybe. He decided just to watch Youtube on his iPod Touch. He was hoping he didn't get much homework in school today.
Some of you may be asking, 'Why would Jacob be so tired?' There is one thing he devotes his energy to, each and every night. You see, Jacob has found himself in a strange predicament. He has fallen in love with not a human, but a pony. A pony named Princess Luna. He thought at first it was just a phase, but phases don't last a whole year, and grow stronger as time goes on. He would pray to her, each and every night, before he went to bed. It just felt right to do so. He looked out his window, seeing the full moon shining onto his bed.
He smiled.
Princess Celestia felt tired.
Not 'tired' like 'sleep-deprived' but just.... 'worn-out'. She had been very busy lately, what with the court full of snobby nobles, a ridiculous amount of paperwork, and her current project, she never had a minute to rest.
Ah, yes, her project. Her project was to give her sister what she desired most: a certain human. Celestia found Luna's announcement of her choice of a lover rather unexpected, even moreso when she said she had loved this human for a whole year now. She said she could feel his love for her emanate strongly all the time. She searched this 'Jacob' out nonetheless. It would be worth it to see her sister happy.
Princess Celestia read her most recent letter from Twilight Sparkle, who was helping with this project.
Dear Princess Celestia,
I have found him. He is quite studious and intelligent, and very mature for his age. I see why Princess Luna loves him so much. He seems to have great respect for his teachers, so my current cover is perfect for getting close to him. With any luck, I will be able to bring him here within the week. Of course, he can stay if he chooses, but I doubt he will, if what you have told me is true. Besides, we can always bring him back later.
Your faithful undercover student,
Twilight Sparkle
Celestia smiled. She would be able to give her sister the object of her affection.
Jacob walked down the hallways of his school at his normal pace (speed walking) and entered his morning English class. Most people weren't here yet, and it was still a few minutes before class started. This gave him time to take off his backpack and sit down to relax at his desk. He looked at the teacher's desk to see the substitute teacher, Ms. Sandra, filing some papers. Her hair was her most striking feature. It was straight, dyed purple, with a pink streak. She glanced over to see Jacob, and began typing on her laptop. She was wearing a lavender dress, with a pair of star-shaped earrings.
Of course Jacob was suspicious. He couldn't tell why she dressed like that, but he just thought that she was eccentric pegasister.
That, or she just really liked purple.
Jacob put in his earbuds, hoping to relax for a few minutes before class started.
Twilight glanced over to see Jacob sitting at his desk, as usual. She began typing her letter to the Princess.
Dear Princess Celestia,
Jacob is now in class. I will be asking him to stay after class. That is when I plan to tell him. Though, part of me thinks he may already know. I have one question, Princess. What if he doesn't believe me?
Your faithful undercover student,
Twilight Sparkle
After hitting send, Twilight looked back up to see the classroom was now mostly full. She got up with a smile and said "All right, students, please pull out your textbooks and turn to page 71....."
Celestia read over her student's letter. She thought for a moment. What would convince Jacob that Twilight's words were true. A necklace, or even a lock of mane? No, those could be faked. She needed something non-material, something meaningful to Jacob. Then she remembered hearing something interesting in her times of eavesdropping. She wrote her response and sent it off, assured that Jacob would believe Twilight now.
Class was over, but Jacob still sat in his desk, waiting for Ms. Sandra to return. He had been asked to stay after class, but he didn't know why. He sighed and just let time pass for a few minutes. Ms. Sandra walked back in at that moment. She sat down at the desk across from Jacob and looked him in the eyes.
"Do you know why I asked you to stay after?" She asked, to which Jacob simply shook his head. Jacob was not one to talk for the sake of talking. She sighed. Here it goes.
"How much does the name... 'Princess Luna' mean to you?" Jacob's eyes widened, and his voice caught in his throat.
".... It means a lot to me." He managed to say. Ms. Sandra smiled, and continued.
"What if I said she heard your prayers? That she loves you and yearns to see you?" Jacob's face was a mix of hope, sadness, and a hint of anger.
"How did you know about that?" He asked quietly, standing up from his desk. She couldn't actually be... no. That's crazy.
"My teacher asked me to disguise as your teacher," She said with a smile, "and to bring you back with me. Bring you to Luna."
Jacob was tearing up. Could this woman really be who she says she is? He shakily asked "How d-do I know you're telling the truth?"
She got up and went to her computer, and read off exactly what Princess Celestia had sent her. It was a string of numbers, meaningless to everyone but Jacob.
"Two, six, eight, four, three, five, four, five, nine, one, one, five, four, three, six, eight, zero, zero."
Jacob's final doubts were shattered. He walked forward, up to the woman who was not really a woman, but a mare in disguise. He finally said her name.
'Twilight Sparkle." Twilight looked up with a smile. She held out her hand, and he took it.
They disappeared.
Chapter 2: Livin' Easy, Lovin' Free....
[Pre-story A/N: I plan to have this story focus on the political aspects of Princess Luna having Jacob move in, and how that will affect their daily lives.]
Jacob opened his eyes.
There they stood, in the halls of Canterlot Castle. It was just like the show, but more..... expensive-looking. Soft velvet carpets underfoot, stain-glass windows coloring the light, and servants walking down the halls, a few of which were stunned to see such a creature in the halls.
He looked to his left to see Twilight Sparkle, as a unicorn. Her head only came up to his chest, putting her at around 4 feet tall.
Jacob pinched himself on his arm, and when nothing happened, his smile grew even wider. He was really here. Oh, how he had dreamed of coming here. He had thought deeply about what it would be like, and what he would say.
He was so deep in thought that he barely noticed Twilight poking his side with a hoof.
"Not to bother your train of thought, Jacob, but Princess Celestia would like to speak with you."
Jacob nodded. "Yeah, I figured." Ah, Princess Celestia. Jacob had a few choice words about the Princess of the Sun. He respected her, of course, but he found it very hard to like her. She just seemed too.... perfect. Nonetheless, the pair walked through the hallways, passing servants and guards alike (some of whom gave Jacob a few threatening glares), before arriving at the large double-doors that led to the throne room. Twilight's horn began glowing a soft purple, and the doors slowly swung open, allowing them to enter.
There she sat, on her throne. Princess Celestia. Her mane flowed slowly, but there was no wind. Her soft white fur glistened like it was radiating sunlight, and her deep magenta eyes slowly swept around the room, complemented by a soft smile. The room itself was full of nobles, many of whom noticed Jacob and were shocked and disgusted at such a filthy and horrid creature wandering the halls.
Jacob crossed his arms and smirked. Well, fuck you too. The nobles are just as snobby as I imagined, if not more so.....
Celestia saw Twilight and Jacob entering the throne room, and spoke aloud. "Attention everypony, day court is now adjourned until further notice." The nobles just grumbled and walked out the door, some shooting glares at Jacob, while other, less snobby nobles just glanced at him with curiosity. Soon, the room was empty, save for Jacob, Twilight, and the Princess.
Princess Celestia gave a single flap of her wings, and lifted herself off the throne and onto the floor. Jacob only came up to her shoulder; she must have been almost eight feet tall. She gave a smile, and spoke in a casual tone.
"So, Jacob, I suppose you have questions?"
Jacob chuckled. "One's been bugging me. Pray tell, how did you learn my family's wi-fi passcode from three years ago?"
Princess Celestia giggled. "Two six eight, four three five, four five nine, one one five, four three six, eight zero zero. You really do have a memory for numbers, Jacob. And to answer your question, I found the code on your Xbox's hard drive."
Jacob just shook his head with a smile.
Of course she did. She's an all-powerful goddess. Of course she can access my hard drive.
Twilight Sparkle spoke up. "Wait, why do you have such a strong memory?"
Jacob just shrugged. "Comes with the Aspergers. Just the way my brain is wired."
"Well then," Celestia cut in, "I suppose you want to see my sister now?"
Jacob looked up in confusion. "Wait.... She knows who I am?" A smile creeped onto his face.
"Of course she does. I had Twilight bring you here because tomorrow is her birthday, and I wanted to give you to her as a present."
Jacob just grinned. He was so excited.
She knows who I am? She loves me back? Yes yes yes!
Jacob pumped his fist in the air, to the amusement of the two mares in the room. Just then, a voice could be heard from behind. It was a voice Jacob knew and loved to hear.
"Sister? The nobles.... Just left the castle... woke us up..... What is-" The voice cut off, and a second later, Jacob was tackled to the ground in a hug, his face peppered with kisses. His mind was still catching up, but he was able to think one thing clearly.
Best day ever.
Eventually, the kisses died down, and Jacob was able to get up. In front of him stood Princess Luna, bouncing up and down and grinning like a foal on Hearth's Warming Eve. She was, at head height, about as tall as Jacob, which would be a few inches less than six feet. She gave out a squeal of delight, then wrapped her hooves around Jacob, hugging him tightly. It was a hug that Jacob was happy to return. He relaxed in the soft velvet of her fur, the comforting pressure of her hooves on his back, and the weight of her head on his shoulder.
Princess Celestia just giggled at the scene. "Well, there goes my original plan. Happy birthday, dear sister."
Princess Luna didn't seem to hear her, just picking Jacob up in her magic and racing down the halls toward her bedroom. Jacob had what one would call an ear-to-ear grin. He was here, and Princess Luna wanted him. This day could not get any better.
But it could get worse.
As Princess Luna ran down the hallway, she stopped when she came across a certain white unicorn stallion. The other nobles looked like saints compared to this guy. He turned around and gasped at Jacob and Luna. Jacob just groaned.
Not this asshole....
"Princess Luna! What are you doing up at this hour? It is daytime!"
Princess Luna nodded, setting Jacob down and putting a foreleg around his shoulder. "We are retiring to Our chambers to spend quality time with Our lover."
Blueblood smiled. "Well, don't let me keep you. But, Princess, what is this... thing, that you have with you?"
Jacob put an arm around Luna's neck. She looked at him, smiling, and planted a kiss on his cheek. "This is Our lover, Jacob."
Blueblood began laughing. "Oh, Princess, I never took you for a jokester!"
Luna tilted her head in confusion. "What joke? We speak the truth."
Blueblood's expression changed from one of laughter to one of shock. "Princess, you have chosen to court with that?! But it is filthy! Unclean!"
Luna's face contorted to one of anger. She put herself muzzle-to-muzzle with Blueblood. "Who We court is Our business, and We will not accept any disrespect towards our choice! Are We clear?" She turned on her Royal Canterlot voice.
"I said, ARE WE CLEAR?!?!" Prince Blueblood hastily nodded before scampering off down the hall.
Jacob sighed. "Well, that was unpleasant."
Luna and Jacob walked down the hall to Luna's bedroom, entering and sitting down on the edge of the bed. Jacob looked to his left, and Princess Luna smiled lovingly at him. He sighed.
"Well, here I am, Princess. I'm really grateful that-” Princess Luna cut him off with a deep kiss. It was only a few seconds long, but it felt like an eternity. She drew back, and gave Jacob a look with half-lidded eyes.
"Please..... Call us... me.... Luna."
Jacob nodded, lying down on the bed, ready to rest after an exciting past few hours. Princess Luna got under the covers, and pulled Jacob under with her. She wrapped her forelegs around his neck, and the two fell asleep in each other's embrace.
