Night Surfer grew up in the small town of Ponyville and to the outsider it seemed he was gonna go far as he was one of the best employees Cloudsdale ever had but they never knew what was going on inside his head, everyday was the same, Go to work, clear the clouds or move new clouds in so it'll storm but it just felt repeated and there was no joy in it anymore, once upon a time maybe he had enjoyed it, but he felt like he was in his prime and yet he was still young but there just seemed to be something missing but what was it?
Sighing he laid down on the one cloud that he had not yet cleared so he could relax, he stretched his dark blue wings out sighing as he heard them crack and then folded them back up; his wings got really whacked out while flying all the time but he wouldn't trade his wings for the world; They were one of the few things that still gave him joy.
Night Surfer did not look like other colts his age, in fact he more resembled the fillies his age as his head and such were feminine in feature but this did not bother him at all and he actually prefered this considering he wasn't exactly what you call straight but that was something he kept to himself and never really thought of dating anypony much.
Shaking his head of those thoughts, he closed his eyes and let his mind drift as he took a much needed nap.
He shouldv'e known that his nap would be interrupted since that was what usully happened, and sure enough he was awoken by none other then one of the Mane 6 Pinkie Pie.
"Hey Night, you up there? I need to talk to you!" Night Surfer groaned when he heard the happy voice of Pinkie but knew better then to ignore it since he knew what happened if you did that. You wouldn't have any peace until you talked to her.
Flying down, he landed beside her with a yawn. "Hey Pinkie, whats up?"
"Oh nothing much, just saw that one cloud up there and I was like. Yeppers, Night Surfer is taking a break!" She skipped around Night Surfer happily and he just rolled his eyes with a smile, he just couldn't help but like this comedian.
"Ha, what if it was Rainbow Dash and not me?" He said back mischievously with a grin.
"You silly, I just left Rainbow Dash at Sugarcube Corner! Thats how I knew it was you!" She playfully hit him with her right hoof and he laughed.
"I could have been anypony else, why would you think it was me?" He was enjoying playing this game with her, of course there were times when he wouldnt be but he was in a particularly good mood so here he was.
"I knew because there are only two ponies here who are like the fastest ponies around, you and Rainbow Dash and since I left her back at the shop I put two and two together!" She took a deep breath after speaking and collapsed on the ground and rolled on her back. "Get down here with me Night, we can see how many things we can see on the clouds."
He chuckled. "Theres only one cloud Pinkie." He didnt argue though and he laid down next to her and looked at the lone cloud in the sky and smiled slightly at the irony, one cloud out of place and that was how he felt; He just felt so out of place there like he was meant for something more, but he just couldn't figure out what it was.
"Night? You still there?" He heard somepony say and he quickly shot out of his thoughts and looked at the smiling pony beside him, she always seemed to be in a good mood but he knew there were times when she got depressed or whatnot, he was glad these were not those days for he could not handle that; Not the way he was feeling.
"Yeah, sorry Pinkie. My thoughts just seem to run away with me sometimes." He giggled and looked back at the cloud. "Y'know, come to think of it. That cloud looks a bit like your pet." He grinned mischievously.
Pinkie giggled and looked at it again, "Yeah, it sorta does. Though the cloud has teeth, at least it looks like that."
Night grinned and chuckled, Pinkie wasn't so bad if you took the time to get to know her. Yeah she was hyper but she was a partypony and she knew how to cheer ponies up rather well.
"Well Pinkie Pie, thanks for hanging out with me and cheering me up." He said with a grin and gave her a big hug before flying up to the sky with a wave and cleared the last cloud before heading back to Cloudsdale, he had kind of taken his break and had to go back and clock back in and see what other jobs they had available for him.
Flying up he landed down the cloud that made up Cloudsdale and headed to the main office, for now his thoughts were mainly on his job and not focused on his life and what he should do. For those thoughts would most likely lead him out of his comfort zone and he had no idea where that would take him.
Smiling at the fun he had had with Pinkie and watching the clouds he entered the office and his boss waved him in.
"Hey Striker, I finished clearing the clouds at Ponyville. Whats next?" He had a feeling something was wrong though when he said that since his boss gave a strange look and waved him to sit down.
"Night Surfer, you heard about the recent layoffs recently right?" Striker said slowly and Night nodded not liking where this was headed.
"Well, the higher ups have decided that you are the cut list. Now I tried to convince them to keep you but the answer was no, I'm sorry Night. I expect you to pack your stuff up, and be out no later then six tonight."
Night Surfer nearly died at the news, how could they do this to him? He had this job for nearly a year now and they were just now letting him go?
