Chapter 1

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. Like every morning, Rainbow Dash was practicing her routines. Dash launched into the air at high speeds to start. Dives, loops, and other various tricks were performed just above the rooftops of Ponyville. She was as free as a bird.The athletic pony started to climb higher and higher. Circling around the clouds, she spun into a dive. Diving so fast downwards, you could hear the sound barrier breaking.

A Sonic Rainboom started to form behind Rainbow’s flank. Her heart racing, Dash smiled ear to ear. I’m going to do it this time. Unaware to the Pegasus, the ground was fast approaching. She had to pull up, but there was hardly anytime.

Twilight had just finished reading a book about “Multiple Entity Teleportation” when she heard a loud, ear piercing noise coming from outside. She trotted towards her door and opened it. As the Unicorn trotted outside, she heard somepony screaming.

“OHMIGOSH OHMIGOSH OMIGOSH! Look out!” screamed Rainbow Dash.

The out of control Pegasus crashed straight into Twilight. CRASH! Twilight and Rainbow both hit the bookshelf, adjacent from the door. Dash had slipped from consciousness, although Twilight seemed to come out unscathed.

Twilight rushed over to check on her unconscious friend.

About twenty minutes later Rainbow Dash regained consciousness. Her head in a daze, all she could see was Twilight standing over her. Dash blinked several times to try to escape from the daze. Twilight's purple muzzle had worry written across it.

“Are you alright?” the frantic Unicorn said.

“Wha- What happened?” Rainbow said still in a daze.

“Ah! My wing!”

The sharp pain in her wing had snapped her back to reality. All of her senses suddenly rushed back to her in an instant.

“We need to get you to a hospital,” Twilight responded immediately.

“Oh no! No hospitals, I hate hospitals,” the wounded Pegasus explained.

“You’re hurt, come on lets go,” Twilight said attempting to pick up her friend.

Rainbow Dash scrambled to her feet. Trying to stand as tall as possible and show her friend she was all right.

“Nope. No need to go to the hospital! See all better,” Rainbow said trying to extend her wing.

Twilight rolled her eyes and said, “We are going to the hospital, even if I have to carry you there.”

Rainbow nodded sadly, knowing there wasn't any hope to argue with her worried friend. She knew better than to argue with an egghead.

“Alright, but only if I don’t have to stay there overnight” she said.

“Spike! Help me take Rainbow Dash to the hospital,” Twilight exclaimed to the young dragon.

There was no answer.

“You know he is spending the summer with the princess… Right?” Rainbow reminded her helping friend.

“Oh… Right… Uh, yeah I knew that,” Twilight lied.

Twilight helped Rainbow Dash limp to the hospital.

“It is only a bad sprain, but you need to stay off it for a week or two,” Nurse Red Heart explained.

“Yeah thats nice, can I go now?” Rainbow anxiously said.

“Rainbow!” Twilight roared.

“You have to stay here for further x-rays and examination. You can go home in the morning,” the nurse said. "The doctor will be back for the final results later."

“Awww!” said the disappointed pony.

Nurse Red Heart left the room. Rainbow slammed her hooves into the mattress.

"Relax Dash, its only until the morning," Twilight tried to reassure her upset friend.

"But thats like forever!" Rainbow said impatiently.

"Well if you want, you can stay with me until your wing heals up,"

"Are you sure? That would be great," Rainbow said

"Its really no problem," Twilight said.

The Pegasus blushed and said “Thanks Twi, I really appreciate it.”

Rainbow had been laying in the bed for hours. She had been visited by her friends briefly, but Rainbow was alone in the afternoon. She finally picked up a magazine. She was reading an "Equestia's Daily Gossip." She skimmed through the boring politics and important stuff.

Rainbow started to laugh.

"Vinyl did WHAT after the party?" Dash exclaimed, probably louder than she wanted.

The doctor walked into the room. The doctor was a chalk colored stallion with a dark brown mane. He was wearing a white button up shirt with a red tie.

"Hello Ms. Rainbow Dash. I have the x-rays," the doctor said in a kind voice.

"How does it look doc?" replied the Pegasus.

"Well it doesn't look to bad. You have some bad bruises here and here," the doctor pointed to the screen. "But it isn't anything serious"

"Yes! Thank you! How long until I will be back to one hundred percent?" she asked.

The doctor rolled his eyes.

"I have to get back to practicing. You see, you are looking at a future Wonderbolt!" Dash proclaimed.

"You will be safe to fly in six or seven days," the doctor said. "You won't need the bandages after tonight."

After that, the doctor left the room.

Rainbow Dash woke up to Twilight saying, "Good morning! Ready to go?"

"Yup. Give me a few minutes to get ready." Dash replied.

"Alright, sounds good. I will go check you out of here," Twilight replied before leaving

On their way home, they stopped by Sugarcube corner for a snack.

"Hi guys! Oh Dash, what happened to your wing?" the Pinkie Pie said, practically waiting for them.

"Rainbow crashed into me as she was trying to perfect her new trick," Twilight replied before Rainbow Dash could get out a word.

"I was attempting the most dangerous and most awsomest trick ever! It almost worked too, if I could just--" Rainbow Dash said before being cut off by Pinkie.

"Sounds really cool! We should throw a party! It could be called the I Almost Did the Best Trick Ever and Then I Crashed Party! We could have streamers and cake and lights and music and dancing and--" Pinkie said with her motor mouth

"Wow slow down there Pinkie, we just came for--" Twilight said to Pinkie before being cut off again.

"Oh you want a Cherry Chimmi Changa? Do ya', do ya'?" Pinkie exclaimed.

"No thanks Pinkie, Dash and I would just like a couple slices of the Strawberry Cheesecake," Twilight replied.

"Okie Dokie Loki! That will be 4 bits," Pinkie said to the others.

"Alright, I got this Twi" Dash said.

"Ok, thanks Dash I appreciate it," Twilight said to her generous friend.

"No problem, it is the least I can do for letting me stay over at your house while I recover," Rainbow said generously.

"Oooooo, are you guys having a sleep over?" Pinkie asked.

"I... Uh..." Twilight tried so say no without hurting Pinkie's feelings.

"Its ok, I understand," Pinkie said cheerfully. "Are you girls still going to the party?"

"Pinkie!" Twilight and Rainbow exclaimed.

After they finished eating Dash said, "Hey I need to head by work and tell them I'm going to be out for a week."

"Ok, thats fine," Twilight replied

They headed off in that direction.

They were greeted by the manager. He was a well built Stallion, but much older than Rainbow or Twilight.

"Hey, I won't be able to come in to work this week," Rainbow told the manager.

"Ok, I will have somepony fill in for you," the manager said calmly.

"Thanks," Rainbow replied.

"Hey there Rainbow! Oof," somepony said before falling flat on her face.

"Careful, Derpy!" Rainbow said as if it happens way to often.

Both Twilight and Rainbow turned around at almost the same time. Before them stood the clumsiest pony in all of Ponyville. Probably in all of Equestria too. She had the strangest golden eyes too.

"Oh, are you alright?" Twilight said.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Derpy said casually.

"How is the mail business doing, Derpy?" Dash said to the odd pony.

"It would be going better if I didn't open all the packages," she said.

"Why the hay would you open the packages," Twilight asked.

"I thought there were muffins inside," the confused pony said.

Rainbow and Twilight both sighed and shook their heads.

Derpy shrugged.

"Come on Dash we should get you back," Twilight said to her injured friend. "We have a mess to clean up."

"Yeah, right... Bye Derpy!" Rainbow said.

"Bye Rainbow Sparkle, bye Twilight Dash!" the confused pony said.

Rainbow and Twilight both sighed and shook their heads again as they headed out the door.

Later that night, after the mess was cleaned up, the two were getting ready to hit the hay.

“Hey Twi, where am I going to sleep? What happened to the couch?” Rainbow asked.

“I may or may not have turned the couch into a monster and set it free in the Everfree Forest” Twilight said cautiously, but here friend was lost in thought.

Twilight is being so nice to me. Even after I crashed into her house and ruined her bookshelves. Not to mention this isn’t the first time this has happened. I mean, Twilight is really sweet and generous, for an egghead. I mean I’m sure she would do this for any of her friends. Yup friends, just friends… Oh no! I don’t like her do I? I mean I like her, but I don’t “like like” her right? I mean I’m not into mares or anything. That was a lie. Back in flight school there was Gilda. She was almost as good as a flier as I was. I mean we fooled around, but it wasn’t a serious relationship. People wouldn’t think I’m awesome if they ever found out. Found out that I’m just a “Filly Fooler.”

“Are you coming Dash?” Twilight asked her friend.

“Huh what?” Rainbow said, snapping back into reality.

“I said I guess you could sleep with me in my bed,”

“Sleep with you? I mean yeah sure whatever,” Rainbow's heart skipped a beat.

Twilight climbed into her bed. She then gestured for her friend to climb in next to her. Rainbow did and the both of the started to drift off into sleep. There was barely enough for the two of them to have their space, but Dash didn't mind.

Soft snores echoed through the room, Twilight was asleep. Rainbow tossed and turned, trying her best not to wake up the sleeping mare. Unfortunately, there seemed to be no way for the Pegasus to get any sleep. She was lost in thought, thinking about Twilight.

We ARE just friends right? Twilight doesn’t have any interest in dating anypony, let alone a mare like me. I don’t even know what or who she likes, she is always lost in her books. Still she invited me into her home and is letting me sleep in her bed WITH her. I don’t know anymore. I could ask her out, but how could I ever do that without her freaking out. Even if it doesn’t work out, I could lose my good friend, Twilight.

She moved closer to the sleeping mare.

Maybe it could work out. Maybe she is into mares. Maybe she likes me. Twilight is the nicest pony I know, but she is so oblivious to anypony outside of her studies. She is just so busy. She wouldn't have time for me.

I should probably get some sleep. But how can I? I am just so confused. Ok face it, I like Twilight. I like the egghead. But she is more just an egghead. Does that make me an egghead? I am way to cool to be caught dead with an egghead. Right? I am so confused…

Finally Dash fell asleep.

Twilight woke up and to her surprise, Rainbow's muzzle was mere inches from hers. Dash's hooves were wrapped around the Unicorn.

"Gah!" Twilight screamed.

Dash immediately woke up.

"Gah!" Dash screamed as well.

They both fell off opposite ends of the bed.

"What do you think you are doing?" Twilight yelled.

"Ow... I dun' know I must have moved in my sleep" Dash lied.

"Oh, well... Just don't do it again," Twilight said.

"Sorry," Dash replied.

"I am going to go down stairs and make pancakes, do you need anything?" the upset pony asked.

"Some ice for my wing, if it would't be to much trouble," Dash said.

"Ice and pancakes it is then," Twilight said returning to a calmer state.

Twilight headed down the stairs. Dash sat back on the bed.

What was I thinking? I made her uncomfortable. Though she didn't freak out as much as I thought she would. She seemed more surprised than angry.

Twilight got down stairs and called out for Spike.

"Spi-- Oh right," Twilight remembered.

Spike was away in Canterlot helping the Princess send letter across the world. He is also going to visit the other dragons afterwards. There is no telling when he will be back.

Twilight couldn't help but to think about what just happened.

Rainbow never mentioned she sleep walked before. Noted. Still it was odd waking up close to another mare. I always pictured one day waking up to a stallion... With a black mane, dark coat, and the most amazing red eyes. One day, he will just sweep me off my feet and plant the most amazing kiss on my lips. Who am I kidding, I don't have time for romance. I should probably focus on pancakes, not stallions. Gosh I'm hungry. Focus Twilight.

Twilight got out the ingredients to make the pancakes. She never usually fixed breakfast, Spike did. She had to be extra careful not to screw this up. She remembered a recipe from a cook book she read not long ago. Twilight started to hum a little tune as she cooked.She worked to the rhythm, opening cabinets, getting out the frying pan, and turning on the stove.

Pancakes would be ready in no time.

Twilight finished making breakfast.

"Rainbow! Breakfast is ready!" the pony called to her friend. "And here is the ice."

Twilight placed the ice gently on her friends wing.

"Thanks Twi, I appreciate it," Dash said.

Twilight nodded as acknowledgement to the Pegasus.

"Whash da plan for today?" said Dash with a mouth full of pancakes.

Twilight waited to finish chewing to speak.

"I am working on a spell." Twilight said.

"What kind of spell?" Rainbow asked.

"It allows somepony to be tangible on surfaces that have a low density," the intelligent pony said.

Dash pretended to know what she said and nodded.

"Sounds awesome." Dash said.

There was a brief moment of silence.

"Hey Twilight, have you ever," she paused "Went on a date with somepony?"

"I went to my junior prom with Shining Armor before he and Cadence started dating," Twilight replied.

"I mean with a special somepony." Dash said.

"Hmmm, nope, I guess not. I never really wanted to," Twilight said.

"Really? I mean for somepony as beau-- I mean you never had a crush before?" Dash corrected.

"Never had the time, to busy with my books," Twilight said.

"What about you?"

"Me? I was always practicing flying," Dash lied.

"Not even in flight school?" Twilight persisted.

"I... Uhhh" she began to blush.

"It's ok, we don't have to talk about it," Twilight reassured her friend.

"Sorry Twi, I have to go... Uhhh... I have this uhhh thing. I will be back later. Bye!" Rainbow said in a hurry.

"Ok, I will be here. Bye Rainbow," Twilight said.

Dash headed out the door.

Dash was heading to see her oldest friend Fluttershy. Fluttershy knows about her and Gilda.

She finally arrived at her friends cottage and knocked three times. Rainbow could hear Fluttershy gingerly tiptoe to the door.

"Who is it?" Fluttershy called from behind the door.

"It's me Fluttershy, I need to talk to you about something," Rainbow Dash replied.

"Oh, I am so sorry Rainbow Dash. You see, I was expecting somepony else and I hope you don't mind. Please don't hate me," the shy pony said.

Behind the door was the shyest pony in Ponyville, holding a book between her wing and her side.

"Hello Fluttershy! Oh, hello Rainbow, dear," said from somepony behind Rainbow Dash.

It was Rarity. She was wearing a beautiful purple scarf with a fancy cream colored hat.

"Hey Rarity, what are you doing here?" said Rainbow Dash.

"We are going to discuss what we liked about the latest Clara Heart novel we just read," Rarity replied. "It is simply enthralling."

"It's a romance novel about two beautiful mares, Clara Heart and Hazel Sky. Its... well... its a nice story," Fluttershy said.

Perfect

"Well maybe you both can help me with a problem I have," said Rainbow Dash shyly.

"What kind of problem, darling?" Rarity replied in a concerned voice.
