Bon Bon sat in the middle of her room, blankly staring at the plain white ceiling of hers. It was a Sunday morning, and she, for the love of Celestia, could not think of anything to take up her time. She groaned as she fell onto her back. However, as her body met the floor, she heard a knock on her door-- or rather, somepony was rapidly attacking her door to no end.
"ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, I GOT IT!" Bon Bon shouted, exiting her room and making her way down the stairs towards the front door. Angrily, she swung the door open, and there stood a rather energetic aquamarine colored pony, who was still shaking her right hoof back and forth in a knocking motion. Unfortunately for Bon Bon, because the door was no longer in front of the crazy pony's hoof, Bon Bon's head became the new punching bag.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow!" Bon Bon shouted. "Would you stop that?!" Suddenly, the other mare obeyed and bobbed her head up and down repeatedly. Bon Bon rubbed her blue and pink mane in an attempt to soothe the pain. She took a peek up to get a good glance at the mare standing right in front of her-- something she had not been able to do because she was practically being beaten up. The moment Bon Bon's eyes met the mares', she gasped.
"Diiiidja miss me?"
Lyra Heartstrings is a shy little pony-- or rather, was a timid pony. When she was in grade school, she'd always get bullied by her classmates who'd constantly tease her.
"Ew, blank flank!"
"Heartstrings? How cheesy!"
"And just what is *your special talent supposed to be? Playing something as simple as that strange contraption on your flank?"*
"Where are you friends, Barfstrings? Oh yeah! You don't have any!"
Those were the types of insults that were thrown at poor Lyra. It wasn't like she was the only blank flank, however. Most ponies didn't get their cutie marks until their fifth year of grade school. She disliked having bullies go out of their way to purposely harass her. She especially hated it when she actually did get her cutie mark, the tormentors began making fun of her for being who she was.
Finally, when she reached middle school, she figured the harassment would stop. It didn't-- or at least, not until Bon Bon stepped into the picture. At first glance, Lyra thought that Bon Bon seemed like nothing but an ordinary pony who, most likely, butted in simply for the sake of wanting to help Lyra out because she was tired of seeing her around. However, Lyra was soon proved wrong.
Bon Bon appeared to be a rather nerdy pony due to her somewhat nasally voice, her pink and blue mane, and finally, because of her silly name. Though despite this, she was one heck of a fighter-- or at least, that was how Lyra saw her. Needless to say, when Bon Bon came to help Lyra, the latter pony learned a couple of new words that day. Nevertheless, the aquamarine pony was incredibly grateful for her help.
The week after, Bon Bon approached Lyra. It was at that moment when Lyra felt a certain click between them. She wasn't quite sure why, though. Her heart rate began to speed up a little bit, and she felt like she could no longer stuff another daisy into her mouth without regurgitating it. Bon Bon stuck out a hoof for Lyra to shake. It was evident that she wanted to become friends. Without a moment's worth of hesitation, Lyra went out and gently took the hoof. That was the beginning of their friendship.
For the rest of middle school, nopony ever bugged Lyra again-- especially not when she was in Bon Bon's presence. The two were left alone to share their laughs together, cry through their hard times, eat all their fears away, and sleep their worries away. In other words, they were absolutely inseparable... until one day, Lyra had some bad news.
She was moving.
The sky blue maned mare could clearly remember the reaction she had received from her best friend that day. It was excruciatingly painful to see Bon Bon look so tearfully sad. The two embraced each other for the last time in... who knew how long? Every day after Lyra's departure, she couldn't help but think about her friend. It had frightened her to know how much she cared for her.
But at that point, something hit her. Just why were her feelings towards Bon Bon so strong? Why did she care so much? Why did it hurt so much to leave Bon Bon anyway? It felt like every day that passed by was another day she had to live on feeling incredibly lonely to the point where she even refused to befriend other ponies. It soon became apparent to herself that she didn't want to befriend anypony else. She didn't want to get as close to anypony else as she was with Bon Bon.
By then, another realization attacked her mind. A possibility she had overlooked before. Something that she was somewhat afraid of. The truth in which she was previously unable to handle...
She was in love with Bon Bon.
Ever since the first day they became friends, she felt her heart racing, her face turning red, butterflies fluttering around in her stomach and flipping it upside down. A crush-- no, strong feelings for her best friend. It didn't take Lyra more than five minutes to clasp these feelings in her hooves and bring them to her heart. She had accepted them immediately. At that moment, she swore that when she was older and had enough money, she'd return back to Ponyville, the place where the one she loved lived.
Bon Bon was the one pony who helped Lyra out. In other words, she was her 'prince', a knight in shining armor, even. She wanted to relay these feelings to Bon Bon at any cost. After a few years of education and working, Lyra was able to save up enough bits to move. Lyra was super excited for the trip. Finally, the day she had been waiting for for years.
When Lyra got back to Ponyville, the first thing she did was visit Bon Bon's house. She stood outside of the door, and gulped. This was it. She knocked on the door about a hundred times. Lyra was not exactly the best at concealing her enthusiasm. Within a few seconds, she heard a loud scream of irritation coming from the other side of the door that acknowledged her presence. Suddenly, the door swung open and revealed an agitated Bon Bon. Lyra continued to stand there speechlessly. With her face turning red and her mind boggling, a dumb and wide smile crept upon Lyra's face.
Oh Bon Bon, how I've missed you so much!
