//-------------------------------------------------------// Sweet Heartstrings -by Ponyzilla- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Sweet Heartstrings - Prologue Bon Bon sat in the middle of her room, blankly staring at the plain white ceiling of hers. It was a Sunday morning, and she, for the love of Celestia, could not think of anything to take up her time. She groaned as she fell onto her back. However, as her body met the floor, she heard a knock on her door-- or rather, somepony was rapidly attacking her door to no end. "ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, I GOT IT!" Bon Bon shouted, exiting her room and making her way down the stairs towards the front door. Angrily, she swung the door open, and there stood a rather energetic aquamarine colored pony, who was still shaking her right hoof back and forth in a knocking motion. Unfortunately for Bon Bon, because the door was no longer in front of the crazy pony's hoof, Bon Bon's head became the new punching bag. "Ow, ow, ow, ow!" Bon Bon shouted. "Would you stop that?!" Suddenly, the other mare obeyed and bobbed her head up and down repeatedly. Bon Bon rubbed her blue and pink mane in an attempt to soothe the pain. She took a peek up to get a good glance at the mare standing right in front of her-- something she had not been able to do because she was practically being beaten up. The moment Bon Bon's eyes met the mares', she gasped. "Diiiidja miss me?" Lyra Heartstrings is a shy little pony-- or rather, was a timid pony. When she was in grade school, she'd always get bullied by her classmates who'd constantly tease her. "Ew, blank flank!" "Heartstrings? How cheesy!" "And just what is *your special talent supposed to be? Playing something as simple as that strange contraption on your flank?"* "Where are you friends, Barfstrings? Oh yeah! You don't have any!" Those were the types of insults that were thrown at poor Lyra. It wasn't like she was the only blank flank, however. Most ponies didn't get their cutie marks until their fifth year of grade school. She disliked having bullies go out of their way to purposely harass her. She especially hated it when she actually did get her cutie mark, the tormentors began making fun of her for being who she was. Finally, when she reached middle school, she figured the harassment would stop. It didn't-- or at least, not until Bon Bon stepped into the picture. At first glance, Lyra thought that Bon Bon seemed like nothing but an ordinary pony who, most likely, butted in simply for the sake of wanting to help Lyra out because she was tired of seeing her around. However, Lyra was soon proved wrong. Bon Bon appeared to be a rather nerdy pony due to her somewhat nasally voice, her pink and blue mane, and finally, because of her silly name. Though despite this, she was one heck of a fighter-- or at least, that was how Lyra saw her. Needless to say, when Bon Bon came to help Lyra, the latter pony learned a couple of new words that day. Nevertheless, the aquamarine pony was incredibly grateful for her help. The week after, Bon Bon approached Lyra. It was at that moment when Lyra felt a certain click between them. She wasn't quite sure why, though. Her heart rate began to speed up a little bit, and she felt like she could no longer stuff another daisy into her mouth without regurgitating it. Bon Bon stuck out a hoof for Lyra to shake. It was evident that she wanted to become friends. Without a moment's worth of hesitation, Lyra went out and gently took the hoof. That was the beginning of their friendship. For the rest of middle school, nopony ever bugged Lyra again-- especially not when she was in Bon Bon's presence. The two were left alone to share their laughs together, cry through their hard times, eat all their fears away, and sleep their worries away. In other words, they were absolutely inseparable... until one day, Lyra had some bad news. She was moving. The sky blue maned mare could clearly remember the reaction she had received from her best friend that day. It was excruciatingly painful to see Bon Bon look so tearfully sad. The two embraced each other for the last time in... who knew how long? Every day after Lyra's departure, she couldn't help but think about her friend. It had frightened her to know how much she cared for her. But at that point, something hit her. Just why were her feelings towards Bon Bon so strong? Why did she care so much? Why did it hurt so much to leave Bon Bon anyway? It felt like every day that passed by was another day she had to live on feeling incredibly lonely to the point where she even refused to befriend other ponies. It soon became apparent to herself that she didn't want to befriend anypony else. She didn't want to get as close to anypony else as she was with Bon Bon. By then, another realization attacked her mind. A possibility she had overlooked before. Something that she was somewhat afraid of. The truth in which she was previously unable to handle... She was in love with Bon Bon. Ever since the first day they became friends, she felt her heart racing, her face turning red, butterflies fluttering around in her stomach and flipping it upside down. A crush-- no, strong feelings for her best friend. It didn't take Lyra more than five minutes to clasp these feelings in her hooves and bring them to her heart. She had accepted them immediately. At that moment, she swore that when she was older and had enough money, she'd return back to Ponyville, the place where the one she loved lived. Bon Bon was the one pony who helped Lyra out. In other words, she was her 'prince', a knight in shining armor, even. She wanted to relay these feelings to Bon Bon at any cost. After a few years of education and working, Lyra was able to save up enough bits to move. Lyra was super excited for the trip. Finally, the day she had been waiting for for years. When Lyra got back to Ponyville, the first thing she did was visit Bon Bon's house. She stood outside of the door, and gulped. This was it. She knocked on the door about a hundred times. Lyra was not exactly the best at concealing her enthusiasm. Within a few seconds, she heard a loud scream of irritation coming from the other side of the door that acknowledged her presence. Suddenly, the door swung open and revealed an agitated Bon Bon. Lyra continued to stand there speechlessly. With her face turning red and her mind boggling, a dumb and wide smile crept upon Lyra's face. Oh Bon Bon, how I've missed you so much! //-------------------------------------------------------// I - A Tearful Reunion (Or Not) //-------------------------------------------------------// I - A Tearful Reunion (Or Not) I - A Tearful Reunion (Or Not) "Whoaaa! So this is what Brainy Bon Bon's room looks like now! ... Why is it so tiny? You STILL have those little toys hanging around in your bookshelf? Wait a minute, is that a picture of Mareie Curie stuck to your wall? Geez, you really are a nerd!" Lyra exclaimed while bouncing around Bon Bon's room. Bon Bon arched an eyebrow at the mare that acted as if she had too many cups of coffee that morning. Really though, in all honesty, Bon Bon was beyond confused. Only a minute ago, the two were standing at her front doorstep, and the next, the strange sky blue maned mare was hopping around in her room... Sure, that was all strange to Bon Bon, however, what freaked her out even more was... JUST WHAT, IN CELESTIA'S BEARD, WAS THE LYRA HEARTSTRINGS DOING IN HER BEDROOM?! Bon Bon's left eye twitched. There must've been some mistake. There was NO way that the Lyra Heartstrings, a famous model, knew somepony as ordinary as... Bon Bon. Not only that, but Lyra even went as far as to burst into Bon Bon's room and comment on every single little detail as if... she had been in her room before. She stared at Lyra for a moment. "Wait, um... How do you know me?" Bon Bon questioned. Lyra flinched. She spun around to face Bon Bon and trotted up towards her until they were only a nose away. Bon Bon instantly began to feel the blood rushing to her head. Lyra looked a hell of a lot cuter up close. It took a couple of seconds before Bon Bon was taken back into reality. A model-- no, a supermodel, was in her room, acting as if they were long lost best friends. "Geez, you're acting really distant, you know," Lyra mumbled as she backed away from the pink and blue maned mare. When Lyra caught a glimpse of Bon Bon's puzzled face, she sighed. "I'm Lyra! Lyra Heartstrings! Best friends since middle school? Come on, we met each other only like, what, seven years ago?" Bon Bon let this information ease into her brain as she began to dig for memories of Lyra. Search took one second. "Lyra? ... Wait a minute, I thought you moved?" Bon Bon asked intelligently, not even bothering for a second to consider the many different answers Lyra could respond with. Lyra giggled. "Whoa, Brainy Bon Bon. I did move, but obviously, I came back! See?" the aquamarine pony replied. She proceeded to make funny faces at Bon Bon to prove to her that she was real. Bon Bon peered around, hoping that nopony was in the vicinity, watching Lyra go crazy with her face. "Yeah, um, don't ever do that again," Bon Bon requested whilst chuckling nervously. Lyra bobbed her head up and down, expressing her obedience. Bon Bon sighed. "So... what brings you here anyway?" Instantly, the light blue maned pony jumped up in excitement and began bouncing around the room again. "Well, you see, I've missed you SO much! Like, can you imagine? We've been apart from each other for nearly five years! That's approximately 1825 days, you know! I really really really wanted to see you again, Bon Bon. We have so much to catch up on!" Bon Bon cringed at the idea of having spend her time, catching up with a pony who had the attention span of a squirrel. Frankly, Bon Bon was one of those ponies who cherished peace and quiet. Judging by what she has seen of Lyra... well, Lyra was simply the opposite of that. "O-oh, but alas, I have other things to do!" Bon Bon lied. Alas? she thought to herself. Lyra continued to grin at her. "No problem!" she exclaimed. Bon Bon gaped at the model standing in front of her in surprise. Huh, so she ISN'T as clingy as I thought she'd be. "I'll just tag along!" Almost instantly, Bon Bon did a cartoon-like fall, with her face hitting the floor first. "Are you kidding me? Do you just plan to follow me everywhere I go?" she asked, agitated. Lyra nodded without a moment's worth of hesitation. Bon Bon facehoofed herself. "Oh Celestia... Why?" At that point, Bon Bon noticed Lyra attempting to conceal her laughter. "Come on, Brainy Bon Bon! You need to step up your game!" she teased. Lyra proceeded to walk towards Bon Bon once more. This time, the cream colored mare backed up with every step Lyra took. "I did say I missed you, right? It's been so many years. It was hard without you! I spent the past five years, studying and working my flank off so I could travel to Ponyville alone to meet you once again, and now you're acting all distant!" Lyra's voice began to crack, as if she were ready to cry. "You see, the thing is..." she gulped. At this point, Bon Bon's flank met with the desk beside her, causing her to stumble backwards and directly into the wall behind her. Bon Bon fell down to the ground, but much to her dismay, Lyra followed her. "I..." Lyra choked. Bon Bon could clearly see up close that Lyra's eyes were welling up with tears. The blue and pink maned pony began to feel guilty about not treating her old friend properly, especially since she went well out of her way to meet Bon Bon again. She sighed, and offered Lyra a warm smile. "Um, Lyra, you don't have to continue if you don't want to," Bon Bon forced a chuckle in an attempt to reassure her friend. The aquamarine pony looked up and stared straight into Bon Bon's eyes, which caused the latter pony to blush furiously. Lyra's eyes were a perfect shade of yellow. "L-Lyra? You're a little too close!" Lyra shook her head, fanning her tears in the process. She gave Bon Bon a hearty grin, and hugged her. "No, I think I have to continue!" Lyra giggled. "You just reminded me of why I came to Ponyville in the first place!" Huh? Didn't she already tell me the reason, though? Bon Bon thought to herself, confused. Finally, Lyra released their embrace. She took a deep breath in, and exhaled. "You've always been there for me, you know! Protecting me from those bullies and helping me speak when I was shy. You've helped me a ton! I don't think I'd be where I am now without you! Bon Bon, I-I think-- wait, no, I'm sure that... I love you!" As soon as the heartfelt words escaped from Lyra's mouth, she immediately leaned in and placed her lips on Bon Bon's, much to the latter pony's surprise. Even though Bon Bon was somewhat freaked out by this, she was shocked to find that she made no attempt to push Lyra away. Soon, she released the tension she was bottling up a moment ago, and gave into the kiss.
