Musings

As I sat down on the bed, again, the... normalcy and how domestic everything was. It... it didn't sit right, somehow.

Again, the nagging feeling wormed its way into my head.

"You're not supposed to be here."

It hurt; here I was, in this happy place-- a place that... well, I assumed, anyway-- I'd always wanted to be. And yet, with all my personal memories gone, I felt a constant pain that I belonged to that other place from whence I knew I came.

And even though the pony body I'd obtained had its benefits, to be sure, I'd lost the tag that would have singled me out as individual, and yet, as part of a larger group. I wasn't human anymore. So... what was I? I... I felt as if I didn't belong anywhere, have any purpose--almost.

Luna saved me from that raft. That was my purpose; handle my responsibilities to the night princess. And... it wasn't only that. She wasn't just someone to obey, but someone I could confide in. Someone to talk to about anything. As friendly and cordial as all the mares were, I was by nature a private pers... pony. I almost chuckled to myself. Gotta fix that grammar. And wow, did I mess that up *a lot** the past few minutes...* Despite my bond with Luna, it still hurt to not know my past or fit in under any real categories. In time, in time, I assured myself. You just got here, it'll take a little while longer to establish yourself.

My short but powerful muse done, I figured I'd go help Rarity with whatever work she was doing. She told me she wasn't, but I didn't believe it...

Having found my way to the fashionista's studio, someplace I honestly hoped I didn't have to learn much from, I'd walked in unnoticed.

"Got anything that I could help with?" I asked, a faint smirk on my features. She jumped a little, startled.

"Oh! Well, um, no, not really..." She saw the look on my face, and gave in a little, seeing she had no hope of avoiding a helping... hoof, she continued, "Maybe..." She caved. "Yes." And so, there began that stint of work.

"That should do it," Rarity declared. It had been about two hours, most of it just carrying things to their designated location so that she could be more productive. She turned to me. "Thanks for your help. You did just as good of a job, if not better than, Spike. Poor thing seems to be so distracted when he's here..."

It took almost every ounce of willpower to manage a straight face.. I wonder why.

"Anyhow, since you've been so busy today, I'll let you go ahead and wash up. This way," she finished off in a sing-song tone, leading me to... well, it was a bathroom.

It looked like it belonged in a Canterlot spa, though. It had the large, pool-like tub (with a shower head moseying its way up and out over the middle), and certainly every care product that could be acquired. The knowledge of what each of these were was lost on me.

"Umm..." I didn't really know what to ask.

"Yes, I know. Let me just put the ones that you may find to your fancy over here..." Rarity levitated a few of the assorted bottles off to the side.

"Thanks," I said, genuinely appreciative.

"Not a problem," said the white mare, beginning to walk away. I closed the door and, well, bathed. What else?

It was probably 11:30 by now. Rarity'd been doting on my insomnia earlier, and I told her to stop her worry and retire; I'd be fine. It took some doing, but she eventually obliged. I had no reason to be so sleepless; I'd had enough exercise today to tire anyone...anypony. I had reason to suspect the amulet, but seeing as the thing is bound to me and it managed to manifest itself in my dream last night without any contact with it, I could only assume its powers were not exclusively available to when I had it on. I decided to step onto a balcony to look up at the stars...

The sky was clear tonight, the wind was cool, there were faint signs of moisture in the air, and I was fairly sure the weather would be fair in the morning as well.

Wait, what? Where'd that all come from? Pegasus instinct? Magic? What?

To pacify myself, I said I'd ask Dash in the morning. As for the sky...

I saw none of the usual constellations I was accustomed to, which was only to be expected, having no idea where I was located in the massive expanse of space. Not truly looking for anything in particular, I let my eyes wander...

A short stint of about fifteen minutes or so left me a little wearied of a diversion such as this, and I sat down on a chair. The light stemming from the curtained windows was almost blinding. Having realized this, I noticed just how stunningly my eyes had adjusted, I could see the whole countryside in a light completely operable by, with but a waning moon of less than half. This, again, was probably attributable to the amulet, but who could be sure?

It was about 2 o'clock (AM, of course) when drowsiness finally crept up on me. I barely noticed it, until it sucker-punched me across the face and nearly dropped me flat. I shambled in to my small bed, falling asleep almost instantly....
