The Mare in the Moon

Twilight looked up from the book she was reading and said, "Hmm. Elements of Harmony. I know I have heard of those before, but where?" She rose from the ground and placed the book in her bag. She had decided to go to the library to find where she’d heard of the “Elements of Harmony.” She walked down the road mulling it over in her mind.

Lost in thought Twilight didn't see the three ponies that were stopped in front of her. The one in the middle said to her, "There you are Twilight. Moon Dancer is having a little get together in the west castle courtyard. You wanna come?"

"Oh sorry girls I have a lot of studying to catch up on," Twilight replied glancing at the book sitting in her book bag. She looked up and flashed the ponies a sheepish smile before running off down the road. She did not hear them say, "Does that pony do anything except study? I think she is more interested in books than friends."

Twilight continued down the road still lost in her thoughts and saying to herself, "I know I have heard of the Elements of Harmony." Still pondering where she’d heard of them, she ran right past two ponies on the bridge, one of them waving at her, and became shocked when she  almost ran past her and right into the library.

Spike was knocked back as Twilight threw open the door of the library. Twilight looked around and yelled, “Spike. Spike. Spike?” She looked down and spotted Spike on the floor. “Ah. There you are,” she said, “Quick. Find me that old copy of Prediction and Prophecies.” Twilight stopped and looked confused when she saw the present impaled by Spike's Tail, then asked, "What's that for?"

Spike grabbed the present off of his tail and replied, "Well, it was a gift for Moon Dancer but."

Twilight knocked books off a stack of a neatly stacked pile with her snout stating, "Oh Spike. You know we don't have time for that sort of thing."

"But we're on a break," replied Spike.

Twilight looked at a book on a ground, decided to get her magic aura started and then pulled books off of the shelves stating while she looked at the books she pulled off, "No, no, no, no, no." Noticing she hasn’t gotten anywhere, she frustratingly stated, "Spike!"

"It's over here" replied Spike, before Twilight used her magic and pulled the book to her with Spike still attached. There was an audible crack as Spike connected with the floor from his drop from the ladder.

"Ah" Twilight replied before taking the book over to pedestal to set it down and opened it up. Spike looked at all the books that Twilight had dropped when taking the book from him and looked disappointed but picked them up and put them back.

"Elements, Elements, E, E, E, ah ha. Elements of Harmony, see Mare in the Moon?" Twilight quizzically replied.

"Mare in the Moon? But that's just an old pony tale," said Spike as he climbed up a ladder to put the books away. "Mare, Mare ah ha. The Mare in the Moon. Myth from olden pony times. A powerful pony who wanted to rule Equestria, defeated by the Elements of Harmony and imprisoned in the Moon. Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousand year,the stars will aid in her escape,and she will bring night time Eternal!" Twilight Exclaimed. Spike while still on the ladder had accidentally pushed the ladder so it was straight up and down while he was putting books away.

"Spike do you know what this means?" Asked Twilight.

"No," replied Spike before pushing the ladder out from under and said while he fell, "whoa" before smacking on Twilight's back Then "ow."

Twilight holding her tail out like a ramp said, "take a note please. To the Princess."

"Okie dokie" replied Spike as he was getting ready to write what Twilight tells him too.

"My Dearest Teacher. My continuing studies of Pony Magic have led me to discover that we are on the precipice of disaster!" Twilight stated.

"Hold on, preci, preci," confused Spike replied before staring at Twilight.

"Threshold," replied Twilight.

"Thre," replied Spike before he stared at Twilight again.

"Uh brink?" asked Twilight. Spike just stared at Twilight dumbfounded. "Ugh. That something really bad is about to happen." Spike understood this went back to writing what Twilight was said. Twilight stated while pacing around the room, "For you see the Mythical Mare in the Moon is in fact Nightmare Moon, and bring with her eternal night. Something must be done to make sure this terrible prophecy does not come true. I await your quick response. Your faithful student Twilight Sparkle."

"Twilight Sparkle. There got it!" exclaimed Spike.

"Great. Send it," Twilight replied.

"Now?" asked Spike.

"Of course," Twilight replied with uncertainty to Spike.

"Uh. I don't know Twilight. Princess Celestia is a little busy getting ready for the Summer Sun Celebration, and it's like the day after tomorrow," Spike replied.

"That's just it Spike. The day after tomorrow is the the thousandth year of the Summer Sun Celebration. It's imperative that the Princess is told right away," Twilight stated.

"Impera... impera," stated Spike confused.

"Important!" stated Twilight very loudly. Loud enough to knock Spike back in to a book stand that knocked a couple of books to the ground, and one on top of Spike.

Spike got up and replied, "Okay. Okay." Taking the scroll, he rolled it up and then blew fire that turned it to smoke and sent it to Princess Celestia. "There it's on its way, but I wouldn't hold your breath." Spike said.

"Oh, I'm not worried Spike. The Princess trusts me completely. In all the years she has been my mentor she's has never once doubted me," Twilight replied confidently. Twilight stood in front of Spike, Spike's cheeks became puffed up before he belched some smoke forward that turned into a scroll that stopped in front of Twilight's face before the scroll fell to the ground. "See. I knew she would want to take immediate action." Twilight said confidently before Twilight walked over to the window. Spike picking up the scroll, and opened it cleared his throat and then read out loud what it said.

"My dearest most faithful student Twilight. You know I value your diligence and that I trust you completely.

"Hearing this Twilight lifted her cheek higher than the horizon saying, "Mm-hm."

"...but you simply must stop reading those dusty old books." Spike read loudly. Twilight Heard this and gasped.

"My dear Twilight. There is more to a young pony's life than studying, so I am sending you to supervise the Summer Sun Celebration in this year location: Ponyville. And I have an even more essential task for you to complete, make some friends! PS. I have sent someone along to meet you at the Library where you will be staying," Spike finished on a carriage pulled by two Royal Guards.Twilight sighed and Spike stated, "Look on the bright side Twilight. The Princess arranged for you to stay in a Library. Doesn't that make you happy?"

"Yes, yes it does. Do you know why? Cause I'm right. I'll check on the preparations as fast as I can, then get to the Library to find some proof of Nightmare Night's return," replied Twilight happily.

"Then when would you make friend like the princess said?" Spike asked.

"She said to check on the preparations. I am her student and I will do my royal duty, but the fate of Equestria does not rest on me making friends." Said Twilight as the carriage landed on the ground and the two Royal Guard Ponies that were pulling it whinnied. Twilight got out of the carriage said to them, "Thank you kind sirs." They huffed when they heard it.

Spike saw a pony coming down the road said, "Maybe the ponies in Ponyville have interesting things to talk about. Come on, Twilight, just try." With a Pink Pony that stopped in front of them.

Twilight shyly said, "Um... Hello?" The Pink Pony made a prolonged gasp and took off running. "Well, that was interesting all right." Twilight said. Spike sighed at this, before they started to walk along the road.

Spike pulled out the checklist and something to write with, before Spike read to Twilight the list, "The Summer Sun Celebration Official Overseer's Checklist. Number One, banquet preparations Sweet Apple Acres."

Upon entering in through the Front Gate Twilight and Spike heard an Orange pony yell, "Yee-haw" while running before turning around and kicked a tree. Apples had fallen from the tree into buckets that were already placed on the ground. The Orange pony crossed one front leg over the other. Twilight lowered her head almost to the ground and sighed before Twilight said, "Let's get this over with." Twilight and Spike had walked over to the Orange pony when Twilight introduced herself, "Good Afternoon. My name is Twilight Sparkle."

Twilight got a look of uncertainty on her face when the Orange pony started shaking her hoof fast and hard saying, "Well howdy-doo Miss Twilight, a pleasure making your acquaintance. I'm Applejack. We here at Sweet Apple Acres sure do like making new friends."

"Friends? Actually I...," Twilight said even though it was slightly stuttered due to being shaken so hard. Applejack let go of Twilight hoof, with Twilight's leg still being shaken by an invisible force till Spike grabbed her leg and then snickered. Twilight looked at Spike slightly annoyed, before Twilight cleared her throat and said to Applejack, "Well I am here to supervise the preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration. And you're in charge of catering?"

"We sure as sugar are. Would you care to sample some?" Applejack replied.

"As long as it doesn't take too long," Twilight said.

Applejack ran to a hanging triangle with a spoon and hit it yelling, "Soups on every pony!" Twilight and Spike turned their heads around to see a lot of ponies coming to them before being knocked over to a table. Applejack was at the table next to them and said, "Now, why don't I introduce you to the Apple Family."

"Thanks but I really need to hurr-," Twilight said til she was cut off by Applejack introducing the family. "This here's Apple Fritter." Apple Fritter held some food before dropping it down on the table along with everyone else. "Apple Bumpkin. Red Gala. Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Caramel Apple, Apple Strudel, Apple Tart, Baked Apples, Apple Brioche, Apple Cinnamon Crisp" Applejack said before taking a deep breath and continuing. "Big McIntosh" holding a cupcake on his head. "Apple Bloom" holding a pie on her back. "And" before Applejack put an Apple in Twilight's mouth "Granny Smith. Up an at them, Granny Smith, we got guests."

Granny Smith who was sleeping on rocking chair woke up saying, "Wha..? Soup's on? I'm up, here I come, ahm comin" Granny Smith walked over to the rest of the family saying that.

Applejack puts a hoof around Twilight saying, "Why, I say you're already part of the family."

Twilight who still had the apple in her mouth, spat all of it out and then laughing nervously before replying, "Okay, well I can see the the food situation is handled, so we'll be on our way."

The whole Apple family gets a sad look on their face while they looked at Twilight and Apple Bloom asked, "Aren't you going to stay for brunch?" with a sad look in her eyes.

"Sorry, but we have a lot to do,"  Twilight replied. All the Apple family in unison made a disappointed sigh and lowered their heads. "Fine," Twilight said after a few seconds of seeing them all sad. The family cheered upon hearing Twilight would stay. Twilight and Spike ate brunch with the Apple family and then Twilight and Spike traveled down the road to Ponyville.

Spike looked at the list saying, "Food's all taken care of, next is weather."

Spike looked back at Twilight who is walking slower and has her head down stated, "Ugh... I ate to much Pie."

Spike looked up at the sky and said, "Hmm. There's suppose to be a Pegasus pony named Rainbow Dash clearing the clouds."

Twilight looking up around the sky and seeing clouds replied, "Well she isn't doing a very good job is she." As Twilight finished saying that, Twilight was knocked into a puddle of mud along with a Blue pony. "Ngh." was the noise Twilight made after she landed in a puddle of mud.

The Blue pony got up and looked back and gave a sheepish laughter saying, "Uh, scuse me." giving another sheepish laughter after that.

"Nnnn." was made by Twilight.

After the Blue pony laughed again the Blue pony said, "Lemme help you." then took off. Twilight sat up and looked the direction the Blue pony took off, Twilight saw the Blue pony came back with a small grey cloud who put it right above her. Blue pony then got on top of the cloud, and then started jumping up and down on the cloud and cause water to come down on to Twilight. The Blue pony jumped up and down till there was no water left turning the cloud white.

Blue pony peered over the edge of the cloud and saw Twilight soaking wet and gave another sheepish laughter saying, "Oops. I guess I overdid it. Um, uh, how about this." The Blue pony got off the cloud and started to fly around Twilight making a rainbow of colors around Twilight that took away all the water while saying, "My very own patented Rain-Blow-Dry.” The Blue pony finished and was facing the away from Twilight. Turning around and flew to the ground with her eyes closed saying, "No, no. Don't thank me. You're quite welcome." The Blue pony opened her eyes to see Twilight's hair all funny. She tried to hold back from laughing causing tears of laughter to come to her eyes, and then unable to hold it any longer burst out laughing and fell to the ground. Spike saw the same sight and burst out laughing as well, landing on the Blue pony.

"Let me guess. You're Rainbow Dash," Twilight said with a cocked eyebrow. Rainbow Dash heard her name and stopped laughing and opened her eyes before Rainbow Dash stood quickly knocking Spike off her.

"The one and only," Rainbow Dash said. Rainbow Dash flew up and came face to face with Twilight with only inches between them. "Why, you heard of me?"

Rainbow Dash pulled back as Twilight spoke, "I heard you were suppose to keep the sky clear." Twilight sighed and then introduce herself, "I'm Twilight Sparkle, and the Princess sent me to check on the weather." Rainbow Dash had flown up and laid down on her back, on a cloud while Twilight was introducing herself.

"Yeah, yeah that'll be a snap. I'll do it in a jiffy, just as soon as I'm done practicing," Rainbow Dash replied.

"Practicing for what?" Twilight asked.

Rainbow Dash had turned around and pointed to a poster with pictures of ponies on it while saying with a lot of enthusiasm, "The Wonderbolts! They're gonna perform at the Celebration tomorrow" doing a couple spins through the air while she continued saying, "and I'm gonna show em my stuff!" landing on a cloud as she finished and laid down on her back.

"The Wonderbolts?" Twilight asked.

"Yep," Rainbow Dash replied.

"The most talented flyers in all of Equestria?" Twilight asked.

"That's them," Rainbow Dash replied.

"Pfft. Please," Twilight said and Rainbow Dash turned around and was on her back hooves after hearing that . "They'd never accept a Pegasus who can't even can't even keep the sky clear for one measly day." Twilight continued saying.

"Hey, I could clear this sky in ten seconds flat." Rainbow Dash replied.

"Prove it." Twilight challenged. Rainbow Dash started to fly very quickly to clouds and kicked them.

While doing this Rainbow Dash made exertion noises and upon coming to the last few clouds said, "Loop the loop around, and wham! What I say?" Landing on the a side of the bridge and continue what she was saying, "Ten. Seconds. Flat. I'd never leave Ponyville hanging." Spike and Twilight had looks of shock on their faces. Rainbow Dash chuckled making Spike close his mouth and look at Twilight, Rainbow Dash said, "You should see the look on your face. Ha! You're a laugh Twilight Sparkle," Rainbow Dash flew right next to Twilight before saying, "I can't wait to hang out some more." Twilight closed her mouth when Rainbow Dash said that then watched Rainbow Dash fly away, and hear Spike say, "Wow." Spike and Twilight looked at each other and Spike said, "She's amazing!"

Spike patted Twilight's tail and laughed, making Twilight make a "Rrgh" sound, before walking towards the Town Hall. Spike followed her saying,"Wait! It's kinda pretty when you get use to it."

Spike and Twilight walked in the door of the Town hall and stopped to let Spike write something on the list and say, "Decorations. Beautiful," as he noticed something of beauty.

"Yes, the decor is coming along nicely. This outta be quick. I'll be in the library in no time. Beautiful indeed," Twilight replied.

"Not the decor, her!" Spike said pointing to a White pony.

"No, no, no, oh! Goodness no," The White pony said. The White pony had different color ribbons floating in front of her one at a time trying to find the right color.

"How are my Spines? Are they straight?" Spike asked, Twilight rolled her eyes when she heard that before they walked over to the White pony.

"Good Afternoon." Twilight said to the White pony.

"Just a moment please I'm in the zone as it were Oh, yes! Sparkle always does the trick. Does it not?" The White pony said deciding on a red sparkly ribbon. "Why Rarity you are a talent," Rarity finished before turning around and saying, "Now, um, how can I help yo-," before yelping when Rarity noticed Twilight's hair. "Oh my stars darling! What ever happened to your coiffure?" Rarity asked.

"Oh, you mean my mane? Well it's a long story. I'm just here to check on the decorations, then I'll be out of your hair," Twilight replied.

"Out of my hair? What about your hair?" Rarity asked before getting behind Twilight and pushed her.

"Wait! Where are we going? Help!" Twilight said with Spike following them close behind in a trance. They went out the door of the Town Hall to Rarity's place which wasn't far away.

Rarity had Twilight try on different outfits saying, "No, no, uh-uh. Too green. Too yellow. Too poofy. Not poofy enough. Too frilly. Too... shiny." Coming across this white outfit that had gems all around it and one big emerald in the front. Rarity said, "Now go on dear. You were telling me where you're from," then grabbed two straps on the outfit and pulled them to tighten the outfit.

Twilight winced from the pressure and said, "I've... been sent... from... Canterlot... to..."

Rarity heard this and opened her eyes, and let go off the straps sending them both tumbling in different directions while saying, "Huh?" Rarity got up and said, "Canterlot?" Rarity walked over to Twilight and said, "I am so envious! The glamour, the sophistication! I have always dreamed of living there! I can't wait to hear all about it! We are going to be the best of friends, you and I." Rarity looked at the front of the outfit said, "Emeralds? What was I thinking? Let me get you some Rubies!" taking off after saying that. Taking off the outfit and picking up Spike Twilight said, "Quick! Before she decides to dye my coat a new color!" and then ran out the front door with a tranced Dragon on her back.

While walking down the road Spike said, "Wasn't she wonderful?"

"Focus Casanova." Twilight said snapping Spike out of his trance. "What's next on the list?" Twilight asked.

Spike lifted the list, that never left his hand, up and cleared his throat before saying, "Music. It's the last one." Twilight stopped after hearing music, before they looked at each other. Poking their heads through a bush and saw a Yellow pony in mid air by a tree, with birds on it chirping the music they were hearing.

They heard the Yellow pony say, "Oh my. Um, stop please, everyone. Um." The pony then flew to the tree and said to a blue bird, "Excuse me, sir? I mean, no offense, but your rhythm is just a teeny-tiny bit off." The pony then flew back to earlier spot and said, "Now, follow me, please. A one, a two, a one two three..."

"Hello!" Yelled Twilight, scaring all the birds, and caused the Yellow pony to yelp. "Oh, my, I am so sorry, I didn't mean to frighten your birds. I was just sent to check up on the music and it's sounding beautiful," Twilight said, to the Yellow pony as she floated down, landing when Twilight finished. Twilight gave an awkward smile and the Yellow pony shifted nervously, during a pause where nothing was said. Twilight said, "I'm Twilight Sparkle." and another paused occurred till Twilight asked, "What's your name?"

The Yellow pony said very quietly, "Um... I'm Fluttershy."

"I'm sorry, what was that?" Twilight asked.

"Um... My name is Fluttershy," The Yellow pony said even quieter and moved backwards and bent her knees getting closer to the ground.

"Didn't quite catch that." Twilight said while taking a step forward. The Yellow pony then just squeaked something. Twilight said, "Well, um..." and after seeing the birds started to come back to the tree, she continued, "It looks like you birds are back, so I guess everything's in order. Keep up the good work." The Yellow pony then squeaked something again. "Oookay." Twilight said. Twilight turned around as Spike came out of the brush, and said to Spike, "Well that was easy."

The Yellow pony saw Twilight talk to Spike started to hover over the ground and gasped before exclaiming,  "A Baby Dragon!" Then bolted over there in front of Spike, and knocked Twilight out of the way. The Yellow pony stated, "I have never seen a Baby Dragon. He's sooo cute!"

Spike turned his head, and looked at Twilight on the ground and said, "Well, well, well."

Spike looked back at the Yellow pony who said, "Oh my, he talks. I didn't know dragons could talk. That's so incredibly wonderful, I just don't even know what to say." Twilight had gotten up and already walked around the two.

After the Yellow pony finished Twilight levitated Spike to her back with her magic and said, "Well, in that case we'd better be going." The Yellow pony walked over to them and then followed them as they walked, saying, "Wait, wait! What's his name?"

"I'm Spike" Spike told the Yellow pony.

"Hi Spike, I'm Fluttershy. Wow, a talking Dragon! And what do Dragons talk about?" Fluttershy asked Spike, which Spike replied, "Well, what do wanna know?"

Fluttershy replied, "Absolutely everything." Upon hearing this Twilight's eyes got big for a second before Twilight rolled her eyes and groaned.

Spike told his story to Fluttershy. "Well I started out as a cute green and purple egg." Spike had gone on to talk about everything, "And that's the story of my whole entire life! Well, up until today. Do you wanna hear about today?"

"Oh, yes. Please!" Fluttershy happily replied.

"Gyah!" Spike said as Twilight turned around very fast.

"I am so sorry, how did we get here so fast? This is where I'm staying while in Ponyville and my poor baby dragon needs his sleep." Twilight said to Fluttershy.

Spike replying, "No I don't. Whoa" saying the last word when Twilight tossed him off her back.

Twilight lowered her head down to Spike, then said, "Aww, wook at dat, he's so sweepy he can't even keep his widdle bawance!" Twilight gave a fake smile to Fluttershy after she finished.

Fluttershy quickly scooped up Spike saying, "Poor thing, you simply must get into bed." Fluttershy flew in the front door and Twilight chased after them getting Spike on the floor and pushed Fluttershy out the front door saying, "Yes, yes, we'll get right on that. Well, g'night!" slammed it shut after she finished. Fluttershy stared at the door for a couple of seconds before she flew up and in through a window.

In the pitch blackness Spike said, "Huh. Rude much?"

Twilight replied "Sorry, Spike, but I have to convince the Princess that Nightmare Moon is coming, and we're running out of time! I just need to be alone so I can study without a bunch of crazy ponies trying to make friends all the time. Now, where's the light?"

The lights flicked on and both Twilight and Spike gasped at all the ponies who yelled, "SURPISE!" Twilight then groaned afterwards.

A Pink pony appeared in front of Twilight saying, "Hi, I'm Pinkie Pie, and I threw this party just for you! Were you surprised? Were ya? Were ya? Huh huh huh?"

"Very surprised. Libraries are suppose to be quiet!" Twilight replied.

"Well, that's silly!" Pinkie Pie said and, caused Twilight to shake her head, and roll her eyes. "What kind of welcome party would this be if it were quiet? I mean, duh, bo-ring!" Pinkie Pie said. Twilight started walking, and Pinkie Pie followed continuing what she was saying, "Y'see, I saw you when you first got here, remember? You were all "hello" and I was all *deep gasp*, remember? Y'see I've never saw you before and if I've never saw you before that means you're new, 'cause I know everypony, and I mean everypony in Ponyville!" Twilight groaned at the amount Pinkie Pie can talk. Pinkie Pie said, "And if you're new, that meant you haven't met anyone yet..." Twilight grabbed a Red bottle, and started to pour the liquid inside the bottle into a cup. "and if you haven't met anyone yet, you must not have any friends, and if you don't have any friends then you must be lonely, and that made me so sad, then I had an idea, and that's why I went *deep gasp*!" Pinkie Pie continued. Twilight set the bottle down and started to drink while Pinkie Pie said, "I must throw a great big ginormous super-duper spectacular welcome party and invite everyone in Ponyville!" Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, and Rarity came over to Pinkie Pie and Pinkie Pie said, "See? And now you have lots and lots of friends!" Twilight turned around with puffed cheeks and tears streamed down her face.

Applejack noticed her face and asked, "Are you alright Sugarcube?"

Twilight took off up the stairs and Pinkie Pie said, "Aww. She's so happy she's crying." Spike walked up to the table and grabbed the Red bottle.

Noticing the label Spike said, "Hot sauce." Pinkie Pie tipped the bottle so it poured on to a Cupcake while Spike said, "Ooh." Pinkie Pie grabbed the Cupcake and tossed the whole thing in her mouth.

Pinkie Pie said with her mouth full, "What? It's good!" Twilight had gone to her room after she spat out the Hot sauce. Lying on her bed with a Pillow on top of her head. Twilight lifted her head and looked at the clock and, groaned after she did. Spike opened the door and the music from the party became louder. Spike said to Twilight, "Hey Twilight! Pinkie Pie's starting pin the tail on the pony! Wanna play?"

"No! All the ponies in this town are crazy! Do you know what time it is?!" Twilight replied.

"It's the eve of the Summer Sun Celebration. Everypony has to stay up, or they'll miss the Princess raise the sun! You really should lighten up, Twilight. It's a party!" Spike said then walked out and closed the door. Twilight mockingly imitated Spike before rolling over and pulled the pillow from her head to her chest. "Ugh, here I thought I'd have time to learn about the Elements of Harmony but, silly me, all this ridiculous friend-making has kept me from it!" Twilight said to herself, then rolled over to her side facing a window. Twilight stared at the moon before she got up and walked over to the window, levitating the book “Predictions and Prophecies”.

Twilight said, "Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about everlasting night." I hope the Princess was right. I hope it really is just an old pony tale."

"Twilight?" came a voice from the corner of the room.

Twilight turned around very quickly saying, "Who's there?"

The voice said, "I am the person you were to meet at the Library. However, it looks like that will have to wait."

The door opened up and Spike came through saying, "C'mon, Twilight, it's time to watch the sunrise!" Twilight didn't see the voice but was curious about it. Every pony in Ponyville came together at the Town Hall, waiting for the Sun to rise. Twilight was somewhere in the middle-front, and Pinkie Pie came over saying, "Isn't this exciting? Right afterwards fanfare was heard by Fluttershy's birds.

A spotlight came down on a Tan pony, and the Tan pony said to everyone, "Fillies and Gentlecolts, as Mayor of Ponyville, it is my great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Summer Sun Celebration. Every pony started to cheer besides Twilight. "In just a few moments, our town will witness the magic of the Sun rise, and celebrate this, the longest day of the year! And now, it is my great honor to introduce to you the ruler of our land, the very pony who gives us the sun and the moon each and every day, the good, the wise, the bringer of harmony to all of Equestria..." said the Mayor, while at the same time Twilight had looked up at the moon and got a really worried look on her face.

Fluttershy turned to her birds and asked, "Ready?"

The Mayor exclaimed, "...Princess Celestia!" Fluttershy's birds sang again and Rarity pulled the cord that pulls the curtains back. The spotlight came over to the spot where Princess Celestia is suppose to be.

"Huh?" Rarity said noticing that Celestia isn't there. The ponies started to nervously chatter among themselves, and Twilight said, "This can't be good."

The Mayor said to everyone, "Remain calm every pony. There must be a reasonable explanation."

Pinkie Pie jumped up and down and said, "Ooh, ooh, I love guessing games! Is she hiding?"

Rarity came out and said, "She's gone!"

Everypony gasped and Pinkie Pie said, "Ooh, she's good." Pinkie Pie then yelped and everypony looked up to see Purple smoke.

Twilight said as she lowered her head closer to the ground, "Oh no. Nightmare Moon." Just then a Black pony appeared from the smoke, and Spike fainted.

"Oh, my beloved subjects. It's been so long since I have seen your precious Sun loving faces." Nightmare Moon said. Rainbow Dash looked at Nightmare Moon said, "What did you do with our Princess?" before she attempted to fly up to her, but was held back by Applejack grabbing her tail while saying, "Whoa there Nelly."

Nightmare Moon chuckled before saying, "Why, am I not royal enough for you? Don't you know who I am?"

Pinkie Pie said, "Ooh, ooh, more guessing games! Um, Hokey Smokes! How about... Queen Meanie! No! Black Snooty, Black Snooty." Pinkie Pie was cut off when Applejack stuck an Apple in her mouth.

Nightmare Moon went over to Fluttershy scaring her and her birds saying, "Does my crown no longer count after I have been imprisoned for a thousand years?" Nightmare Moon went over to Rarity and continued, "Did you not see the legends? Did you not see the signs?"

Twilight said, "I did." That caused Nightmare Moon to look at her. "And I know who you are. You're the Mare in the Moon. Nightmare Moon!" Twilight finished.

Everypony gasped at this and Nightmare Moon said, "Well, well, well, some pony remembers me. Then you also know why I am here."

Twilight said, "You're here to...to...," gulping afterwards.

Nightmare Moon chuckled and then said, "Remember this day ponies, for it was your last. From this moment forth, the night will last forever!" Nightmare Moon's Tail and Mane spun in a circle around her and up toward the sky creating lightning. Everypony's mouth was agape and Twilight had a worried look.

"Are you stupid?" came a voice from the back of the room.
