A train from Manehatten was heading to a town called Ponyville. Red Recorder looked around the train car he was in. There weren’t very many ponies in the same car as Red, but, there was one particular pony that was sitting across from him. Her name was Night Lights, but she preferred just being called Lights. She's known Red for nearly all her life, because they grew up together in Manehatten and went to school there together.
The two were going to Ponyville to check out a house that Red was interested in buying. He had heard good reviews about the home, so he wanted to check it out. Lights wanted to join him, because she needed to get out of the city. The bright lights and constant noise had taken too much out of her and she needed to get away. There were no objections from Red. He was happy to have company on the trip.
Plus she had made a decision to live with Red. They had known each other for years, so moving in together shouldn't have been a problem.
Half way through the train ride Red motioned to Lights for her to come over to the seat next to him. She smiled and plopped into the seat. Lights then opened her saddlebag she carried with her and pulled out a water bottle.
“Here you go, Red. Have some water, you look thirsty.” Lights sighed as she pulled another water bottle out of the bag. Red took the bottle offered to him and placed it on his lap. Lights had always carried water for reasons unknown. Red looked out the window for a few seconds then felt something lay on his shoulder. He turned and saw Lights had fallen asleep on him.
“Well you passed out quick” he mocked. Not that it was any use. He just felt like saying it. Red didn't mind, however, and let her rest on his shoulder for the rest of the ride to Ponyville. Red had looked out the window of the train and had caught his reflection. His red and orange mane was messy, yet neat at the same time. His white coat seemed perfectly fine and his horn was clean.
When the train arrived at the station he nuzzled Lights softly. Lights slowly sat up and looked around groggily. Then with a slow realization, she figured out where they were and her eyes sprung open wide. Red chuckled and led her out of the train, carrying his bags along with his partners'. They had walked for a short while until they came to the house Red had heard about. The door opened and a colt walked up to them.
“You must be Red. Nice to meet you. How about I show you the house now?” chuckled the salescolt. The pair had eagerly followed him as he led them through the bottom floor of the house. The salescolt stopped before the steps and turned to the pair and smiled.
“There is only the bathroom and bedroom upstairs.” He chuckled. “Hopefully that is satisfactory for you and your marefriend?”
Lights heard the word “marefriend” and froze up, embarrassed.
Red reassured the salescolt that she was just a friend, nothing more. The salescolt smiled and told Red that when he made a decision he would be out in the garden. Pondering what to do, Red looked at Lights and saw her worried expression.
“What's wrong? So what if there is only one bedroom? We can move our beds into the same room. I hope.” sighed Red. He had been proven wrong. The room had been so small that only one bed could fit. Disappointed, he looked at Lights who gave him another worried look.
“I don’t know about this, Red.” Whispered Lights. “It's a lovely house but I'm worried will we be able to be roommates here? Is it safe?”
Red was worried but he didn’t want to show it, so he smiled and put an arm around Lights. “It will be fine Lights, and besides, it would never change our friendship.”
Lights blushed profusely, nodded, and silently followed Red to the garden. They found the salescolt in the garden looking at the flowers. Red cleared his throat to get the colt's attention. He then turned around to face them, beaming with excitement.
“So, have you two made a decision?” The colt asked curiously.
The two told him they would take the house. Not long after came hours of boring paperwork, but when it was finally done Red and Lights were the official owners of the house. Humming a cheery tune, Red took his bags, along with Lights', upstairs into the bedroom.
He quickly threw the bags onto the bedroom floor and trotted down the steps back outside the house. Outside, he found the moving balloon had just arrived. The balloon was absolutely huge! It was so big that it had to be levitated by magic just to stay in the air! With the help of the moving crew, Lights and Red were able to move all the furniture into the house. It took six long, grueling hours, but it was worth it. Lights turned to Red, tired and panting. She smiled at him, happy that their work was finally done.
“Red, I'm going to go get a shower.” Lights sang as she trotted up the steps and hopped into the shower. Tired and sore from moving so much furniture, Red headed upstairs and fell asleep on the bed. A couple minutes had passed and Lights exited the shower. She stood in front of the mirror. She brushed he dark purple mane, which almost perfectly matched her coat. She made sure her wings were groomed and her hooves made pretty. She had then left the bathroom and made her way to the bedroom.
Upon entering she saw Red asleep, lying on the bed, not even covered by any blankets. Seeing her lifelong friend asleep on the bed made her feel something she hadn't felt before. It was strange, but this feeling she had felt foreign to her. Her heart beat faster as she quietly walked toward the bed. Her mouth went dry as she carefully climbed in and covered herself with blankets. The thought of sharing a bed with her best friend made her feel...Safe.
But, looking over to see his chest move up and down with every breath also made her feel something else. It was a stirring in her abdomen, a rush of heat that fueled her like a fire to grass. It was then, Lights knew, that she was attracted to this colt lying beside her. She always knew she had loved Red, but now, now she wanted him. Meticulously looking over Red's body made her feel weird. She ignored it and continued to look over him Lights stopped over one part in particular and froze.
“That's where you and I are different”sighed Lights as she kissed Red's cheek then turned off the lights. She soon fell into a deep sleep where she dreamed of a certain colt.
