The Performance of a Lifetime

Previous Chapter

The door let out a slight creak as Lachlan opened the red painted door to allow him entry into the bustling dance floor. He noticed the distinct smell of drying glue and perfume as he placed his backpack on a nearby chair while he slid off his black "Lands End" Jacket, which he dropped onto his backpack, almost hiding it.

Gazing around the room, he noticed several things, which had they been on any other day, would be very uncommon. Josh Jarman, one of his two dance teachers, was stiching a small hole in one of the girls dance costumes. While at the young instructer, he acted much older than you would expect. He had a well built midsection, and strong arms, which came in handy when he tought us our toughest of lifts. His hair looked like a mix between black and brown, and was never more than three or so inches long. Another noteable feature was his dark chestnut eyes, which tended to remind me of well blended coffee.

Jesse, who while being the youngest, was making himself useful by organizing the other costumes by name, and making sure nothing was missing from any of them. His skin was dark brown, which matched his black hair. He was one of the best dancers in there group, as he was very devoted to what he did, which he knew that if he worked at it, he'd be going places with dance.

He also noticed Rebecca and Audrey, two of the soloists from there performance, helping each other with their hair and makeup. Rebecca was Lachlans partner, and was easily the most talented and hardest trying member of the team. In his eyes, if Rebecca couldn't do it, nobody could. She was about a foot shorter than her partner, and a little more than a year younger aswell, but made it up with talent, hard work, determination, and her very mature attitude. Her hair was black as could be, and was always very well groomed and taken care of. She was also very smart, and always placed high in her debate tournaments to prove it.

Audrey's hair was light brown, and was almost never combed, yet she always ended up pulling it off, whatever her hair had decided to do that day. The other noteable thing was its length, hovering between a foot and half to two feet. She was almost always, the most outgoing and adventures of them all. Audrey was partners with Jacob, one of Lachlans old friends from several years before.

Not knowing how to help, Lachlan started walking around the outline of the room, hoping somebody would notice him and give him somthing to do. Unlike the front he put on the majority of the time, he was beyond shy. Every word he spoke would always reverberate inside his head, making him think he had said or done something wrong. Even though these were by far his best friends, and the ones he trusted the most, he couldn't often get passed the slight possibility they were juding him.

For a good minute or so, nobody seemed to notice him as they were all to focused on whatever it was they were doing.
