A Slip of the Horn

The sun rose over the small town of Ponyville, it was 6 AM and Applejack and Big Macintosh were already out bucking apples. In town the market was opening up for business and already some ponies were arriving to buy fruit, vegetables and other things.

At the Golden Oaks Library, Twilight Sparkle had already been up for an hour and was studying Equestrian History at her desk. At the rise of the sun, her pet owl, Owlowiscious flew away to go to sleep for the day as Spike the dragon awoke.

“Good Morning Spike!” Twilight called as Spike ran downstairs. “I’ve already filled out a checklist for the day; we’ll be heading out at about 7”

“Ok, Twilight, have you had breakfast?” Spike asked as he ran into the kitchen.

“Had it when I got up, there should be some jewels in the fridge for you Spike” Twilight replied

Spike opened the fridge to find his breakfast, gemstones! Spike gulped them all down.

Twilight closed her book and put it away. She noticed Spike looked sick and was clutching his stomach

“Are you ok, Spike? Were those bad gems?”

“No, it’s not that!” Spike burped up a piece of parchment with a ribbon tied to it and the crest of Princess Celestia on it.

“A letter from the princess!” Twilight gasped as she levitated the letter to her and opened it

My Dearest Twilight,

I will be making an appearance in Fillydelphia later today and thought I should drop in for your report on the Magic of Friendship if you have it, I should be at your home in about 10 minutes.

“Spike, do we have a report for Princess Celestia?” Twilight asked

“Nope not from us, but Derpy’s outside with the mail, maybe somepony else has one for us.”

Twilight trotted outside to meet Derpy Hooves, the mail mare at the mailbox

“Hey Derpy, are there any friendship reports for me today?”

The wall-eyed Pegasus looked through her mail for Twilight and found something “Here, it’s from Pinkie Pie”

Twilight opened the letter from Pinkie Pie and read it

You’re invited to Pinkie Pie’s Tuesday Party!!!!!!!

When:  Tuesday (duh) at 3:00

Where: Sugarcube Corner

From Pinkie Pie!

“Nope, just another invitation” Twilight sighed

“Ummmmm” Derpy looked through her mail “Nope, nothing else but coupons and bills, sorry”

Derpy gave the mail to Twilight and flew off to her next house.

“This is bad Spike, really really bad!” Twilight was worried.

“Twilight, you don’t need a letter for the princess every week, we’ve been over this” Spike said.

“No Spike, you don’t understand, I’ve been on a roll for 3 months, I’ve had a letter every week for 3 months! If Princess Celestia doesn’t get a letter this week she might think I’m slacking off, and then she’ll send me back to Magic Kindergarten”

Spike couldn’t hold back a face palm as Twilight paced around the room worried about what could happen

“I have to think of something” Twilight panicked

Twilight was interrupted by a ball of light that grew bigger and bigger until the shape of Princess Celestia could be seen in it. Twilight’s horn flared up almost by itself and zapped the princess with a beam of magic before she could say anything to Twilight. When the light disappeared, Princess Celestia stood there, but something was different about her.

“Hello Twi- wait a second, why is my voice so high?”

Celestia looked at Twilight

“Why are you so much taller than me?”

“Uh oh” Twilight gasped

“Uh oh? What do you mean uh oh?” Celestia turned around and looked in a mirror, but she didn’t see herself, she saw a little filly that looked almost exactly like her
