Chapters Long before she had met anyone in Ponyville, before she knew friendship, Twilight was a self-exiled scholar. (much like myself) She tried to find out how to spend more of her time studying and less time with others. Eventually she came across a spell that could take her to a dimension filled with nothing but the endless knowledge of the universe. She spent what seemed like several days inside the huge collection of books and knowledge, but something felt wrong with the place. Like nothing she had ever felt before, like the place seemed to be drawing something from her. Scared, she left the dimension to ask Princess Celestia about it. When she exited the dimension she had discovered that only several minutes had passed. Confused and scared, she ran out of the library.
Twilight got up to the Princesses private chamber and was allowed access by the Royal unicorn guards outside. She told Celestia about the realm she had discovered. And the Princess looked angry. “What’s wrong?” Twilight asked, stepping back sheepishly. Celestia Responded “Where did you find this spell?” Twilight then said “I found it in one of the books you gave me. Am I in trouble?” Celestias expression lightened, “No my faithful student, you are not in trouble. But I am afraid that I cannot let you keep your knowledge of this spell, at least not until your older. Please stand still.” Twilight complied with the request, standing absolutely still, not even breathing. Her face had started to turn an odd color when Celestia noticed, “You can breathe.”
Twilight exhaled sharply, and then blushed. Celestia simply smiled and shook her head as she resumed powering up her spell. Twilight asked “What are you going to do to me?” Celestia replied “I am going to erase all your memory of this dimension, the spell and the book you found it in.” Twilight leaned back away from her teacher, “will it hurt?” Celestia shook her head, “I should believe not, as I’ve had to use it on you once before.” Twilight curled here face up in confusion and shock, “What?” Celestia chuckled “I was just joking. Now hold still.” She brought the tip of her horn down to touch Twilights, and she fell unconscious. Celestia looked over the unconscious form of her student with worry, “Nothing good will come from this.” She thought as she levitated Twilights unconscious body onto her back, giggling slightly at the adorable snores coming from her favorite student. She sighed at the thought of having to explain herself if Twilight ever found out what she had done.
MANY YEARS LATER
Twilight Sparkle was at a small birthday party, when she received a letter from Princess Celestia explaining something odd.
To my faithful student, Twilight Sparkle I regret to inform you that at one point in the past, I had to modify your memory to protect from harm. I feel that you are now of a proper age to handle the spell I had removed from your memory. It is my hope that you would find a proper use for this spell and one day figure out how it can be used for the benefit of everypony.

From Princess Celestia Ps. I’m having the spell copied from its book as I’m writing this letter, it should take a few days. And try not to go crazy again.
Despite Applejacks pleading, Twilight refused to stay calm. She ended up pacing the library for hours on end which isn’t strange for Twilight, as she tends to do this quite often when nervous. “Twilight, could you at least try to relax?” Spike asked. “I don’t know how YOU could be so calm.” Twilight replied. Spike simply pointed to a clock and said, “3 A.M.” Twilight looked up at the clock in confusion, “how much time passed?” She thought to herself. “Ok, I’ll try to get some sleep.” Spike glared at her, “Use that knockout spell you learned a few weeks ago.” Twilight replied “Remind me again why I studied that.” Spike replied “Because it’s relevant to the plot of the story?” Twilight looked him with a look of extreme confusion, “WHAT?!?!” Spike sheepishly backed away, “I’ve been spending way too much time with Pinkie Pie.” Twilight right eye started to twitch and made to ask a question, but decided against it as it would bring up more questions than it answered. “Whatever, let’s just get some sleep.”
After tending to Spike and making sure the library was set for the night, Twilight hopped into her bed and had cast the knockout spell onto herself, but she had made some minor alterations to it so that instead of simply knocking her unconscious it would induce a natural sleep. Simply put, it was a sleeping spell. After a few moments of drifting lazily through some clouds, she realized “I’m not a Pegasus.” She then fell to the ground and hit with a thud. She got up and rubbed the dirt off of herself before moving on into town. It seemed eerily deserted, “Where is everypony?” She shouted. In the distance she could hear a voice say her name, it was quite faint. She would’ve even heard it at all if one of her ears hadn’t been tilted in that direction. She started toward the voice at a normal pace. The voice getting louder and louder. Suddenly the voice stopped, she looked around at the abandoned town, and tried to convince herself that none of it was real. “It’s just a dream, It’s just a dream….” She continued her mantra. She closed her eyes in a feeble attempt to wake herself. When she opened them again, she was terrified at the sight in front of her. All her friends, their bodies twisted and mangled. Rainbow Dash, her mane in pieces, her right wing bent and broke with the bones piercing the skin and her left wing in a similar state, but with it broken in two places. Her gut sliced open along the sides, intestines dragging along the ground. Her face covered in cuts and bruises and her left eye dangling from its socket. The rest of them were in similar, if not worse shapes. Among them being Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie. With Pinkie having a rather demented looking smile on her face that would Celestia cringe.
“Why did you do this to us?” The mangled bit of flesh that was Fluttershy asked. Rainbow said “I thought we were your friends.” Pinkie added “We wanted to party with you.” Rarity added “We loved you.” Applejack said “And all you did was torture us.” Twilight replied “What did I do?” Rainbow replied “Isn’t it obvious? You betrayed us.” Twilight was shocked by this statement, “Why would I betray my friends?” Fluttershy spoke up, in a manner highly unlike her, “You never were friends with us, you were using us the complete your goals.” Pinkie said, “It doesn’t matter to us anymore.” Applejack “We have nothing more to say to you, murderer.” If Twilight was shocked before, now she was terrified. “W-W-W-What do you mean?” Rainbow replied “You killed Princess Celestia.” Twilight was tearing up. Applejack laughed, “Ok look, the cold killer’s crying.” Rarity said “She doesn’t deserve the pleasure of being able to cry.” Pinkie said, “I agree.” She looked over at Twilight “Your number has come up.” And she pulled a knife out of her mane. The rest of her friends pulled out similar knifes from various parts of their bodies, rainbow pulling one from her broken wing, Fluttershy pulling one from her eye, Rarity pulled one from her leg and Applejack pulled one from her ribs. Each new open wound gushing out blood as the offending object was removed.
They began approaching Twilight, shortly after Rainbow jumped at Twilight stabbing her in one of her rear legs, pain shooting up along Twilights nerves causing them to shut down, paralyzing that legs. Fluttershy leaped next burying the knife into Twilight marehood, twisting it as if to cause insult to injury. Applejack jabbed the knife into Twilights right eyes, causing a third jolt of pain and more screaming from the now utterly crippled, used-to-be mare. Rarity jumped and tried to stab Twilights mane, failing that she put her knife to twilights flank and cut out her cutie marks then moved over to her head and cut off Twilights horn. Pinkie pouted, she spoke up and said “That was my idea.” Rarity laughed and said better luck next time.” Pinkie walked over and stabbed Twilight in the gut, twisting the knife in full circles. Pinkie then flipped Twilight onto her back and Said “There is one more who would like to speak with you.” Twilight looked through her one remaining eye at the sight of an alicorn walking towards her. But something was wrong. The alicorns wings were broken and shattered, horn ripped in 2 and barely hanging, cuts all over its body, its gut ripped completely open with most of its organs dragging behind it. Its coat was completely soaked with blood and other juices. Its mane reduced to nothing more than cinders. Then Twilight saw its cutie mark, the sun. This was Princess Celestia walking up to her. The princess had walked over to Twilight without are simply thought to how she was able to accomplish it, and said “I knew this day would come, and yet I let it happen. You will bring about the deaths of tens of thousands all because I made a mistake. NO. You are the Soul case of this, and you WILL be punished. I, Princess Celestia, hereby expel you from the School for gifted unicorns, renounce you as my student, declare you an enemy of Equestria, and sentence you to death for the murder of tens of thousands.” She began walking towards Twilight, who was trying to crawl away. Celestia pulled a knife out of the center of her chest and took the knife in her magic. “It is only fitting that you be killed in the same way that you killed me.” The Celestia plunged the knife directly into Twilights heart.
Twilight jumped out of bed, screaming loudly. Spike immediately rushed to her side. “What’s wrong Twilight?” She shook her head, and through her immense, paralyzing fear, she heard Spike, but couldn’t respond. After 30 seconds, the full weight of the dream dropped down on her like a ton of bricks and she started crying uncontrollably. Spike hopped up into Twilight bed and embraced her in an attempt to comfort her. “It’s ok, it was only a dream.” Twilight her him, and said through the tears “Only a dream…” She repeated her mantra a few more times before laying back down; Spike was just about to hop off the bed when he heard Twilight say “Don’t leave me. Please stay with me.” Spike crawled back over to her, “are you sure?” Twilight nodded. She put a forelimb over him and they fell asleep again shortly. The nightmare didn’t return and she slept peacefully for the rest of the night.
Off in Canterlot, Princess Luna was dreamwalking, when she stumbled across Twilights nightmare. “That is quite troubling. And so soon after Celestia sent……no I must be simply nerves. I truly hope that IT hasn’t returned”. Luna noticed that Twilight had awoken from her dream, And she said to herself “Rest well young one, for tonight I shall watch over you.”

The plot is largely undeveloped, because I kind of just put this together after going on a grimdark reading spree.
I know it says, "Dark and tragedy" But I can't help but throw in a few lighthearted moments.
Twilight woke up the next morning, still holding onto Spike with her foreleg. She withdrew her leg, got out of bed and with a smile on her face gave him a little peck on the check, and silently said “Thank you” before going down into the main room of the library. She opened up the library and settled in for a long day of study. After about an hour She noticed Spike walking down the stairs, “Are you alright, Twilight?” She replied “I’m alright now Spike. Thank you for staying with me.” She blushed slightly. “If anything like that happens again, just say so, and I’ll be there for you.” She smiled and said, “Thank you.”
A few hours after breakfast, around noon, Rainbow came by the library, asking for the release date of the latest Daring doo book. “I told you Dash, It’s NEXT month.” Rainbow replied, “I know, I just can’t wait…Hey Spike, what’s wrong little guy?” Spike was curling over in pain, and then belched up a letter from Princess Celestia.To my faithful student
Twilight Sparkle I have decided to personally deliver the copy of spell to you. I should be there around 4 in the afternoon, provided Blueblood doesn’t try anything stupid with the other nobles. I honestly regret making him a prince. Anyway, try to relax. And don’t go crazy like you usually do.
From Princess Celestia P.S. I’m serious, don’t go crazy.
Twilight spent the next 2 hours trying to put the shattered mind of Rainbow Dash back together, with little success. “ARGH!!!! Her mind is in a thousand pieces, and her giggling isn’t helping.” Spike asked “Should I go get Pinkie Pie?” Twilight replied “That’s probably a good idea, as she’s probably had to do something like this in the past.” Spike replied “Alright, but you’ll have to explain.” Twilight replied “I’ll explain everything.” She said in a creepy way. Spike had just left the building when a flash of light lit up the inside of library. Twilight blinked her eyes a few times to get the flash out of her eyes, and when she did she saw Princess Celestia standing there with a saddlebag that had some scrolls in it. Twilight made to bow but was intercepted by Celestia. “Please Twilight, I’m not here as the Princess. But rather as your friend. By the way, what happened to Rainbow Dash?” Twilight sheepishly said, “I was playing a joke on her and I think I may have broken her.” Celestia simply shook her head, “How do you plan on fixing her?” Twilight replied “I’ve spent the last 2 hours trying. By the way, you’re early.” Celestia asked again “How do you plan on fixing Dash?” Twilight replied “I asked Spike to fetch Pinkie. I figured she might have some experience with this kind of thing.” At that exact moment Pinkies head popped out of Celestias saddle bag. “Spike told me you needed help with something.” She climbed out of the Saddle bag, reached into with a foreleg and pulled Spike out of it. Celestia was surprised at this, Twilight was about to have a breakdown, and Rainbow was softly giggling to herself.
“Oh that’s the problem. The same thing happened after Dashie first experienced what my pinkie sense was.” Pinkie then poked Dash in the flank twice, tapped her head once, gently pulled on her tail, blew once through her mane, tapped her nose and then gently bopped her on the head. Dashs eyes went derp for a few moments before going back to normal. “Oh my head.” She said while rubbing it with a hoof. “What happened?” Pinkie replied “I had to restart you again.” Rainbow sighed and asked “Again?” Pinkie nodded. And while all this was going on Celestia was discussing the spell with Twilight.
“So that’s what the spell does? Why did you blank me for that?” Celestia replied “You were too young to handle the vast amounts of knowledge in that realm. Plus anypony that has visited that realm in the past has come back ‘changed’”. Twilight, confused asked “Changed? How?” Celestia responded “They come back different. It happened to a previous student of mine almost 300 years ago. You actually look a bit like her. When she went into the realm she was nice, caring and gentle, but when she came out, she tried to kill the few friends she had, and had succeeded in killing 2 of them. That was the last murder in Equestria.” Twilight, shocked, said “So that’s why you blanked it from my mind.” Celestia nodded and added, “She was about the age you were when you discovered the spell. It is my hope that because you are now older and more mature, that you would be resistant to the mind altering effects of the realm.”
“Would the others be able to go with me?” Celestia replied “I’m sure they could if they wanted.” Celestia floated a bundle of papers over to Twilight; there was at least 40 pages of parchment. “That’s the Spell?” Twilights jaw dropped. “Oh no, only the first page is the spell, the rest is….I’m actually not sure what the rest is.” She looked at the rest. “Oh, this is my laundry list. My mistake.” She floated the bundle back to her saddle bag and brought out a scroll, “Ah, this is the spell.” She floated it over to Twilight, who opened the scroll. “It seems easy enough. And you say I was able to perform this as a filly?” Celestia nodded, “You are quite talented. Anyway, I should be taking my leave. Good-bye Twilight.” Twilight replied “Good-bye Celestia.” And Celestia left the library and flew off.
Twilight then looked over and saw that Pinkie had managed to fix Rainbow. “Glad to see you’re alright.” Rainbow grumbled. “Just don’t lick my hoof again.” Pinkies head tilted as she tried to process what she just heard, then she asked “Twilight, why did you lick Dashies hoof?” Twilight grinned and replied “She shoved it in my mouth to keep me from freaking out.” Pinkie responded “That makes sense.” She backed away from Twilight a little.
Twilight asked pair if they would like to come with her to visit the realm. Rainbow spoke up “A realm filled with the infinite knowledge of the universe, count me out.” Twilight replied “It may have the latest Daring Doo book.” Rainbow eyes narrowed, “COUNT ME IN!!!” Twilight then turned to Pinkie who said “I was planning on going anyway, to keep you company.” Twilight performed the spell and a magical doorway opened in front of them. Blue jets of pure flaming magic shooting out of the floor forming an archway, but they didn’t burn the floor or cast off any heat. In the center, a wave of shimmering energy formed, indicating that the gateway was forming. Then in a brilliant flash of pure energy, the gateway was ready. Twilight, Pinkie and Rainbow all stepped through the event horizon of the portal, all with their eyes closed.

As she stood facing her twin, Twilight gasped. Then she asked “What are you?”
Twilight rolled around in her bed for the next hour trying to get to sleep. She was about the drift off to sleep when she felt a presence. “Spike, is that you?” She asked, getting no response. She lit up her horn with a light spell shooting beams of light into the darkness. She looked over at Spike and saw a glow surrounding his body, mainly his head. She made to get out of bed, but found herself pushed back down onto the mattress as she was overpowered by a magical field. She struggled against the bonds to free herself, but stopped when she heard a voice. “Oh dear Twilight, The time has come.” She looked around and saw Sparkle walking out of the shadows and into the light, Sparkle climbed on top of the bed with Twilight and straddled her body, “The time has come for us to become one again.” She leaned her head down to Twilights face. Twilight turned her head away from her double, who quickly forced it back into place with a quick burst of magic. “Don’t worry so much, it’s not good for you.” Sparkle then kissed Twilight full on the lips, Twilight tried to scream but found her mouth occupied by Sparkles tongue as it explored her mouth. Sparkle reached her fore-hoof down between Twilights thighs and started to rub her sensitive spot. Twilight moaned slightly as the hoof message her, but continued her futile struggle against the bonds holding her in place.
Twilight began to feel a sensation growing, and she involuntarily bucked her hips against Sparkles hoof, “It looks like someone is enjoying herself.” Twilight’s moans became louder and louder as the sensations grew, eventually peaking and she felt her whole body tense up and juices sprayed from her nether region. Sparkle brought her hoof back up and licked the juices off of it, “You’re quite the tasty one. Now that you’re more receptive, we can become one.” Sparkle touched the tip of her horn to Twilights and they both started to glow slightly. Sparkles body became more and more translucent and eventually became transparent as she transferred her essence into Twilight, who became consumed by a growing hunger.
At this point Sparkle was fully absorbed by Twilight, who got out of her bed. Now that she was free of her bonds, she started thrashing around in her room with her fore-hooves grasping her head. The pain coursing through her head was unimaginable. Suddenly the pain peaked and she screamed out at the top of the lungs. She then collapsed into a pile in her room, breathing heavily. Eventually she got back up, with a smirk on her face. “Let’s have some fun. I need to get my tools ready.” She went down to her “secret” lab down in her basement and started gathering up knives, tools, surgical equipment and various chemicals. She put all of this into a saddlebag and walked out of the basement, out of the Library and into the darkness. “Let’s pay Rainbow a visit.” She walked over to Rainbows house on the outskirts of town.
Twilight looked up at Rainbow’s house with a sneer on her face. She Cast the Cloud-walker spell onto herself and teleported up into Rainbow’s house. It appeared rather Spartan, despite being so extravagant from the outside. She found her way to Rainbow’s room, quietly opened the door and walked in. She saw Rainbow sleeping quietly on her bed, cuddling with a Lyra Heartstrings Plushie. That’s odd. Twilight thought. Twilight used her magic to move Rainbows body into a spread eagle position and used various spells and enchantments to keep Rainbow restrained in said position. Twilight then placed a black-magic enchantment over Rainbow body to keep her alive as long as possible even after what should be fatal injuries. Twilight then cast a sound-proofing spell onto the room and used a voice enhancement spell to simulate the Royal Canterlot voice. “WAKE UP RAINBOW!!!!!” Rainbow didn’t stir despite probably having gone deaf, Twilight face-hoofed at her rock of a friend. “I didn’t know Tom was a changeling.” Rainbow stirred awake, “Oh sure, you don’t wake up at me shouting, but you wake up at a whisper.”
Rainbows eyes nearly popped out of her head. She began screaming for help. Twilight reached into her Saddlebag and Brought out a hacksaw. “First, your wings.” Rainbow tensed up as she felt the coldness of the blade touch her wing. Twilight began slowly moving the blade back and forth along Rainbow’s flesh cutting through it, Rainbow was screaming loudly in pain as the blade began cutting through the bone. The pain pushing its way through her mind was overwhelming. Twilight sighed contentedly as the blade fully cut through the wing. She removed it from the bed and placed it into a pocket dimension she had formed just for this purpose. Rainbow was crying partly at the pain of losing a wing and partly at the betrayal of her friend. Twilight began cutting through the other wing, drawing blood and screams. She cut her way through and placed it into the pocket dimension. “Oh I almost forgot.” She conjured a flame spell to cauterize the stumps. Twilight put the hack saw back into the saddlebag and thought “Why didn’t I create a pocket dimension to hold my tools? I’ll have to do that later.”
She removed a scalpel from her bag, placed it against Rainbows Cutie mark and began to cut it off. Rainbow was once again screaming in pain as more of it was cut from her body. Twilight moved to the other side and cut off the other one too. She placed both bits of flesh into the pocket dimension after preserving them with magic. Twilight looked at her friend, “I’m not done. In fact, I’m just getting started.”
