Load Full StoryNext ChapterSo here I am; sitting on my floor, confused as possible because there are six girls sitting on my couch telling me that I’m something important. Well let me tell you, I’m anything but important. I’m just a regular dude. I wake up, go to work, eat, sleep do it over the next day. I should have listened to my brain and not trusted them from the start. But I guess that’s what I am, trust. At least that’s what they keep telling me; but I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me start from the beginning.
I should start by introducing myself, my name is Seth Grant; but most people just call me Salem, I never learned why it’s just a name that stuck to me in junior high. I’m not the brightest of bulbs or the sharpest of nails. My grades were par average. I’m about 5”11 with dark blonde hair and sapphire blue eyes. My idea of a good time is chilling out and watching some My Little Pony, yes you heard me right, I watch my little pony. I am very much a Brony, the only channel I get on my piece of crap television is Hasbro. This is fine, I mainly use it to play video games anyway, so it doesn’t bother me that much. My story of insanity starts going downhill at my place of work.
“SETH GET TO WORK! I STILL NEED YOU IN THE GYM TO MAKE SURE NONE OF THE KIDS GET HURT!”
“On it boss!” I work at a daycare center on the east side of my town. I enjoy working with kids very much. They always seem to come straight to me, I never knew why. My parents always said it’s because I smell like Santa Clause and chocolate chip cookies. Even at a young age smaller kids would walk right up to me and just ask me to play.
As I carried a tub of unhealthy junk food and small Capri-sun packets past almost two dozen screaming kids, and one angry boss, I yelled for all the kids to line up in there designated lines. With almost 200 hundred kids this took about ten minutes.
“SETH GET OUT HERE! THERE ARE SOME GIRLS THAT WANT TO SPEAK WITH YOU!”
“ OK boss I’m coming!”
Some girls? That’s strange I don’t know many girls, only a couple friends from high school; but they live in other states so it couldn't be them. I walked out into the front room and saw six strange looking girls, and a small boy, whom looked kind of annoyed.
“hello” I said with a big smile “ I’m Seth, what can I do for you today?”
“hello” said the one in front. She had dark lavender hair with a single pink line going down the side. She held her head high and I could tell she was the kind of person who had a lot of self confidence in her skills. “My name is Tina Sparks, and I heard you are great with kids, in fact I heard you are one of the best.”
I rubbed the back of my neck and gave a goofy smile, bashful about such a kind compliment.
“Well I wouldn't say one of the best, it’s just kind of a talent. I was just naturally born to be good with kids” after I said this I noticed two of the girls in back snickering about something. I couldn't make It out but I think they said something about a “cutie mark”. I didn't worry about it though
“Well Seth this is Shane and I was wondering if you could watch him for the day along with the rest of your kids” Tina continued with a lot of calmness in her voice but I noticed Shane didn't seemed to excited about the idea of staying at a day care. Shane was probably around seven or eight years old and probably in the first or second grade. I immediately noticed his hair, he sported a bright green Mohawk, along with that he wore a green T-shirt, much like his hair, and a light purple jacket. I knelt down to look Shane eye to eye and noticed just like his hair and his shirt he had bright green eyes.
“Hi Shane, my name is Seth, but most of the kids just call me Salem”
Shane looked at me with nervous eyes, like he was trying to tell me how bad he didn't want to be there; but I knew I could get him to smile, it was just a matter of trust. After a while he finally spoke.
“Hi Salem, my name is Shane, but most people just call me spike, you know from the T.V show, My Little Pony”
“I know the one I heard it’s pretty good” my thoughts whirled as I started making the connection.
“Yeah well I don’t really know, everyone says I just look like the dragon from it which is awesome because I love dragons; but I wouldn't know I never really watch it.”
“Well I don’t watch it much either” I lied “But it’s no big deal, you got here just in time we are just about to have our snack so why don’t you come on in” his eyes lit up at the mention of food and he ran inside the gym. The six girls whom were watching the whole time seemed shocked.
“Wow Seth it took us almost an hour to convince him to come and give this place a try.” Said Tina “It took you less than five minutes to convince him. What we heard about you was definitely true”
I looked at her with a big grin happy that people are kind enough to think about me and tell me about others.
“Well Miss Sparks it’s all about a matter of trust. If I can trust the kids then they can trust me as well”
“And what if they can’t trust you?” said one of the girls in the back. She wore a cyan blue jacket and short shorts, her hair was a lot of different colors, almost like a rainbow, but the strange part about her were her eyes; they were a beautiful magenta. She had seriousness in her voice that shocked me. She walked up with speed that surprised me even more. She was just about as tall as I was, maybe just a little bit shorter. “Well?” she asked
I just kept smiling and said in a calm voice “I trust everyone, so I try to not give a reason for anyone not to trust me.”
