//-------------------------------------------------------// Sins of the Evil -by Lightning Star- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Sins of the Evil //-------------------------------------------------------// Sins of the Evil It was a normal day in Ponyville Square. Celestia’s sun glowed brightly in the sky and radiated with an essence of good feelings. Ponies went about their day as they normally would. Fruits and produce were exchanged for bits at market stalls. Friends talked with each other as they walked the streets. The day was normal, everypony felt like the day was to stand out in their minds, and that it would come and go like the previous and the next. Nopony was prepared for the next few moments. In the middle of a normal day almost seeming to be following a schedule, nopony could have known what would happen next. A brown stallion by the name of Coco Bean began to cross the street with a group of other ponies, all of them not prepared for the next few moments. From around the corner two stallions were running as fast as they could in order to make their delivery of sugar and flour to Sugar Cube Corner. For a reason unknown to them, they had overslept and were now running as fast as they could down the street to the bakery; the very same street that happened to be the one Coco Bean was crossing. Everypony crossing the street saw the cart from a mile away and dashed to the other side. Coco Bean, however, remained oblivious. Then the unthinkable happened. The wheel on the rushing stallions’ cart suddenly broke, causing it to lose balance and tip over. The speed at which the cart was being pulled caused it to fly into the air, straight towards Coco Bean. He saw the cart flying towards him, he wanted to run out of the way, but his legs wouldn’t move. Time then stood still, until the screams of multiple ponies snapped it back into motion. The cart had fallen onto Coco Bean, crushing the lower half of his body completely. Every drop of blood was forming into a crimson puddle around him. Pain coursed through his body, he wanted to scream, but he hadn’t the will to. His life slowly started to fade as his pain grew more and more. With the last of his life, Coco Bean looked around. He was surrounded by everypony who had been in the square at the time. Some of them were screaming, some of them were vomiting. But one stood out to Coco Bean: a purple unicorn staring and smiling at him. She was smiling at him with a crazed smile of pure sadistic joy. ”TWILIGHT, HELP!” Pinkie’s cries rung all through Sugar Cube Corner. “Please, don’t! AHHH! TWILIGHT! AHHH! TWILI…” Then they suddenly ended, along with the party mare’s life. Twilight was helpless, she couldn’t do anything but just watch as Pinkie was brutally murdered. The murderer cast a spell on her that ceased all of her movements. She could only stand there, being forced to watch her best friend as she was beaten to death. She couldn’t even close her eyes. The purple unicorn was forced to watch Pinkie being struck again and again. Each blow splattering blood everywhere; each blow causing Pinkie’s pain to grow and grow. She was forced to listen to Pinkie’s screams for help; her screams of agony. She was forced to endure every moment of Pinkie’s murder until her life finally had been granted the mercy of death. The next thing Twilight knew is that she was now standing alone in that room with her motor skills regained. The murderer had vanished, nowhere to be found. Twilight ran over to Pinkie and tried everything in her vast arsenal of magical abilities to save her. But her life had already ended. All Twilight could do was cry over her friend's corpse. And that's all she did. She cried, and she couldn’t stop crying. Pinkie hadn’t deserved to die. She had done nothing to hurt anypony. And now here she was, brutally beaten and bloody. She kept on crying until the Cakes finally arrived home from a birthday party they had taken Pumpkin and Pound to. Mrs. Cake’s first reaction was to shield her children’s eyes from the sight. Then she screamed, along with her husband. The authorities were called, and police ponies filled the room in a matter of seconds. But Twilight didn’t care, nothing could be done. Nothing could save Pinkie Pie. Her life had ended. Nopony, not even Celestia, could change that. She refused to leave Pinkie’s body and kept weeping over her. The rest of her friends pushed their way through the crowd of ponies gathered around the shop and made their way to Twilight. They gasped in horror at what they saw. Rainbow Dash and Applejack were filled with a mixture of rage and tears. And Rarity had fainted along with Fluttershy. The police told Twilight and her friends that they had to leave. With some help from her friends, Twilight got up and left the shop, still in a state of tears. Her tears stopped however when Twilight spotted a brown unicorn stallion in the crowd of Ponies around Sugar Cube Corner. While she was forced to watch the murder, every detail of it had burned itself into Twilight’s mind; including every detail of the murdered. Every detail about him had permanently etched itself into Twilight's memory, from the exact shade of his fur right down to his cutie mark. Twilight knew there was no mistaking it, he was the one who had murdered Pinkie. Twilight acted on instinct fueled by her rage. She burst towards him without warning, using her magic she grabbed and pinned him against the wall. “YOU!” She shouted. “I’M GOING TO KILL YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID!” She tightened her grip with her magic, causing the stallion’s body to crush. Her eyes glared with fury hotter than Celestia could even think of and tears fell like waterfalls from them. Twilight would have killed him, if Applejack hadn’t tackled her and pinned her to the ground. “WHAT IN TARNATION DO YA THINK YER DOING?!” She shouted. “HE’S THE ONE!” Twilight shouted, still crying. “HE’S THE ONE THAT DID IT! HE MURDERED PINKIE PIE!” Applejack looked the stallion. “Coco Bean? Twilight, Coco Bean wouldn’t hurt a fly. Ah know him too well.” “HE’S THE ONE!” Twilight shouted again. “I SAW HIM!” The police rushed out to them. “What's going on here?!” They shouted. “HE’S THE MURDERER!” Twilight shouted. “ARREST HIM!” The police ponies looked at Coco Bean. “I’m sorry, Ms, I’m afraid we can’t do that. We don’t have any evidence that he was even near the shop when the murder took place.” “I SAW HIM! HE FROZE ME! I SAW EVERY SINGLE SECOND!” “Sugah Cube, ya’ll must be traumatized!” Applejack lifted her up. “Ya’ll don’t know what yer thinking. I’m sorry, Coco. Come on, Twilight, we need to get ya ta see somepony.” “IT WAS HIM!” Twilight shouted as she thrashed and kicked. “I SAW HIM! YOU CAN’T LET HIM GET AWAY WITH IT!” Coco Bean looked at Twilight with a smug look of victory on his face. Time passed on. Tears were shed for Pinkie Pie. She was friends with everypony in Ponyville, meaning everypony had a place in their hearts. But eventually comes the time to move on, and that’s what everypony did. They all moved on. All except Twilight. She couldn’t move on, not after what had happened. She knew Coco Bean was the one that murdered Pinkie, she knew it. But nopony believed her. And the law couldn’t do anything about it. Was this supposed to be justice? Was Coco Bean supposed to get away for what he did? No, he can’t be allowed to. But Twilight couldn’t do anything about it. She had to live every day of her life knowing that Coco Bean was going unpunished for what he had done. She never let on this to any of her friends, so they never suspected anything. She thought she was going to lose her mind, until that faithful day. It was going like any other day would. She was in the middle of her weekly reorganizing of the library. She looked at the clock and saw it was getting close to noon. Spike should be coming out to ask her what she wanted for lunch in three, two, one. And sure enough, Spike emerged from the kitchen at that exact second. He was about to ask the question that Twilight had anticipated, but he suddenly spat out a breath of green fire. A scroll materialized in his claws with the words printed on it: For the eyes of Twilight Sparkle only. “I guess this is for you.” He said, handing her the scroll. Twilight unrolled the scroll and read it to herself. Dear Twilight Sparkle, Do not ask how I sent this letter to you. Just know that I know what happened to you. I know what happened on that night last month. I know how you feel. And I want to tell you that I believe you, Twilight Sparkle. And I sympathize with you on what happened. The law has failed you, as it has failed me. Come to the Daisy Petal Diner and I will show you how you can take matters into your own hooves. I can show you how you can give Coco Bean what he deserves. I can show you how to administer true justice. Burn this letter after you read it. -T Twilight read the letter a thousand times over to make sure she had read it right. Was this really true? Was somepony offering to help her put Coco Bean in his place? Even though she had her doubts, she couldn’t pass up the chance that this might be true. She burned the letter as she was instructed and ran out the door. “I’m going to eat out with a friend for lunch today, Spike,” She shouted. “Take the rest of the day off.” She ran as fast as she could down to the Daisy Petal Diner. It was a small diner in the center of Ponyville. When she walked in she looked around for whoever this T pony was. Then she spotted her. The only pony who could have sent the letter: Trixie Lulamoon. The blue unicorn was sitting at a table with a cup of tea, staring at Twilight as she walked in the store. Twilight walked up and took a seat across from her. “Ah, Twilight Sparkle,” Trixie said as she sipped her tea. “I am glad you decided to come.” “Cut the chatter, Trixie.” Twilight said sternly. “Were you telling the truth in the letter?” “Every word of it was true, Twilight Sparkle, every word of it. When I heard about what had happened, and what you said, I believed you. I know exactly what it feels like to witness somepony murder somepony you care for and get away with it.” She started to cry a bit as she whispered “Mother.” Trixie regained her composure. “I swore that I would take the law into my own hooves then. That I would administer my own ideals of justice. And then I was given the means to. And I am giving that very same means to you, Twilight Sparkle.” She pulled out a black notebook from her saddle pack and laid it on the table in front of Twilight. Across the cover was scratched letters spelling out Death Note. “What is this, Trixie?” Twilight asked, looking at the notebook. “It is called a Death Note, Twilight. It is how I take justice into my own hooves. Read it.” Twilight opened the book and read the first page. Death Note: How to Use It The pony whose name is written in this notebook shall die. When writing a pony’s name, their face must be kept in mind. This way ponies of the same name will not be not be affected. After a name is written, a cause and time of death should be specified within forty seconds. If a cause of death is not specified the pony will simply die of a heart attack. After a cause of death is written, details of said death should be specified within six minutes. “Is this some kind of joke, Trixie?” Twilight asked looking up from the notebook. “That’s what I thought when I first discovered this as well. But I soon discovered that the Death Note’s powers are completely real.” “You’re lying, Trixie. There’s no way this can be true.” “Perhaps a demonstration is in order then?” Trixie used her magic to flip to the most recently written on page in the notebook. She used her hoof to point out the two most recent names written in the notebook. Flower Garden, Heart Attack, 12:20 PM. Veronica Sly, Concussion, 12:20 PM. Is startled by Flower Garden’s sudden death and jumps back, knocking the shelf above off the wall and causing it to land on her head. “Wait…Flower Garden, Veronica Sly? But those are…” “The ponies at the cash register right now? Yes they are.” Trixie looked at the clock, which was now reading 12:20. Suddenly the pink mare at the counter named Flower Garden gasped and collapsed on the counter. The grey mare named Veronica Sly jumped back, hitting the wall and knocking the shelf above her off of it. The blow to the head killed her. Twilight gasped and everypony else in the diner screamed, running outside. She looked at the notebook. The two mares had died exactly as was written in it. “Now do you believe that the power of the Death Note is real? Or do I need to demonstrate again?” “How could you?!” Twilight screamed. “You killed them!” “I had a reason to. You see, every time a customer pays with a credit card those two would steal the information and use it for their own gain. Now they will no longer live their lives financially ruining others.” “B-But you killed them!” “It is what I use the Death Note for, Twilight Sparkle. You may not know this from growing up in places like here and Canterlot, but the rest of this world is rotten to its core with crime. I couldn’t take it anymore. When I found this notebook, I knew that I had to be the one to cure this world of its rottenness.” “But killing ponies?! Even if they are criminals they are still ponies!” “A mindset given to you by Celestia. She is a marvelous ruler I will not deny, but she does not know how justice needs to be delivered. She does not know when to stop loving and tolerating. When justice needs to be administered, there can be no room for mercy on the wicked. I pick whom I kill carefully, mind you. I only kill those whom I think deserve death. And because of my efforts, I have had to use the Death Note less and less. But there will always be evil in this world. This is the only way to banish it for good.” “W-Why are you telling me this?!” “Because I am giving the Death Note to you, Twilight Sparkle. I’m giving it to you so that you may deal justice to Coco Bean. And also, I ask that you carry on my legacy.” “Y-Your legacy? What do you mean?” “I want you to carry on my legacy of justice because I no longer can. My life is drawing to a close.” “How do you know…” Trixie pointed to the name above Flower Garden’s. Trixie Lulamoon, Heart Attack, 12:30 PM. “I am close to being discovered. When it is found out that I can no longer administer justice, the seed of evil that I have worked so hard to stamp out will once again blossom. When I die, the special team trying to find me will lose all of their leads and will likely never trace this back to you.” “But why me?! Why are you giving this to me?!” “I have chosen you to carry on my legacy because you have felt the burns of the wicked, Twilight Sparkle. You know first-hoof how it feels for the evil to go unpunished. Now you have the power to see that they are punished for their wrong-doings.” She looked at the clock. It read 12:29. “My time is up. I hope you will carry out my legacy, Twilight Sparkle. Write Coco Bean’s name first. When he is dead, then you will know how it feels to administer true justice. Decide for yourself what you will do.” As soon as the clock struck 12:30, Trixie gasped and fell face-first onto the table. “Trixie?!” Twilight shouted. “I can’t do this, Trixie." But it was no use, Trixie was now dead. Twilight put the Death Note into her saddle pack and ran out of the Daisy Petal Diner just as the doctors arrived. She ran as fast as she could back to the library and locked herself in her room. She put the Death Note on her desk and stared at it. What was she going to do with it? Something like this, something this evil, couldn’t be allowed to exist. She should burn it. But something compelled her not to. Instead she locked it inside a drawer. Time went on. Twilight tried to push the Death Note out of her mind; but the thought just kept coming back to her. Time and time again she opened the drawer and looked at the notebook. It emitted an aura of evilness. Sometimes Twilight even found herself opening the notebook on her desk, only to lock it back up again. She didn’t know what to do with it. As time continued to pass, the thought kept eating at her mind. Then one night, while walking back home with Rarity and Fluttershy from a trip to the spa, she finally made her decision on what to do with the Death Note. “Well, that was certainly a relaxing spa day. Don’t you girls agree?” Rarity said to the other two as they walked. “Oh yes, it was.” Fluttershy said. Twilight however was miles away in her own thoughts. I can’t kill anypony. She thought to herself. It’s wrong, no matter who they are! Even if they did…kill…her… “Twilight, help!” “Twilight, darling? I asked if you thought our day was relaxing.” But is it right for me to kill him? Would solve anything? “TWILIGHT! AHH! NO! DON’T! PLEASE!” “I want you to carry out my legacy of justice.” After a cause of death is specified, details of said death should be written in the next six minutes. I could kill him in any way I wanted to… “NO! AHHH! What did I…AHH!” “There can be no room for mercy on the wicked.” “Twilight, are you ok?” “TWILIGHT! TWILIGHT!” What did Pinkie ever do to him?! She didn’t deserve to die! The only thing she ever wanted was for everypony to be happy! "Write Coco Bean’s name first. When he is dead, then you will know how it feels to administer true justice. Decide for yourself what you will do.” I will! (Stop right here, open a new tab, go to YouTube, and play "Low of Solipsism") Without any warning, Twilight started to run as fast as she could to her house, ignoring the cries of her friends. She burst through the door and straight past Spike, all the way up to her room where she slammed the door shut and locked it. She opened the drawer that the Death Note had been locked in and opened it. She used her magic to rip a quill from her ink veil so fast that it spilled onto the desk. The sins of the evil cannot go unpunished! Coco Bean I cannot let you live for what you did! Carriage accident Nor can I let anypony as evil as you are! 1:30 PM I shall carry on Trixie’s legacy! You are going to pay with your life, Coco Bean! -At exactly 1:30 PM a speeding carriage running down the street breaks a wheel while still in motion- And every other pony who dares commit a crime! -causing it to flip into the air and crush the lower half of Coco Bean’s body- I shall cleanse the world of its rotten elements! -leaving him still alive as he slowly bleeds to death- Because I am Twilight Sparkle! -with constantly increasing pain and agony- I -all while he is still conscious- Am -until he is finally granted the mercy of death. JUSTICE!
