Gamer Ponies Play Games

"Okay girls, it's game night and when a certain stallion left for Canterlot, He left behind a package." Twilight spoke out from atop the couch, just as Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack entered the room. "He said that we aren't good enough to play console games like him and Princess Luna, so I made a bet!"

"Uh... what kinda bet we talkin' bout, sugarcube?" Applejack asked, unsure of why she had come in the first place. "An' what about that package?"

Twilight levitated out a tall but thin package with a book tied to the top, "I bet him that at least four of us play through a set of twenty games all the way through. And since you three are the most adept at games, I have called you here to help." She pulled a string from a knot and undid it, causing the book to fall, but Twilight's magic kept the paper around the package. Rainbow Dash picked up the book and started to read the title aloud.

"A Pony's Guide To Video Games?" She turned the book to read the back cover, which had a box of text set in a retro 16 bit pixel style and font, "For all the beginners or "Newbs" to video games and their accessories. Authored and Illustrated by-" She gulped before continuing, "-Eon Spirit... Well, at least he knew what he was talking about."

"What's in that package Twilight?" Pinkie yelled, bouncing over to where the package still levitated. Twilight felt she could finally reveal what hid behind the thin strips and released her magical grip. As it fell, the paper seemed to disappear revealing a stack of at least fifty games, all neatly stacked.

"Well, ah guess if it's ta prove somethin' ah could play...." Applejack muttered. Twilight didn't even need to ask Rainbow or Pinkie, as they had already set up the PonyBox, got out four controllers, and were on the couch.

"What game should we play first Twi?" Rainbow wondered as Twilight read through the first chapter, "The book says that there are five basic genres of games: Platforming, Action, Horror, Simulation, and Puzzle. It then goes on to say that we should start out with an easy game from each genre. Which one do you guys wanna try first?"

"I want a fighting game!" Rainbow roared.

"I want a colorful game!" Pinkie declared.

"Ah don't know, Ah'll play whatever game ya'll pick." Applejack grunted, ashamed that she was the one of the four that didn't know anything about games, other than how to use a controller.

"I found one game that's colorful and is in the fighting sub-genre!" Twilight shouted as she stuck a disc into the small console. The screen blew up into an asortment of light as words appeared on screen. An announcer with a deep voice narrated, "SUPER SMASH PONIES" Before it sent them into a character select screen, showing eight very familiar ponies and a few characters from other games.

Pinkie squeed at the sight, bouncing in excitement, "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Look I'm in there! And so are you guys and the... Princesses? Sweet!"

Twilight picked up the game case and read through it again, "Super Smash Ponies: Harmony Edition. Now contains Elements of Harmony and Princesses."

"Well, ah guess we should start now." Applejack hopped up as she picked Mario. "He looks like a good ol' fashioned worker!"

"Oh oh, this person looks cute and cuddly!" Pinkie giggled as she picked Kirby, "And pink!"

"And I've played this guy's games, he's so fast!" Rainbow said as she picked Sonic, "Almost as fast as me!"

"I guess I'll play as her," Twilight gulped as she picked Zelda, "She is the closest match for me, after all."

As soon as Twilight picked her character, the screen flashed and the map was randomly selected. Princess Peach's Castle. They all leaned forward as the countdown timer started.

Twilight teleported Zelda next to Mario, but before she could do anything, Applejack grabbed her and sent her flying against Sonic, who was charging up a spin dash. Twilight retaliated by shooting out Din's Fire, setting both Mario and Sonic ablaze.

"Ha, you guys are no match for my... strategy?" Twilight muttered just as Zelda was sucked up by the pink blob known as Kirby. "Wha-"

"Hehe, I just ate you!" Pinkie giggled as Kirby swallowed Zelda, making a crown and long hair to appear on his head. "And now I look like you!"

Pinkie flew over to Mario and Sonic who were currently fighting and decided to use her new power. After pressing B, a blue diamond surrounded her and bashed both Mario and Sonic(whose fighting had raised their damage percent way high) away and knocked them out of the arena. But she wasn't safe as Zelda had grabbed a hold of her and proceeded to throw her off the screen as well.

"So, Pinkie has two and Twilight has one. I gotta step up my game!" Rainbow Dash yelled as her and Applejack made a silent pact to work together and respawned. Mario shot a fire ball at Zelda, whose flinch gave Sonic just enough time to charge a homing attack and hit her, sending the princess flying off screen.

"Oh my Celestia!" Twilight grunted, already frustrated.

"Calm down, Egghead, You only died once." Rainbow tried to console Twilight(Half-hoofedly) and Twilight responded with a groan.

The second Zelda spawned, Kirby used Nayru's Love and sent her flying, right into a Spindash. Zelda was shot high in the air, but not off screen, to Twilight's delight. Soon Zelda had landed but, instead of attacking, Twilight held Down and B, Making the princess transform into her ninja form: Sheik. She teleported and appeared next to the other three, who had been fighting, but the explosion caused all three of them to go flying.

"....Lucky shot." Rainbow muttered before making Sonic Spindash attack at Sheik, who dodged it, only for Mario to smash attack her, sending her flying off screen.

"CELESTIA DAMMIT!" Twilight screamed.

"WHAT AM I DAMNING?!" Roared a thunderous echo of Celestia.

Twilight ignored the princess and continued to play, quickly being sucked by kirby. But, instead of being swallowed, Kirby waddled to the side, with Zelda still in his mouth, and jumped off the ledge, Killing them both.

"If I was going down, I was taking you with me!" Pinkie yelled, mocking an action voice.

Twilight looked away from the screen to see the three mares bundled together, laughing their tails off. "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" She screamed, lunging at the three girls.

"Okay, that was a bad game to start off with." Twilight stated, breaking the game disc in half. She turned to see her friends on the couch, each with a bandage on their heads. "What should we play next, girls?"
