//-------------------------------------------------------// Site Overseer O5 - 1: Personal Logs -by Lucky Strife- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Log date 5/5/1401 //-------------------------------------------------------// Log date 5/5/1401 Log date 5/5/1401 I have decided to begin keeping a personal record of my thoughts and experiences when it comes to the phenomenon known as the SCP. For a long period of time now I have been… sneered at by my colleagues for my audacity to break some of the key foundation rules. Namely those that state no Overseer will ever come close to being in contact with the SCP. Ever. They see me almost as a rebel, to put it one way. Somepony looking to overthrow the old ways of doing things… even though I’m the one who helped set up most of the rules they now abide by. Perhaps back in my youth when I first joined this foundation it would have been proper to label me as a ‘rebel’ or an ‘upstart’, but I hold firm to the belief that I can’t understand the SCPs simply by just reading papers about them anymore. After all, I’ve been studying SCPs since before they were born; who do they think they get most of their information from? It seems most of my colleagues feel that I have procured myself a death wish in my extended life, that the constant contact I keep with the SCPs is me looking for an excuse to just end it all. I would say these views are short-sighted, as in my years with this foundation several hundred attempts on my life have been made by various tests and SCPs and they have yet to be successful. I could say I did have a death wish at one point in my life, but time and study have long since worn away any desire to see this earthly frame just vanish now. There’s too much to do, too much to research, and far too much to protect. Though I suppose I’m wandering from my point, I have a habit of doing that. In my many years of being at the SCP Foundation I have never once desired to keep a personal log. With how many files I must go through, the hours of research and study, deciding on approval of literally thousands of experiments, from a simple time standpoint there was almost none to be diverted to filling out such an unneeded amount of extra paperwork. There had to be a good reason and I just never found a good one until recently. Now I have two reasons to make them. The first is to put the worries of my peers to rest, to assure them that when it comes to me bending the rules to interact with the SCPs that I know what I’m doing. They understand the importance of secrecy in the SCP foundation better than anyone. The second reason actually comes from a conversation I had from a D - Class personnel that made me realize something that I hadn’t realized in a long, long time. It all began when Site 19 contacted me. As per my request they called to inform me that something major had been noticed with SCP – 173 and as per my request they contacted me immediately. I had them put SCP – 173 under constant surveillance until I arrived. Upon arrival they quickly escorted me to his containment cell. They had roughly 8 D - Class personnel on constant surveillance, and upon spotting SCP – 173 it was easy to spot why they had called me. One of its leg’s was bent an inch from its normal position. For as long as it had been observed it had kept a constant pose even during movement. There were already several scientists investigating, taking several detailed notes and trying to ascertain what was new. Of course I immediately began to take notes myself, such a phenomenon was likely a once in a lifetime event, even for someone with a lifespan as long as mine. Study continued for several hours, more D – Class personnel were introduced to keep a constant observation on the subject. I gathered my notes and was satisfied with the conclusions we had come up with. As I turned to leave, one of the D – Class stopped me and asked if it was alright to ask something. Rather curious as to what this pony had to say, I allowed them to speak. They told me that before they had been sentenced to death that they never knew any of this existed, that these special creatures were even weirder than any myth or legend they had heard of. They wanted to know if this was really what the world was like. Their words gave me pause. I looked over their person. The D – Class was a mare, not particularly beautiful but certainly not ugly. An emerald coat with a darker green mane and a broken heart for a cutie mark. They looked to be in their late 30s and had an appearance that couldn’t hurt a fly (though I’ve come to know better over my years, appearances are the most deceiving of all). Thinking over their question, I asked something you almost never ask a D – Class. I asked them their name. Lilac Summer. An unusual name, but it was hers. Once I let this unusual feeling settle in, I gave them the response I had trained in my head. That this is the real world. That these creatures exist and we are the only things between them and the world outside. We secure, we contain, and we protect. I’ve done this for almost 400 years now, giving the same answers to the same types of ponies again and again (though I’ve long lost track of how much time has passed for myself). But something about this particular D – Class struck something inside of me that I didn’t quite realize I’d been missing… or perhaps it was just that I was feeling sentimental in my old age. I’ve been doing this job for so long, seen so many new faces come and go, so many gruesome deaths, and so many unexplained events that eventually you begin to numb to the fact. But Lilac stirred something in me that day. She asked me if it was okay to know my name. I gave her the usual response, that it’d be better if she didn’t know that and to just continue her duty. But I do have a name. A name I don’t hear very often anymore. Usually I’m called Overseer or O5 – 1 or Site Director. A name back when I didn’t live underground all day, when I enjoyed the fresh air constantly, when I had many friends who I had fun with, when I didn’t know that these things existed and we needed to be protected from them. So long ago did I used to have a name I loved hearing be called out. My name was Twilight Sparkle. But I suppose now I’m Overseer and Site Director O5 – 1, and I will be for as long as I continue to live. And that is the second reason for why I am doing these personal logs. To hold onto that last bit of who I used to be. To still be “Twilight Sparkle” somewhere, to let myself push past the emotional burdens and walls I’ve set up for myself during my time of researching and filing papers. So that anyone who reads this can see that there is still a bit of pony left inside this broken, shattered shell. SCP – 173 was experimented on for a total of 15 hours before his containment cell was resealed. The usual scrapping of cement could be heard from the chamber once more, and upon examination of the creature it had returned back to its prior stance. Continued research will document what could have possibly caused the partial movement abnormality in the creature and whether or not it can be replicated. SCP – 173 must now be thoroughly checked for any abnormal movements before the D – Class personnel finish attending to his cell. End log entry. //-------------------------------------------------------// Clearance //-------------------------------------------------------// Clearance Requesting access to personal logs of Site Overseer O5-1 Security Level 5 Clearance and O5 – 1 approval are required in order to read the following documents.
