Fallout Equestria: Brotherhood Bonds.
War… war never changes.
When the atomic apocalypse struck, the stables protected pony life. When the Stables opened, the wasteland was all that greeted them… all except Stable 101. It closed, and never opened again. This is where they were raised, the two who changed the equestrian wasteland for the better. Two legends, two hero’s… two killers.
Prologue: Growing up.
The foals looked up at the figure above them. It was hard to see due to the light behind the stallion’s head.
“lets see… are you colts’ or fillies…?”
The blue child tilted his head at the figure, the grey and green one laughed.
“They’re boys! We did it Tailor! Two healthy baby colts’!”
“Oh…” the mare to the stallion’s left moaned. “We did it Beaker… two colts… ah-ha…”
“Hey there boys… I’m your daddy! Daddy.” The stallion waved a hoof close to the foals. The blue one grabbed his hoof and looked at it closely.
“Ha ha! Curious aren’t you? Well, your mother and I have been talking. What do you think about… Wanderer?”
The foal’s ears went up, and he looked the stallion in the eyes… and smiled.
“That’s a good name, don’t you think?” The stallion pulled his hoof away and looked at the mismatched one. “and you… how about Courier?” the foal laughed. The stallion returned the laugh. “I wonder… it’s a big world out there, lots of different ponies. But what about you two? What kind of ponies will you be?”
“B… Beaker… Something’s…” The heart rate monitor on the mare started beeping erratically.
“Tailor? Tailor! She’s going into cardiac arrest! Get the foals out of here!” The cart the foals were on started moving, the newly named Courier started crying, Wanderer just looked into the light.
1 year later…
“Don’t look right at the light Wanderer. You’ll hurt your eyes.” Wanderer blinked and looked at his father, the stallion was sitting over by a play pen. “Its just something you get used to down here.”
Water Beaker was a green Unicorn stallion with a disheveled brown mane and beard. He wore a scientists outfit over his Stable jumpsuit and Pip-buck. His cutie mark was a row of water beakers of various colors, and his eyes were a bright green that carried the look of a stallion who had seen some things, both good and bad.
“Come over here! Walk to daddy!” Beaker started clapping his hooves together and motioned for the foals to come over.
Courier, who had been playing with a rattle, started to wobbly stand up on his hooves. In a short time, he was slowly walking over to his father.
Courier was a grey and green unicorn foal with bright green eyes. What little of His mane and tail that had grown in were white, but had a tinge of brown on them, like a layer of dust had settled. For some reason, you would look at him, and you would just want to giggle. He was small, like most foals, but seemed to be more energetic then most foals.
“What about you Wanderer?”
Wanderer was a dark blue, with white mane, tail, and eyes. His horn seemed to be longer then Courier’s, and he carried an aura of calmness with him. He was a size or two bigger then Courier, and carried a silent expression.
He didn’t seem to have as much trouble as Courier, appearing to be a natural at it. When they both got inside the play pen, Courier jumped at his father and wrapped his tiny hooves around him in a hug, mumbling “Dada.”
“Look at you! A year old and already your both walking like pro’s.” His smile faltered a little. “Your mother would have been so proud…” with a quick shake Beaker’s smile returned. He stood up and set Courier down, walking around him and Wanderer. “Listen, I know you two hate it when I leave you alone, but daddy’s got to take care of something. Just stay here while I run down to my office.” He closed the gate behind him with his magic and walked out the room.
Courier looked at Wanderer, who returned the gaze. Wanderer’s horn glowed a dark blue, and the gate opened.
Courier Hopped out, while Wanderer walked calmly out. The grey foal hopped right into the toy box, and tossed out a teddy bear. Wanderer’s eyes shot open, and he rushed forward and hugged it like it was a long lost relative… until he spotted the book.
"Your Special!
Being naturally curious, Wanderer trotted over and read it.
“S is for Strength, and that means I am strong! I can carry lots of toys and swing stuff all day long!
P is for Perception, a long funny word! It means what I tasted, smell, saw and heard!
E is for Endurance, and that's how long I can play! I'm always really healthy, and have energy all day!
C is for Charisma, Its why ponies think I’m great! I make my friends all laugh and smile, and never want to hate!
I is for intelligence, it means I’m really smart! I use my brain for lots of stuff, like science, math and art!
A is for agility, and that’s how I get around! I move real fast and easy, and never make a sound!
L is for Luck, and it’s simple, you see! It means good things always happen to me!”
Wanderer tilted his head, and started to try and say the last word. “L… l… la-” The door opened, and Water Beaker walked in. Wanderer looked up at his father and grinned sheepishly, and Courier popped his head out of the toy box.
“Well, aren’t you two little explorers. Serve me up for trying to pen you in.” Beaker laughed, patting Wanderer on the head. Courier hopped out of the box and onto the back of his father. “Ha ha! Hello there Courier! What were you and your brother up to?” Courier just babbled, with the word “Dada” and mixed in here and there.
“Mama.” Wanderer suddenly said, looking up at Beaker with a curious expression on his face. Beaker looked down at his foal with a surprised expression on his face.
“…I guess there’s something I could show you two. Come here.” He walked over to a picture frame next to the box.
“Its from something called the bible. 21;6 I think It was.” He said, gesturing to the page in the frame.
“I am the alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end. I shall give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life, freely.
Revelation 21;6.”
“Your mother always loved that…” Wanderer looked at the framed page with intense interest. ‘Hm… I swear… if I didn’t know better, I would say he understands what he’s reading.’ Beaker silently mused to himself.
“Come on boys. Lets go see if your little friend Air Dance wants to play.” Courier laughed again, and Wanderer nodded.
9 years later…
“SURPRISE!”
“GAH! MY EYES!” Courier yelled while covering his eyes from the sudden bright light. Wanderer’s hoof shot up to cover his own eyes.
“Breeze, ya turned the lights on to fast! Ya blinded the poor kids!” The security officer Shatter Bolt scolded Cool Breeze, who was rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment.
“A party?” Wanderer blinked. Courier put his hooves down and flashed his trade mark grin.
The years that had past had made
“Happy birthday!” a round of applause sounded from the dining room.
The room was relatively small and simple. There was two large tables in the center of the room, and two small tables in the corner. Another corner was occupied by the bar, and the last one had a small window.
“Congratulations boys. Already, your ten years old each, growing up so fast aren’t you?” Beaker said while rubbing both their heads. “If only your mother…”
“Well, congratulations you two!” The Overseer said as he trotted up to the two. The overseer was a black unicorn stallion with a speaker cutie mark. He had a simple black mane and tail which was combed back. He had a few wrinkles, but seemed like an average stallion.
Wanderer’s posture stiffened while Courier rolled his eyes. “I don’t think I need to tell you how important this day is. You see, here in Stable 101, when you turn ten, you start to take some more official Stable responsibilities. So with that, I present to you both your very own Pip-buck 3000’s.” he levitated out two Pip-bucks. Both foals grabbed them out of the air and set them to their wrists. The instant they did, white bar’s filled their vision, which Courier pawed at a little. “Get used to them. You’ll be getting your first work assignment tomorrow.” The overseer laughed, and Courier shot him a glare that could melt ice.
“Don’t joke about that on our birthday.”
“B-but for now, enjoy today! Ah ha…” The overseer chuckled nervously, and backed away from the colt. 'I swear that boy is going to murder me… thank Celestia that his brother holds him back.’ The overseer thought in the back of his head.
Wanderer stepped forward towards his and Courier’s best-and probably only-friend Air Dance.
Air Dance was-in Wanderer’s opinion- the most beautiful pony he had ever laid eyes on. Her red coat, brown eyes and black mane tied in a pony tail just made her even more perfect in his eyes. She was no bigger then any other foal, and
“Happy birthday you two!” Dance giggled. Wanderer always thought it sounded like the clearest of bells. “Your dad was worried you were onto us. But I knew at least one of you would be alright. Courier is SO easy to fool.” She pointed at Courier, who had gone back to pawing at the Eyes Forward Sparkle bars filling his vision and asking Officer Bolt for help.
“Well, he’s not that dumb. But he isn’t sharp. You should have seen when I was reading advanced math, His eyes were spinning!” Both he and Air Dance laughed at that.
“Well, now for your birthday present. Take a guess at what it is!”
“Um… no idea.” Wanderer sheepishly grinned.
“I knew I would surprise you.” She took a magazine in her teeth and held the cover up to Wanderer.
“I-is that… Science today?!” Wanderer grinned like a mad stallion.
“Yes! And for your brother.” She pulled out a comic. “hhy Cuuriur!” She said through the comic.
“What-” Courier’s eyes light up like a hearths warming eve tree. “GROGNACK THE BARBARIAN!” He yelled in excitement. Everypony in the room looked at him weird. “Heh… sorry.” Courier ran over and put the comic in his jumpsuit.
After a minute, and a bit of socializing. A Mister gusty robot floated in, towards the cake. The mister gutsy model of robot was along the lines of a floating ball. A thruster on the bottom, three eyes, and small skinny arms were the only things between it and a metal ball.
“Alright everypony! Its time to cut the cake!” The buzz saw on one of the robots arms spun up.
“Andy! no!” Air Dance yelled, but it was too late. The saw decimated the cake, leaving nothing salvageable.
“NUUUU, NOT THA CAKE!” Courier yelled in horror, with some of the cake splattered on him.
“Andy… why in Equestria…?” Wanderer Face hoofed from his table in the corner of the room.
“Oh dear. Terribly sorry sirs.” Andy responded.
“Why the cake…?” Courier seemed to be getting ready to burst into comical tears.
“Oh dear… Courier? I have something for you!” Old lady Lilly said. Courier zipped over to her with hope in his eyes.
“Cake?”
“Oh no, sorry dear.” Courier’s ears drooped and he looked even more sad. “But I do have a sweet roll.”
“Eh?” Courier tilted his head.
“Here you go!” Lilly set the sweet roll next to Courier, who snatched it up with his magic.
“Thank you Miss!” Courier said, with a huge smile on his face. He gave Lilly a hug and trotted away.
“Hey, nosebleed!” Courier heard behind him.
“Oh Luna spare me…” He turned around with a very forced smile. “Hello Trim Down.”
Trim Down was a long time bully for Wanderer and Courier. He was an orange Earth pony colt with a purple mane that had a red streak through it. He was, in short terms, a jerk, and both Courier and his brother found him the most annoying colt in the entire stable.
“I have a problem nosebleed. I’m hungry, that stupid robot destroyed the cake. And you just got a sweet roll.”
“No. If you want some I can split it in half and share it.
“Share it? What are you, Five? hoof it over!”
“Go soak your head Trim Down. I’m not giving you my sweet roll.” Courier’s response to that statement was a punch to the face.
“Courier!” Wanderer yelled, tensing up.
“Trim down! What are you doing?!” Shatter Bolt yelled.
“Oh! Officer Shatter Bolt! What’s up?” Trim Down said with a forced grin and fear in his eyes.
Wanderer walked up to Courier, who was checking his nose. “You okay?”
“Yea. Not bleeding again, that’s a good thing.” Courier sighed.
“You okay boys?” Shatter Bolt said, having left Trim Down with a major warning.
“Yes sir.” Wanderer said almost automatically.
“Jerk off tried to steal mah sweet roll!” Courier comically yelled, throwing his front hooves into the air.
“Knew it. The colt has been nothing but trouble the day he was born!” Shatter Bolt sighed. “Don’t worry, I’ll try and make sure he doesn’t bug you again.”
“That’s going to be a problem.” Courier sighed. He and Wanderer sat down in a table at the corner of the room.
“What did you say to him?” Wanderer asked
“Told him ‘go soak your head.’” Courier sighed as he split the roll in half.
“That is the most tame thing you have said to Trim in a long time.” Wanderer said while taking one half of the roll and starting to chew on it.
“Oh come on. I cant be that bad can I?”
“You once accused his mother of drinking up all the ration coupons.” Wanderer deadpanned.
“Okay you got me there.” Courier sighed. “What’s his problem anyway?”
“It might have to do with the fact that I’m a bit of a nerd.” Wanderer said, rubbing his ear.
“Amen to that brudda.”
…
“Read that comic yet?” Wanderer said, while pulling up his own book again.
“Huh? Oh yea!” Courier pulled the Grognak the barbarian comic.
Wanderer looked down at his book, starting on the part labeled “Q&A: are there any situations in which pharmaceuticals and medications are okay to use?” with an interested ‘Hm.’
…
“Hey Wanderer?”
“Hm?”
“What’s up with these bars in my eyes?” Courier pointed at the bars in his vision. To anypony else, it looked like he pointed at a wall.
“That’s the Eyes forward sparkle, or E.F.S. To put it simply, its something like a heads up display. Lets you know how healthy you are, how many shots you can put in S.A.T.S, and the occasional pop up every now and again.”
“You just turned ten today and you know that?”
“I didn’t fall asleep in class. Do you even know what S.A.T.S is?”
“Stable-tech assisted targeting system. Its meant to make the most accurate shots depending on the skill of the user.” Courier listed off with a sarcastic expression on his face.
“Wow… and yet you missed everything else.”
“Dude, it helps fire guns. I’m all for it!” Courier grinned again, and Wanderer chuckled. “The only things I really got out of that class was S.A.T.S and the Geiger counter.” Courier stated.
“indeed.” Wanderer agreed.
“Hey boys!” Water Beaker said as he walked up to the two brothers. They responded with their own greetings. “How’s it going so far? Your nose okay Courier?”
“A bit sore, but alright.” Courier rubbed his nose a little at that.
“Well, Radheart and I have been working on a surprise for you two. She should be down in the generator level-” Courier vanished with a puff of dust, running towards the stairs. By the time Water Beaker had gained his bearings Courier was already in the generator room.
The generator level was like a lot of the stable, grey, simple, nothing that can catch somepony’s eye. The big difference was the large generator in the center of the room, hence the name. Courier liked looking at it a lot. for some reason, he always just stared straight at it whenever he snuck in there.
Courier was shaken out of his staring contest with the chunk of machinery by Wanderer. “Courier? COURIER!”
“What?”
“You were staring at the generator again.”
“Well, what are you doing down here?” Another pony asked.
The new voice was, of course, Radheart. Radheart was a white colored earth pony mare with a simple green mane. Her cutie-mark looked like a juice box with the simple words “Rad-away” on it, and a bottle with a red liquid inside. Her eyes were a slight tinge red.
“Children aren’t supposed to be down here.” She said with a slight disapproving look in her eyes.
“Oh… but… dad said we could come down here…” Wanderer looked down guiltily, wondering why Radheart was saying that. Courier however…
“Hey! We’re not kids! We’re ten!” …was waving his hooves in the air with a look of indignation on his face.
“He heh, I’m kidding you two.” Wanderer sighed in relief at that while Courier adopted a ‘are you serious?’ face. “The doctor should be down here soon. I think he wants to give you your presents himself.” Radheart rubbed the head of Wanderer, who smiled slightly.
After a short moments of Courier examining the generator again, Water Beaker came in. He barely got his greeting for Radheart out of the way before Courier was in front of him, bouncing on his hooves eagerly.
“sowhatsthegift?! Whatsthegift?!” Courier chanted excitedly, bouncing around his dad with audible ‘Boing!’ sounds.
“Ha hah! Calm down son!” Courier sat down to that, but he still looked like he was about to explode from his excitement. “Are you sure I didn’t make the male reincarnation of the ministry mare Pinkie Pie?” Water Beaker said with a laugh.
“I don’t caaaaaaaaaaare about thaaaat! WHATSTHEGIFT?!”
“Alright! Alright! Ha hah…” He rummaged around in his saddlebags, and pulled out…
“Here you go! Your own BB guns!”
Courier emitted a large gasp, with a grin that looked like it could tear his face in half spreading on his mouth. He snatched one of them with his magic and started bouncing around the generator singing “♪I got a BB gun!♪”
“Me and Radheart found them in the back of the lab, strangely. They were a little banged up, but we managed to fix them.” Wanderer took the other one, still in his dads magic. “Do you know how hard it is to find a spring small enough for these? Good thing Trim down “Misplaced” that switchblade of his.” While his dad laughed, Wanderer smirked internally. Thinking 'how’s Karma taste trim down?'
“Wait.” Courier said, stopping on the other side of the room. With a quick run, he was beside Wanderer again. “We cant shoot here.”
Water nodded “Not here, but…” he got up and opened a door adjacent to the generator. It lead to a medium sized room with boxes set up, and at the end of it seemed to be a makeshift target range. “You can shoot here. Anytime you like.”
“wow… thanks Dad!” Wanderer said with happiness clear in his voice. Courier was nuzzling his father.
“Well, why don’t you go ahead and shoot some?” Beaker gestured over to the makeshift barrier made with a crate. Behind it was three targets, and on top of it was two tins of BB’s,
Courier snatched one of the tins up, and loaded some in. Wanderer did about the same. The room was filled with small bangs as the two brothers shot the targets in succession. Courier noticed movement out of the corner of his eye. He looked over there to see-
“GAH!” He threw the gun into the air and fell back in surprise.
“Radroach.” Water sighed. The Radroach was exactly what it sounded like; a mutated cockroach. very big, and very mean. “Think you two can take it out with your BB guns?”
Courier didn’t need any more encouragement. He snagged the gun out of the air and shot the gun at the same time as Wanderer. Both BB’s hitting it caused a quick death. Courier shuddered, clutching his BB gun like a stuffed teddy bear. Wanderer grinned.
“Nice work!” Both colts were taken into a hug by their father.
“T-thanks…” Wanderer mumbled, a slight blush on his face.
“I never wanna see a Radroach again.” Courier said, returning the hug.
“Hey Radheart, take a picture with the big game hunters here!” Courier looked at Wanderer, who returned the gaze. Both nodded with a slight grin. They slipped out of their father’s grasp and zipped off in different directions. After about thirty seconds of waiting, Wanderer popped up under his dad, and Courier popped up beside’s Redheart with a camera, before bouncing over and onto the back of his dad.
“B-boys!” Water Beaker said with a laugh, remembering their little routine for getting their picture taken.
Radheart laughed, and then pulled up the camera. “Well, smile!”
Wanderer and Courier did exactly that, flashing almost blinding grins. The camera flashed brightly.
6 years later…
“…as far as I can tell, you’re a perfectly healthy 16 year old. So yes, you have to go to find out what your cutie mark is.” Water Beaker said, looking over Courier, who had claimed to have gotten sick.
In the 6 years that had passed, Courier had gotten slightly skinnier. His mane remained disheveled, similar to the ministry mare Rainbow Dash’s mane. His charisma hadn’t taken a hit at all though. In fact, it seemed to be better, making nearly everypony happy when he stepped into a room. He also had taken a habit of leaving the front of his stable jumpsuit open, making look more akin to a jacket.
“But-but- aw forget it.” He sighed “Do I really have to do this?” Courier sighed, looking at his dad with a slight shimmer in his eye.
“Yes. Your not changing my mind on this. Besides, I hear its more embarrassing to not have a cutie mark by this point.”
“Oh okay.” Courier said, nodding with a thoughtful look on his face. “Well… wish us luck.”
“Love you son.” Courier left, finding Wanderer outside, reading another science today magazine.
“Wasn’t fooled either eh?” Wanderer said, looking at him with a smug look on his face.
“Ah shad up.” Courier shot back.
Wanderer had also grown. his mane was trimmed some, Not completely organized, but in better shape then Courier’s. He also had gained quite a bit of muscle, his chest bulking out. The calmness he showed was a yin to Courier’s yang, and he seemed to have an air of small respect.
Wanderer chuckled at his brother. “Well, come on. Lets get on with it.”
They both walked out of the clinic. It took less then thirty seconds to get to the auditorium at a slow walk. They found four more ponies outside though.
“Will you leave me alone you stupid tunnel snakes?!” Air dance yelled, being surrounded by Trim down and his two “Friends.”
“How ‘bout I show you a real tunnel snake eh?” Trim down said, laughing.
Trim down was medium sized by stallion standards. His mane was slicked back, and carried quite a bit of shine due to hair gel. He also wore a black jacket with a snake on the back over his standard vault jumpsuit, a signature of his small gang.
Air Dance groaned in frustration, at which point Wanderer stepped in. “What’s going on here?”
“None of your concern.” Trim down retorted.
“Oh I think it is some of my concern, because your harassing my best friend Trim Down.”
“listen bud, I don’t think you understand your position here. Now get out of here before-”
“Things get violent? I think its safe to say that its already come to that.” Wanderer said, cracking his neck.
“Well, come on guys. Looks like he needs another less-” Trim Down was cut off with a hoof to his face.
His friends started to try and help him, but Courier practically appeared in front of them.
“I’m sorry, but I do believe this is a fight between my brother and your boss only?”
“Out of the way pipsqueak!” One of the two colts said, which made something click in Courier’s head.
“Nopony. Calls me. Pipsqueak.” Courier spun around and delivered a buck to the offending colt’s face, and then before the other one could even blink he delivered another buck to his face.
“Guys! Stop it!” Air Dance yelled at the group. Her yells fell on deaf ears as Wanderer kept dealing hard hits and Courier moved faster then any of the two colts could keep up with. Eventually, the fight ended when Wanderer delivered a hard buck to Trim Down’s nose and Courier tricked his two lackeys to punch each other in the face. All three were on the ground groaning.
“Fine fine… we’ll leave the girl alone… not worth our time anyway.” Trim Down said, walking into the auditorium with a nose bleed, his cronies behind.
“You okay?” Both of the brothers asked at the same time, which caused them both to give each other odd looks.
“Yea… thanks you two.” Air Dance sighed and shook her head a little. “I don’t get why they wont leave me alone! just cause I’m the overseer’s daughter I guess!”
“They just want attention. I guess we either deprive them of it or give them the attention they don’t want.” Wanderer stated with a hint of exhaustion. Air dance nodded and walked into the auditorium, with the two brothers on either side of her.
The auditorium was filled with booths with various signs above them, giving some more color to the normally grey room. The trio nodded to each other and all left for different booths. Wanderer heading for the science booth.
He noticed a familiar face behind said booth. “Hey! Ms. Radheart!”
Radheart looked up to him, and grinned. “Hey there Wanderer! Glad to see you!”
“Same here!” The calm aura Wanderer had seemed to vanish somewhat in place of happiness.
“I assume you’re here to see what your cutie mark will be?” Radheart asked, to which Wanderer responded with a childish grin and nodding. “Well, how about a healing potion?”
The second she finished saying that, Wanderer started rifling through the ingredients on the booth table. It took him thirty seconds to find the right ingredients, another thirty to get the beaker at the right temperate, and one more minute to find a shortcut around the standard making time for healing potions. Radheart just looked at him with surprise and smiled brightly when she noticed that Wanderer didn’t even mind the bright flash on his flank, being so absorbed in explaining everything about a healing potion and how his shortcut worked.
“…And if I heat the beaker up to 450 degrees instead of the recommended 200 degrees, I decrease the time needed to finish making the potion by- why are you grinning Ms. Radheart?” Wanderer said, cutting off mid-lecture after noticing Radheart’s grin. The question made her burst into laughter.
“L-look!” She said in between giggles, pointing at Wanderer’s flank. What Wanderer saw there made his eyes widen with surprise.
It was a blue shield with a beaker on it, the beaker had a green chemical in it, and had a red cross on it. It was his cutie mark.
“YES!” He yelled, jumping into the air. He bounced around the table a bit with a huge grin on his face.
Courier perked his ears up as he heard the cheer of his brother. Half of him grinned at the fact that his brother had likely gotten his cutie mark, but the other half was jealous that his brother had gotten it first, while he was still putting together a toaster.
Courier had gone to the repair and maintenance booth, and was trying to put together a toaster. He found what was wrong with it almost right away, the heating coils had been knocked a little loose, likely from a fall. He sighed loudly, and he spared a glance to the rest of the room. Various booths were scattered around, some centered around cooking, maintenance, a shooting range, a barber shop-
'wait- shooting range?!' Courier’s eyes shot back to the area he thought he saw a shooting range was in, just to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. 'nap, I’m fine in the head.' With a small squee, he quickly finished fixing up the toaster, and practically popped up in front of the booth.
“HI!”
“GAH!” The pony behind the booth yelled, falling back. “Jeez kid, don’t startle me like that…” He said, holding a hoof over his heart and trying to get back up.
“Oh, sorry there- OFFICER SHATTER BOLT?!” Courier shouted after seeing who was at the booth.
“Courier?!” Shatter Bolt exclaimed back.
“…well, I don’t think either of us expected this eh?” Courier said after an awkward cough.
“yea, I think so… you here to try and get your cutie mark?”
“aren’t we all?” Courier responded with a shrug.
“not any of the adults.” Shatter Bold said, to which Courier simply shot back his trademark poker face. “alright alright… let me get a-” Courier was gone before Shatter bolt could finish his sentence. “Er…. Courier?”
Courier popped up again with his BB gun held by the barrel in his mouth, a huge grin looking like it was about to split his face, and his tail wagging a little.
“…well okay then.” Shatter Bolt said, his face carrying a confused expression. ‘ever since he showed up in the stable, this place has become a lot weirder.’ “Well… how well can you shoot?”
Courier nodded and took the gun in his magic. He loaded a few BB’s and proceeded to shoot all three targets… multiple times. With multiple bull’s eye’s. Shatter Bolt just looked on with an amazed look on his face. He glanced over to Courier just in time to see a bright flash appear on his flank. When Courier stopped, it was when his BB’s ran out.
“Well, how did I do?” Courier asked with an adorable smile on his face.
“I don’t know, why don’t you check your cutie mark?” Shatter bolt said with a grin.
Courier made a small confused noise, then turned to check his flank. He let out a small strangled gasp at what he saw.
A mark made up of a wrench and a hunting rifle. On both carried a hoof with small wings on it. His cutie mark.
“hapah… mah… holah…” He jabbered incoherently for a moment, and shook like he was going to explode. A grin continued to grow, making Shatter Bolt more and more worried.
“Er… kid… you okay?” Shatter Bolt said, holding a hoof on Courier’s shoulder.
“YES!” Courier shouted, jumping into the air and zipping off.
He only stopped when he appeared in front of Wanderer.
“I got my cutie mark!” Both of them said at the same time. They both stopped and, after a moment of silence, both fell on the ground laughing. The chuckles echoed throughout the auditorium, and everypony there felt a strange sense of happiness.

“So? What did my son’s get? Water asked the overseer, who had just finished talking with the two brothers.
“It looks like they both get part time jobs in different professions. But both I see working in the security force.” He said with a smile.
“and the other jobs?”
“Courier will likely work in maintenance and deliver some messages throughout the vault. Wanderer will probably work with you and Ms. Radheart in the clinic.” Water smiled at this.
“My sons… they grow up so fast don’t they?”
“I should know, and they both seem to be getting along well with Air Dance. I heard about a fight they got in with Trim Down’s little gang.”
Water sighed at this. ‘so headstrong… if only they had more ponies like you…’ “Thank you overseer.”

“…Hey Wanderer?” Courier said, looking up at the ceiling from his bed.
“What is it Courier?” Wanderer responded, sitting up in his own bed.
“I’ve been meaning to tell you… I’ve had some weird dreams.” Courier said, sighing. “Its… well, us. But we both look different, your wearing this armor that makes you look like a walking tank, and I’m wearing an armored vault uniform. We’re both traveling some giant… wasteland. going around helping ponies and stopping bad guys… its like some slightly twisted colt’s fairy tale. Its got me thinking… what’s outside the vault?” Courier continued.
“…I don’t know. But what matters is right now.” Wanderer said, laying back down.
“true dat my brother.” Courier sighed.
Both nodded a quick goodnight to each other and fell asleep. Courier continued to think about what his dream’s meant, and worrying about what he neglected to tell his brother.
When he described the dream’s, his left ear twitched. The last thought Courier had that night before falling asleep was ‘…is that our future?’
