All was quaint in the bustling city of Canterlot as the many ponies enjoyed Heart and Hooves Day. They pranced around and sat in outdoor restaurants that sported a view of the magnificent castle that towers above. Everyone enjoyed themselves, even the ones that had nopony to spend it with. Sounds filled the air with that of joy and love... Especially those who didn't soundproof the rooms to their apartment, either the lack of magic or the landlord simply forgot to.
However, there was always a few ponies that despised the holiday itself for varying reasons. They were most likely old hags who had nopony to love them but then again, there were other reasons, like when they have no one they can think of to spend their time with. One of those ponies was one of stellar beauty, grace, power and anything a stallion or mare would like in a pony. However, they also feared her, past acts having left an impression on society, leaving them to think of them as a monster. That one perfect example, was the mistress of the night herself, Princess Luna.
Yes, many of you are thinking, why hasn't she already gotten a special somepony for herself, even though it's been YEARS since her return? Frankly, nopony has any idea. Not even that crazy maniac who lives inside a 'Police Box' and for some odd reason knows everything, including 9 billion languages.... Digression aside, Princess Luna has always been a lonesome soul. Her own attitude of no leverage to anything is one of the main contributing traits, seeing as how she rules the courts, most ponies usually lose a case because of failed bribery attempts.
However, this didn't go unnoticed by her older sibling. Celestia watched Luna through the years, happy that she has made much progress within the public's eye, and yet saddened to see her sulk around the castle whenever a Hearts and Hooves or an especially depressing day comes by. Luna would usually stare off into space with a longing stare and whenever she snapped out of it, she drooped her head and hid behind her mane. And if a servant or guard listened close enough, they could hear a very faint sob come from the Lunar Hall of the castle during the night.
Now, it was Hearts and Hooves Day, and Celestia intended for Luna to finally meet the perfect... Whatever Luna was into. Discussing with several T.V. management officials and the national treasury, she finally made her fool-proof plan to make Luna the happiest mare in the world.
It was late night and the royal courts were to be called off for the day, as Hearts and Hooves left many dealing with their significant others. Sulking through the hallways to her room, the princess of the night held her head low, her face obscured by her night sky mane. Guards stood at attention, regulars noticing the look and giving a subtle sigh when she was out of hearing range. Luna finally made her journey to her door when a golden light surrounded her as she touched her door knob.
"Oh Cele-", Luna started and was interrupted as she was teleported to an unknown destination. When she materialized, her jaw dropped at the sight. Cameras were everywhere, people were in a line, assistants were bustling about and directors were yelling at any poor sod they could.
"So Lulu, what do you think?" A calming mother's voice announced from behind. Luna turned to see Celestia giving the smallest of smiles, however her eyes were moving everywhere.
"I did NOT sign up for this 'Tia. What do you have planned?" Luna questioned, her voice reaching many running people, including the head director, who in turn started yelling and causing a whole other mess of organized chaos. Discord would love this place.
"Yes, I know, that was the intention. However, through the years I've seen your progress with the public and I'm so happy about it.... But around this time of year, you seem like the most depressed pony ever. Please, just let me help you." Celestia explained and somewhat begged. The princess of the night caved looked at the long line of suitors, seeing the possible longest line in Equestrian history. Sighing, Luna walked over to the line and looked at each one of them. Each one of them were beautiful in their own aspects and surely a few familiar faces were in the-.......... Wait a minute, was that Big Mac?
Sure enough, among the long line of ponies, the large red stallion was there towering above all others, sleeping on his feet. Luna couldn't help but laugh a little at the farmer's predicament. A sudden hoof tapped her shoulder and Luna turned, a trembling intern pointing at the main director. Catching the drift, the princess walked towards the stallion. He was looking over a large file of which contained information on most of the suitors and started to order them into a list of his preferred order. Seeing Luna, he shoved a paper that had a schedule and how the show would run.
"All right, so what I need you to do ma'am is to very pretty in that chair over there until those words on the paper is spoken and you introduce yourself and whatever personal information you wish to give out. After you're done with that, I need you to tap the side of you chair twice in quick succession to signify you're done. Then we'll have short interviews with those ponies over there and we'll issue a few challenges. Now, cliche time, after they're done, each pony will receive a black rose except the one you want gone first." He stated in a very fast, very frantic voice. Looking at the clock on the wall, he went wide-eyed and yelled again, "FIVE MINUTES UNTIL SHOWTIME!! GET YOUR LAZY FLANKS INTO POSITION!! WHADDYA WAITIN' FOR!? AN INVITE!!?, GET TO IT!!!"
Luna rolled her eyes and walked to the chair and sat. She sat as regal as possible and tried to put on a smile. She might have done it a little to well as when an intern saw her, he dropped to floor. After much frantic actions, the lights activated and the show was on.
"Good evening Equestria, how are you fine folks this wonderful twilight? Anyway, this night is extra special as we have a very special event here as we try to find the princess of the night a stallion or mare fit for her satisfaction. So, here we are on the, 'The Lunar Light'! But the catch is that since there are so many volunteers we had to install some rules... Like, obstacle courses, and a lot of other things, don't ask. But here's the one that makes the heavens at night, PRINCESS LUNA!!!!!"
A large stage light shone onto Luna and Luna suddenly realized that almost everypony was possibly watching this show. Keeping face, she took a nervous gulp and spoke.
