It takes 38 hours on average to travel across a five planet system, with movement times so long any kind of engagement in space can take days, days however could be damningly short. When the computer picked up four Coalition ships, they had jumped in from the second jump point in this system and have been flying towards us for hours without us seeing due to the fact that light had to travel to them and back before we could see it. When we detected them it took them another three to get my hail demanding to know why they were in Alliance controlled space and another two and a half to answer it, they had declared war on the Alliance.
78 systems in all the alliance is a collective government over many of the worlds inhabited by colonists from equis, the homeworld of both the Alliance and the Coalition, before they had began to colonize space. if the thousands of years after the first ship from equis there were over four hundred planets in known space, with two collective governments to lead them. the alliance, a government dedicated to the leaders of old, and the alicorn princesses Twilight and Cadence. the other government was called the Coalition, dedicated to expanding into the galaxy.
it had taken me five minutes to get over the shock before i ordered the ships under my command to flee to the jump point and move my ship to the gas giant in this system, that was after I got the crew off my ship. the Coalition has attacked the alliance before, there has been a cold war with trade agreements for over a hundred years. but open war?
“TRUN BE MARK 2.55 BOW UPWARDS FULL SPEED!” my voice was broken by the small fire that had been caused in the last firing run. the navigations officer was gone, he was on one of the many lifepods flying from my doomed ship but the computer core could pick up commands from my voice.
“FIRE ALL WEAPONS, FOCUS ON THE DREADNOUGHT!” my voice was raspy and dry from hours of shouting and i was exhausted from being awake for 26 hours. they had come from the jump point to herriso 3 coalition battle cruisers and single battleship. I had occupied them with my ship for hours using the gravity well around jerrit the gas giant of this system to do as much damage to the powerful force with my cruiser, my outgunned cruiser.
“Battleship detected moving to intercept civilian transports recommend disengage and move to the Serrin jump point” the computer droned in its dull lifeless voice.
“NEGATIVE! MARK DOWN ON 5.2 OVERDRIVE THE CORE SET 1000%” i sighed and looked around at the Twilight Sparkle’s bridge as the computer worked out the orders it had been given.
“commander, new destination is obstructed and the new core set is 910% over recommended combat limit reco-”
“COMMAND OVERRIDE! JUST DO IT!” i screamed as i gave the order to destroy my ship. i had sent the ship onto a collision course with the drive about to blow. Now i was no longer needed on the projectile i had made my ship into.
“AUTOMATIC REALIGNMENT TO ED1!” I shouted the command to keep the ship headed to the coalition battle ship as the door to the bridge opened for me. i rushed past the blasted hallways to the life pods, an area which had taken a direct hit on the last run where my Tatarus cannon had punched a hole in the side of one of the battle cruisers, a near point blank blow that had sent me on a course to the rear of the Coalition Battleship. Another Battle cruiser had been taken out with my ships rail gun just over the gas giant’s third moon. i had taken on four ships all far more powerful than my ship, and lost.
the last lifeboat on the ship had a yellow light as i slammed my hoof down on the activate button meaning it was damaged but i had little choice as an explosion reminded me. As the lifeboat fired off i got a good view of my ship “Twilight Sparkle” as it hit the side of the huge battleship blowing up in a ball of arcanotec fueled fusion, the shock wave hitting my lifeboat as the ships stasis slowly activated, the last battle cruiser was flying back to its jump point, the colonists were safe and so were, hopefully, my crew. with that my eyes slowly closed and I slept for a very long time.
