//-------------------------------------------------------// The Eight Melodies. -by SecretPerson- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Take a Melody... //-------------------------------------------------------// Take a Melody... Twilight Sparkle woke up early this morning, and had already had a small breakfast by the time the sun began to raise. She was currently working on studying up on love. No real reason why, she just woke up and felt like trying to discover how and why love exists, and for what purpose (Other than you know what). She had considered waking up Spike, but since it was the weekend she decided to let him sleep in. Twilight had a stack of Romance novels, and another of studies on the idea of love. Yet, she felt non of this would give her an answer. "Strange, I actually don't feel like reading right now." She said to herself. Then, her lamp attacked her. Her friggin LAMP attacked her. "OW!" She yelped as the lamp hit her on the back of the head, "What the?!" The Lamp ignored her, and flew at her face again, so she blasted it into many pieces. "If Discord is behind this... so help me i'll..." She muttered, before hearing a scream from the bedroom. Twilight ran in, and saw Spike locked in Mortal Kombat with a Doll, of which was left at her house by the last librarian. "Twilight!" yelled Spike, before dodging a punch, "What did you do?!" Twilight zapped the doll across the room with her magic and replied "I didn't do anything! Or at least I don't think I did!" Spike slowly approached the slightly charred and broken doll. It appeared to have become tame, but he still was freaked out by the very sight of it now. "I think we should take it to Zecora or something.." He said. Twilight stared at the doll panting, and noticed something odd that had came out of one of it's broken parts. She trotted up slowly, and Spike grabbed a newspaper and followed from behind. "Spike, I think there's an old music box inside this thing..." she said. Then, upon saying that, the box opened, and played a single tune. Th stranger thing was, it sounded like a feminine voice was singing with it. "take a melody..." Spike cocked his head, "What the...?" Twilight stared at it, and said quietly "Take a melody...? What melody?" Spike replied, "I dunno, maybe it's some sort of clue, to something... Did anything weird happen recently?" Twilight replied "Like getting attacked by a lamp and this doll?" Spike shook his head, "No, I mean was there anything causing real trouble, or a mystery, or something this could link to?" Twilight thought about it, and in fact the last week was pretty uneventful by ponyville standards. Fluttershy was fine, Rainbow Dash did not have anything really important going on, Applejack was continuing life like normal, Rarity didn't have any really important guests, and Pinkie didn't even have a party. Twilight then replied to spike, "Not really... Maybe I should investigate this doll and music box more." With that, Twilight lifted up the music box and doll, and trotted over to her study area. Upon taking apart the box, she saw nothing different than any other old style music box. The only thing was a carving of the world on the front of it. Then the Doll was nothing special either, but she had put it into a cage until further notice. After a while, Twilight gave up on trying to figure out what this all meant, and went to write a letter to Celestia, which read: "Dear Princess Celestia. Today I learned some lamps are dangerous, and the old cupid doll in the library likes to attack people. Then, it get's stranger. The doll had a music box in it, that sang 'Take a melody'. I was wondering if you had any idea if this means anything or if I should worry about it. Sincerely, your dearest student, Twilight Sparkle." //-------------------------------------------------------// Give it some words, and... //-------------------------------------------------------// Give it some words, and... Pinkie Pie was the happiest pony in town this morning. Why? Because the Circus was in town, and she was ready to go see all of the performers and animals. She had quickly done her chores and took care of cleaning up Sugar Cube corner in hopes she could get out faster. Pinkie Pie jumped down the stairs and yelled "I'm ready! Circus fun! I'm ready! Circus fun!" Mrs. Cake stopped her right there, "Pinkie, your going to make sure to sell as many cupcakes as you can, right? I'm still not sure if we should be leaving you in charge of the mobile cart." Pinkie Pie giggled, "Oh I won't forget! I'm sure every pony will love the animal designs so much it would be hard NOT to sell out!" Mr. Cake came into the room, "Well I'm glad your being optimistic Pinkie. Just please, try not to get distracted too much." Pinkie threw on a Sugarcube Corner apron and replied "You can count on me Mr. Cake!" Pinkie Pie then grabbed a cart stuffed full of animal based cupcakes and began heading out the door at the speed of speed. "Be careful!" Said Mrs. Cake, "Oh dear, have fun, but don't forget to sell as many as you can!" Pinkie Pie hummed as she came into the crowded circus. Many ponies were heading in one direction, the main three ring tent. Pinkie meanwhile was staring at everything she passed, while saying hell to almost everypony she passed. "Hello mr. clown! Hi ring toss carney!" She said while waving. Pinkie then looked around thinking of were she should put the cart. When suddenly, she noticed to animal pens, and decided to go over there, because monkeys. Pinkie went the speed of speed again and stopped right beside one of the pens, while all around were pens holding Giraffes, elephants, a couple lions, Kangaroos, and a mine turtle. Pinkie stared at them, but then remembered her mission. So, with a pull of a lever, the cupcake cart popped out into a full stand to sell cupcakes. It was convenient they had designs of animals considering of were the cart was placed. "Come one, come all! animal designed cupcakes! But not animal flavored, that'd be gross!" she yelled with no need of a megaphone. In short time, a group of ponies gathered round, and pinkie was having her hooves full selling dozens of the cupcakes. after a few minutes, the small crowd dispersed with pleasure. "And there is your cougar cupcake!" said Pinkie as she happily put a smile on a young filly's face. Pinkie then sat back and looked around again. When suddenly, she felt a tug on her tail. She turned around to see a lone monkey in it's pen behind her cart pulling on her tail. "Why hello!" she said, "How is your day?" The monkey tipped it;s head as if to say "alright". Pinkie giggled, and noticed it staring intensely at one of the cupcakes. "Oh, do you want this cake?" asked Pinkie Pie. The monkey nodded as if saying "I want it." "You want this cake?" asked Pinkie again as she picked up the cupcake. The monkey drooled and shook it's head up and down faster as if saying "I Want It!" Pinkie then came up closer to the monkey, "You want this cake?" The monkey held out it's arms like saying "I WANT IT!" Pinkie smiled, "You want you want?" The monkey then flipped as if saying "I WANT THAT CAKE!!!" Pinkie Pie looked around, "I'm not supposed to feed you..." she then scoped the area again, "But have it, on the house since monkeys can't grasp the true form of currency!" Pinkie Pie tossed the cupcake to the monkey, and it happily ate it. Within 15 seconds it was licking the remains off it's lips. Pinkie reached in and patted the monkey on the head, "How was it?" The monkey did a flip, then sang "Give it some words, and." Pinkie coked her head, "What?" The monkey sang again, "Give it some words, and..." Pinkie Pie was baffled, until she noticed the sign on the cage. It said The Amazing Singing Monkey! "Oh! that's like your special talent, singing, am I right?" asked Pinkie. The Monkey nodded, then ran off and grabbed a stick. Pinkie then asked, "Can you sing anymore tunes? I think that one you just sang sounded like one part." The monkey shook it's head, and Pinkie assumed it couldn't remember the rest. "It's alright! Were friends now though!" said Pinkie Pie. Fluttershy was trotting from her cottage to Twilight's house with some haste. In her saddle-pack was the ocarina that she found earlier. She currently had the intention of asking Twilight about it. It was then, Fluttershy felt like something just zapped into her head. Then, out of some unknown will, she pulled out the ocarina. "Huh?" asked Fluttershy as the third hole was now glowing oddly. Fluttershy looked around, she wasn't in town just yet, so she decided to blow into it and see what happens. The Ocarina played the tune: "Take a melody, simple as can be. Give it some words, and..." The music then cut off, and five single tone sounds came out. //-------------------------------------------------------// Sweet harmony... //-------------------------------------------------------// Sweet harmony... Rarity was spending this morning rather casually. Sweetie Belle had went off with her friends to that circus in town, and she had just finished her most recent dress designs. One actually, was peculiar. It came to her in a dream, which is not the first time she got inspiration through dreams. But, this one, she was asked to make it, by a Queen Mary. It was odd to her, as if she was designing something based on what a customer wanted, and the customer ordered through her dream. Even though she felt it was just a dream, she made it anyway, just to see what happens. The dress itself was themed after pink seashells, with a pari of pink seashell earrings to go with it, and a crown with rubies. It was around then, she heard knocking on the door, then Opal meowing in distress to the noise. "I'll be there in a minute!" yelled rarity from her room. She trotted down and came to the front door, she did not expect anypony to visit until her and fluttershy's spa time in the afternoon. Then, with the opening of the door, she was met by the mail mare Derpy Hooves. "Hello!" she said, waving her hoof to Rarity from a foot or two away. Rarity replied "Hello Ditzy, I wasn't expecting any mail today." Derpy pulled out a old looking letter with a heart pin, "Oh, I'm pretty sure this is for you. I triple checked the adress this time!" Rarity grabbed and eyed the envelope. It looked as though someone sent it ages ago, which distressed her slightly, the mail service could have had it backed up for years, hopefully it wasn't too important. "Thanks Ditzy, it is in fact adressed to me." said Rarity, as she tipped Derpy. Derpy left with many thanks for the tip, and Rarity took the letter upstairs. She cut the very top across with scissors, she felt it was a cleaner and less brutal way to get the letter out. Next she pulled ou the papers, it was a simple, single sheet, with a small message on it. Thank you. Rarity stared at it, then checked the envelope again, seeing if she missed something. Then with turning it around a few times she gave up on figuring out what it meant. "Thank you for what?" she asked out loud, "Must've been something I forgot, I wonder who sent it." Rarity set the letter down, and check the envelope for a return adress. But, it was adressed her house, just as the sending was. "Okay, that's a tad creepy." she said out loud, "Maybe if I talk to myself more, it will scare away any creep hiding in my house..." Rarity chuckled to herself, and set the envelope down. Then she glanced at the pin. It was rather fancy for a letter, made of a metal, possibly real silver, and a heart that, with closer inspection, was possibly a very small ruby. Then she pulled it out of the letter with magic, feeling she could use it for one of her dresses. But, something was bugging her, she felt she had seen this pin before, or that she needed it for something. Opal meowed, and Rarity looked over to her playing with a old fancy doorknob, one that had been lying around with the other clutter and recycled materials for ages. "Opal, leave that alone." she said, picking it away with her magic. She then gasped, and stared at it with realization. The doorknob had the same pin, with different colors, around it six times. Except for a single empty hole. She remember back to a few years before, when she collected this doorknob when redecorating, and found all of the pieces for the front design, except one. Rarity squee'd, and stuck the pin into it's spot on the bottom. And, to her surprise, the six pins in it light up, and it flew from her magical grasp and out her rooms door. Not thinking about it, she ran after, and followed it as it rolled, with speed, all the way down the the bottom floor. She was about to pounce on it, before it stopped at the wall. There, the doorknob rolled up the wall, and secured itself into the wall paper without a care for it. It did not take long for it to turn itself, and open the section of wall like a door that had been covered up in the past. Even odder, it lead to a basement, of which she didn't know she had. "Oh dear..." she said to the door, "I think I should probably avoid going in there..." Opal then walked right past her, and down the stairs without a care in the world. "Opal! Get back here!" yelled Rarity, but she only received a meow in return as Opal continued downward. Rarity sighed, and lit up her horn as she trotted down in. She quickly went down a ways, until she came to a hallway. "Opal, come out darling, this place has cobwebs!" she said, avoiding the many webs of dirty dust. She heard a meow in the room at the end, without further ado, Rarity followed through. Upon eneter, she lit the room up, and found it was a old underground parlor of sorts, with an old chair, coffee table, oil lamp, and a piano. Opal, of course, was on top the piano. "Opal, get down from there." said Rarity, as she trotted up to Opal and the piano. Right then, the Pian played a tune, and a voice was heard: "Sweet harmony..." Rarity stared at the piano, grabbed Opal, and backed away slowly, before running upstairs in panick. //-------------------------------------------------------// Simple as can be... //-------------------------------------------------------// Simple as can be... Fluttershy was having a normal day. It was later in the morning, and she was just returning from the market with new supplies and food. As usual, she was greeted with many hungry critters, and she fed them through the morning. But then she came out back, and fed the critters, she noticed a Canary sitting on a tree by the Everfree. Fluttershy flew toward it, "Oh, careful little one, you don't want to go into there." The Canary cocked it's head at Fluttershy, and gestured her toward it. Fluttershy looked around and flew closer, "What is it?" The Canary flew to a second branch closer to the forest, and gestured her to follow. "You want me to follow you?" asked Fluttershy as she observed the forest, "B-But I don't think we should go in there..." The Canary flew to another tree into the forest, and Fluttershy flew closer to it again, "Please wait, what is it? I-I don;t want to go in there." The Canary flew up to Fluttershy, and nuzzled her mane. It then turned and flew ino the forest and parked on a tree even further in. Fluttershy looked around worryingly, but flew to the Canary anyway. Having made it this far into the forest without exploding twice, Fluttershy asked "Is there something in there?" The Canary nodded, and flew further in. Fluttershy looked around, then shook her head. "All right," she started, "I will follow you, let's just get in and out quickly." Fluttershy followed the Canary into the forest, she expected to become very frightened of everything, but the contrary happened. She began to actually admire the Everfree forest. With looking around, she began more confortable. As Fluttershy observed the many trees, and looked at the many different exotic plants and flowers that lay below her. The plants were all actually very beautiful, and she came to feel the bliss of the Nature here. Eventually, the Canary lead Fluttershy to the old castle were the elements were beforehand. Fluttershy looked around, and asked "Why are we here?" The Canary just gestured Fluttershy to follow it into the courtyard. As Fluttershy followed, she saw many other yellow Canaries just like the one she was following. Fluttershy smiled, "Were did all of you come from? Do you live here?" The one Canary came up to her, and gestured her towards it again. Fluttershy nodded, and watched it fly up to an odd pillar. She trotted up closer, and wondered what it was made of. The pillar was purple, and shaped somewhat like a large see shell. Then, she heard the Canary sing something. "Simple as can be" Fluttershy looked up, and asked "Simple as can be? What is simple?" Suddenly, the Canary flew down and landed on what looked like a rock at first. Then Fluttershy inspected it further and found it was a Ocarina. Fluttershy picked it up, and looked at it. It had eight holes, and two of which were glowing oddly. The Canary nodded toward Fluttershy as if it wanted her to blow into it, "You want me to play it?" The Canary nodded, and Fluttershy repleid, "Okay, I will try my best." Fluttershy blew into the Ocarina, and was met with a tune going along with the words, "Take a Melody, Simple as can be..." then it made six single dot noises, as if the song was incomplete. Fluttershy looked at the Ocarina in suprize and turned to look for the Canary. But when she looked, all of the Canaries were gone, so she though of one thing. "I have to take this to Twilight, she will know what it means!"
