Twilight and her friends were all doing what they all did best together: having fun. This particular 'fun' activity was a picnic. Good 'ole picnics. One of the best ways to wind down after a long and stressful day of hard studying. With the tea, and the sandwich, the bright sunny day, and the chirping birds, it sure melts stress off of your back quite rapidly.
Not to mention that all of her best friends were there. Pinkie was chasing a butterfly, Rarity was fussing over her hoof, Applejack was leaned against the trunk of the tree under which they all lay, Rainbow Dash was up against the opposite side of the tree, muzzle buried into the newest Daring Do novel and Fluttershy was staring off into the distance, pondering...something, while giving her little cup of tea a sip every now and then.
Twilight just smiled and returned her eyes to a book of her own. It was a nonfiction, of course. This one was about the universe as Ponies knew it. Written by one of StarSwirl the Bearded's apprentices, it was a good read.
Ponies didn't really know all that much about their reality, but they knew enough to keep a pony like Twilight occupied.
Ironically, she was getting to a really interesting part about theories involving other dimensions when it happened.
The ground shuddered. It was quick, but it was brutal. It knocked all six ponies a foot or two into the air, and they all came down. Hard.
"Ow! What in tarnation?" Exclaimed Applejack, as she began rubbing her bruised backside. Rainbow Dash had been launched directly into the branches of the tree, and she just then escaped.
"Yeah! What they hay is going on here!?"
Twilight was a bit disoriented, as were the other ponies. Pinkie's butterfly rampage had been halted, and Fluttershy lay curled up in a fetal position, trembling. Rarity was having issues recovering as well.
"Was it an' earthquake?" Applejack asked.
Twilight answered, "If it was, it was unlike an earthquake I've heard of befo-"
It happened again, this time more violently. Rainbow had her senses up, and managed to fly off of the ground before she was bucked through the air again. She managed to catch the two closest ponies to her, Applejack and Twilight, but the others weren't so lucky.
"Okay, what's going on here, and how can we stop it? If this continues, the entire town'll be knocked over!" Applejack shouted.
Twilight began to think. It might not have been an earthquake, but whatever it was was probably preventable. The return of a villain? No. A rift in Space-Time Continuum? No-
Yes.
It happened a third time. Twilight closed her eyes, bracing herself for her third impact with the unforgiving ground. It came, and drew an oof from the purple mare.
She rolled over on her stomach, holding in tears. Ugh, she needed to figure out how to stop this! Twilight was just about to open her eyes and brace herself for another lurch of the planet. This bracing was in vain; the buck never came. Was that it?
"Heeeeyyy..."
It was Rainbow Dash.
Twilight finally opened her eyes and gasped at her surroundings. She was definitely not outside of Ponyville anymore, that much was for sure. All of her friends were accounted for; they were visible but all strewn about the area.
Rarity and Fluttershy had to climb down from a tree. The tree, just like everything, was blocks. Squares. Cubes.
"What in the name of Celestia?" Twilight mumbled.
"Okay, this is officially super-weird." Rainbow said.
"I-I-I agree, not just weird, but really, really scary!" Fluttershy said, trembling on the ground again.
Rarity looked around in wonder, as did Twilight and the rest of the group.
They seemed to be in a forest. There were two types of trees, roses and daisies, and some bunches of tall grass that swayed in the wind.
Beyond the forest was the most majestic range of mountains that Twilight had ever seen. The other ponies had noticed it too, and there was a collective woah....
The mountains went high and low, and were punctured with lots and lots of gaping holes that lead into deep caves. Twilight noticed many things that were, supposedly, physically impossible, particularly the giant floating island that rested above the massive mountains.
There were several streams of water running over the sides and from the bottom of this floating beast.
It was breathtaking. Breathtaking and yet quite ugly all at the same time. Everything was...a bucking square.
Twilight, though previously frustrated (you would be too, if you had been plucked from your home reality and hucked into another one) was now bursting with nerd pride.
"This is great! From the looks of it, we are the first ponies to ever set hoof here! I will be the greatest scientist ever!"
She ran from pony to pony as she exclaimed this hopping up and down.
"Okay, first we need to gather samples, and then we-"
"Twilight?" Rarity said.
"-need to document our findings-"
"Twiiiiliiight?"
"-and then-"
"Twilight!"
Twilight halted her hopping and blabbering, with a somewhat embarrassed look plastered across her face.
"Yes, ahem, sorry Rarity, what?"
"Well, this is great and all, us being the first ponies ever to be here, but what about home? We can't stay here forever. And we may be the only ponies here, but what else lives here? Maybe there are dangerous beasts the live here. And, as you can see, it is getting dark. Maybe some of these monstrous beasts are nocturnal." Rarity was wide-eyed at this point, and she shivered.
"Yes...I suppose you're right. Shoot, you're right. What if we don't make it back? What-What if the air is poisonous, and we're slowly!? No! I can't finish my studies with Celestia! I just barley got my wings! We're all going to die!"
"Twilight!" Rarity had to interject again.
"Huh?"
"Calm. Down."
Twilight nodded and took a deep breath. After she had calmed down, she spoke again.
"Well. I don't mean to be a drag, but home seems a bit far off right now, so let's deal with the second issue. Let's see if we can find a cave to stay in for now."
"I'm on it!" There was a streak of Cyan, and Rainbow Dash was gone.
A full three seconds later, there she was again.
"I found one that's close enough to the ground that we can all climb into, and it's also shallow so that it's not too big, but it's also deep enough for all of us to have our space."
Twilight was impressed. "Good good Rainbow."
The cyan pegasus puffed up her chest.
"Come on girls."
And they all set off towards this nice cave that Rainbow had supposedly found, and a great adventure began for them. But, right now, the adventure is about to begin for me as well.
I sat down in my room, on my comfy office chair and cracked open my Red Bull. I placed it on the old book that I was currently using as a coaster and started up my computer. It was a big'un, A Dell CPS m1730. And I got it for free. Sometimes it comes in handy to have a ridiculously rich uncle.
I opened up MineCraft and entered my log-in info. I waited for a couple seconds as the 'Mojang' logo appeared on the screen, followed by the MineCraft menu. I selected 'Singleplayer,' then, 'Goop.' I don't remember why, but I always name my survival worlds "Goop."
It loaded up and I spawned right where I left off; in my mine. It wasn't really so much as my mine as so much the world's caverns, but whatever.
I wanted to get right back to mining, but I remembered that I cracked my last iron pickax the last time I played. Crap.
I followed my torches through the winding passageways, up and up, until I found the gaping entrance. I hopped out of it and followed the gravel path that I had lain up the side of the mountain. A great shadow engulfed me and my surroundings, which meant that my floating abode was near.
I found the waterfall that led through the layers of stone and to the surface, and steered Steve inside. I held the spacebar and I began to swim upwards.
After a few seconds, my head emerged and I located my house. It was a pretty nice house, with cobblestone and oak wood and glass panes. I had decorated the area with torches and with flowers as well.
It was nearing nighttime, but I didn't really care: I had a fell set of iron armor and a diamond sword. I would be safe.
I crafted three iron picks and dropped them into my inventory. I left my house, making sure to shut the door behind me, and jumped into my water elevator once more, this time for the descent.
Twilight and the gang had made it to the cave, and were helping each other up. Soon, they were all inside, and Twilight used her magic to start a small fire. They all sat in silence for a while, separately pondering recent events.
Twilight noticed something on a stone shelf above them and somewhat wobbly flew up to investigate. (She was still getting a bit used to her new wings) She gasped when she realized what it was: a helmet. At least, she thought it was a helmet.
She grasped it with her front hooves and flew back down.
"Girls, look at this."
"Woaahhh, and alien helmet!" Pinkie exclaimed.
"That's what it looks like to me. Seems to be made of iron, and it's pretty rusty. It's pretty old."
"How old my dear?" Rarity asked.
"I'm not sure exactly, but it's old. It doesn't look like it would fit a pony. I wonder if whoever, or whatever, made this is still here."
Yes. Yes he was. And he was right above them.
What the heck? Are those voices? Are they they're voices? Heck, I knew that Notch was a brony, but when did he implement ponies into the game?
I hadn't seem them yet, just heard, so I wasn't entirely that that's who it was, but I was pretty damn sure.
The purple light emanating from the cave was sure-fire evidence for me. Okay, Mojang made a deal with Hasbro and put ponies into the game. But when? There hadn't been a new update for months. Had they been added in the last update? And, if so, how come I hadn't found them until now?
Well, time to investigate.
The ponies all sat staring at the helmet, trying to deduce where it had came from, and who/what it might be able to fit. In fact, they were so focused on the article of armor, that they didn't notice the strange creature enter the cave. He stood about six feet tall, and was covered in hear-to-toe with armor and thick clothing. He had a blue sword strapped to his back, and a pickax in his hand.
He was made a squares too.
Wow! Yes, my favorite video game had become integrated with my favorite tv show, epic. But the ponies....they...they weren't made of squares! They actually looked exactly like that had from the show! Strange that should've slowed my computer down lots, but whatever.
They were so interested in the old, damaged iron helmet that I had discarded earlier that they had yet to notice my presence. I pondered how I could get their attention. I didn't want to punch one, not did I want to lodge an arrow in the wall next to them. They were probably like wolves, peaceful, but mean when provoked.
I had an idea and hit the 'T' on my keyboard, and the little dark box used for commands and LAN-chatting appeared.
Hello? I keyed in. I paused for a bit, but shrugged and hit 'Enter.'
"Woah! What?" Twilight blinked, trying to get the letters off of her eyes. The world "HELLO" had just appeared on both of her eyes, as well as her other pony friends.
Okay, alien? Where did that come from. After a few seconds, the words faded away and Twilight could see clearly again.
Pinkie Pie was on the floor, rolling around and giggling.
"Hehehe! That ticked me eyes!"
Well, that seemed to get their attention. After receiving my message (Not sure how exactly) they all fell back a bit. They were all asking questions and Pinkie apparently thought that it tickled.
They began looking around, and, finally, they found me.
"Woah! Look, there! There's one!"
The strange creature just looked down at them, his face eerily still. His arms shifted back and forth slowly as he stood there.
Twilight gathered up some courage and approached the creature.
"Um...Hello to you too?"
Yes! I love you Notch! I can talk to them and everything! Maybe I could tame Twilight, and fly around on her, or maybe I could get Applejack to pick my apples, or maybe Fluttershy could tame hostile mobs, or, or, ah this is awesome!
I keyed in another message.
Twilight was surprised yet again as the words, "Cool! You can all talk!" appeared.
"Uh, yes, yes we can. Is...is that how you communicate? By projecting text?"
The creature's head bobbed back and forth in what could only be a messy nod. It was kind of gruesome. Rainbow winced.
This was awesome. Best day ever. I was about to 'say' something else when I heard a crunching noise, and Steve jumped. I checked my hearts, and, sure enough, one was empty.
All of the ponies watching in grim fascination as the creature turned around, the sword that was previously on his back now in his hand, and they saw and arrow protruding from the back of his head.
He ran, rather dorkily, from the cave and into the night. The ponies heard many strange noises. Crunching, hissing, slurping, more clanging and twanging, and even an explosion.
"What's going on!? Does he need our help?" Rainbow asked, and eager look in her eyes.
"No, no, leave him be."
The cyan pegasus looked a bit disappointed, but landed on the cave floor anyway, and began straining her eyes, trying to see what was to come of their blocky hero.
Soon, I was done fighting. I went back up to the ponies and asked them to follow me. I led them up to my house, and heard Rarity ask why they didn't notice it before.
They were kind of weird about swimming up the water elevator, but it still worked for them. Of course, Twilight, Rainbow and Fluttershy all just flew up and were waiting for us.
I led them into my house, and hurriedly built six more beds. I had lots of extra wool.
"Wow, pretty cozy in here," Twilight said, looking at the paintings and torches the adorned the room. I did another disgusting nod.
It was right then that I had an idea. I typed 'wait a sec,' and minimized MineCraft. I got up and plugged in my mic that had lain dormant for a while.
I started up Talkie, a voice mod that allows gamers to talk with their actual voices.
I unpaused the game and spoke.
"Can you hear me?"
I said it a bit to excitedly and startled all of the ponies. Again.
"Did-did you just actually talk?" Twilight asked, wide-eyed.
"Haha! Success!"
"How? Wha-?"
"I just plugged in my microphone and...wow, you guys have some awesome A.I."
"A.I?"
"Artificial Intelligence."
"Well, I'm pretty sure that my intelligence isn't....artificial."
I chuckled. Silly ponies.
"Well, anywho, time to get to bed, we have a long day ahead of us. Go on, get, into bed."
There was some groaning, but Pinkie Pie was ecstatic.
"Whee! I get to sleep on an alien planet!" She gasped, "And not in a cave! Yay!"
Everyone rolled their eyes and I right-clicked on my bed. Of course, the "night" really only lasted a second once you go into bed, I think it was a full 12 hours for the ponies.
I got out and just stood there. This was a freaking amazing edition. Thank you Mojang!
