//-------------------------------------------------------// Mission: Reconnaissance -by MidnightEclipse- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 Chapter 1 Everything was magical. The animals were happy, the sun was shining, and even the trees had the glow of happiness, something that this land had to it's very core. It was so very foreign to me, how I hadn't even come across civilization yet, and I felt the joy and peace that this place had a plethora of. It nearly made me sick. While everyone and everything was so happy in this world, they were completely oblivious to the other side. Equestria was not the only place in existence, but I'm sure none of the content little ponies would ever even stop to think about it. Where did their moon go when the Sun was raised here? It obviously had to go somewhere. In our world, no pony could control it. Once we went days without the moon, and an entire civilization was wiped out because of it. All because of that damned Celestia and her worthless sister. We had lost our most cultivated land because of a squabble between two incompetent siblings. And ever since, we had been biding our time....when our world would be the one to control the Sun and Moon. Now that I was here, the plan would be set in motion. I, Midnight Eclipse, was the first outer world pony to ever set foot in Equestria. Only I could pass the barrier and still be capable of returning after my recon mission. After all, I was an Alicorn, and only we were able to perform the most complicated of spells. Out of all the Alicorns that inhabited our world, only I was able to pass through it. It was a strong barrier indeed. However, the problem was that even though they sent me here, I couldn't go back. I had to learn the return spell before I could even think about it. I know why father was okay with that, it was only to ensure that I would learn as much about the enemies as possible before returning home. Even though he never said goodbye, I understood. Finally. I finally came upon a town, and I could now begin my studies. Before I could enter though, I had to disguise myself. Drawing attention was not a good idea. I inhaled slowly and closed my eyes. My horn began to glow a gentle blue light before it traveled down to my head and body, encasing me inside it. My wings disappeared and I shrunk down to the size of a commoner, not that I was that much taller to begin with. But still. If my cover was blown then everything we had done to prepare for this day would have been for naught. Once the spell was finished I smiled. Nothing went wrong this time. Hopefully the reversal spell would go just as well. I looked at myself in a puddle to make sure nothing else was out of the ordinary. My magenta colored skin and dark brown hair was as plain as plain could be. Didn't really take much, which was kind of depressing in itself. As I began to make my way to the front gates of the town, I heard a carriage behind me. From the looks of it, some important ponies were inside. I had to investigate. Quickly, I trotted after it, but tried to at least do it stealthily so I didn't look like I was intentionally following them. It stopped in the middle of town and a crowd began to form. My intuition was indeed right, whoever inside of that carriage was definitely somepony that everyone knew. The door opened and a plain jane earth pony with blonde hair and green eyes walked out. "Well I reckon that was the best trip to Canterlot we ever did go on," She started with a smile, making way for whoever else was coming out. I cringed at her barbaric, simpleton accent. That was no pony important. Who else was in there? "Oh yes, and it was nice seeing all the animals in the royal garden again. They are wonderful sweethearts, just adorable." A soft spoken, majestic voice said. That had to be whoever was important, that ruffian was probably a body guard or something. A small, dainty looking pony with a yellow coat and long pink mane covering half of her face flew out slowly. She seemed very regal. Was she the one? Suddenly, a blur of rainbow rushed passed her, and she lost control of herself. She spun for a while in mid air before dropping to the ground. That blur was beginning to circle over and over in the air and finally it came hurtling to the ground as if it were a falling star. Finally, after it slowed down to land I saw it was just another pony who didn't look particularly important either. "Ah! I hate carriages. Feels so nice to stretch my wings. Even trains are better than those things!" She said with a huge, smug grin on her face. That rainbow bright hair was truly a sight to behold. I disliked her even more than the hick town pony. Something about those stupid purple eyes. Yeah. "WHHHHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" I covered my ears and lowered my head down, trying to block out the awful piercing noise. It made my ears ring. What in Gods name made that? I finally looked up and saw a completely pink from head to hooves pony bounce out of the carriage. I looked around and the crowd was still gathering. Why? Who were these annoying twerps? Why were they so important when they were so...annoying? Except the light pink haired one. "That was fun! Carriages are fun! We should have a welcome home party guys! Or maybe a Princess party since we celebrated at Canterlot instead of Ponyville!" Despite her voice sounding like someone was putting a blow horn to my ears, my eyes darkened slightly as I realized finally who was in the carriage. Why she would crowd herself was these uncouth commoners, I didn't know. But what princess was it? Who did that pink wad of bubble gum want to throw a ridiculous party for? "No Pinkie. I'm really tired of celebrations. I want everything to just go back to normal. I like being a princess and all, but I want to be the old Twilight, too. I also need to get back to the library to see if I can find any books on proper princess mannerisms. Ugh, maybe I should have just asked Luna!" "Finally...lets see who this Princess is. Hehehehehe." I rubbed my hooves together and then realized people were starting to stare. I hadn't even realized I was laying down on the ground. "Crap." I said as I snaked away to get get a better view of the pony coming out. She definitely was the one these people were crowding over. She looked surprised as she came out of the carriage. I noticed her horn was glowing as if she was already casting magic at this second. "Oh. Hey every pony!" The purple coated Alicorn with high lighted blue hair greeted as she continued walking out of the carriage with some type of purple and green monster riding on her back. Something also hovered out after her, and it looked like yet another pony. "NO! I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE CASTLE, I WANT TO GO BACK TO CANTERLOT!!!!" The pony said as Twilight placed her down. She looked more...refined than the rest of them but her crybaby attitude was just as annoying. Suddenly, the crowd began to move, and some pony bumped into me, knocking me over. "Twilight, are you really a princess now!" "What are you doing back in Ponyville!? Won't you be ruling by Celestia's side?" "Twilight, are you going to build a castle here and make Ponyville like Canterlot?!" "Who designed your dress at the coronation!?" "Twilight, over here!" The entire crowd was going crazy and I had to push through it so I could continue studying the newest threat to the outer world. She backed up with a confused look before her horn glowed once more and her and her friends disappeared in a flash. The disheartened crowd immediately began to disperse. "Rats..." I said, kicking a rock on the ground. Then I overheard some younger fillies talking among themselves. "Want to go see if Twilight is at the library? She's probably just shy." The red haired one with a bow in her her mane suggested. The others quickly agreed and then they began to head off. I quickly followed them before I realized that they weren't even going far. I stood before a giant tree that someone had obviously made a home out of. I began to snicker to myself. "If Princesses live in tree houses, then this place is worse off than I originally thought. Huehuehue." I whispered to myself as the young ponies were let in and the door quickly shut. I had to figure out how to spy on them. Looking around desperately I jumped into some bushes. "Lucky for me I studied up on camouflage spells. I just need to reverse the spell on my wings so I can fly up there and sneak in a window." In a flash of blue light, I was now invisible and had my wings back. I made sure no pony could see my by doing a little victory dance. As they walked by without even turning their heads, I knew that once again I was successful. Flying up to one of the open windows I found myself in an empty room. "Infiltration successful." "I just don't know how to deal with all this attention," Twilight Sparkle said with a sigh. "I'm sorry for also taking you guys with me, it was unintentional. I'm not used to all this additional magic power from being a Princess." "Oh darling, you're going to have to face them sooner or later. You can't just run away every time your loyal and loving subjects want to ask you questions." The dramatic pony I had seen earlier said. "Rarity is right, Twi. You've got to get used to this. I haven't read any books on how to be a Princess or anything, but I'm pretty sure that teleporting off somewhere isn't something a Princess does when people want to talk to her." Ugh! That little purple monster thing, talked?! "But Spike, I..." "Don't listen to them, Twilight! I understand being shy. I would never be able to face all those people at once. Maybe if they were all animals, but....it's scary when they all come after you. They shouldn't have crowded around her that way." The soft spoken pony said with a smile. "Fluttershy, you ALWAYS run away. Now if it was me, I would love the attention! Just face them head on, Twilight. Answer whatever questions they want. And if you just feel like your crowded, just fly up in the air above them! Show off a little!" Little miss Rainbow pony stated as she flew above them to demonstrate. She seemed very animated whenever she talked. "I know, we could always have that party I mentioned so everyone could ask Twilight all the questions they wanted one at a time! It would be fun! And if they start crowding, I'll get my party cannon! And then we can dance!" "PInkie" suggested. I groaned with annoyance and rolled my eyes. "Did ya'll here something?" The country bumpkin asked. "I heard it too, Apple Jack. Someone groaned!" The filly with the bow in her hair said. Crap, even if I was invisible, people could still hear me! I was leaning against the wall, peeking out from the door way. Now that they were all paying attention to me, if I moved they could hear my foot steps potentially. "Now that you mention it, I do detect magic in here...You might as well come out." Twilight said. Suddenly all the windows shut and I knew she was aware of my presence. I already had messed up! I was discovered! The mission was ruined! Sweat broke out over my brow but then I realized that I could still get out of this somehow. I was new, no one had seen me before. I made sure that my wings were out of site before I dropped my invisibility spell and came out into view. "Uhh..sorry...I thought that this library was public or something so I found my way here...when you all popped in I ran and hid, hoping you wouldn't find me. I'm soo, sooo very sorry." "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE NEVER SEEN YOU BEFORE!" Pinkie squealed, causing me to flinch. Suddenly she wasn't in the spot I had last seen her. What the? She was an earth pony, she couldn't possibly have used magic. The others laughed and then Twilight came forward. "It's alright. My name is Twilight. These are my friends Spike, Apple Jack, Rarity, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. The one who just ran off was Pinkie Pie. And these nice young girls are Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell, and Scoutaloo. It's nice to meet you." As Twilight introduced me to all of her ridiculous friends I plastered on a thick smile. "Y-y-you don't s-say? M-my name is....M-m-midnight....Eclipse." Talking with my mouth like this was extremely hard. The blue one flew towards me and put her arm around my shoulder. "Don't be so nervous around us, we don't bite! After tonight you'll know the entire town!" She said smugly. I tried my best not to push her off me, as I began to sweat. Keeping up the smile was nearly impossible with this pony touching me. "Midnight Eclipse? I'ts nice to meet you. I'm surprised you know such a complicated spell. Not many ponies can master invisibility." Twilight said. "Oh, it's nothing...really." I said between my teeth as they all stared at me with big smiles on their faces. I felt so uncomfortable. "Well...I best be going...sorry for sneaking in....I mean mistaking your house for a library." I started backing up towards the door. "Oh no, if you'd like to borrow my books you can always come here. Except any books about being a Princess, I have to study those." "P-princess, huh? Where are my manners." I bow my head, my eyes shifting away from her line of sight. "Oh, you don't have to-." "Well, I'll be on my way, nice to meet every pony, bye!" I closed the door swiftly and then let out a sigh. Before I knew it though, Pinkie Pie was right in front of me. "HEY HEY HEY HEY, Umm..ummm...ummm....what was your name?" She asked, jumping up and down. "It's Midnight-." "MIDNIGHT! You're invited to you're welcoming party! Also the welcome back Princess Coronation Party right afterwards! Here's you're invitation! BYE!" Pinkie Pie shoved the invitation in my hoof and ran off. I looked down and rolled my eyes. "As if. I'm out of here." I trotted off, leaving the invitations behind. Author's Note This is the first fanfic I ever made, and it was mainly to prove a point. I actually had more fun than I expected...and I took it more seriously than I thought I would. Looking forward to it's second chapter.
