Chapter 1: Mare in the Moon Pt 1

SCREEE! SCREEE!
Ugh.
"Ok Im up Hunter, stop screeching at me." I said
Hunter is my pet falcon, hes pretty nice to people he knows, but others are missing some fingers, and will tell him off.
Time to do the morning routine.
I got out of bed and looked into my mirror, Im pretty tall, have a muscular build, and have kinda curly long brown hair. I also have a scar that runs from just above my eye down to my mouth, I got it when I was little, and it left my right eye milky colored and almost blind. A dragon attacked my fathers empire, killing everyone but me.
I know what your thinking, rightfully Im a king but the empire was lost long ago, and no one knows where to find it. I don't know where it is either, I had memory loss when I was attacked but I was found outside the wreckage by my adoptive family, who was also royalty. So I started to comb my hair then I put ot into a pony-tail, to keep it out of my eyes while I do my morning push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups.
As the Protector I need to be in top physical condition. For those who don' t know the Protector is sent on special missions by the princess or directly protects her when she goes out. Finished with the morning routine I start to put on my specialized and custom fitted armor, given to me by Celestia herself when I first started. It is made ofdragon hide and is blood red in color, its tougher than all metals, and other hide, used for the guards armor.
Finished, I head off to the throne room. Given that I have wings I make it there in no time flat, Im the fastest flyer in all of Canterlot. The princess was wearing a flowing dress that, in my opinion, suited her well.
"Good morning Protector" says Celestia
"Good morning Princess" I said
"I would like you to accompony my student, Twilight Sparkle, in checking preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration, and in making friends, all you do when you're not out on a job is train."
"Yes ma'am, when will we leave?" I asked.
"As soon as you are ready, she will be waiting for you in the court yard" she replied
I saluted and took off for my room.As I arrived, I quickly grabbed my shield and my war axe
Always safe than sorry
I grabbed my helmet, which is also made out of dragon hide, put it on and proceded to jump off my balcony and into the court yard, a couple hundred feet, below. Landing on my feet and doing a little roll, to dampen the blow on my feet, and stand up to hear a voice
"Wow, that was amazing! How did you do that?"
I looked and saw a woman about 20-21 years old, wearing a purple sweater, blue jeans and a bag slung overher shoulder, embroidered with a star surrounded by other stars walking towards me. She had staight black hair with purple and pink highlights.
"You must be Twilight Sparkle. And to answer your question, a lot of practice" I said.
" Nice to meet you...."
"Greywing or Protector, if you wish" I said
"Nice to meet you Greywing, you already know who I am but this is Spike, my assistant"she motioned to a little dragon, whom I didn't see before, standing next to her.
"Sup" he said
I glared at him through my helmet, he couldn't see it though. I don't like dragons.
I faced Twilight and said, "I assume you are in a hurry to get started, so lets be off!"
as I walked onto the carriage, who was being pulled by two guards. She and Spike followed me on and were silent most of the trip, almost to our destination Twilight started talking to Spike,
"I don't see why Princess Celestia wants me to make friends when we have more important things to worry about-"
"What kind of things" I cut in.
She looked at me very seriously and said,
"The return of Nightmare Moon".
I looked at her with mild amusement on my face, hidden from her by my helmet,
I highly doubt that I thought.
THUMP! THUMP!
"Were here!" said Spike,
"Were exactly is here?" I asked him,
"This is Ponyville." he responded.
We started to walk off the carriage, and I followed Twilight and Spike to there first destination.
"Come on Twilight you read the Princess's letter, she wants you to make some friends while you are here" said Spike,
"No, all I want to do is check on the preparations for the Celebration and go to the library she has me staying at".
"Come on, Im sure the people in Ponyville will like you", he said gesturing towards a girl who looked about the same age as Twilight who was wearing jeans and a pink T-shirt, the shirt had the balloons in the bottom corner of it, she also had poofy pink hair.
"All you need to do is say 'hello' ", he said. Twilight looked at the girl, who had stopped in front of us, and said
"Hello"
GAAAAASSSP! She then ran away.
"Were the hell did she go?" I said,
" Dunno but we have to start checking on the preparations, the first stop is Sweet Apple Acres to check on the food" Twilight responded.
"Lead the way" I said, as we headed to Sweet Apple Acres. We arrived to see a 22 year woman with long blond hair pulled into some sort of ponytail, who was wearing a plaid T-shirt, jean coveralls, and work boots knocking apples out of trees.
"Hello", Twilight said "Im Twilight Sparkle, and I--"
"Howdy Twilight, Im Applejack, welcome to Sweet Apple Acres, we sure do like visitors here.... And whats your name tall, dark, and mysterious?" she said,
"My name is Greywing, or Protector if you wish, Miss Applejack" I responded,
"Aw, no need for the 'Miss', Greywing" she said blushing slightly.
"Excuse me, but Im here to check on the food preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration" Twilight interviened.
"Well why didn't you say so sugercube?" "SOUPS ON EVERYBODY!!" Applejack shouted while ringing a bell. We were suddenly pushed into seats on a table, while a flurry people pushed food onto the table.
The names were lost in my mind while I eyed the food, I hadn't eaten anything this morning. The last names I heard was Grannysmith, Applebloom, and Big Macintosh. I took off my helmet and undid my pony tail.
" I see that the food is going to be good but Im in a hurry and must get going" Twilight said,
"Aaawww..." all the people surrounding us said together. The the little one, Applebloom said
"Are you sure you can't stay fer lunch?", with big puppy-dog eyes.
"Ugh... Fine" Twilight said. As she started to eat Applebloom walked over to me and said,
"What happened to your face?",
"Applebloom! thats not a polite thing to say!" Applejack scolded her. Laughing slightly,
" Its ok, Applejack." I said turning to face Applebloom,"When I was a little younger than you, my home was attacked by a dragon, he gave me this mark when he slashed his talons at me", I told her.
"Oh.... It must've hurt" she responded,
"It did, but only for a little" I said turning to my plate.
After we were finished eating, Twilight, Spike, and I were walking in the main square, I had put my hair back in a ponytail and put my helmet back on, Twilight complained,
"Ooohh... I ate too much pie..." when all of a sudden...
"LOOK OUT!!"
*SPLASH*!
In a quick seccond I whirled around, drawing my axe and strapping on my shield, only to see a girl had crashed into Twilight. She had long tom-boyish hair that was died like a rainbow. She was about 20, wearing jogging pants, shoes and had a blue tank-top, that had a rainbow colored lightning-bolt under a cloud in the bottom corner of her shirt.
Sheathing my axe and shield, I picked her up by her collar and said sarcasticly,
"Are we in your way?".
She glared at me for a moment, and I put her down. Laughing slightly, she said
"Sorry about that lemme get this mud off you". She flew up, grabbed a rain cloud and shook it so much it poured on Twilight.
"Umm, maby that was a little too much." she said, the girl then started to fly around Twilight very fast creating a mini tornado, while saying
"I'll dry you off with my patented Rainblow-dry!".
Landing she said "No, no need to thank me, it was my pleasure"
She looked at Twilight whos hair was all messed up from the air dry, and doubled over laughing as did Spike.
" Im Twilight Sparkle and you must be Rainbowdash?" said Twilight.
Rainbowdash stopped laughing, stood up and said "Oh you've heard of me?",
"I heard you were supposed to keep the sky clear" Twilight responded.
"Yeah, yeah easy peasy" Rainbow answered,
"I bet you couldn't clear the sky in ten secconds" I challenged.
" Ha! I could do it in ten secconds FLAT!" she said,
"Prove it", she glared at me the proceded to completely clear the sky of all clouds, in exactly ten secconds. I stood there mildly impressed while Twilight and Spike stood open-mouthed, not saying anything.
"See?" Rainbow said, "Ten. Secconds. Flat". She sawTwilight and laughed slightly,
"Your a riot Twilight Sparkle, I can't wait to hang out with you some more!" she said flying away.
"Ok the next, thing on the list is 'Decorations' ", Twilight said looking at what I thought was the great hall. We walked inside to see a woman about 23, with purple styled, but still curly, hair in a purple shirt, white skinny pants, and high heals trying to decide for a bow to hang.
She's beautiful I thought,
"Its beautiful" said Spike,
"Yes the decor is coming along nicely" Twilight said.
"Not them!... Her" he responded, pointing to the woman,
"Ditto" I said, taking off my helmet to see her better.
Twilight had walked up to her and started to say something but was cut off by a shriek.
"Whatever happened to your hair!?!", the woman said
"Its kind of a long story" Twilight answered.
"We must fix it at once!" the woman said while dragging Twilight off somewhere. I looked at Spike, who looked love-struck, and pulled him along following Twilight and the woman. We ended up in a dress shop who was owned by the purple haired girl, who I found out to be named Rarity.
"A beautiful name for a beautiful woman" I told her, she blushed and looked away. Rarity pulled out a changing screen, put it in front of Twilight and started to do something. When she pushed the wall away Twilight was wearing adress covered in gems, her hair was also fixed.
"Beautiful!" said Rarity as she positioned Twilight in front of a mirror, and started to fiddle with the dress.
"Now you must tell me where you are from, darling", Rarity asked
"I've been sent from Canterlot to-"
"Huh!", Rarity interupted "Canterlot! Oh I've always dreamed of going there, the glamour and the sophistication, oh you and I are going to be the best of friends..... Emeralds! what was I thinking, lets get you some diamonds!", Rarity said walking away happily.
"Quick lets go before she dies my hair a different color!" Twilight said as she quickly took off the dress and put her other clothes back on (behind the screen, mind you) and ran out carrying Spike, who still looked love-struck. I looked at where Rarity went and back at the door, I really don't want to leave...
Oh well I thought as I put my helmet back on and followed Twilight. She was way ahead of me almost to a little clove of trees a long ways off, so I flew above where she was talking to a shy looking girl with long pink hair who was wearing what looked like a yellow shirt, yellow pajama bottoms and a pair of flipflops. The shirt had a couple of pink butterflies on it.
I stopped flying and dropped towards them, while they were walking away, nearly scaring the shit out of the shy one. She screamed and flew into the tree, hiding,
"Im sorry" I said taking off my helmet,
"I didn't mean to scare you", she wimpered and climbed slowly outof the tree.
"Im Greywing, whats your name?",
"Fluttershy" she said, very quietly.
"Hello Fluttershy its nice to meet you" I said, she responded by hiding partialy behind her hair and whimpering.
"Uhh... I guess we should head over to the library you are staying in, Twilight",
"Yeah!" Spike agreed,
"Ohmigod! A talking dragon!" Fluttershy said.
" I've neverseen one that talks, what do you talk about?" she asked while we started to walk to the library,
"I dunno, what do you want to know?", Spike said
"Absolutely everything!" Fluttershy answered.
"Ugh" Twilight sighed,
after a long time of listening to Spike tell Fluttershy about his life, up until roday, we arrived at the library.
"Looks like we are here and Spike needs his sleep" said Twilight,
"Oh don't worry, I'll put him to bed" Fluttershy responded, picking up Spike and walking inside the library. Twilight followed her inside and looked like she was about to say something when...
!!!SUPRISE!!!
"Hi Im Pinkie Pie and I threw thi whole party just for you, because your new, and that means you don't have any friends here. So I decided to throw you this party and invite as many people as I can!See?"
I looked over to see everybody we met today. But Twilight walked over to over to the drink plate and started to pour herself a drink, she took a long sip, turned around and looked at us.
"Are you alright, sugarcube?" asked Applejack,
Twilight shook her head and went up the stairs in the back. I didn't follow her because I wanted to talk to the people at the party.
As it turns out Applejack runs the farm, Rainbowdash wants to be a stunt flyer, Rarity wants to be the best dress maker in the world, Pinkie Pie is on an forever sugar high, and Fluttershy takes care of animals. Spike left to go say something to Twilight, while the rest of us went to the town hall, where I was instructed to go stand on the balcony Celestia was to come out on. Fluttershy started to get her birds to chirp a nice melody while the Mayor introduced the princess, the curtain opened and..... the princess wasn' there! Instead I saw Twilight run in, and a cloud of black smoke formed around me, I drew my axe in anticipation of something bad, when a voice said
"Oh, put that toy away little fool! You are no match for me!",
I was then pushed off the balcony. Fluttershy screamed as I fell but I righted myself and landed on my feet, suddenly a warrior like woman apeared from where I was just standing, she was wearing armor very similar to mine, but her helmet was different, laughing, while I just got angry.
"Oh its been so long since I've seen my subjects", the woman said
"What have you done with our princess!" Rainbowdash shouted,
"What am I not royal enough for you? Do you even know who I am?" the woman questioned,
" Oh!oh!" said Pinkie Pie, as she started to rattle off silly, child-like names,
"Where the hell is my princess!" I yelled as I threw my axe in an unblockable percision strike aimed to hit her chest. Somehow she caught it and said
"Oh you have your fathers axe, Hm? Who gave it to you, him or Celestia?" she said, my eyes widened as she said that,
What?! I thought.
"Well, does anyone know who I am?" she questioned,
" I know who you are! Your Nightmare Moon!" shouted Twilight,
"Then you must know why Im here" said Nightmare Moon.
"Your here to..... to.....", Twilight stuttered,
" Hahahahahaha! The night shall be FOREVEERRR!!" Nightmare Moon shouted. I stood staight up, my eyes wide,
