Fears - Part 1

The days are quickly turning... through the mist and the fog... the ponies are stirring... in fear and in loss...
The worst things in life aren't as shallow... Look towards the sun and happiness will follow...

My fears are yours and yours to mine, but my fear isn't yours but it is but mine.

Bang, Bang went the smacking of Motion Reflux hitting his forehead against a wooden surface. He couldn't sleep this night, nightmares have begun to plague his mind everyday since after the first day he moved into Swiftshocks mansion. Swiftshock was snuggling close against him in the bedsheets as they laid in the same royal-sized bed together. It was awkward but comforting as well as cute as he felt her hooves wrap around his body in a warm embrace as she was sleeping.

She was a present example of reality hidden behind a facade, he looked at her and smiled. Even though Swiftshock was valiantly insane, she was also very loving and incredibly kind, always looking out to help others even in her own violent ways.

His heart was beating at a midly quick pace and his cheeks were portruding a slight tint of red, going so far as to be able to sleep next to Swiftshock was one thing he'd never thought he'd get to. In truth he had believed that he'd be sleeping in another room in the mansion.

He pet her mane with a hoof and returned the embrace happily, turning his body to face her. Softly he pressed his forehead against hers, closing his eyes and finally falling asleep and hoping that this night wouldn't portrude any nightmares. He held her closer in fear that his wish wouldn't be fulfilled and that a horrific dream will plague him once more. He managed to finally fall asleep.

The night flew past quickly, the stars falling away and the moon being pulled down as the sun rolled upwards to signify that day has arrived. Motion Reflux had already snuck out of Swiftshocks home and made his way towards the library in the Western District.

As he was flying he took a look over to the Southern Tower, the blurriness of the fog hazing his vision but was still able to see the large cracks that crawled up the tower. He was able to view that there were no outer platform connected to the broken tower, figuring that they either fell off or they had to be taken down.

Just above, a pegasus flying over saw Motion Reflux flying so as a fickle treat he hocked a loogie down towards the speeding blue pegasus. Motion Reflux looked up to see the cruel joke awaiting him but he knew how to avoid this trick from experience in flight camp.

So he sped up his flight, his forelegs locked extended forward and his hindlegs locked in a straight fashion so his body was in the shape of a line. The counter worked as he picked up much speed to dodge the glob of mucus that fell right behind him but now he couldn't slow down since he was so near the Western tower.

"Oh crap!" he shouted as he covered his head with his forelegs, crashing right into the wall of the tower and then falling hard onto the platform of which the library stood on.

He shook his head and got up off his back, his plan today was to see if he could be friends with the patron of the library, he still knew that he had to make friends but at least he doesn't have to send letters every time about friendship like Twilight Sparkle did. He entered the library and close the enormous doors behind him.

The library was always so empty every time he visited, the only pony he could ever see was the brighty mint-cyan unicorn that was already sifting through the books one by one. He approached slowly and spoke, "Hi there!". She continued reading through her books but replied to him, "Welcome to the Skyfell Grand Library, please return any books you take out. How may I help you?" in the most brightly sounding but bored feeling voice.

He stepped forward and hopped over the front desk infront of him, standing on her side, "My name's Motion Reflux, what's yours?" he asks. The books in front of her fell as she released her magic and turned to look at him, her eyes were colored a soft blue and her mane was clean and well-cut. Her glare was awe-inspiring, unlike Swiftshocks and she answered, "My name is Discovery." she stood and he was able to see her cutie mark which was an open book with tendrils of electricity reaching into the center.

Returning his view to her face, "Nice name..." he waved his hoof and smiled, "D'ya want to be friends, Discovery?" she turned away in a spiteful motion and said, "I know that you really think my name is weird and I don't need friends, friends are just pawns in a greater game of an unachievable chess game."

Once more she sat down and her horn sparked, it wasn't a regular shimmer and glow like a regular unicorn's horn as hers was emitting small yellow electrical bolts on itself. It then began to glow and shine the minty-cyan color it should've done so before and she picked back up the fallen books and began to read the first one that was in front of her.

He tilted his head, confused at whatever she had just said and then she spoke once more, "Leave me alone, go read some books around my library here and take them if you want, they're all mine but I let anypony take them." She then picked him up with her magic and levitated him away from her, releasing her grip on him after she positioned him away from herself.

That plan didn't go as he planned so he looked around and then immediately exited the building. He feared that he'd anger Discovery and feared that it would freeze over his chance at making her a friend. "Plan B, leave her alo-" his loud thought was interrupted with an angry Swiftshock tapping her hoof deftly onto the platform.

Uh oh...

"Where have you been?!" she shouted at him, her eyes glowing a sharp red and her sharp vampire-like chompers were visible. She took a heavy step forward, "I'VE BEEN WORRYING ABOUT YOU, YOU SHOULDN'T SNEAK OFF ON ME!" she tackled him and wrapped her hooves around his neck in a hug, "I fear that I'd lose you like I lost Soothing Song..." she teared up.

He pet her mane and whispered an apology into her ear, returning the short embrace and then slipped away, standing back up and giving her a gentle nuzzle on the cheek. Swiftshock stood back up and smiled, flying back to the Northern District a minute afterwards.

A shadowy figure isn't the only thing that plagues the mind, but it is the corrupted kindness and horrible thoughts that create it...

Nothing is bitter yet sweet, but everything is sour...

Generosity will only take you so far...

He flew straight up to the highest platform that stood ontop of all four towers together. He'd visited it once with Swiftshock who had shown him around some of the actual northern district and he wasn't to explore the rest. One thing he also wanted to do was find where Plusle lived in the southern district.

Twisting his path so that he dodged the edge of the platform, he curved around the top of the edge railing and landed. The first thing he noticed was the many wooden buildings that he saw along the straight path he stood on the edge of and the sight of ponies disgustingly glaring at him. At least is was still a bright sunny day so that was one thing to look up at other than the other ponies.

A unicorn pushed him down with her magic and huffed, stepping over him while he grunted impatiently. Once in awhile he was able to overhear some small talk about some kind of elements and he believed that they somewhat knew what Celestia and Luna did know.

He got back up and began to explore, the path was a simple staight with some short extensions from the sides and ending with a large wall that surrounded the district like the walls he saw when he visited the northern district.

A thought arrived in his head, ponies in the northern district were much brighter and nicer when he looked and in the western district it feels gloomy and lonely. Shrugging it off he guessed it was because he was with Swiftshock and she'd scare anypony into doing what she wants.

Slightly letting out a sigh he quickly flipped and hovered high into the air, he was glad he had no fear of heights and it was natural to not fear heights for a pegasus. He soared back towards the edge of the large four-plate platform that had massive walls blocking each district with large steel gates connecting them and then dove off the edge.

Curling his wings to his sides as he let himself nosedive down the length of the western tower, a metre away from the ground he spread his wings and curved back so his forehooves lightly skid across the grass. Then he slowed down and landed on the ground, blowing a puff of air to push away the front part of his mane that was covering his right eye.

He needed to talk to Snowfall about a question that was rolling in his mind so he trotted towards the main castle in the middle, passing the guards inspection and then entering the main castle's gates to see the Princess laying sideways on the throne on her back who was twidling with her wings.

Snowfall turned her head to see Motion Reflux entering, "Oh Hello Motion! It's been quite lonely here in the castle since you've left." she rolled jokingly off the throne and stood up, fixing her mane, "Is there something you want to talk about?"

He nodded and sat in front of her, "I want to know how you even know Celestia and Luna..." and after he said that her eyes went small and she reared back her head. "Uhm... I guess I'm going to have to answer either way since I know you'll keep asking more and more if I don't."

She sat back on the throne in a proper, more mannerly way and began explaining...

~Flashback~

I was still rather young when they first visited Skyfell, their visit was usually a monthly check up on the town to keep together the fears and plights of worrying Skyfellians.

The sky was as clear as crystal, the grass flush green and the stone masonry-made buildings were abundant. Some buildings were larger and made of wood but most of the homes were made of low-cost cobblestone. Trouble was secretly brewing within the streets where hooded ponies would meet up at random positions in the town and what was seen was either a intensely small chat or an exchange of a concealed item.

Snowfall was laying back on a nearby cloud and brushing off her wings; she was known in the town as the fastest and best flier and she was in charge of managing the clouds in the area. Usually she'd go on a limb and make it snow for the hell of it, but she still had to follow suit with the ideals and plans that the princesses had put out for every town and city in Equestria.

She rolled over on the cloud and stood up, whipping her beautiful sky blue mane to the side and hopped off the cloud. Today was as any regular day when the princesses would come and check on the large town of Skyfell so she had to gather up with everypony else in the centre where the largest open area of the town was.

Quickly soaring to meet up with the crowds of ponies she waved to anypony that waved or greeted her as she flew and then she landed in the front of the crowd. Her ears perked and she listened to some ponies talking about a recent murder of a young earth pony outside the rich families mansion, there was also some talks about fears that the princesses wouldn't listen to their pleas for assistance.

Then she saw Celestia being carried into the front of the crowd in her royal carriage that was being pulled by two royal guard pegasi.

Celestia steps out of her seat and stands magnificently, "Greetings Skyfellians, I have received your requests and I will try to fulfill as many as I can to ease your worries."

Snowfall rolled her eyes and Celestia raised a brow, catching on to Snowfall but she continued to speak, "I will grant you the needed supply of water for the farmers that have been at a drought of it, I will bring a fresh supply of tools so that you can expand and upgrade your town. I will not change the weather schedule I have placed nor will I allow the technilogical advances that have been asked of."

She bowed her head, "You are a far ways from the mainland and I humbly apologize that I will not be able to grant a path or transportation towards it."

Snowfall stepped forward, "Princess Celestia." she bowed and then stood back up, "Where is Princess Luna?"

Celestia turned away, "She's... 'on vacation'... don't you worry little Snowfall, I know you two are great friends with each other but I don't think she'll be back for awhile." she let out a gentle sigh, "I'm sorry that I cannot provide any transportation for you all but I am trying my best to help all of you."

I know what you're going to say and yes, I've lived for over a thousand years now because of the prevailing technology here, giving me a pseudo-immortality that is all too real in some senses.

Celestia got back onto her carriage and was carried off and Snowfall stomped her hoof when she saw that the princess was out of sight, clenching her teeth. The weather schedule was a brutal task in Skyfell this year counting many scattered thunderstorms and a month of heavy winter, even though she loved the winter month she knew that it was a despair to many others.

The crowd broke away back to what each pony was doing before the arrival of the princess, some angry and a lesser portion was happy but most were neutral. She looked back as she was flying away to see the remainder of the crowd being hooded ponies, suspiciously idling in their spots. Shrugging the feeling of slight fear, she continued flying back home.

She lived as every other pony did in Skyfell, in a house on the ground. At least she had the comfort of a warm home made of comforting wood, the poorer ponies needed to live in the cold crude stone homes.

She entered past the door to her home, it was a plain house interior with the regular items that you'd see in a house. The special thing was the specially made cloud bed that she made herself, it was comfortable and cozy and was able to support the weight of any sub-species of pony.

As she made her way into her bedroom she took a check on the weather schedule this month the was pinned to her bedroom door. It was an approaching winter and the schedule shown heavy snowstorms throughout the month.

It made her cringe slightly when looking at it and then she pushed pass the door and into her room, hopping onto the bed and sighing. It was going to be a long month for her and everypony in Skyfell, she twiddled with her wings using her forehooves.

Closing her eyes one thought came through her head, At least it wasn't a rush of thunderstorms...

~End Flashback~

"...and Yes, Luna is one of my distant friends that I've known but we've never communicated since she left all those years ago until now." she finished her lecture, laying back on her throne and curling up her wings around herself like she was hugging herself.

She winked at Motion Reflux and smiled, "If you have anymore questions Motion, go ahead and ask at anytime I'm available."

Motion Reflux rolled his eyes and bowed his head in respect, leaving the castle afterwards to fly back towards Swiftshocks place where he was staying. The whole speech had made time pass by faster than he could've thought so he figured that getting back home is the best plan right now.
