It started with an Idea, an Idea that anything was possible, an Idea where we had the possibility of leaving this world and going to an Imaginary world that we created for ourselves. Or maybe someone else world that they created In their Imagination.
It started In July 11, 2012. I had just finished season 1 of My little pony: friendship Is magic going onto season 2, I had already made up my mind that, If the chance arrived; I would leave this world and Its cruelty behind and go to live in Equestria. I had It good In this world though, 3 meals a day In a house with basically everything I could have wanted, I loved my parents, I had many friends but... Everyday I saw more and more hate fester in humanity and I knew that something very big was coming.
But then that day came, I was on one of my daily jogs, as the crisp summer air filled my lungs I felt a change in the wind and everything around me began to shift. It was like an earthquake but slower. My mind went wild with possibility of what it could have been but none of them made any sense. Then as suddenly as it started everything shifted back into place and it was like it never happened. I did not know what to think so after a short pause I continued jogging but I could not get the ideas out of my head, no matter how loud my music was.
On my way home is when it happened, I was really tired from jogging but I pushed on until I saw... I can't really find words to describe it, but if I had to I would say it looked as if time, space, and light itself was being bent into a tear or ripple in front of me. I was speechless and frozen, not sure what to do, then... Princess Celestia herself walked out of the ripple, I was completely lost in my head. I thought about kneeling or bowing or something but I could not move, then she spoke softly her voice echoed in my head "You have been chosen to cross over from this world to mine, to leave all that you have behind. If you so choose, step into the rift." A mixture of almost every emotion formed inside me. All i could do is drop to my knees, the gravel on the road was unforgiving to my knee but I felt nothing. "C-can I say g-goodbye to my Family? My friends?" I asked in a shaky voice "I can't hold this rift open forever, make your choice now." she replied, and with that she disappeared back into the rift. I would never forgive myself if i did not go, but i won't be able to even say goodbye to my family. I thought it would be selfish if I left but foolish if I stayed so I took one more deep breath of warm summer air and jumped into the rift which closed shortly after.
The void was black as night with the trickle of other worlds a small yellow light appeared in front of me and it spoke with Celestia's voice “So, you decided to come after all.” the tone of her voice sounded cheerful, almost delighted. “Come, we need to take care if the details.” Her voice rose slightly “Pegasus, unicorn, or earth pony?” the sudden question caught me off guard. I paused for a moment “Pegasus.” I said shyly, her voice answered in a sorrowful tone “This part will be painful if you want to go back, now is the time.” I began to get worried but i knew this is what I wished for. “whatever it is, I'm ready.” I started hearing a roaring sound going through the void as if we were in a tunnel then my fingers began to tremble and then go back in on themselves the pain was excruciating but soon they molded into hooves. The same happened to my feet, with my toes going back in. It felt as if my fingers and toes were cut off and my arms were set on fire. Then with for loud cracks my arms and legs broke and began to reconstruct themselves. The pain was unbearable, I wanted to die but that was not the worst of it. Every bone in my body snapped and reshaped I could slightly feel my organs reshaping as well into the body of a pony. After that 1 more thing happened, my back split open in two holes that grew wings. It was the worst pain that anyone could have experienced. Then finally its was done i was a pony, i had a tail and everything. I was a light cyan/blue with a dark purple hair and a light strip of blue going through it. The yellow light stopped falling (as did i) and it pressed up against one of the twinkling lights, Celestia's voice appeared once more “Its not very often that i bring people from your world into mine, behave your self or the consequences will be grate.” then the twinkling light opened into Equestria. I have never been more happy in my entire life.
I stepped through the rift to be greeted by cold bitter air that sent a chill through my body. Everything was covered in soft snow, it was winter in Equestria. We were just outside town hall, all the ponys where wearing scarves and jackets but the first one to greet me was a flash of pink. I already knew who she was but i contained my excitement. She shook my hoof and introduced her self. “Hi I'm Pinkie pie, and you are?” I replied “Hi Pinkie pie my name is Andrew.” she spoke with such speed it was hard to understand “Andrew? That's an odd name, I hope we can become good friends!” I could not help but smile, was this really happening? Celestia looked at all the ponies and said “Be sure to give him a big welcome” and with that she teleported away.
The next person to greet me was twilight sparkle, she greeted me with a welcome to ponyville present; a book about the history of ponyville. She said “Read this when you have time, and welcome to Equestria.” “thank you.” was the simple reply that slipped from my lips. She walked off stage, and then i began to wonder where spike was... the next pony to greet me was Applejack we shook hoofs and she told me about her farm, but when she walked off stage it hit me... Wheres Rainbow da... before i could even finish there was a flash of rainbow across the sky as she dramatically landed in front of me. “Glad to see we have another Pegasus” as she spoke my heart almost stopped “Can you fly yet?” I did not try to yet but I stretched my wings out and said “I have never flew before but ill give it my best” And with that i jumped into the air and flapped my wings as hard as i could. I hovered for a minute then came crashing back down into an epic face plant. Every pony laughed but my excitement for flying the first time overwhelmed the feeling of embarrassment. “Keep trying and maybe one day you'll be as good as me.” and with that she dashed off into the sky.
After all the greetings were said and done it dawned on me... Rarity and Fluttershy didn't show up, so i decided to ask Applejack, her first reaction was “How did you know about them two?” I quickly answered “Celestia told me a lot about you and your friends, and how you represent the elements of harmony.”
she seemed unsure but finally answered “Well, Rarity had a really big order of dresses she needed to Finnish and fluttershy... well... shes just shy.” It made sense so i didn't question it, after all she is the element of honesty.
“I also forgot to ask, where will I be staying?” She looked puzzled, then pointed up to the sky and said “When night falls pick a cloud, that's what Rainbow dash dose.” I did not want to pester her about how i can't fly very well, so I decided to bid farewell to her and started exploring the rest of ponyville.
The snow made a pleasant crunching sound under my hooves as I through pony ville, the bitter cold was starting to irritate the tips of my ears. I needed to get some cloths but I did not have any money. Then the air filled with a sweet scent of baked pastries, i followed the smell to the Sugar cube corner. I knew this is where it must have been coming from. I thought about trying my hand at baking to make some money, but before i could even knock on the door pinkie flung the door open pulled me inside and slammed the door behind yelling “Get in quick! Before she comes back!” “What? What is it pinkie?” I asked hasty, but she only peered out the window as if she was spying on some pony. Then after a long pause she said “Its OK now, shes gone.” I was growing impatient. “Who?” I asked. she replied “Bon-Bon, where playing hide and seek” with a cheerful voice. Then she shrouded “Its all clear!” and then Lyra and Apple bloom walked out of a cabinet as Scootaloo and Sweete Bell stepped out of a closet and 2 other ponies got out from under a table. “Well as fun as hide-and-seek is, i actually came here looking for work.” I said, pinkie gave me a sideways look but before she could speak Bon-Bon broke down the door. Every pony scattered in every direction including me. Bon-Bon had a vary angry look on her face as she chased pinkie pie upstairs. I was so caught up in the moment that i opened the window and jumped out instead of using the front door.
I continued exploring pony ville, but still keeped an eye out for Bon-Bon. The cold air stung my lungs as I inhaled
I needed to find a place to stay. All of a sudden a snowball hit me in the back of my head i turned to see Rainbow dash behind a snow fort laughing. IT WAS ON. I quickly built a stable wall to hide behind, then Vinyl scratch jumped behind the makeshift wall that I made and started helping me pelt Rainbow Dashe's fort. Then, when we were out of snowballs, Pinkie pie joined with Rainbow in pelting our fort. Soon almost every pony in ponyville picked a side and was pelting the crap out of each other. After both forts were destroyed it was mass confusion on who was on whose team, then it turned into a free for all, but soon the sun was setting and all the ponys went back to there homes. What an interesting moment that was...
I Still had no place to stay so i got a little desperate and asked Twilight “Hey, I don't suppose theirs some floor space in that warm tree of yours that I could stay the night is there?” and to my astonishment she said “Of course, im always happy to help out a friend, but only for tonight.” to which I replied “I really don't want to impose though.” she merely smiled and said it was fine
as I walked into Twilight's tree I saw the inside was a lot bigger that I thought, with bookshelf upon bookshelf of books. I noticed I large mirror leaning on one of the shelves, as I approached it I could see
myself for the first time. My skin was a dark Grey and my main was 2 different shades of a darker purple. As my green eye's peered closer I saw that the front of my wings where different from any other Pegasus I had ever seen, they had twisted markings and an oddly bent shape. “Twilight, what is this?” I asked nervously and showed her my wing. “oh, thous markings on your wings, well there like...” she paused for a moment to gather her thoughts “Princess Celestia gives thous markings to pony that... aren't from this dimension. As a reminder” she said “if you where a unicorn, your horn would have been different as well.” she finished and trotted up stairs. As I lay on the warm wood floor I thought about why. Why do I need to be different...
The next day I was awoken by the sound of Twilight rusling though some books on a shelf. “What are you looking for?” I asked with a yawn. “A vary important spell book” she answered sharply, not an annoyed sharpness just a busy sharpness. “Thank you for letting me stay here.” I said as I opened the front door. “No problem, good luck out there.” she said and I closed the door behind me. Today is the day I learn to fly. I thought about asking Rainbow dash to help me, but i did not want her to see me crashing over and over. So i went to an isolated hill top and practiced by my self. I stretched my wings out and flexed them every way I thought I could. All i need to do is get as high as the clouds, so that was my gole I planted my hooves into the ground and with a mighty push i flung myself into the air and began to flap my wings. I was in the air for about 2 minutes hovering and trying to get higher, but i tired quickly and slowly landed gracefully on a pile of snow. “I need to work harder” i said to myself and continued practicing
after a couple hours passed i was almost to cloud level when suddenly a gust of wind tripped me off course and i came crashing down onto another pile of snow. As i poked my head out of the snow i heard a familiar laugh above me. My face went red when I saw Rainbow dash hovering above me. “How long have you been out here?” she asked. I stepped out of the pile of snow and shook off the snow that was still on my back. “A couple of hours.” I replied “All by yourself?” she asked retorecly “Your flying wrong, you need to alternate your wing like this.” As she demonstrated i started getting lost in her... gracefulness. “Are you playing attention?” those words snapped me out of my thoughts “Yes, please show me again?” i asked and she did. I Learned the basic concept and soon I was flying higher than my gole. Me and Rainbow started racing from one cloud to the next, with the wind in my mane i felt unstoppable but Rainbow dash won every race. Witch really was not surprising considering shes the fastest coolest Pegasus ever.
That night I was on a cloud watching the sunset over Equestria, pondering the chance of all that has happened.
Celestia said that i was “chosen.” chosen by who? And why me? I know other bronys would kill/die for the chance of living in Equestria, Why was i so special? And why was I different from every pony else I peered down to the earth below to see Fluttlershy walking back to her house. I still did not meet her or Rarity so i decided to float down to her. I landed a little bit behind her and said “Hi, my name is Andrew.” she did not even turn around she just ran as fast as she could, then i realized i should not have snuk up behind her. So i flew back to my cloud and watched the rest of the sun set.
But I had this bad feeling that... I'm not sure how to describe it... just a bad feeling.
The next day I awoke with a cold shiver through out my body, it was snowing over pony ville my cloud was just a little higher then all the rest so i did not see it a first. As I flew down i saw pinkie pie making a snowman with apple bloom. I continued flying, i wanted to see all of pony ville from a Pegasus perspective. I saw the beautiful, colorful world with eyes unclouded by hate or dispare. I was free of it all, the hate, the stress. I was truly happy
I stopped on a cloud over twilight's house because i had a strange feeling sompony was following me. Sure enough Rainbow dash was hovering 5 ft away “Hey umm, Andrew?” she asked, with a slightly shy tone witch was odd.
“Yes, Rainbow?” I answered a little to much happiness. “W-would you like to come watch me try out for the wonderbolts?” the tone in her voice was shaky and now I knew why. “I would love to.” i said cheerfully pretending not to notice she was nervous. The mixed emotions she was having made her face impossible to read. “Its tomorrow at 1:30, don't be late.” she said with a smile and as she flew away i herd her mudder something under her breath but it was too quiet to hear clearly.
Lator that same day as i was strolling trough pony ville, pinkie pie almost takeld me to the ground “Hey Andrew! Are you any good a baking?!? are you? Are you!?” she was speaking so fast i could not understand. “slow down pinkie, say again?” she took a deep sigh and asked slower “Are you any good a bakeing?” i thought about it for a second, the only thing i ever really needed to cook was ramen and that's basicly all i knew. So i replied “sorry pinkie im not good a baking.” she did not seem the slightest bit upset. Then with a yell “I will teach you!” “wait wha-” is all I could say before she literally picked me up and ran to her house. When we got there she set me down behind a counter. I almost felt violated about how she man handled me. “So we have a big order to fill so I need all the help I can get.” she said, and began pacing “but,” i tryed saying but she cut me off. “all you need to do is bake 40 cupcakes.” “But,” “it should not be too hard.” “PINKIE!” i said and she stoped pacing. “i don't know how to make cupcakes.” i explained. “I'm going to teach you, silly!” and she put on an apron “All you have to do is take a cup of flower, Add it to the mix!” I almost died from trying not to sing along all i did was sit there and smile. “Now just take a little something sweet not sour, a bit of salt just a pinch.” my excitement got the best of me as i started singing along. “Baking these treats is such a cinch, add a tea spoon of vanilla.” we said in unison as we put the ingredient together “Add a little more and you count to 4 and you never get you filla” we sang agane in unison. “Cupcakes! So sweet and tasty” she sang “Cupcakes! Don't be to hasty” I sang, then in unison we finished “Cupcakes cupcakes CUPCAKES!” the order was filled 40 cupcakes layed in a big box on a table. Pinkie smiled “I knew you could do it, here take this” she put 20 bits in my hooves it too cool to be out side with out clothing, go talk to rarity she knows all about cloths. “Thank you so much pinkie” i thought about telling her about her fan fic but... I decided not to, And with that I left.
After a few minutes of trotting i was at Raritys house. The snow would not let up and it was piling every where.
I knocked on the front door of her house and waited, the was no answer so i knocked again. Then i herd a loud crash from inside so I walked in to see rarity in the middle of a hug mess of fabric, scissors, needles and all sorts of sowing equipment, crying. I trotted carefully trough the mess. “umm excuse me but whats wrong?” i asked awkwardly. “My life is ruined!” she said trough her hooves. “whats wrong?” i asked again. “I have 30 dresses due by tomorrow for a royal party in Canterlot. And i have only designed 12 so far! I wont have enough time to design and MAKE them all.” i thought about how i took a sowing class last year so i knew the basics of sowing. “I could help.” i said with a slight smile. “You? What do you know about sowing??” “Not much but i know the basics. First of all you should organize some of this.” and with that we got to work. First organizing, we put everything in its proper place. Then she started designing the dresses and i did what i could with sowing. On one dress she stopped me and finished it for me. I was surprised that she did not do over all the other dresses as well, maybe she did not notice or maybe she time crunch was too much. soon we had all the dresses designed and made. “Thank you so much, your really good as sowing, would you like to be my assistant?” i knew it was a big opportunity, and was surprised that she offered the job so quickly. “Sadly no i will have to respectably decline.” i said modestly. “Your choice, but the option is still open.” “thanks but i rather just have a warm jacket please, that's really what I came here for.” i almost forgot about the jacket. “sure, by the way, i never got your name.” “Andrew.” i said cheerfully. “My name is rarity, its nice to meet another pony with a talent for sowing.” In less then 10 minutes she had my jaket done and it looked really warm. And OH MY GAWD it was warm, so so warm. Like sitting next to a fire and 10 blankets piled on top of you and it was soft, softer than any other cloud i ever felt. I handed her the 20 bits but she declined saying “You have done enough.” “Thank you.” i said and left.
It was still snowing when i stepped out side, it was about 12 inches high on the ground now. I did not know exactly what time it was so i flew about the clouds. Just after braking cloud level my eyes widend to see the most stunning sunset ever. My eyes scanned trough all the clouds that where reflecting the yellow/orange sunlight. My gaze rested upon a small Rainbow dot atop one of the clouds as i drew closer i say it was Rainbow dash sleeping on a cloud. She was so peaceful, i thought about laying next to her but i decided against it. I did not want to run the risk of waking her, she will need her rest for tomorrow. So i flew to a nearby cloud, curled up in my new jacket and started drifting. Then the bad feeling crept back in, it was like I'm running late for something. Like my time was running out...
The next morning, when I awoke Rainbow dash was sleeping next to me. On the same cloud. As awkward as that was i had to wake her, it was time for her tryouts. I gently nudged her awake. “Rainbow dash wake up! You'll miss the wonderbolt tryouts!” she rolled over with a yawn and simply said “The tryouts where moved back a day because of the snow.” and with that she was out again. That made no sense because other Pegasus could just move the clouds for the snow... I sat there in silence for a moment, trying to find out why i was on Rainbow Dashe’s cloud.
As I flew under the clouds I could see what Rainbow was talking about,7ft of snow covered pony ville
as I flew trough the cool air more snow lightly rained from the clouds. I saw big mac pushing a plow followed by a bunch of filly. Probably going to school I thought. I almost missed twilight house in the snow. I flew down to the window (because the door was blocked by snow) and knocked on it twice.
Twilight came trotting up the stairs and opened the window “Some weather we're having.” I said jokingly
she giggled opens the window and said “Come in, what brings you back here?” “Well... I was hoping you had a book for what I'm looking for.” I asked sheepishly “Well what are you looking for?” she asked attentively. “Something along the lines of...” there was a knock at the window and it cut me off. Applejack stood just outside shivering. Twilight opened the window. “We have a problem” AJ said as she trotted in.
“What is it?” Twilight asked
“Our storage barn has frozen over, we will lose all our stored food if it freezes any more.”
“We have no time to lose!” Twilight chimed and rushed out the window. Then suddenly everything became a blur, the floor wobbled and I fell to the ground. It all want black
I awoke in a soft bed, the smell in incense was strong in the room.
“Hes waking up!” I could hear Twilight's voice but it sounded muffled. My eyes opend slowly to find that I was in Twilight's bed with her and Apple jack on each side of me.
“What happened sugar cube?” AJ asked “I'm... not sure...” I answered honestly. “How long was I out?”
“An entire day...” Twilight said “but don't worry, we took care of the food barn.”
a headache flared inside my head. Then I remembered Rainbow dash's tryouts.
“Rainbow dash's tryouts!” Twilight chimed almost as fast as I thought of it.
“We can't be late! Are you going to be OK?” Twilight looked at me in concern
“I'm fine” i lied “Lets go.”
In cloudsdale, Twilight AJ and Rarity in a hot air balloon, me and fluttershy standing on a cloud next to them. “I hope she does good” fluttershy said with concern. She is still a little unsure of me as well. my head felt like it was going to burst. We watched some of the pegasi trying out, all with some really good stunts, but I knew what Rainbow was going to do. I knew she was going to win. And then there she was, in the performance ring. The stadium we were in was the same one from episode 16 of season one... the Sonic Rainboom. I could see Rainbow stretching, and for a split second I could see the doubt in her eyes... then fear creeped in and I began to worry. The horn sounded, and Rainbow dash began, flying this way and that. So majestic, so smooth... all I could do is stare in amazement.
Then the grand finally began and she flew up. Higher and higher with every second. Finally she stopped, only a speck in the sky. Then she started down, faster and faster with every moment. Soon she reached full speed, and I could see the air funnel around her. And then... BOOM. The loudest sound I ever heard as she broke the sound barrier. A rainbow filled the sky and the crowd cheered. But then something changed, she was supposed to slow down but she keeps going, past the stadium, hurtling towards the ground. Without thinking I raced after her.
Chasing her with all my might, seeing the wondebolts behind me as they trying to save her. But they cant keep up, I press on as fast as I can, no even faster than I can. I could see Rainbow now, she was passed out and her wing was bent oddly (must have broke on the explosion) soon I was right next to her and time seemed to slow. There was only one way I could hope to save her, we were too low to slow down. The ground was getting closer and closer. I kissed her on the cheek and the got under her. Tears in my eyes as we hit the ground.
I awake in a cooled sweat, my head shoots up in a panic. I pace my breathing and look at my hands, Fingers... not hooves. My back was clear of wings... I was back in my own world. Back with the hate and intolerance. Back with the fear and deception. Back with the sorrow and greef.
I cry, because that's all I can do.
