All Rainbow Dash wanted to do was clear the air about something that had been bothering her, and Pinkie decided right then to be Pinkie and ruin everything as always.     Not that she didn’t mind Pinke’s antics, far from it. Rather, it was the uncanny timing of her actions that was annoying. If Dash didn’t know any better, she would say it was almost intentional and had a deeper meaning than she realized. But given her current emotional state, she could just as easily chalk that assumption up to her imagination.     For a while now it seemed that there was something unspoken between the pegasus and the earth pony, and Dash always felt alone when it came to trying to figure it out. None of the others would understand, or in Rarity’s case, make the situation worse out of good nature. The nagging voice at the back of her mind, combined with her subsequent inexperience and her last failed attempt, made the pegasus a ball of emotional turmoil that could explode at any moment.     Dash had hoped to diffuse the situation and put her mind at ease. Throw it out there for the world to see and await the outcome. But the little slip of paper that had exploded into confetti and streamers moments ago changed everything. Pinkie wanted to see her, alone, for a special surprise.     Celestia only knows what she meant by that, but Dash’s current mindset jumped to the most impossible outcome. her imagination making things into what they weren’t again. At least she had an excuse to see the pink pony and try to fix this without the prying eyes of others.     Taking off towards the bakery, her mind began to wander to how she was going to say it. Or if she should even say it at all. The town below was a blur of colors as the pegaus made a beeline to Sugarcube Corner, awaiting answers that would probably never come.     The smell of something baking hit her as soon as Dash walked into the lobby. Pinkie was in the back banging around as usual when she came out to respond to the bell above the door.     “DASHIE! You’re here! Hold on!” With that, Pinkie was gone and back in a blink, balancing a heart shaped cake on her back.     “What’s that for?” Dash asked, trying not to stammer her words. The heart shape alone made her own heart pound faster. This was not at all how she planned this.     “It’s a pre-birthday cake, silly filly! I made it just for you! Unless you can’t eat it all by yourself...” Pinkie’s blue eyes seemed hopeful at being offered some of her latest creation.     “Well, we can share it, with everypony,” Dash replied. She forced a smile. Maybe with the others here Pinkie couldn’t do something stupid.     “No! Just us!” Pinkie protested, setting the cake onto the counter. She began to sloppily dive into her half, leaving Dash to stand in open mouthed awe at what was going on. No way Pinkie could be that dense, could she?     With a shrug, Dash helped herself to her half, and to her surprise it tasted pretty good. A dash of Zap Apple in the frosting livened it up quite a bit.     “Pinkie, why did you do all of this?” Dash finally asked.     “Because you’re my bestest best friend, and I love you silly!” Pinkie tapped a hoof to Dash’s chest and beamed a smile bright enough for all of Equestria.     “Heh...yeah...I love you too, Pinks...” Dash muttered, forcing a smile.
