Of Body Of Mind Of Soul: Chapter 1What Point Is There In This?

When they asked me to write this speech, I didn't know what to say. Was I surprised that I was graduating at the top of the class? Of course I was! However, I don't really see the point in long winded speeches. They are nothing more than the ramblings of someone that the school wants to point out is their crowning achievement for that year. It's not to insight the world as to what a typical student here at the Baxter School of Sciences. It's to show off who they think is the best student. Really if anything this speech should have to be told by a random student, not by me. I don't feel like there is any crowning achievement in showing off that I did the same work as everyone else. When people look back on this day I want them to look back on it and see the accomplishments we have all made as a group. All the friends we have made, and all the sacrifices and hardships we have endured to get to where we are today. This day is nothing more that a day of celebration that we all deserve for our effort. So do not look at me as anything but the normal student. We are all Baxter Hardrockers, and that is all that matters. Congratulations to all of the graduating class of two thousand fourteen.

"Well, what do you think?" I said to the tall woman that sat in front of me. It was incredibly easy to see the nervous sweat dripping down the sides of my face. It was one thing to give a speech to the entire graduating class, it was a completely different thing to give a speech to the President of the college for her to criticize.

"I have to say, that wasn't the best speech I have ever heard." President Lyrica sighed as she pulled her round spectacles off of her face and gave me one of her signature "I am not amused" looks. "What I heard was nothing like I would expect to hear from the only student in our history to be graduating egregia cum laude. That is something I would expect from someone who inched their way to a C+ right before graduating. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Issacs?"

"Not really, ma'am. It's just how I feel about this whole having to write a stupid speech thing for just doing my work." I said as I sat back down in the beige leather chair that sat on the opposite side of the room. Granted I knew that it wasn't the best piece of literature written in existence, but It was truly how I felt about it.

"I have to draw the line somewhere. Having our top two graduating seniors give a speech about their time at this school and about their experiences here is tradition. The only thing that I see here is you basically saying that you no longer want to be here, and your just glad to be getting it over with. The only usable things I can remotely see are the last few sentences, and those are mediocre at best."

"Well I am sorry you see it that way, but this is what I want to use." I stated firmly.

"I am sorry as well, but have no qualms about saying that I am not going to let you read this at the ceremony." She said, taking the hard copy of my speech off of her desk and sending it through the shredder. She stood up and motioned for me to stand as well. "Now, I want you to go rewrite that speech. I don't care if you like it, I don't care if you want to do it. If that was really how you feel, for the love of God keep those opinions to yourself. I just want you to write something that truly sums up your experience here, and I know you have had a good one, and I don't want any of this 'I don't give two flying fucks' attitude. You are an adult, Mr. Issacs, start acting like it."

She looked at me with a stern look, her deep blue eyes reflecting the serious nature of her words. "Am I making myself clear?"

"Crystal clear ma'am." I said with a small nod.

She nodded back before going and sitting back at her desk. "Good. You may show yourself out."

I didn't give her words a second thought before turning around and storming out of her office, her large cherry wood door closing with a heavy slam behind me. "Fucking bitch. What the hell does she know."

I adjusted the bag on my back and started on the long trek back to my student apartment on the far side of campus. It was a nice little way to walk, I had to admit, with the large nature trail that connected all of the buildings together. That was one of the few things that this college prided itself on. The upkeep of their forest-like quad was the most appealing thing about this place. Every inch of the square mile campus looked like it was a national park. Large spruce trees lined the cobblestone walkways, bushes and flower pots sat in rows around the the large sundial in the middle of the quad. Even the buildings looked more like giant cottages instead of abysmal class room buildings. It was a nice escape from the torments of finals week.

"SURPRISE! DEATH FROM ABOVE!" I heard someone familiar scream from behind me. I turned around and stepped just enough left to see a blur of red slam into the ground beside me.

"Drew, you are too fucking predictable." I squeaked, trying my best to keep from breaking out into a fit of laughter.

Drew groaned as he stood up, his cheek receiving  just a bit of road rash from the hard cobblestone. "Whatever, fucker. That's only the third time that I actually missed."

"I know, it's actually starting to get pretty fucking annoying man. You ok?"

He brushed the minor amounts of dirt off his pants and wiped away the small line of blood that started to form on his face. "Yeah, I'll be fine. No thanks to you."

"That's what you get for trying to sneak attack me." I snickered as I gave him a pat on the back. "Come on, let's head up to my place. I'll get that cleaned up for you and make some coffee."

He quickly agreed and we started back on the track to home. Drew was always one of those guys who everyone hated to love, but was everyone's friend. He was one of the most loyal and trusting people I have ever met, and even though seeing him get hurt gave me a sort of "karma is a bitch" satisfaction, I was seriously worried that he was going to hurt himself one day. Just like Rainbow Dash.

Wait....Who the hell is Rainbow Dash?

Meanwhile

Celestia shuddered awake from her sleep, the blankets flying off of her body as she screamed. "No, that can't be."

The doors to her room flew open as nearly a battalion of guards ran in. The ranking officer of the group stepped forward and looked at the startled princess. "Princess Celestia, what is the matter!?"

Celestia looked down at the guard with a sigh as she caught her breath. "Yes, thank you Portcullis. It was just a...a very bad dream."

"Are you sure, Princess. That was a very disturbing scream for just a nightmare." Portcullis asked with a look of inquisitive disbelief on his face.

"Yes, thank you for your concern but I am fine." She said with a small smile. "You all are dismissed, but please send in my...special consort."

"As you wish."

The guards filed out of the room, their anxious nature slowly returning to their normal vigilance as they returned to their post. Celestia paced around her room as she waited for her the pony she sought to speak with. "Where is she?"

"I'm right here." A voice called out from the window. Celestia turned to face the voice, the source being a mare in a large black cloak standing on the small ledge outside the open window. "What is it you need to speak with me about?"

"I am afraid that.. the unspoken event seems to be occurring once more."

"The unspoken event? I thought we stopped that from happening again by sealing off this dimension... That seal couldn't have possibly deteriorated this soon, it was only a thousand years old!"

"Well, it appears that once again I have overestimated the power of Star Swirl's sealing spells." Celestia said as she walked to the window. "But I cannot ignore the feeling of this dimension pulling two beings together again. Not with the gravity of the situation."

"Why? Is it stronger than what happened last time?" The mare asked, a small fleck of her sea foam green mane peaking out from the darkness of her hood. "Can you tell where the convergence is?"

"The convergence isn't occurring in the same empty place this time." The large white mare said with a look of sadness crossing her face. "It seems to be emanating from..."

Celestia closed her eyes and sighed.

"Ponyville."
