Chapter 5: I Need an Attorney

Time: Unknown Location: Unknown

“Wait, what?” I had heard what Discord had said clear as day, but my mind was at a loss on how it should process the situation. The chaos spirit had ceased his little ‘celebration’ and was now looking down upon me with a sinister grin. Taking a step towards me Discord places his paw upon my still confused form, slightly nudging me on. I was now walking with Discord as he continued his explanation.

“I can understand why you would be so confused, but I have been doing all of the explaining lately let’s hear it from you.” I stared blankly a moment at him before getting refocused. I then formulated a response.

“You said that only you can perform chaos magic. What makes you think I can do it? I mean, I’m just some random guy, I’m not fucking Harry Potter!”

“Who is ‘Harry Potter’?” Discord asks not understanding the reference.

“Not important, but can you please tell me how this works, the whole me doing chaos magic thing?” Discord’s grin grows wide as I am shoved forward. For a moment I feel as if I am falling before the sensation is halted by me crashing into something, a couch to be precise. After regaining my composure I get into a sitting position looking back up. In front of me Discord was dressed in some form of gown, you know those ones you see on all those historical scholars, and had conjured a chalk board which was floating in mid-air next to him. The draconequus picked up a piece of chalk from the base and had begun scribbling random illustrations at rapid speeds on the board. After that little show was completed a small cloud of dust created by the chalk remained. Once the smoke had dissipated, the board could now be seen clearly. Discord coughs a bit grabbing my attention. Looking to him, he nods in a formal way before pointing to an illustration of a human on the surface.

“This here is a human, you. Humans live in an environment where they have no natural connection to magic. Hence, they cannot manipulate the fields. Although that does not mean that the magical fields cannot affect the world around them.” Discord then points to a graphic resembling a Yin Yang symbol.

“This is an image I found while fishing around in your mind. It represents order and chaos, balance. Now it is impossible for a dimension to ever be in perfect balance. The scale is at a constant flux throughout the cosmos, but, there are some places that have maintained dominant energies. They are called Constant Energy Pockets, and guess what your little planet landed in.” I piece together his meaning. Before Discord could continue I interrupt.

“Wait, you mean to tell me that my world is in some kind of energetic field that dictates how everything on the planet works?” I ask.

“Exactly actually, you’re planet is placed right smack dab in the middle of a chaotic pocket.” I interrupt again.

“Wait, since I know this question will come up eventually, why me. Surely there are some other chaotic energy pockets in other parts of the multiverse or even this universe, right? Anyway, why choose a species that can’t use magic in the first place. I mean, did you even plan this through?” Discord casts an angered look.

“Of course I thought this through, now if you will let me explain.” I nod sheepishly. “Great, now to answer you’re first question. Yes, there are in fact many chaotic pockets in this universe, and also other realms. However, you would be hard pressed to find any sentient creatures living in one.”

“Why?”

“The simplest answer, they can’t handle it, the pure chaos around them, and end up destroying themselves.” My face morphs into a somber expression while I imagine the fate those many races must have experienced. Seeing this Discord puts his talon on my shoulder giving a reassuring smile. “You, you’re race, you’re species, it lives. You have endured things, horrible things that inhabitants on worlds like these could never imagine. Natural disasters, cosmic threats, disease, war… Although you kept on fighting, through all the pain you have prevailed. That is why I chose you Aaron, you can handle the chaos, you all survived.” I was astonished by the power Discord put behind those words, the pride. Did we really have it that bad compared to here? Even though I now know why I was chosen, I still need one more question answered.

“Alright, that answers why the humans, but still, we can’t perform magic let alone chaos magic. How do you get around that?” Discord snaps his talons as all the summoned items including his outfit disappear. The vacation of the couch causes me to fall right on my ass. Giving an annoyed look at Discord he only responds with an amused expression.

“Aaron, I never said that you couldn’t use magic.” Wait, huh? “However, due to lack of a natural connection in your realm the ability to control it is locked away. It is simply a matter of picking the locks.”

“How do we plan on doing this?”

“The plan is simple, since I can only appear to you while you are in an unconscious state we will work while you sleep. To unlock your ability to manipulate the magical fields we first need to establish a proper connection. This is the easy part. All you need to do is stay in this realm. This world’s magic connects with all living things, unlike you’re world. The body will naturally absorb the energy around it and form those connections with your mind. Once we have a proper flow, then we will train on how to control it.” I had now gotten up and dusted myself off while listening to Discord’s plan. Looking back to him I nod once more.

“Okay, I guess that’s fine.” I walk back to Discord’s side as a realization comes to me, but before I can voice my thought a surprised look falls upon Discord’s face. “What, what is it?”

“It seems you are waking up.”

“Wait, now, but I don’t feel any diff-” I cut myself off as I apperceived a wave of cold air blow throughout my body. For some reason I started feeling… lighter. That’s when I looked down. “Where are my fucking legs!?” I yell.

“Don’t worry that’s normal.” Discord assured me as I continued to fade. “Alright, quickly, do not tell anyone and I mean anyone of my presence here. That would mean bad news for both you and me. I will contact you next time you fall asleep. Be prepared!” Shortly after he completed his message my body starts to fade at a faster rate. Both my arms and torso had now been submerged into the void. Beginning to panic as the borderline reached my neck, I clamp my eyes shut. Moments later a loud snap and crackle resonates in my ears as I am thrust back into the world of the living.

Time 5:00 A.M. Location: Canterlot Dungeons

“Uugh, w-what, where am I? I can’t see.” I speak to no one. Wiping the haze from my eyes I observe my new surroundings. Below me was a smooth stone floor outlined by several cracks in the rock. Surrounding me were four symmetrical brick walls. Above, a ceiling perfectly resembling the plane below rested. It reminded me of some kind of medieval dungeon. The cell was cast in a gloomy grey undertone, the only deviation from this being the single torch light hanging directly in front of me. The dim lit flame only illuminated a small portion of the area, but was able to give me sight of an iron door sealed shut. In the center of this door there was a small slot, most likely used for food and communication. Resting in my corner I regain my bearings and begin to think.

Shit, this is really fucked up. I mean me, becoming a fucking chaos mage. I don’t know crap about any of this. It is like someone dropped my ass in a World of Warcraft game. I continued to sit idly before a thought comes to mind. As I reach down into my pockets I fish around for a few seconds, but come back with nothing in hand. Man, oh well, I guess they were smart enough to search me. I mean I did beat the crap out of a bunch of their guards then… oh fuck me. Why was I so stupid?! I basically assaulted their police force. Let’s hope I can bullshit my way out of this one. Maybe I should try and get someone’s attention. Looking back to the door I take a deep breath before yelling as loud as I can.

“Hey, is anyone there?! I would like to talk with someone, a lawyer preferably, if you have those.” I continue to lay there in the darkness waiting. Suddenly, the door emits a muffled screech before the slot in the center opens. Behind it were two glaring blue eyes. They look me over once before receding, the slot closes, sounds of trotting follows, getting quitter and quitter as the guard walks away from my cell. Now the waiting game…I wonder how long- before I could finish that thought the sound of a second pair of hooves grab my attention. As the noise increases I hastily get myself up from the floor dusting my clothes off. Standing there I hold my position. Then, the familiar discordant bellow emits from the door frame. This time the clamor was followed by a sliding sound, most likely the lock. Here we go... As the passage slowly folds inward light floods into the space causing me to lock my eyelids shut. Standing there bewildered I hear the presence enter the room then stop a few feet in front of me.

“Guard, head back outside and shut the door please.” A regal voice states in a feminine tone.

“Princess, are you sure I should leave you alone with this…thing?” Oh buddy you’re asking for it.

“I am more than capable of handling myself soldier. Please, leave us.” Silence ensues for a few instants, but the reluctant soldier eventually follows his order and leaves the room. Once the light is covered I flutter my eyes open to see my new visitor. In front of me stood a large blue mare, her eyes coming up to about my chest. She had both wings and a horn, and looked very familiar.

Oh no… She looks at me with a stern assertion.

“Hello, creature, I am Princess Luna, and you have a lot of explaining to do.”
