Scootaloo had just finished packing up her belongings. All she had in her backpack was a coat, some simple tools for her scooter and a portrait of her and her friends from when they were young. She had finally gotten her cutie mark. It was a scooter wheel with wings on both sides. She was seventeen years old with no high school diploma and no intention on getting one or going to college. There was a knock on her door.
“Scootaloo?” said Rainbow Dash, opening the door slowly. “Oh, good you're awake.” She gave a sad smile as she walked into Scootaloo's room.
“Yeah,” said Scootaloo “Just finished packing.”
“You don't have to go you know.” Dash tried to convince Scootaloo. “You can just stay with me, work with Pinkie for bits... You can start a new life here with me. I know I haven't been there for you as much as I should have... and I wish I saw it sooner. You wouldn't have been hurt if I'd just paid attention.”
Scootaloo had been living with Rainbow Dash for a month now, ever since that night when she knocked on her doorstep with a black eye, a bloody nose and tears in her eyes. It had turned out that Scootaloo's father has been beating her. When the cops got involved, Scootaloo confessed her father was drunk and has been beating her ever since she was a young filly. He was arrested that day. Rainbow Dash wanted to destroy the colt with her own hooves, but she was mostly angry at herself. All those years of Scootaloo idolizing her and the many times they hung out to practice flying, Dash had never known.
“It was my fault for not telling anypony, Rainbow,” said Scootaloo. “And I'll come back some day. I just want to be away. Start somewhere fresh. Thank you so much for letting me stay and for the offer.”
“At least take these bits.” Rainbow handed her a sack full of gold coins. “Just in case you find a place to crash, and food and what not.” Rainbow Dash's smile fell into a frown, “Promise me that you'll come back, squirt.” She then held Scootaloo in a full embrace. She held in her tears as well as Scootaloo. An hour later Scootaloo was on the outskirts of town with Appleboom and Twist.
“I wish Sweetie Belle was at least here to say goodbye. “ said Apple Bloom.
“She said she'll be able to visit in the winter.” said Twist. “Other than that, have a happy trip.” Twist smiled and hugged Scootaloo. Apple Bloom joined in and said, “I'm going to miss you so much! Make sure you write. I'm not moving anywhere.”
“I'll make sure I do.” said Scootaloo. Once they let go, she hopped on her scooter and was off to Celestia knows where ever she'll decide to stop. Scootaloo had dreams of traveling around Equestria and now that her alcoholic father was out of the picture, she was free to roam where ever she pleased. First place she wanted to visit was Manehattan.
