The many deaths of a Changeling: Chapter 1
I remember the day it all started. I was being my natural changeling self, hiding in plain sight. This time, I had almost been caught by a pony when I broke a window, so I quickly levitated the glass away and chose to masquerade as the window frame. Inside the building I was hiding on, two ponies were talking in main foyer of the town library. If I recall the event correctly, the ponies were a magenta Unicorn and a cyan Pegasus.
The Pegasus had brought the Unicorn a large crate, in it containing, as I heard the Unicorn say, was record books from the Royal Archives. The Pegasus looked inside the box, and brought out The Book. The Pegasus was apparently named Rainbow Dash, and the Unicorn was Twilight Sprinkle or something like that.
So I was sitting as the window still and then this happens.
“Just this page now… it reacted to my magic picking the book up, so maybe it’s reacting to something else? But what? And how? ‘Choose a target’, ‘Choose a target’, hmmm…”
Dash finally settled back on the floor, letting her wings take a quick break. “So, yeah. That’s my training. And you know what? I can do this. Sure, I haven’t technically been able to pull it off just yet, but that’ll change tomorrow. I’m pumped, I’m ready, I’ve worked hard enough, I always deliver when the chips are down, and, well, for crying out loud, I deserve it. I mean, you think so, right Twilight?”
Twilight stared at her books, her eyes in constant motion between the open page and the translation notes.
“Hey, Twilight? Helloooooo, Twilight. Can you hear me in there?” Dash walked forward and waved.
“Huh?” Twilight’s head twitched, and she looked up. “What? Oh, sorry, what were you saying Rainbow Dash?”
And then there was a flash, and Ms. Pegasus was against the wall. So, naturally, when she walked out the door, I decided to follow her. She proceeded to try to do a trick, crashed gruesomely into multiple trees, and disappeared. I went to investigate, and found her dead on the floor, looking very roughed up. Then she decides to scare me out of my wits and pop into existence next to her body.
I then teleported back to the library, used the spell on myself, and that's how it all started.
I transformed into a unicorn, set the book on the table, and walked outside, thinking "What could go wrong?"
"Watch out down there!" Yelled a voice. I looked up, and my face was smushed by an anvil. Grey brain matter sprayed across the ground, my eyes were made into soup, and my body was flattened into a pancake and juiced like an orange. Green blood flowed out of my wounds as my skin crackled another shade of sickly green. All the ponies on Mane Street gasped and some even threw up. I then felt my body being reconstructed a few feet away and *POP*. I was back and gasping for air.
Everypony had a look of shock on their face, but I just smiled and walked along. I put out my hoof, and saw that both my corpse and my regular body had lost the disguise. "Horseapples. That didn't go very good." I heard a mare scream, and then two Royal Guards charged at me with spears. "STOP IN THE NAME OF THE PRINCESSES!"
I laughed at them and threw myself towards the spears, causing the guards to gape in surprise. I impaled my stomach on one, laughed maniacally, and then took the other spear and stabbed the guard that held it. All the while, green blood was pooling around me.
Still laughing like a madpony, I stabbed myself through the hardened shell of my chitin multiple times. I went limp, and the guard just stared at me in shock. *POP*. I was standing in front of him, perfectly fine, while my corpse was weighing down his spear. I casually teleported to him and started beating him to death with my bare hooves. More laughing. I laughed as I gouged out his eyes, watched him writhe in agony, and saw him feebly try to resist.
"OH THIS IS JUST TOO MUCH FUN! HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAH" I yelled as he went limp and his eyes glazed over. I looked around to see that nopony had stayed to watch. "Good. Less witnesses. Now let me dispose of the bodies in that river." I walked over to the river, threw them in using telekinesis, and heard a bang above me. A poof of rainbow colored smoke appeared as a meteorite trail dissipated into thin air.
Looks like that pegasus found some use after all. She became a living distraction, dying and causing ponies all across Ponyville to forget about me for the moment. I threw myself into the forest at the edge of town, and waited for the night to come.
