"Applejack! Time to eat breakfas'!" Granny Smith knocked on the workhorse's bedroom door. The latter opened her door groggily. "W-What's ...."

"What's for breakfas'? WELL! Of course apple fritters, ya'll favorite!" the aging mare jumped about, despite her old age and shaky bones. Applejack dilated her eyes. "Oh, no, Granny Smith! Ah don't like apple fri'ers no more! 's there any more apple pie?" The pale green mare stopped her jumps. "W-WHAAAAAAAAAT???????????!!!!!!!!!!!"

"W- Ah'm sorry, Granny Smith! Ah-ah promise ah'll eat 'em!"

"YOU TOLD ME TA MAKE APPLE FRITTERS AND THIS IS THE THANKS AH GET FROM MAH OWN GRANDDAUGHTER?!!!"

Granny Smith screamed in Applejack's face. The latter whimpered. Ah'm sorry, G-granny...." her ears drooped and her hat fell. Granny's huffs and sickening glare softened. "Well, Applejack. That's good ta know." And with that sinking in, she trotted off, in her own happy-go-lucky mood again."Whew."

The freckled mare trotted down the stairs, with one hoof on her beloved hat. When Big Mac and his youngest sister saw her, they began to snicker, which turned into coughs and hacks. If Applejack noticed that, she paid no heed and sat down on the only vacant seat. Just then, Applebloom turned to her big sister. "Freckles, did ya hear 'bout ar new pet? It's sooooooo excitin'! Right, brother?"

"Eeyup." the big stallion said. The farmpony widened her eyes. "Y-ya'll mean...a pet for ourselves...?" Granny Smith chuckled. "Ooof course, my cheese apple(Applebloom stifled a gag)! Ah mean, ya're responsible enough to take care of a puppy!" she winked at the shocked orange mare. Wild thoughts raced throught Applejack's mind. She was getting a pet of her own.

"Here's five hundred bits, darling. Now get 'em!" Applejack clapped her hooves together, took the ruck sack by her mouth, and trotted down Apple Street. As she trotted to the famous petshop, the pony always squealed whenever she saw the silhouette of a dog  in the windows of shopping malls. Finally, she stopped at a big building with black bones plastered all over it. "Dog Market." Applejack whispered to herself. She mustered enought courage to open the front door. The bell on the door rang and made a beautiful chime sound. As the door opened, the farmpony found herself face to face with a light yellow mare with a blue mane of the same paleness. She smiled widely and greeted Applejack. "Welcome to the dog market! Technically, it's not really a market, but you get the idea. There are so many puppies of all breeds here!"

AJ looked all around her in awe. "They...are just...SO CUUUUUUUUUUTE!!!!!" Applejack made the most high-pitched fangirl squeal ever. The shop owner stared at her with an "O" shaped mouth, then started to collect herself. "Well....OH! This might be the one! A beagle with unusual markings! Or this Dalmation! The spots are unusually black and thick! Very nice! Those are the bestsellers in our petshop!" Despite the yellow mare's recommendations, the orange mare pointed to a tiny puppy(in dog terms, not general) that had a ruffled up coat, with pointed ears, and with brown patches all over it. Her heart melted at the very sight. "May ah have this cutie-wootie thing here? And how much does it cost?" The owner tapped her chin, muttered something, and then replied,"A hundred and fifty-seven bits." She looked unsure. "Do you have the money to pay for it?" The apple-bucking mare laughed, then said," Ah've got more than enough! Here, the bits." she handed over the exact amount. The owner put it in the cash register box, then unlocked the glass cage the puppy was in and put it in a proper metal cage."She is a female, by the way. Have a happy day!" Applejack sinked into a bow, and galloped off to the Apples' farm.

"Howdy, fellas! Woo! Ah'm super energetic today! YEEEE-HAAAW!! What should we name it?!" The rest of the main family members looked confused, then giggled and had a look on each of their faces which clearly meant,"Oooooohhhhh...THAT thing.." After that silence, Applebloom shouted out a name," Windypatch!"

"Marsh Vanilla!"

"Chocolate Bark!"

"WINONA!" Everypony's attention turned to the Element of Harmony, then nodded approvingly.

"Winona...nice, sis!"

"Well, no beh'er name than tha'!"

"Eeyup!"

"YAY FOR WINONA!" the family exclaimed. Each of them slapped hooves with each other, though the ponies had to tip-hoof to reach Big Mac, especially Applebloom, the poor filly. After the mini-celebration, they let the puzzled puppy out for some fresh air and space. Applejack bent down, snout to snout with the new pup, and whispered, smiling,"Welcome to your new family." Winona woofed happily and licked the farmpony with her pink tongue.
