Z-Day. The Story of the Undead Ponies.
Lily stumbled out of the apartment building and into the street. Ponies ran in every direction screaming. Lily pushed through asking what was going on. No pony answered. A young filly sat crying in the street. It was scared and looking for his mother. A pony Lily assumed to be the mother galloped by and swooped him up into her teeth. Lily stopped a stallion in his tracks.
"What is going on!?" she screamed into his face.
"Run." He stumbled by her and scrambled down the street with the crowd. Lily just continued to stand in the street dumbfounded. The last of the crowd galloped past as Lily stood in the now empty cobble stone streets. The sound of the last pony's hoof steps echoed off the buildings around her. A paper rolled past in the wind. A stench followed it. Lily's ears lowered as she tried to identify the rank smell. Soon, it hit her. Lily turned down the street to finally see what the massive mob of ponies were running from. The silhouette of a single pony approached her. Lily backed away slowly. Its jaw became slack. A moan began to gurgle its way through the red liquid that dribbled from its broken teeth. Lily stumbled back in fear. She tripped over herself and landed on her rump. Tears began to run down her cheeks. Lily was horrified. She had never seen anything so disgusting. A large piece of flesh was missing from its right jugular. Blood stained its coat a dark red.
As Lily tried to regain her footing, more of these beasts began stumble out of ally ways and from the interior of the buildings around her. She began to panic. What seemed to be an endless number of them now slowly made their way in her direction. She looked around herself for a way to escape. The moans and the stench of these unknown creatures dulled her senses entirely. Suddenly, a shout came from down the street. A pony stood in the doorway of a large apartment build. He waved a hoof at her.
"Hey! Get over here!" He screamed at her. Lily instantly took off toward him. The beasts behind her began to let out a loud moan in frustration. Their gnawing jaws ran red with the blood of their first kills. The wall of infected ponies began to gain speed behind her. Their hoofs now trotted at a slow running pace. The pony in the doorway stepped aside as Lily galloped as fast as she could. The pony slammed the door shut behind them and he quickly pushed a large book case in place to baracade it. Almost immediately after the were safe inside a series of loud thuds began to permeate from the door. The book case shook with every hit. A few novels clattered to the floor. The mysterious pony turned to Lily.
"Come this way," he said to her. He quickly galloped up a flight of stairs. Lily did her best to follow but years of no physical activity took its toll on her. She gasped for breath as they reach the top of the stairs. The other pony was already bucking out a window to the fire escape. The glass shattered and the pony turned to Lily. Just as he did so, a sound of the door exploding below and the roar of the monsters as the poured up the stairs sent a chill down Lily's spine.
"Let's go!" He screamed Lily turned and bolted after him. They stood on the fire escape and looked back as the infected ponies trotted after them. "Go, I'll catch up!" He turned and bucked an infected pony in the head. The pony's head caved in with a splattering report. Lily gasped and managed to make her way up the fire escape and onto the roof. She ran to the edge and look to the carnage down below. Ponies were actually eating the flesh of each other. Large pools of blood stained the cobble stone streets. Lily put a hoof to her mouth and began to sob. Ponies in all directions were screaming. The sound of breaking bones and intestines splattering followed every shriek of terror. The moans of the infected ponies could be be heard for miles. The stench of the corpses decomposing already had begun to fill the air. Lily spun around.
The male pony crawled to the top of the fire escape and kicked an infected pony off the side. He quickly began to buck the side of the fire escape were it connected to the building. The bolts started to bend out of place and the whole fire escape began to shake. The last of the bolts came loose and the fire escape began to collapse. As the male pony leaped from the fire escape and onto the roof, he lost his footing and slipped. He barely caught himself. Lily rushed over to help. After a short struggle, they both stood on the roof.
Together the examined they city around them as it died. Many of the blood-curling shrieks had been silenced by the hungry mouths of the infected ponies. Something exploded in the distance lighting up the dusk sky with a sudden flash. The sound wave could been seen as it quickly traveled across the roof tops. The echoing boom blew across them. The red mushroom cloud from the explosion blackened and ascended into the clouds. Pegasi could be seen flying high and watching the massacre below. A few panicked pegasi collided midair and fell to the ground. They were instantly swarmed and feasted upon. Unicorns and earth ponies could be seen scattered on the roof tops. Many were crying. Lily turned to the stallion. Tears dripped from her chin. He walked up beside Lily and look out to the city. His eyes showed a great sadness. His face was stern and his coat was brown. His mane was cropped short in a militaristic style. The pony turned to Lily and smiled.
"Hi, I'm Fiddle Sticks."
