Jamin’s Adventure in Equestria Chapter 1

Disclaimer: I don’t own MLP:FiM

I do own my characters and the ideas behind my story.

A figure is seen laying on a hill near Sweet Apple Acres. He is laying on his back, his wings ever so slightly extended. Compared to everypony else Equestria he is completely different. Sorry about the shifting between how I see things and how it would look from somepony else’s point of view. I have a natural tendency to say things completely different from how they are “suppose” to be said. I bet you are wondering how I actually got here, after all I am a human and this is Equestria. Well it is quite the interesting tale.

It all started two years ago, actually it was two years ago on this day. I had just returned home for the weekend from my job, being a Information Security Analyst Supervisor for the US government’s main data base network had some perks. My job wasn’t too complicated, but I still had to keep everyone on track and manage the schedules for certain scans so that they weren’t conflicting. I was on good terms with the management department so I was able to get a three day week end to take care of my father. Seeing as my father was getting quite old, being that he was 66, I needed to take care of him so that he was able to live a the rest of his days happily.

While I was normally in Washington DC working I was always able to get a significantly cheeper flight back to Redmond Oregon where my dad’s house was. I arrived in Redmond just a bit before sunset. After the long flight time I was finally able to get to my dads house, which was a short cab ride from the airport. When I arrived the porch light was off but the door was locked. Assuming that he was out on a walk I let myself in using my spare key. Despite my assumption I found our dog laying on the kitchen floor.

Figuring my dad was simply working I called out to him, but I got no response. After I set my stuff down in the kitchen I went out into the living room to find my father laying on the couch. I went over to him and shook him to wake him up, but he didn’t. I shook him again but to no avail, he wouldn’t wake. It was at that moment when I noticed that he wasn’t breathing. When the realization hit me I couldn’t take it. I just collapsed, tears streamed from my eyes but I made no sound. I laid my head against his chest and cried until no more tears came to my eyes. I dragged my self to bed. Before I knew it I was out like a light. I slept through the night.

It wasn’t till the next day that everything got worse. When I went into the kitchen I found my dog, who was a golden retriever, dead. Apparently my dad had died not long after I left for Washington D.C. so our, my, dog hadn’t eaten for a long time. Starvation and sadness were most likely the cause of his death, he probably died during the night since I had completely shut down and cried myself to sleep. At this point I just lost it. I did the only thing I could think of, I buried my dog and called the police. I told the police everything that I knew and after they left I completely broke down. After everything that had happened I just felt hollow. It was like everything inside me just died.

Feeling so hollow and lost, I couldn’t feel the will to live anymore. I sought to end it all, and I tried. I grabbed an old belt from a martial art that I had once taken, which was laying on a shelf to display it, and I tied it tightly around my throat as I sat on my bed. I laid back and waited for the end to come. It was only moments later as I could start to feel the end come that a person arrived at the back door to the house. I was too close to dying that I was unable to hear this person enter.

The person turned out to be a friend of mine by the name of Silvia. She was sent to check up on me and to help me. My employers had received word that my father had died and asked her to come and see me. Silvia had seen my form through my blinds and went straight to my room. Seeing the belt around my neck she had freaked out. She quickly got the belt off of me and called for an ambulance. I was carted off to the hospital and was released an hour later. After I was taken back to my house where I just laid in my bed. I didn’t try to kill myself again, but I didn’t do anything else. I just laid there, I refused to eat, or talk, or get up.

After two days of this I finally got up. I couldn’t just lay there anymore. I was going to be brought back to Washington later that day. I was really pissed that they were going to make me come back to Washington so that they could “keep an eye on me.” I was angry and I wasn’t in my right mind at the time.

I had managed to figure out how to make an incendiary compound that I could use to light the house ablaze. It was a very crude set up. I had made it so that I could simply pull a sting and add a compound of sugar and sodium chlorate to a jar of sulfuric acid. This combination would make a good sized fire and a simple rock drop catapult was all it took to launch it.

I did this just before I left, but I knew it wouldn’t be enough to destroy the house before it could be salvaged, so I used some of my limited knowledge and made a small but powerful bomb using gasoline sealed in a glass bottle and a fuse. I also poured gas all over the house. It was absolutely insane when the bomb actually went off. I had found a way of setting up the activation of the bomb and incendiary device with a timer. I could see the smoke from the airplane window as we flew north.

When I arrived I was taken to my apartment and told that the government was going to pay for me to have therapy. Normally they wouldn’t but I was their top expert in security and didn’t want to loose me to depression and suicide. After six months of therapy, during which I wrote down everything that I knew about security down, I had intended to quit. When I went to tell them that I was quitting they offered me a once in a life time deal. In exchange for testing out a new military device they would pay me five hundred thousand a year. It would be more than enough to live off of very comfortably and I would never have to work another day in my life. I agreed and two days later that I was called in to a special base not far from the capital.

The device I would be testing was a new quantum teleportation array. They had me attach some monitoring equipment before they sent me onto the platform. Once they engaged the device I could feel my body being torn into billions of pieces. Theses parts were accelerated across space and I found myself in a similar lab but everything was slightly different. The colors were slightly darker, but what gave away that it had worked was that the people looked completely different. I was as happy as was everyone else. Things seemed to be looking up, but that was when everything went to shit. When they suggested that they tested the return trip they hit a snag. There was a set of solar flares that were lashing out from the sun. the people said that it would be fine, that the teleporter would work perfectly regardless of the flares.

I believed them, but that was the last mistake that I ever made on the planet I called home. The sensation of the teleportation was different from what it was before. Instead of a gentle but forceful deconstruction of my body, this was a very painful and slow deconstruction. As it was working I screamed from the amount of pain. It was unbearable, I think I even blacked out for a moment. Thought the deconstruction wasn’t the worst part, it was the travel. The motion brought a burning sensation, one that made me feel like I had passed through the sun.

While the travel was short in comparison to the grander scale of time it was also a lot longer than it was suppose to be, instead of a few seconds it was more like a few hours. If I had a watch on I would have bet that the total time was about two and a half hours, give or take. The whole time there was pain, and not just a mild pain like I had been cut on the finger. The pain felt like my legs and arms were being ripped off of my body. It was excruciating, and then there was nothing. There was darkness, there was a cold feeling, and then there was the spark. I could feel the reconstruction of my body and then the wind.

I was falling, I could feel the wind rush past me, and as I fell through the air I could feel something in me shifting. I could feel the energies that have coursed though my body since birth shift. These energies that have been with me were something that I had never told anyone about. The main purpose of the energies were to allow me to feel others emotions. This was a double edged sword. On one side I could feel others energies and know how to help them feel better if need be, but on the other, it created a reciprocation in me. It basically made me feel others emotions even if I didn’t want to.

Though that’s not all that this gift could do. While these energies coursed through my body I was also able to channel energy from a higher plain. The energies that I could channel were used for healing others, and while they weren’t as good as a pharmaceutical medicine it would help other people’s bodies heal themselves faster.

Anyway, as the energies shifted I could feel something growing out from my back. It was by no means pleasant to have bones grow out of my back and take the shape of a pair of wings. Though it was painful at first the actual generation of the feathers and the skin over the bones wasn’t so bad. While that was happening I could still feel some of the energies shift to the center point between my wings.

Upon feeling the energies I could tell that they had changed drastically, instead of the once subtle energies that allowed me to feel emotions they had become a powerful node that channeled what I now know as the Arcane. This spot opened up so many possibilities to me. I could feel the energy that was at my command. It was only upon opening my eyes, after the amazing revelation that my energies had changed and given me wings, that I noticed that I was still falling.

In pure terror, which the sight of the ground brought, I was frozen. I was about a hundred meters above the ground and falling fast. In my panicked state I did the only thing that I could. I put my hands in front of my face and hoped for a miracle. What happened next was the least expected thing; the “energy core,” as I had thought of it at the time, sprang to life, and a small but dense shield encompassed me. This shield was three inches thick and made of a hardened glass like substance and while the shield protected me from dying the use of it combined with the impact left me in a coma.

When I awoke I was in a hospital, I had no idea where I actually was, or how I had got there, but what I knew was that my head hurt like hell. It was only a moment later when a nurse came in to check on me. She was surprised and happy that I was awake. Since I barely lucid at the time I didn’t realize that she wasn’t human. I looked at her and noted her features, she was a white pony with a hospital cross cutie mark on her flank. I tried to sit up a moment later to see if that would snap me out of my daze, but the nurse told me to relax because I had just awoken from a two month long coma. I fell asleep not long after and woke only an hour later.

When the nurse walked it I finally noticed that she wasn’t a human, but a pony. With the realization I spouted a stream of profanities in my surprise before passing out. The time after that was fuzzy until the next morning, though I do remember one thing, and that was apologizing to the nurse for yelling at her. Upon waking up in the morning I felt stronger, and I was able to sit up. I was only finally getting a grasp on the fact that there were ponies taking care of me when everything seemed to fall apart again.

Just moments after having sat up the nurse came in and was followed by two winged ponies in golden armor. A moment later a very tall pony entered the room, her wings ruffled a little before she sat down a little way from the bed that I was in. I know now that they are called Alicorns, but back then I would have called her kind a Pegasus, a Greek mythological creature that was a winged unicorn.

Though her arrival wasn’t what shattered the peace that I had just recently found, but the regalia that she wore. I knew it all to well. You see, in my dimension there was a show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I had believed that it was simply a story and nothing more, but with the arrival this Alicorn I knew that it wasn’t just as show. As to how I was absolutely certain that it was really her was because I had once hand crafted a set of chain-mail regalia modeled after her’s. The set sold for a good two hundred dollars, but that is aside from the point.

Before she could address me I introduced myself, I told her my name. I believe I forgot to tell you my name, my name is Jamin. My full name is Jamin P. S. E. Rose. While I had felt like my peace was shattered, I believe that I actually left the Alicorn speechless for a minute. My prior state of shattered peace paled in comparison to the shock that my introduction left the Alicorn in. My introduction ended with, “It is an honor to meet you, Princess Celestia, Lady of the Sun and Co-Ruler of Equestria. Sister to Luna, Lady of the Moon, and the other Co-Ruler of Equestria.”

“I am impressed,” Princes Celestia stated after coming to her senses, “you know of me and my sister, yet you are clearly not of this world.”

“Well, Your Majesty, the world that I come from was graced by a viewing spectacle in which you and this world existed. It was started by a women named Lauren Faust.” While I had more to say, the look on the Princess’ face was one of sure surprise, and a level of surprise that I have never seen before. “I take it you know her?” I asked politely.

Celestia nodded slowly, and after a while she spoke. “I remember her, she was just a child when she arrived here. I still have no idea how she appeared here, but I know she was so curious about us. Obviously she never forgot what she saw here, but that is a story for another time. Tell me, how did you arrive here?”

“Well, it is a sad tale. It started after my father passed away, I had lost myself to a bit of insanity and nearly joined my father in the after life, but I was saved and found something to live for again. It was after I finally came out of my depressed state that I was asked to test some kind of teleportation device that my people came up with. It started normally, and the first use was a success, but it wasn’t until the return trip that things got screwed up completely. It was something to with the sun, since it is a body that we, as a people, have no power over it lashed out with a flare or something like that and I was forced out of my teleportation course and into your world. The rest you should know.”

“I do indeed know. Though I am surprised my little ponies have been so… relaxed, around you. You are after all, not like them and very different from what they are use to seeing. I hope that they will always be this kind and accepting to you.”

“As do I, Princess. Though, I can shed light on why they are so calm. It appears that they are experiencing a ‘calm’ time and are finally happy that the piece is restored. Though the over all emotion is once of relief.”

“You can tell what they are feeling?” The Princess’ eyebrows raised in curiosity and disbelief at my statement.

“Yeah, I guess you could say that is one of my special gifts that is still useable here.”

“That is amazing, I have never heard of someone being so empathetic that they could actually tell the emotions of a populace.”

“Please, it’s not really that special. Actually at times it becomes a curse. I have ways of shielding myself but they never block out everything. It can be a problem, especially when two students from the school you go to die and the entire downtown area that the school occupies is charged with sadness. I remember it so well, because that sadness was so strong. It felt like someone had taken a massive pike that was about a foot in diameter and shoved it through my gut. That was the first time that it had ever really been proven to be a problem.”

“I am sorry to hear that, but Equestria rarely has things like that happen.” The princess’ comforting voice calmed me down. “So, I know that you probably will feel lost in this new world, and without the means to send you back I believe that it would be best for you to stay with my personal protégé. Perhaps she can help you out.” With that she pulled out a piece of paper and a quill, yet she seemed to be unable to find her bottle of ink. “It seems that I have lost my ink bottle. Guards could you-”

Her sentence was cut off as a I closed my eyes for a moment and them opened them creating a small flash. Once the flash died down a bottle of ink was floating in front of Celestia. “Is that what you needed?” I asked as I returned to my normal composure.

“Y-yes, but how did you do that?”

I shrugged, “I have no clue, all I know is that my wings fluttered for a moment there and then my eyes gave off some kind of flash, then the bottle was there.”

“Well, thank you for the ink.” She quickly wrote a message and sent it via a small burst of magic. “I have sent word to my protégé that I have a new task for her. To help you adjust to life here in Equestria.”

“Thank you Princess, I am honored that you would ask your personal student to help me.” My tone was ecstatic but more because of the fact that I would be able to meet someone who loves books as much as I do.

The princess chuckled at my response, “it seems you already know of my student. So tell me, why are you so happy to meet her?”

“Well, it’s mostly because it will be nice to meet her. She is, after all, a very avid reader and I am as well. I also can finally meet someone who love books as much as I do… what? Did I say something wrong?” I asked as her face was once again surprised by my response.

“No. No you didn’t say anything wrong, it’s just that, well is there any other reason you want to meet her?”

“Nope, why? I know your hiding something, it is written in your emotions.” I look her directly in the eyes, whether or not I was suppose to.

“Well, she has recently come under, unwanted ‘attention’ and I am starting to worry that it is making things awkward for her.”

“I understand, though let me assure you that I have no such intentions towards her.” I was completely sincere. Though I found that awkward was the weakest word to describe Celestia’s face after I said that. She was slack jawed, and let me tell you, it is hard not to laugh when the most powerful pony in all of Equestria goes slack jawed.

“Jamin, was it?” Celestia asked to which I nodded, “I have to ask, why do you have no such intentions towards her?”

Her question left me speechless. I was honestly not expecting this. To top it all of, by my own foolish choice might I add, I was actually bound by my own moral code to tell her the truth. It was thanks to a lie that caused me great pain that I added this part; however there are some situations that require a lie, and only in those situations will I ever lie to others. I looked away from her and said “Because, princess, I do not feel any attraction to women, or as you would say, mares.”

I was half expecting… I don’t actually know what, but I was terrified. What happened next was the last thing that I expected and apparently the guard were shocked too. Princess Celestia placed her hooves on my shoulders and gave me a hug. It was then that she shared with me a secret, one which is now is known through out most of Ponyville. She told me that Twilight was Bi, and she told me that, at the time, Twilight was having a hard time dealing with it and trying to find love.

After she pulled back from the hug I told her I understood and that I would be there to help her if she needed it. It was only moments later when the said purple unicorn we were just talking about arrived. I gave her a nod of my head and introduced myself with a simple introduction meaning my name and a ‘nice to meet you’.

“So, you’re the one I’ve heard of,” Twilight said, “I’m Twilight and it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“Please, the pleasure is mine,” I replied half aware of what I said. I was studying her aura and emotions. I could feel the underline insecurity, and confusion that were manipulating her surface emotion. Just as I was about to look closer a hoof waved in front of my face, jolting me out of my observations.

“Are you okay,” Twilight inquired as she looked into my eyes. I nodded at first before even considering what I would say to her.

“Sorry about that, I was looking at your aura and emotions,” I apologize, “Seeing emotions and auras comes naturally to me, and since we hadn’t met until now I kind of went into a studying trance while looking at your aura and emotions.”

“So, it is true, that you can use magic?” Twilight’s natural curiosity took over.

“Yep, would you like a demonstration?” I offered before letting out a groan as I stretched my legs a bit.

“Please, I would love a demonstration!” Twilight exclaimed giving a small hop of excitement just like a foal would.

“Then be ready to be amazed,” I closed my eyes and pictured a cloud, and with a small flash from my eyes it appeared in front of her.

Somewhere far off in the distance a loud thud could be heard, as a cyan blue Pegasus landed on the roof of a barn with startled groan. However back in the hospital Twilight poked the with her hoof and it drifted towards me.

“How was that as an example?” I ask trying to gauge her emotional response to seeing my style of magic.

“That was so cool!” The volume of Twilight’s voice caught me off guard, and her emotions reflected her voice. They were happy, amazed and slightly surprised.

“Did you make it?” Twilight inquired her eyes brimming with curiosity.

“Twilight.” Princess Celestia’s call was lost on Twilight’s ears.

“Or did you summon it?”

“Twilight!” Again her name was lost on her ears.

“If you made it did you condense the water into the cloud? Or did you make th-”

“Twilight Sparkle!” The Princess’s voice cut through Twilight’s enthusiastic barrage of questions and her stern face made Twilight shrink back a bit.

“Sorry Princess.” Twilight gave a small apologetic smile to Celestia and I.

“Please let him answer one question at a time and also please take it easy, he just woke up not long ago.”

“Right, so..” Twilight turned to me.

“I summoned it, though I think I could make things if I really tried but…” I stop when I see a cyan blue feather fall from the cloud. Upon picking it up I found it to be very soft. “What’s this?” I ask as I show it to Twilight.

“That’s one of Rainbow’s feathers.” Twilight said before it hit her, “You said you summoned the cloud, right?”

“Yes, I did, what about it?” I reply as I tilt my head to the side.

“Where did you summon it from?” Twilight said with worry in her eyes.

“The outskirts of the town.”

“I think you may have somehow summoned the cloud that Rainbow was on.”

“Oh, then she should be fine, assuming that she can fly, when I summon something it take only they item I need and nothing else, which means this ‘Rainbow’s’ feather was stuck in the cloud and not on her body.”

Twilight let out a sigh of relief, “that’s good, anyway I believe Celestia asked me to let you stay at the library till you find something you can do around here. So lets get going.” She turned to Princess Celestia and gave her a nuzzle, “Bye Princess.”

I gave a slight bow, “Good bye Princess, and again, thank you.”

“Good bye you two, have a good day.” Princess Celestia replied as we started waking out of the room.

As we were leaving we heard a doctor talking, “Well Miss Dash, other than a little bruise you are perfectly healthy.”

“Thanks Doc. Bye!” Rainbow exclaimed as she walked out. “Hey Twi. Who’s this?”

“This is Jamin, he was the one who fell out of the sky two months ago.”

“Sweet!” Rainbow’s face lit up like a Christmas Tree, until she sees one of her feathers in my hand. “How did you get one of my feathers?”

“Um.. I may have sort of summoned the cloud you were on to me.” I admit sheepishly.

“So, that was you who made that cloud vanish. Well, I suppose that means you have magic like Twilight huh?” Rainbow asked, slightly inquisitively.

“Kind of, I can summon things to me when I need them, but I don’t know what else I can do. Sorry about the cloud.”

“Ah, it’s okay, but I need to talk to you alone for a moment. Okay?”

“Sure… I’ll be back soon Twilight, okay?”

“Okay,” Twilight nodded in agreement. “And Rainbow, don’t hurt him he just woke up.”

“I wont Twi,” with that Rainbow takes me around a corner then pins me against the wall, her piercing gaze almost completely paralyzing me, “I will only say this once so listen closely, Twi is mine, and no one is going to take her from me.”

While Rainbow’s protectiveness was a bit off putting I nodded, “Don’t worry about me trying to steal her away, I don’t even swing that way.”

“Good, glad that’s clear, if you want to bang someone you can find your self another ma– wait did you say you didn’t even swing that way?!” The shock was as clear as day on Dash’s face.

“Yeah, and fyi, Princess Celestia wanted me to talk to Twi about this kind of thing if she ever felt the need to, so I will help her and if she doesn’t know then your secret is safe with me.”

“Okay, but I kind of just yelled at you I would be surprised if she didn’t hear me.” Dash replied, her mood dropping.

“Really, because there is a sound barrier around us? Or did you miss the flash of magic.”

“Oh,” she sees a small wall of clouds around us, it extended from the floor to the ceiling, “How does this help?”

“There are over ten thousand clouds condensed into a wall that blocks all sound and movement, now let us drop this subject, before I cause a panic at every weather team’s HQ after all, I took clouds from all over this land.”

“Okay…” Rainbow trailed off as the clouds disappeared, returning to where I got them.

“Anyway, bye Dash, it was nice meeting you too.”

“Bye,” was all Rainbow could say as I walked away.

“What was that about?” Twilight asked with worry evident on her face.

“Oh nothing, Rainbow just wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t be a threat to Ponyville or Equestria, she did however say that it was cool that I had wings.” I lied without hesitation or falter in my voice.

“Okay.” Twilight nodded, “Lets get going to the library.” She turned to where Rainbow was and waved her hoof, “See you later Dash.”

“Okay, uh… bye Twi.” Rainbow said, albeit slightly awkwardly.

When we arrived at the library, after leaving hospital, I asked if she had a place I could sleep that was near a source of heat since I was feeling tired and a bit cold. It was at that point that she noticed that I was till emitting magic energy and suggested that I stop as that would ware me out very quickly. Upon stopping the magic energy that I was emitting I felt a bit warmer but still tired.

“So, could I get a blanket, I am feeling kind of tired still.” I asked before letting out a small yawn.

“Sure,” she responded as she turned away, “I’ll be right back with it.”

As she left I summoned a cloud and sat down on it. Surprisingly I didn’t fall through it. I theorized that it was because I had wings and would have been classified as a Pegasus if I were actually a pony. Since Pegasi can’t fall through clouds it made sense that I wouldn’t either. When she returned she was surprised that I was laying on a cloud. When she asked how I was laying on a cloud I told her my theory.

Twilight thought that my theory made sense but before she could ask anything else I asked her which room I was in. The room was more bland than the rest of the library. She told me that it was the guest room and that I was only rarely used. I thanked her for letting me know about, and use, it.

After that she asked me about how I arrived here in Equestria. I told her my story, and we talked about some of the things that I had experienced in greater detail before I finally told her that I needed to get some rest. She respected my wishes and bid me a good night.

The next morning I awoke around five to find that it was still dark out. Feeling refreshed I stepped outside to admire the beautiful night sky. The moon shining like a beacon in the starry sky, and the countless stars that twinkled in many thousands of constellations. At that time I saw a shadowed figure walking along the streets towards the nearby forest.

As I watched this figure I looked at his emotions. I can’t really give you a specific definition of the emotions so I’ll tell you what they looked like to me. They were a slightly dark blue, mixed with a hit of red, and a touch of some kind of gray. All the emotions and aura were shaped around the body of a unicorn.

While I could not see this pony’s horn I knew it was a unicorn because of the shape of his aura. As he disappeared from my view I wondered why he was heading into the dark forest on the edge of the town. Those woods were the very woods that I had landed by when I first arrived here. Shuddering from the cold and the memories I went back inside, completely forgetting about the figure that I had seen.

Upon entering I decided to look for a good book to read. Being that this was not really my home, and that I was simply a guest, I made a small ball of light out of the energy that the moon was giving off so that I could find a book and read it, without lighting any candles.

Upon finding a book, which was numbered as number one in a series, I pickled it up. Nothing like starting a new series in a new place. As I started reading the book I found it to be an amazing adventure story. It was about a Pegasus who would end up in many perilous situations, and it was quite a good read. When I finished the book I looked at the cover, it was the first book in the Daring Do Series. I set it back on the shelf, dismissed the light I was using and stretched just as the sun was rising.
